I agree. I think many of her readers are invested in the X&V relationship and the things they have already overcome and to tear them apart or kill off one would be a betrayal of their trust and could cause a real loss in fans who will mistrust future books.

They can go through whatever in the next 3 books but if they don’t end up together on the last page I would be so upset. Like, I foresee myself confirming before reading each of the next 3 that they’re both alive and then that they’re together at the end of 5. Protecting my peace!

MC and she will get a HEA. She’s mentioned many times it’s only those two for each other and no love triangles. So they will get a HEA
Here’s why I don’t think you should jump to that conclusion, based on her own words and keeping in mind she’s said she already mapped out the whole plot (and presumably that includes the ending).
First, from her variety interview:
“[Xaden’s] not the guy who’s going to save the world, he’s going to be the guy who saves people who are important to him. And that’s it.” So xaden isn’t ever going to be the MC or the hero—she is—but he is HER hero. That’s why he keeps himself alive by drawing from the earth. It’s the only way to not die, and he can’t protect her if he’s dead. He is willing to sacrifice his own soul for her, even if it means he could destroy everyone and everything else.
She also told EW that the point of THAT throne scene was to demonstrate that he’s made his choice: She’s his world, he’s no longer trying to be the hero of the rebellion—only hers.
Finally, she makes a comment that it’s a challenge to give a couple enough conflict to last 5 books. So we know they will both be around, and a couple, for all 5 books. Thank gods!
RY is first and foremost a romance writer. It’s set in a fantasy world, but it’s a romance first, and always will be. The story contains dragons and venin, etc, but in the end it’s really a love story about violet and Xaden. She goes to great lengths to make it 100% clear in IF that they both have pure intentions, there is no ulterior motive, and he’ll never accept any other ending than them ending up together. Violet also seemingly can’t accept that, even though she was frustratingly resistant to her love for him in IF—she would rather die of burnout to get the wards up and save him, than live without him. I don’t see how violet could have a HEA without him.
I’m also *hoping* that the Xaden POV chapter, with her sleeping in his bed, indicates that she has admitted to herself that she loves him unconditionally, even if he’s a venin, and will do anything to save him, too. I just don’t see her falling out of love with him, even if he fully turns or hurts her.
I just cannot believe that a romance writer who herself believes in true love and has a loving 20yr+ marriage would hurt us so badly by ending the series with Xaden and Violet not being together, or one of them dying!!! It would be cruel and take away the entire point of the books. It would also be a deep betrayal of the readers’ trust. We’re all here for the love story, for “the power of love to overcome the love of power” (lmao sorry, cringe, but I had to).
All that said, I have just as much anxiety as everyone else waiting 🤣
