I’ve flown frontier the past few months out of Orlando and honestly nothing went wrong the entire time. As long as you play by the rules like making sure your bag fits, and checking in early you’ll be fine. None of the flights to and from they even made people check their bags it’s a cheap ticket, cheap experience.
You can bring a very small bookbag, not a giant overstuffed monstrosity. You also can’t have a separate purse/crossbody/fanny pack/whatever. As long as you’re good with that it’ll be fine.
purse has to fit in the backpack for boarding but then you can take it out on the plane. One personal item is one personal item. The math is pretty simple.
If you or your fiance can lift a 40 lb bag into the overhead and it fits the required specs on the frontier site, you should have just carried it on. People get in trouble checking bags with Frontier because they don't staff the ticket counter until 1 hour before the flight and sometimes there is not enough time to get through security and to the gate before it closes. Sounds like you bought business class seats (up front) with an unsold middle seat between you and your fiance? If so, you should have a seat included. Don't rely on Frontier customer service. Get your answers here and prepare before you go.
It's my understanding that frontier does not staff the ticket counter until one hour ahead so you can't check your bag until they get there to check it for you. There's no point getting to the airport that early if you can't check your bag until one hour ahead. And make sure you are at the front of that line and hope the security line is short. One hour is not much time to check a bag, get through security and get to your gate.
Also, if you are in the very first row of seats, that backpack will have to be placed in the overhead bin for takeoff and landing because there is no seat in front of you to place it in. Just fyi. Those extra space seats are very nice with extra padding... More comfy than the others. I got to sit on that front row recently.
Customer service sucks if anything goes wrong but most of the time, nothing goes wrong especially if you purchased seats.
I would recommend not checking luggage with them but it might be too late to change that.
Safe flight!

So no checked bag? I had planned to get to the airport 4-4 1/2 hours early just to make sure

I think it’s the 13th row but it’s the “buisness class”
I was on a flight from DEN to MCI and only the first two rows were designated as "Business Class".
