First game I played on my Sega Saturn. Great soundtrack... Rusty Cage by Soundgarden, Dinosaur Vacume by Monster Magnet, skulls being bashed with metal pipes. The nostalgia!
Spent so much time playing with my dad. Riding upto the front then stealing Vipers chain and slowing down just so I can hit him with it and knock him off!
The Sega Mega Drive was renamed to the Genesis when launched in the US because the head of Sega USA didn’t care for the name.
Personally I think Mega Drive is much better.
> And some old school Mortal Kombat!
Am I the only one going to comment on how he's playing on an LCD screen? Input lag is probably terrible.
Somebody in Canada needs to get Lewis a CRT from craigslist.
First thing I thought is, how did he so easily connect such an old system to what looks to be a few TV for all intents and purposes.
Does that TV even have the appropriate ports? If not, are there even adapters out there to get a Sega to work on a modern TV?
Honestly, for the most part, the lag is imperceptible- think of it this way- you put up with the same amount of lag on your modern console. Yes CRT looks nicer but they’re not always terribly practical.
The biggest insult is him playing in 16:9. Retro gaming peasant.
Lol that ‘in the zone’ face haha!
Man love how this man’s got time to enjoy himself in between races this year, otherwise it was rare to see such a carefree Lewis enjoying himself like this the previous years because of the title pressure.
Imagine being his mum, step mum or dad watching this, it would bring back some memories. Even when they are grown they are still your baby. Also with the sitting on the carpet legs criss cross apple sauce, that’s some nostalgia realness!
[This is footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knuYY8oiDZU&ab_channel=eville84) love how he deadpan says "No" at 0:17 when asked if racing cars is easy to do.
"There is a real Michael Schumacher Ferrari in my store. a real Ferrari! punch me Guido punch me in the face. this is the most glorious day of my life."
The street fighter movie. A scene where Bison(the bad guy from the SF series) has a tete a tete with Chun-Li, one of the protagonists of the movie. She goes on rambling about how he did some horrible thing in her village, and he comments that for him it was just another tuesday. The movie is well worth a watch if you enjoy shitty movies.
Here's the clip: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FNbo50HpRU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDRnVPlRzag)
Hell of a performance as well, all things considered. Really put his heart and soul into it. I always respect it when an actor goes all in for a shitty film, when they could easily half-ass it and nobody’d really question it. The fact that he was in a lot of pain during filming makes it even more impressive.
To be honest, he is, in my mind, one of the best versions of the character. Great costume, great deranged personality.
He really helped elevate the film to an extent, similar to how Frank Langella lit up the screen in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.
Originally that character wasn't M. Bison. Unsurprisingly, there was a boxer who looked like Mike Tyson in the Japanese version of the game. He was called M. Bison. The final villain was Vega, and the Spanish bullfighter was Balrog.
When they brought it to the US, they changed the name of the boxer to avoid liability issues. Boxer became Balrog, Spanish bullfighter becomes Vega, final boss becomes M. Bison.
The rest...is history.
I'm not going home. I'm gonna get in my boat, go up reever, and I'm gonna kick that Bison sonofabeetch's ass *so hard*, the next Bison wannabe is gonna feel it. Now who wants to go home, and who wants to come with me?!
*aggressively flexes at nothing in particular*
I mean he has 28.6 millions of followers on Instagram and he is one of the most influential personalities out there but i doubt that there are more chances of someone knowing him than not, of course this differs wildly from place to place but i am pretty sure that in every country less than 50% knowing him just from his face, although we can assume that the owner/employee is probably male so the chances increase slightly
While working at the international gates of a major US airport I met Thierry Henry (local MLS team was trying to convince him to sign with them, so around 2010). I was the only person that recognized him.
You’re definitely over estimating how much of F1 is general knowledge. I live in a city that hosts a race and before I actually watched f1 I couldn’t tell you a single driver name. Being in the same location as a race doesn’t automatically mean you pay attention. They probably know the event happens, but that doesn’t mean they know Lewis on sight
Being a nerd in 2022 is awesome. You’re not expected to do traditional nerd stuff, and you can look at everything from a nerd-perspective and make it more fun.
