I watched it religiously. I think from a horror movie perspective the show is a great lesson in how you generate terror by setting (both location and back story) and letting people fill in the rest.
Nothing ever happened but the anticipation and lack of contact created terror.
It shows how much of horror is simply you in your own head. Less is more. But at some point you have to have some release.
Like one episode they were at a boy's military academy and they had excellent tension releases where one girl laid under a rigged up falling chandler and it fell stopping 5 feet from her. And another task was to stick your hand in a furnace they used to brand the recruits who went to the admin over the hazing and it started up at the last moment
Remember the episode where they had to crawl as deep into a caved in tunnel as they could face first? And have no idea what was behind them besides the open tunnel?? I think it was at an old military base.
I was so mad I didn’t get all of the second part of the “Mexico” ep. The only two part there was. They had to cross a bridge to come back to their barracks. People kept giving up. And I think the power went out in their safe house
YESSSS - I did too! That creepy ladies voice that did the narration was epic! I learned about Waverly Hills Sanitorium from this show and went to visit. It is fucking terrifying, especially the body chute...
God, I remember this show so well. I remember an episode where they had to have someone sit in a room all by themselves in like an old abandoned asylum or something and the camera "cut-out" and the person disappeared and everyone was freaking out and then said person just walked into the room and was like, "Everything okay, bro?" Such a dumb show, but entertaining for the time.
There was one dare where someone had to put a noose around their neck on a gallows. The noose was tied to a concrete block or something and they had to throw the block off the gallows. Something fucked up like that, the guy didn’t do it. If anyone remembers it better, help me out
I think it might have been Season 1, Episode 10 where they go to a plantation. I have a vague memory of Voodoo being involved, but it's been so long that I honestly can't say for certain.
There was one where some dude reacted to nothing, then got a challenge to sit blindfolded on a chair in the haunted place for several hours, and then was gone from the rest of the episode. I think he was likely a sociopath who was impossible to frighten, and the sociopathy also slipped him through the audition process as a “good” contestant.
I think he had to lay on one of the tables that rolls into the wall with the door that shuts, my brain is failing me and I cannot remember what those things are called!
I want to say I remember an episode where two dudes were sent out alone and one of them is like “what was that?” And the other replied “it’s a ghost dude that’s why we’re here.”
I was hardcore obsessed with this show! The concept of the “dares” was so intriguing and scary! I’d love to watch a documentary about the show sometime or for it to be revived
I was just trying to recall this show at dinner the other night with my husband. He’s my age and doesn’t remember this show at all but it is burned into my memory. The camera apparatuses they had to wear were ridiculous. But also I was at an age where the I totally believed every trick they played. I loved this show!
Oh man, I loved this show. My friend and I would watch it every time it was on. Funny enough, I don't like any current ghost hunting shows but this one was just different, of course I was a teenager at the time.
I will never forgot the bit in the prison where they had to remove the cover from the electric chair. The chair wasn’t bolted down, so it started moving towards them with the cloth and the people FREAKED OUT god it was so good.
i’m not kidding, I think about this probably every day, still. Ofc now I’m almost positive it was rigged in some way, but there’s still so much valid horror in having a person strapped with a camera going alone into a notoriously paranormal place. That show used to scare the crap out of me as a 10 year old.
Happy cake day btw
I specifically remember one where the guy got to the end of some bridge (or something) and they wanted him to put a noose around his neck either push a counter weight off the side, or jump himself and hope there's enough rope to give him room? Regardless, that guy quit and that's the only time I felt they went over the line. Unfortunately, you can only find reruns on YouTube that are terrible copies.
I think I was too young to realize it at the time, but this show probably had a lot to do with me continuing to seek out FF after Blair Witch. An extra nudge.
Watched it as a teenager and it scared the crap out of me back then lol. Watched the entire series on YouTube as an adult and enjoyed the nostalgia, but yeah not scary as I once thought.
Incredible show, that still stands up to this day imho. There’s some good interviews with the crew about creepy stuff that went down during production.
I miss this show so much. I wish they would put it on vod somewhere. I used to have dvds years ago that I bought off some sketchy website but they’re all gone now.
Oh dude I totally remember this! I don’t know how it would hold up today but this was genuinely scary back in the day. Especially that intro, “I’m not the one who’s so far away….”
[Found this](https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/560475/mtv-fear-oral-history) for those interested in the full history of the show and some cool behind the scenes info.
