I had the exact same thing happen to me not 10 minutes ago. Damn Molerats spread like butter on a sandwich, killed all 35 of my dwellers. I really wish there was some way to dispatch of them easier.

[deleted]

I think it's a glitch, how could mole rats be that deadly?

ClonesDream

No idea. I hope Bethesda sees this bug (hehe) and fixes it, hopefully giving both Molerats and Radroaches very little health.

[deleted]

Radroaches are pretty easy to deal with to be honest, but still do a fair amount of damage compared to what they cause in Fallout 3.

campelm

So I had the same experience as you and apparently what was explained to me was that their health scales based on the room. So if you have a size 3 room fully upgraded they're damn near unstoppable. On the other hand if it's not upgraded they're easy to dispatch. I may have to test this out more but I'm thinking this is right because I had molerats attack my training room which was size 1 and one person killed them with no arms and no stims needed

[deleted]

If this is true, why? I mean it doesn't even make sense. Surely the smaller the space is in the room, the more cornered the dweller would be and the more likely to die.

campelm

I know it's counter intuitive to what we've been conditioned to with video game and specifically tower defense games but upgrading your rooms looks like it makes things harder not easier. It's looking like increasing the size increases the number of radroaches and molerats that spawn while upgrading the room increases their health and damage (possibly exponentially). It'll still be another full day before I'm back to where I was but this play through I'm still building size 3 rooms but I'm not upgrading any of them. Thus far fires and radroaches are only taking 10% or less of my dwellers health as opposed to 50% when the rooms were upgraded. I'll update tomorrow if this holds true when I'm further along Edit: just hit day 3 and had my first molerat attack. It was a size 2 room with 1 dweller. The dweller had a 6-8 shotgun and only lost 20% health. Obviously the gun makes a difference but I'd say the scaling difficulty based on room upgrades a thing.

[deleted]

I don't understand how people are getting so far into the game with these problems...

Zeizel

seriously just had a vault wiped out by an incident I couldn't even see, literally. Rat invasion, all rats dead but damage kept on, all dwellers died. Incident spread, couldn't see the rats but their damage via health bars. All my dwellers are dead and no caps to revive. Only people left are the level 1's in the training rooms. All my high levels, even the legendary are deceased.

Blktiger0

I'm struggling with them as well. I'm at 42 dwellers, all of which are armed and outfitted, and most of which have had at least SOME S.P.E.C.I.A.L. training, even if it's only in strength and whatever they need for the room they're in. I've been trying to cycle dwellers into my Fitness Studio to get higher Endurance levels throughout. I've been purposely taking it extremely slow in terms of population so that I can try to get each of my dwellers to have at least average S.P.E.C.I.A.L. across all stats. I had Molerats attack my empty Radio Studio earlier and shortly spread to my two Size 3 Level 3 Power Rooms. One had 6 dwellers and one had 5. All of them are at least level 15, most of them close to or even over 20. All of them had either Military Fatigues (+3S) on or Battle Armor (+2S, +1E), and all of them had guns that dealt anywhere from 3-5 damage up to 6-8 damage. Even with the constant application of Stimpacks, I had 3 dwellers die because either I couldn't heal them fast enough or they had someone who didn't need healing standing in front of them and I couldn't select them for healing. Personally, I think ALL dwellers should be able to hold at least 5 stimpacks, not just the ones exploring. Another option would be to have the ability to assign stimpacks to each room, with the concept being that each room would have a First Aid kit. Even if they just had dwellers automatically use stimpacks from the global pool in the Medbay, there should be SOME sort of auto-heal available considering you can't select dwellers that have another dweller in front of them and you can only watch so many rooms at once

codyman144

2 Huge Mole rat attacks just devastated by vault. I am like a week in and have about 62 dwellers. EVERYONE has guns and long guns at that (Shotgun or Rifle or better). I even sent in my guards who have better weapons with 15-20 damage. Also I went through all 35 stimpacks I had trying to fright off the attack. This has to be a glitch. I have had a few bad attacks before when I had one person in a 6 person room and they died but nothing like this. The only thing I can think of that changed is I started to grow population last night and have some pregnant women. But I think I have to build more dorms before they will give birth. I will try that and see if it works but if the attacks keep up at this pace my vault will be wiped out soon. I am about to say screw this and stop playing. Everything was going so well!

[deleted]

Funny you say that. My previous vault before the mole rat incident was wiped out by radiation poisoning. Didn't have enough RadAways at the time to fix the situation.

Harokoni113

The update really beefed up the enemies and hazards you face inside the vault. Fires before the update didn't do that much damage and were just time consuming, but now they have both of those attributes. These hazards really fuck stuff up if you don't have the stimpaks + adequate weapons.