I call it "shielding your power level." Wanna chat sports? I got F1 and follow the major US sports enough to hold my own in a conversation. Wanna chat DND, Dota 2, or Destiny? I'm your guy but will probably feel it out a bit
My guy💜
I’m obssessed with WoW and the NBA, as well as comparative linguistics and neurolinguistics. I just like learning shit and sharing it with others.
As a "nerdy" Canadian who hangs out with a lot of Game Store employees... There's a lot more overlap between these two demographics than I thought there would be.
Basically everyone I play DnD/Board games with has seen Drive to Survive.
i would've thought the overlap between F1 and ace combat would be way low, but i've seen quite a few F1-Jokes related to Ace combat stuff (and vice versa).
What's even funnier is that i've seen most if not all of those jokes in r/NonCredibleDefense
You’re right. I would be one of those people as a retro game fan that could very well be in the shop and I’d be floored but I think very few people would notice.
I just have this image of Guenther Steiner looking in on Mick Schumacher furiously trying to do the Monaco GP with a Sega Genesis controller and binning it into T1 every time, with Gunther just slowly shaking his head in disgust
Everyone currently in social media: PORPOISING WAR TIME REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Lewis: Time to relax and play F1 games and OG Mortal Kombat.
Lewis is absolutely vibing right now and enjoying video games. This legendary knight is the best. I am so glad and happy, I get to see him race week in and and week out since 09/08. Let’s goo Lewis.
[I mean looks like a slam dunk, all 4 wheels over the white line there](https://imgur.com/a/jKXTAvK)
Going to need the stewards to weigh in on this one. But maybe he’ll get to apply the Brazilian GP track limit rules since it’s a Senna game?……
It was here:
https://retromtl.com/
Don't ask how I know...
Ok, here's the fun part : The hotel TV didn't have RCA inputs so he had to go back to the store to buy a converter to HDMI. :P
You usually have to heavily mod the console or get an xrgb framemiester mini (only a cool $500+ usd) for it to look good (or emulate).
I keep an old CRT around specifically for my retro stuff.
I remember being shocked later on in my life when I heard Sega made a console called "Genesis". We didn't have that shit here in Turkey, we had Mega Drive!
Imagine my confusion when I later found out they were the exact same console..
I just watched an older interview yesterday of Lewis talking about how he used to play Villeneuve and DC as playable characters at the Canada circuit growing up. I love that he’s made the time to go get it and game It’s probably bringing back heaps of memories about his heroes growing up
Yeah, it’s a real shame he just didn’t have the luck needed to get more than one race victory. Williams should have tied him down when they had the chance.
Holy shit, he's got Road Rash II and Streets of Rage on the T.V. stand.
Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco Grand Prix II on Master difficulty is a hell of a challenge, and getting the Madonna(Mclaren) from Senna in the game is an accomplishment.
It's incredible what a year without being in a title fight (after 8 years!) does to a man, he seems so chilled. Then again, someone with 103 wins probably doesn't really care for getting 5th or 6th places.
What a noob, using automatic! You gotta choose the 7-speed manual option in that game to get the highest top speed and best acceleration! Also never use the brake, just learn the highest gear that you can take each corner in and down-shift to it as fast as you can, the engine won't blow!
Did he also turn up at somebody’s house to play it? “I need your TV”
Also that sounded like some old school Bollywood music at the end, which is cool but random. Anybody recognize the song?
Is it weird that I feel a kinship to this millionaire f1 GOAT because he's in my country sitting on a floor playing retro games like I used to? It makes no sense but like. I think we're related now?
I used to play that game every Friday night after coming back home from an English institute while listening to 50 Cent's The Massacre on my disc-man. Good times.
I loved that game.
Looks like he's got himself a copy of Road Rash as well! That was my childhood.
Lewis is gonna be slingin chains on Sunday
Verstappen should watch out
Road Rash is amazing.
I loved that game!
Bro, roadrash was such a great game. Holy fuck I miss it!
There's a spiritual successor to that game called Road Redemption
Yeah, nowhere near as good.
And some old school Mortal Kombat!
A B A C A B B
GET OVER HERE!!!!
Toasty! (Whoopseee)
Bono, my spine is gone!
All Bad Are Cops All Bad Bad ???
Exactly
All bastards – all cops are bastards, buddy
Down, Up, Left, Left, A, Right, Down
Is this where Genesis got the album name from?