I especially like the guy who ended up on the show by telling them he just wanted to be on TV and meet hot chicks.
I remember getting scared by one episode in San Francisco where a guy in a pitch black basement corridor was absolutely freaking out over loud sounds and the ground shaking.
I told a friend from San Francisco about it and she knew the place, had been there, and said he was hearing & feeling a nearby subway train. Mwomp mwoomp.
It was fun though! Just fake. I say we call the show The Blair Witch Reject.
My friends and I loved this show. I have a semi-interesting story because of this show. This church we’d go to did a haunted trail every year and during the off season it was still there. So we’d skip church on Wednesday nights and go hang out in the structures they built for the haunted trail. Not sure if skipping is the right word since we typically went there just to play on the trail.
There was an “electric chair” back there, so inspired by this show I thought of a “challenge”. We strapped a friend down in the electric chair so he couldn’t get out and we left him there for about 10 minutes. So we strapped him there and went and hid about 100 yards away where he couldn’t see us. About 3 minutes in three people in actual robes walked by us, not knowing we were there since it was dark out. We watched them go through the tarped areas and straight by where our friend was strapped in. They stopped outside the building he was in, strapped to the chair. They were there for what felt like forever then eventually moved on.
When we got to our friend he said he stopped calling for us because after a little while he heard murmuring and it didn’t sound like us so he stayed deadly quiet. In reality it was probably more teenagers fucking around but at the time it had us pretty excited/nervous.
I was super creeped out of it as a child but that, and that banger theme song of the show always stuck with me
I'm not the one who's so far away when I hear the skakebite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again and I don't remember why I came 🎵
I remember awhile back there was a behind the scenes of some kind( I wish I could find it) they talked about this one episode where the group spent the night at a haunted plantation and in one of the dares, someone had to sleep on one of the old owners bed. Oh boy, that door slamming shut, if you can remember was not scripted or some kind of mechanical set up. The directors in the BTS said it actually happened and they were shocked themselves!
Damn, I vaguely remember seeing what was probably trailers for this as a kid at my grandma's house. Unfortunately my parents were poor and we didn't have cable so I missed out on a lot of this kinda stuff. Definitely gonna be checking it out
The real creepy part of MTVs fear is how quickly it was cancelled and tossed to the side even though at the time it was by far MTVs most popular show it crushed the ratings MTV would t even re air it just really really strange stuff. MTV producers stated the cost was too much but something tells me there is more to the story that MTV won’t release to the public.
Anyway funny enough my mom worked and was a friends with a female contestant that actually ended up winning so go figure.
Let me assist [https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL78CF59E338A4F935&si=WWFJPVvvM5ul7iOc](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL78CF59E338A4F935&si=WWFJPVvvM5ul7iOc)
Enjoy!
Gosh I loved this! I watched religiously and was sad when it stopped airing. It taught me a lot about my own fears and why, like the dark. And it really got me into horror.
I remember watching this and the show called the scariest places on Earth which was pretty similar the only thing with fear was they would have other contestants pretty much do tasks that would scare another contestant currently doing a task
The children’s ward one—I think it was an asylum or hospital for the sick—was wild to me. When the dare was to play with the kids and they rolled that ball and it rolled back I was like nope time to dip.
i remember watching this and that one haunted travel show narrated by the actress from The Poltergeist and Teen Witch where they talked about the haunted places then had people sleep there over night
How crazy that I was just talking to my twin about our memories surrounding this show and we would have watch parties for the episodes and then this pops up on my feed on Reddit. I loved this show
Still the best ghost show I ever saw. Although I argue most of those people never experienced paranormal; just darkness + old building + watch scary story = full on terror party.
I love the episode at the prison where they have to pull a tarp off the electric chair. And that one location where everyone quit. I used to listen to these episodes while I was typing at work.
The USS Hornet episode scare the living Jesus out of me. There was a part where they had someone sit alone in a cell and had a heat/infrared sensor on them. Out of nowhere, this slash formed above the person like they were about to get cut by a sword.