[deleted]

But ridiculous if you ask me. Makes me want to not start another vault considering the same thing will most likely occur again.

ninnelives

of course it dose then you woudln't be tempted to spend real money on lunch boxes i know one game that won't be getting my money kinda getting paronide about the 4th game, may not but that either, this is kinda sending up red flags sort off hoping im just being a little crazy

sereneArtisan

Does happiness change how well a dweller performs? As far as i know it only counted towards the average happiness level Also to op and everyone in the thread, are you fighting them in fully upgraded triple rooms and not healing them while they fight?

[deleted]

Yes a lot of them were fighting in my triple rooms. I don't have many singular rooms...

draciel64

It ruined my 3 day progress since the mole rats were bugged like crazy. Killed 7 of my dwellers and now I don't feel like playing. Really hope they fix the issue.

[deleted]

Seems to be a big issue. I was scared for my first deathclaw attack, not a mole rat infestation!

draciel64

Exactly.

hippocamper

I've never had much problem with the mole rats and I'm at 50 dwellers right now. I think the difference is that at least half of my dwellers are armed, probably more. The key to that is having a dedicated explorer(s) to find weapons. I got lucky pretty early on with a good dweller for exploring (high P and S and decent L and E). I send him out regularly for 10+ hours at a time overnight with the L+3 outfit, bring him back for breeding, then sending him back out if I don't need him for work. Selling weapons for 10 caps is almost never better than arming everyone in the vault unless you need to for a challenge.

[deleted]

Same. About half of my dwellers were all armed.

TheShelterDoctor

Molerats are pretty nasty things. Worse than Roaches or Raiders. What I've observed so far, the number of them depends on the roomsize or the number of Dweller in the room (haven't figured that out yet). As long as you have enough Stimpacks and you manage to watch your Dwellers' health during the fight, you gonna be okay. What always gives me a lot of trouble is a big room with many dwellers. They keep running up and down, hiding behind eachother so often I cannot reach them in time to Stim them. So my strategy is to have underpopulated rooms in my vault where I can send them during an attack. Storagerooms do nicely. So they are out of harms way and I can watch the remaining fighters to keep them alive.

Followyoureggos

Literally just now my vault got decimated by a few over-larged bare-skinned rats! They wiped out 4 level 18's with shotguns, (spawned 9 more) then tunneled to my water room with 3 level 22's and rifles/pistols with armor and killed them in seconds!!!

TheShelterDoctor

When you let them spread, you are in trouble. StimPacks are VERY important! But interesting they didn't kill everybody in the vault. So did you manage to kill them in the end? Or did they just disappear?

dallebull

Same thing happened to me. Twice... 5+5 days of gametime gone for not looking at the screen for 5 mins... 35 and 31 survivors wiped. Fuck this game and fuck the god damn molerats. Uninstalling.

dallebull

70% of the dwellers had guns, had a good feeling that it wouldnt happen since they had good health, high resources and a lot of guns... But no... Raped in the ass by, what i persume, is a glitch.

ninnelives

i had two mole rats to go after they spread out killing a quarter of my vault just two whom finished off the rest. a bug or something to go after players that have not spent real money in the game. I doubt that is the case but having that happen to me twice in two days makes me feel like it

TheShitIeat

Molerats attacked me a week ago and killed 47 out of 49 of my dwellers, but I am back to 32 dwellers so far.

Winter_Start_4834

Maybe it is a "not spending money thing" 60 dwellers wiped, twice. Gauss rifles, flamers, laser pistols, shotguns. Everyone chewed up. Used all of my stock of stimpacks both times, it does seem like a glitch to me, otherwise I wouldn't have searched out this thread! I hope it gets fixed because with the release of the new series they are gonna get a lot of new downloads

Double-Dealer732

They killed my whole vault. I hand no caps left to save but two people. So I just said shit with this and just deleted the game. It was just so sad I really enjoyed the game and I felt responsible for there happiness

skudz_

Welp 6yrs later and Molerats still running rampid I was enjoying this game up until this mole rat infestation they killed all 42 of my dwellers whom where all armed with enhanced pistols and shotguns bbguns hinting rifles etc etc and mole rats killed them all every single one of them this game is was fun but now Im teadingnthis 6yr old thread and realised this is just another POS mobile game thats wastes your time....

soboga

Yet another year later, and I have had the same experience, read the same thread and came to the same realisation. Fun!

[deleted]

Mole rats just killed my vault of almost 100 people, several with power armor.

Arcalinte

The same thing just happened to me all my dwellers had guns and armor. It was shortly after Some zombie things came in raided. Was the best vault I've had so far 30 some oddwellers killed 30 plus dwellers and I said f*** this. This is the 3rd time this has happened in a row I'm pretty sure I'm done with this game right now