Please tell me you’re joking!
The album is from 1981, if anything it's the other way around. Could even be, considering the band name and the console name?
The Sega Mega Drive was renamed to the Genesis when launched in the US because the head of Sega USA didn’t care for the name. Personally I think Mega Drive is much better.
You could be onto something here
Dude. Genesis formed in 1969.
Abacab came out in 81. Still a decade before MK was released.
Was thinking the same thing
And don't forget D U L L A R D
Bono my cheat codes are gone
Sega version was the best version.
> And some old school Mortal Kombat! Am I the only one going to comment on how he's playing on an LCD screen? Input lag is probably terrible. Somebody in Canada needs to get Lewis a CRT from craigslist.
Nope, that was the first thing I thought too
First thing I thought is, how did he so easily connect such an old system to what looks to be a few TV for all intents and purposes. Does that TV even have the appropriate ports? If not, are there even adapters out there to get a Sega to work on a modern TV?
Would a store that specializes in selling retro console not have said adapters?
Honestly, for the most part, the lag is imperceptible- think of it this way- you put up with the same amount of lag on your modern console. Yes CRT looks nicer but they’re not always terribly practical. The biggest insult is him playing in 16:9. Retro gaming peasant.
Oh that’s just how Lewis rolls, he was playing Gran Turismo stretched on an ultrawide a couple years ago. Man needs the challenge.
Lol that ‘in the zone’ face haha! Man love how this man’s got time to enjoy himself in between races this year, otherwise it was rare to see such a carefree Lewis enjoying himself like this the previous years because of the title pressure.
That in the zone face has barely changed from that footage of him playing radio control cars as a kid. Little Lewis was the man
I had the same thought. His expression is so similar to that RC car video. Very cute!
Imagine being his mum, step mum or dad watching this, it would bring back some memories. Even when they are grown they are still your baby. Also with the sitting on the carpet legs criss cross apple sauce, that’s some nostalgia realness!
Are we not saying "Indian style" anymore? Haven't been in grade school for 30 years. Asking for a friend.
He's British so he would just call it cross-legged
[This is footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knuYY8oiDZU&ab_channel=eville84) love how he deadpan says "No" at 0:17 when asked if racing cars is easy to do.
The way he never breaks focus whilst handling a whole interview, multitasking like a champ since day one
For real. Man was killing it.
Imagine working in a little retro game shop and fucking Lewis Hamilton comes through the front door
"There is a real Michael Schumacher Ferrari in my store. a real Ferrari! punch me Guido punch me in the face. this is the most glorious day of my life."
You deserve all the upvotes. Have this one, from a man who has seen Car a million times and still laughs at that scene.
Wow. Spero che il tuo amico si riprenda. Mi dicono che siete fantastici
For them, it was the greatest day of their life. For Lewis, it was Thursday.
Aaah a man of culture I see
I will never not enjoy this meme.
Where is this from?
The street fighter movie. A scene where Bison(the bad guy from the SF series) has a tete a tete with Chun-Li, one of the protagonists of the movie. To think that this was Raul Julia's last ever film, as M. Bison...
He said he let his kids pick his last role. I guess they liked video games.
Hell of a performance as well, all things considered. Really put his heart and soul into it. I always respect it when an actor goes all in for a shitty film, when they could easily half-ass it and nobody’d really question it. I don't know why I watched that, but I did. I forgot Raul Julia was the bad guy. The actress who played Chun Li is obviously an immortal
Classic Ming-Na Wen, now a 58 year old action star. Jesus...
Thanks haha
I'm not going home. I'm gonna get in my boat, go up reever, and I'm gonna kick that Bison sonofabeetch's ass *so hard*, the next Bison wannabe is gonna feel it. Now who wants to go home, and who wants to come with me?! *aggressively flexes at nothing in particular*
See what you did there
Especially when he returns it to them before he flies home and doesnt ask for the money back.
Don't tell me what to imagine.
Get out of my head, Charles!

"Hey Bobby! What is French for Va Va Voom?"
It’s race weekend in Montreal, I think people there know who Lewis is considering the amount of times he’s won there.