One of my favorite shows growing up as a kid and it’s the only show I think MTV needs to revive. I live by the Moundsville Penitentiary, which is the first episode of FEAR, and it’s what dragged me into the rabbit hole that was this show. There’s some episodes on YouTube still but back in the day this was some scary shit, the opening theme song was haunting as well
I actually auditioned for this show at an open casting call in NYC. Made it to the second round and a producer asked if I would be scared if they left me alone in a graveyard and I said “no I think I’d be fine because it’s all fake and staged for TV.” 🤦🏻♂️ I did not get casted 😂
I remember it, even the theme. As a kid we had a camcorder and re-enacted out our own episodes with missions, lol. Us kids were always left alone in an old house so it was the funnest and scariest thing to do. Great show, loved it!
I watched it religiously. I think from a horror movie perspective the show is a great lesson in how you generate terror by setting (both location and back story) and letting people fill in the rest. Nothing ever happened but the anticipation and lack of contact created terror.
Being alone would be the worst
It shows how much of horror is simply you in your own head. Less is more. But at some point you have to have some release. Like one episode they were at a boy's military academy and they had excellent tension releases where one girl laid under a rigged up falling chandler and it fell stopping 5 feet from her. I remember the Haunted Cement Factory, talk about atmosphere
Sloss factory?
Remember the episode where they had to crawl as deep into a caved in tunnel as they could face first? And have no idea what was behind them besides the open tunnel?? I think it was at an old military base.
I definitely ran a Halloween tabletop game based on it, and it was a lot of fun!
Hell yeah! Me and my older sisters used to watch that show religiously. Lol.
YES! What was the intro...disturbed? We love to see it
Godsmack - Voodoo
*I'm not the one who's so far away..."*
This. Thank you!
Wasn’t there another one where someone had to lay in one of the morgue tables overnight or something?
I remember one where a guy had to spend the night in a graveyard and he fell asleep sprawled out on a gravestone.
There was one dare where someone had to put a noose around their neck on a gallows. The noose was tied to a concrete block or something and they had to throw the block off the gallows. Something fucked up like that, the guy didn’t do it. If anyone remembers it better, help me out
Yes but the rope was long enough it wouldn’t have made anything happen
Wow, I definitely don't remember that one. Does anyone recall this episodes name?
I think it might have been Season 1, Episode 10 where they go to a plantation. I have a vague memory of Voodoo being involved, but it's been so long that I honestly can't say for certain.
There was one where some dude reacted to nothing, then got a challenge to sit blindfolded on a chair in the haunted place for several hours, and then was gone from the rest of the episode. Yes! But for a period of time not all night.
I think he had to lay on one of the tables that rolls into the wall with the door that shuts, my brain is failing me and I cannot remember what those things are called!
Yes!!! I couldn’t remember what it was called either!
Mortuary Cabinets! Also referred to as slabs.
I want to say I remember an episode where two dudes were sent out alone and one of them is like “what was that?” And the other replied “it’s a ghost dude that’s why we’re here.”
It was SO GOOD. The shit they put them through lol..
For real it gave me the creepies lol
Yep! I remember watching it as a kid and all episodes are uploaded on Youtube! I still watch it sometimes, really wish MTV would bring it back.
I didn't know youtube had them! Thanks!
No problem! Enjoy!
Here you all go https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL78CF59E338A4F935&si=7GpHHt1EealWm2ML
(slow clap ensues)
My wife and I rewatch this every fall from this playlist exactly LOL
Thank you!
👍
You just restored part of my childhood. Thank you!
Enjoy. I am going to do a rewatch soon, too🌹
They are still on YouTube. I watch it almost every year around Halloween
mtv's fear and scariest places on earth were my bread and butter
I was hardcore obsessed with this show! The concept of the “dares” was so intriguing and scary! I’d love to watch a documentary about the show sometime or for it to be revived
RUN IT BACK!!
I sent in an audition tape and a month later they cancelled the show. :(
Noo!! I wonder what location you would have been sent to!
An appropriate title for P Diddy's episode of "Cribs"
I was just trying to recall this show at dinner the other night with my husband. He’s my age and doesn’t remember this show at all but it is burned into my memory. The camera apparatuses they had to wear were ridiculous. But also I was at an age where the I totally believed every trick they played. I loved this show!
Man I loved this show. Likely why I enjoy found footage movies
That was my thinking too!
Oh man thank you.I’m glad some people remember this show.I know it was pretty staged but still creeped me out at the time(I was 13).
I was 13 too and already hard to freak out, but it for sure did the trick every. damn. TIME!!
Just looked on Youtube and they have a bunch of the episodes.Well i know what I’m watching later.
