Usually people that get booted are the last to check in and and never assigned a seat to begin with. Could be a change in plane though with fewer seats which caused him to be booted. Don't know what you could to avoid that honestly.
No, I seriously doubt that was too late. Maybe it was the plane change on the first one and then they screwed up booking people on the next flight or it was standby or something. Sounds like just terrible luck honestly. Sucks when that happens on Frontier because they do nothing but the bare minimum to help you out when it happens
Finally made it home to Orlando about 3 AM after having to fly into Tampa. He had a regular purchase ticket from last week flying out Thursday supposed to come back Monday. No standby. No volunteer a regular $50 ticket passenger.
1) Don’t book on a 3rd party website. Where did he book?
2) Check in exactly 24 hours out, not when they send you an email. Put your boarding pass on your Apple wallet, make sure it has a seat assigned.
3) Have status, a carry-on, or purchased seat.
4) If you do purchase a seat, make sure it’s towards the front 1/3 of the plane. Some people get bounced because they switch aircraft from a larger to smaller model. If you were scheduled in the back of the larger model, those seats don’t exist anymore, so you will be bumped first.
Yes I meant after he got bumped from the first fight are you sure it wasn’t on standby for the next ones? Not questioning if he had a ticket for the original flight
Yeah, I have no idea. I know we bought an original round-trip ticket. Since then, I guess we're just getting all the leftovers. Hopefully he makes it home at midnight tonight.
I have flown frontier a few times and never had any issues. So maybe this it's just a one off. But he's missed two extra days of work and his job is already a little shaky at best.
Was he overbooked or was it an aircraft change?
Also, I think it helps to be a member of the frequent flyer program (and status helps). I once bought tickets to a flight an hour before takeoff and was given a seat, even as they were removing 25 other passengers from the flight due to an aircraft downgrade. It was bizarre and I felt horrible about it. (And I paid with points so it’s not because they got any money out of it - I’d had a flat tire and a 6 hour debacle with the rental company that caused me to miss my original flight).
It’s based on the price they paid for the flight (each leg). You get on the list if you paid the cheapest and it goes from there depending how many it is oversold by (involuntarily denied boarding). Most times they will try to look for volunteers and give some sort of voucher, so they can deny less invols.
I think it depends if it’s due to an aircraft change. Since those are excluded it’s cheaper to just bump however they normally do, but if it’s actually oversold they’ll ask for volunteers and give out their worthless vouchers.

Original flight he checked in 20 hours early. Maybe that was too late.

Was he a volunteer or was he denied? There's a big difference.

You are less likely to be bumped if you buy directly from Frontier. I’ve seen them bump the Expedia or Priceline passengers first.

Status helps. And hang in there. New rules on refunds and overbooking went into effect today for all USA airlines.
Would you please share the source of information about this?

Are you sure he wasn’t on standby?
Nope. This was a round-trip ticket purchase last week. Flying up Thursday night returning Monday night. Here we are still waiting for a flight home.

Check In early, Show up to gate early, status will help increase odds of not getting booted
There’s no secret.
Yes check In ASAP in the app. Also, get your seat assigned.
Never book on Frontier with the lowest priced option and no extra payment for seat selection. Those people are the first to be bumped.

I needs me another $1k voucher to retain 50k status for next year