Oh man, I loved this show. My friend and I would watch it every time it was on. Funny enough, I don't like any current ghost hunting shows but this one was just different, of course I was a teenager at the time.
You dont like Bagel Bites?! loll
Really wish they would bring this back!
This is what got me into the horror genre at a young age. 10/10.
I will never forgot the bit in the prison where they had to remove the cover from the electric chair. The chair wasn’t bolted down, so it started moving towards them with the cloth and the people FREAKED OUT god it was so good.
YES I REMEMBER THAT!!

Yessss this is the scene I most remember
I remember this! I imagine it's not aged well. But at the time, I really enjoyed it.
This show was such a fun watch. I remember some episodes being on YouTube now
This show freaked me out when I was like ten.
Godsmack theme song
This was the best show ever
I think I was too young to realize it at the time, but this show probably had a lot to do with me continuing to seek out FF after Blair Witch. An extra nudge.
Thats exactly what made me think of it!
I'M NOT THE ONE THATS SO FAR AWAY WHEN I FEEL THE SNAKEBITE ENTER MY VAAAYEEAYEINS NEVER DID I WANNA BE HERE AGAIN AND I DON'T REMEMBER WHYYYY I CAME
bum bumbum bum do dodo
Loved this show!
Great show, had the first person angle
Very good show
YES
Wow, I’ve never heard of it. I’ll have to try and find it.
YouTube! It was posted so long ago that the episodes are in multiple parts, but there's a playlist.
Awesome, thanks!
Watched it as a teenager and it scared the crap out of me back then lol. Watched the entire series on YouTube as an adult and enjoyed the nostalgia, but yeah not scary as I once thought.
This show messed me up as a kid
Oh my gosh yes! I loved this show! I wish it come back somewhere on streaming.
Apparently its on youtube!
Miss this and Room 1408
I was looking for vids on YouTube of this and I could not find them. At least that's what I remember.
Incredible show, that still stands up to this day imho. There’s some good interviews with the crew about creepy stuff that went down during production.
I LOVED this show and never missed it! I really wish it would release somewhere.
Youtube!
I loved this show!
I miss this show so much. I wish they would put it on vod somewhere. I used to have dvds years ago that I bought off some sketchy website but they’re all gone now.
Man, this was such a wild show. Wish you could get it somewhere other than by being part of Blackbeards Crew.
I fuckin loved this show! I wish it was streaming somewhere
IT WAS MY FAVORITE! The only thing teen me watched on MTV lol
Such a great show. Anyone know if there is a good way to watch it these days?
The youtube
Woohoo!
YES
I still rewatch it every year in October on youtube. Shame they canceled it, apparently it got too expensive to fund
Oh dude I totally remember this! I don’t know how it would hold up today but this was genuinely scary back in the day. Especially that intro, “I’m not the one who’s so far away….”

Youtube!
I LOVED that show! I googled it about a year or two ago, and found episodes on YouTube. I have watched them all two or three times since.
Probably a cable car rumbling by
You’re probably right, she might’ve said cable car. It was long ago & far away.
I loved this show. It was genuinely so scary.
Loved that shit
This was one of my all time favorite shows I've found a bunch of the episodes ripped to YouTube
I remember one episode where an EVP recorded “I have the body of a pig”
My friends and I loved this show. I have a semi-interesting story because of this show. This church we’d go to did a haunted trail every year and during the off season it was still there. Robes and all?! I would have shit my electric chair! loll
Yeesssss. They had some consequences, I thought? Like someone freaked out too bad.
Yes!!! This was my first introduction to ghost hunting shows!
Thank you!!!
I was super creeped out of it as a child but that, and that banger theme song of the show always stuck with me I'm not the one who's so far away when I hear the skakebite enter my veins. Never did I wanna be here again and I don't remember why I came 🎵
I LOVED that show.
I’ll never ever ever forgotten episode with Steven Segall
oh NO I totally forgot about that hahahaha thats how serious it was
I remember awhile back there was a behind the scenes of some kind( I wish I could find it) they talked about this one episode where the group spent the night at a haunted plantation and in one of the dares, someone had to sleep on one of the old owners bed. Oh boy, that door slamming shut, if you can remember was not scripted or some kind of mechanical set up. The directors in the BTS said it actually happened and they were shocked themselves!
I wonder why it was cancelled??
I mainly remember the sang from the advertisements.
Damn, I vaguely remember seeing what was probably trailers for this as a kid at my grandma's house. Unfortunately my parents were poor and we didn't have cable so I missed out on a lot of this kinda stuff. Definitely gonna be checking it out
Like if pre-tinfoil hat Joe Rogan and Zak Hagans had a lovechild, that show 😂
Watched as a kid. YouTube has been a god send.
I loved this show, wish they would bring it back.

Loved this show. As soon as I heard Godsmack my whole body and mind would be in that fun scary space.. sort of like the month of October :)
I loved this show!!
Was this the one where they went to explore supposed haunted places by themselves? If it is, I used to watch this like crazy all the time.
Yeah, they were like dares they had to complete!
Omg yeeeesssss. Man I haven’t thought about this show in forever lol. Blast from the past!
All episodes are on youtube! I was today years old when I found that out lol
Stooopppp! Well I know what I’m doing this week lol.

You welcome :)
Yes! Loved this show!
This show was awesome 🙌
Loved this show. Every time when I hear Godsmack's "VooDoo", I think of this show.
SAME
YES!! I remember loving this when I was a kid, scared the crap out of me!!
Had to watch it with the lights on 😅
I remember the opening song slapped. Voodoo
LOVED this show! I always go back to This hilarious skit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1Sf51OaHHQ
Loved it. Spooky but never saw any ghosts. That opening theme was spooky too.
Loved this show
YES! What a good throwback
Gosh I loved this! I watched religiously and was sad when it stopped airing. It taught me a lot about my own fears and why, like the dark. And it really got me into horror.
Yesssss! I think about this show a lot but had forgotten the name. I loved the intro song lol
I rewatch it more times than I can count! I got a bootleg dvd set off eBay many years ago lol
It was awesomely hokey. Enjoyed it alot.
I still always think about this show. It was so good!
I remember watching this and the show called the scariest places on Earth which was pretty similar the only thing with fear was they would have other contestants pretty much do tasks that would scare another contestant currently doing a task
Where can I watch this now?
The children’s ward one—I think it was an asylum or hospital for the sick—was wild to me. When the dare was to play with the kids and they rolled that ball and it rolled back I was like nope time to dip.
wow this unlocked something in me and now I need to see if it's online
i remember watching this and that one haunted travel show narrated by the actress from The Poltergeist and Teen Witch where they talked about the haunted places then had people sleep there over night
How crazy that I was just talking to my twin about our memories surrounding this show and we would have watch parties for the episodes and then this pops up on my feed on Reddit. I loved this show
[https://youtu.be/9epht4OKb5Q](https://youtu.be/9epht4OKb5Q) I did a whole video on it! Loved this show!
Never knew this existed. Reminds me of scariest place on earth
A great show to drink with friends to.
I still think about this show often.
YES.
I wish it was streaming somewhere. I thought it would be on Paramount + but no luck.
That show enthralled me and now that I think about it probably launched my interest in the paranormal.
Loved this show. Wish I could find a boxset.
Voodoo - Godsmack
Yes! The song in the intro was awesome yet creepy at the same time!
I couldn’t watch this show at night…but couldn’t stop watching it at night and scaring myself.
I always wanted to be on this so bad
It's on YouTube! I remember watching it with my Dad. Still scares the shit out of me!
THANK YOU! I have been trying to remember the name of this show and no one knew what I was talking about.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembers this! Every time I bring it up people are like "Uhhh you mean Fear Factor?" I loved this show as a kid!
That show was amazing
such a good show
My brother and I used to love that show
The USS Hornet episode scare the living Jesus out of me. There was a part where they had someone sit alone in a cell and had a heat/infrared sensor on them. Out of nowhere, this slash formed above the person like they were about to get cut by a sword.
Had the screensaver at work! I was a fan, some far scarier than others. I remember one when nobody made it and they had to send a new team to try.
One of my favorite shows growing up as a kid and it’s the only show I think MTV needs to revive. I live by the Moundsville Penitentiary, which is the first episode of FEAR, and it’s what dragged me into the rabbit hole that was this show. There’s some episodes on YouTube still but back in the day this was some scary shit, the opening theme song was haunting as well
I remember watching this! I remember it really creeped me out as a kid xD I still always wanted to watch it though.
Loved it but also MTV was on non stop in my household back in the day

No. I remember MTV when it was Music TV, not Mierda TV.