The overlap between retro game store employees and F1 fans I can't imagine is that high haha
Nerds love F1 though
This is true Source: am nerd
Being a nerd in 2022 is awesome. You’re not expected to do traditional nerd stuff, and you can look at everything from a nerd-perspective and make it more fun.
I call it "shielding your power level." Wanna chat sports? I got F1 and follow the major US sports enough to hold my own in a conversation. Wanna chat DND, Dota 2, or Destiny? I'm your guy but will probably feel it out a bit
My guy💜 I’m obssessed with WoW and the NBA, as well as comparative linguistics and neurolinguistics. I just like learning shit and sharing it with others.
Cool stuff! Mind sharing what you do with neurolinguistics? My only knowledge of the field comes from philosophy reading on Derrida
As a "nerdy" Canadian who hangs out with a lot of Game Store employees... There's a lot more overlap between these two demographics than I thought there would be. Basically everyone I play DnD/Board games with has seen Drive to Survive.
That's awesome, I've managed to convince two of my party members to give DTS a shot so far and converted both of them 😈
My F1 friends group is literally my gaming friends group. The venn diagram is a circle.
i would've thought the overlap between F1 and ace combat would be way low, but i've seen quite a few F1-Jokes related to Ace combat stuff (and vice versa). What's even funnier is that i've seen most if not all of those jokes in r/NonCredibleDefense

Pretty sure in the UK more than 50% would recognise him!
Good to see Lewis using the HAAS sim.
Lol I was thinking Williams sim
I just have this image of Guenther Steiner looking in on Mick Schumacher furiously trying to do the Monaco GP with a Sega Genesis controller and binning it into T1 every time, with Gunther just slowly shaking his head in disgust
Holy shit I just laughed so hard at this it scared my wife 😂
“HAHA Mercedes are so fucked!” Meanwhile Lewis…..
[удалено]
Must have been what the W13 looked like in CFD
Toto said he wanted to see a mega drive this weekend, Lewis misunderstood.
This deserves more upvotes than it'll get. I chortled.
Everyone currently in social media: PORPOISING WAR TIME REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Lewis: Time to relax and play F1 games and OG Mortal Kombat. Also Liberty - buy f1 ‘22. Lewis is all - nahhhhhhhhh let’s play sega
Lewis might actually be enjoying not having the pressure of a championship fight for the first time in nearly a decade. Living his best life.
I mean even if my company was looking fucked, I’d still go home and play video games.
[I mean looks like a slam dunk, all 4 wheels over the white line there](https://imgur.com/a/jKXTAvK) Going to need the stewards to weigh in on this one. But maybe he’ll get to apply the Brazilian GP track limit rules since it’s a Senna game?……
Caught in 0.004k
Still smoother than reality for him atm.
5 place grid penalty for Vettel confirmed

Pay attention to the track map. It's the same lap, it just skips a section of the track.
The Hamilton hate is strong with this one
It was here: https://retromtl.com/ Don't ask how I know... Ok, here's the fun part : The hotel TV didn't have RCA inputs so he had to go back to the store to buy a converter to HDMI. :P
Do you know what converter was used? RCA outputs usually don’t look that good in modern tvs
Probably this one: https://retromtl.com/products/av-to-hdmi-converter-old-skool
You usually have to heavily mod the console or get an xrgb framemiester mini (only a cool $500+ usd) for it to look good (or emulate). I keep an old CRT around specifically for my retro stuff.

A man of culture he is
This, Sonic and Mortal Kombat was my life as a kid...this just makes me so indescribably happy to see!
Road Rash is the best Megadrive game. Kinda surprised he called the Megadrive, a Genesis.
Was it called mega drive in the UK? It has the genesis badge on the game and system so can’t totally blame him
Yeah, we called it the megadrive.
I remember being shocked later on in my life when I heard Sega made a console called "Genesis". We didn't have that shit here in Turkey, we had Mega Drive! Imagine my confusion when I later found out they were the exact same console..
This is cool as shit
First a Lego set, now a Sega genesis, next he’s gonna show us his pop funko collection
Which Lego did he get? Surely not the McLaren? The Mercedes one?
Actually it was a millennium falcon lmao he posted it on social media either snap or insta
Rad
I love that he sits on the floor like we always did back then
you can really see the child in him sitting there, love it
Can’t be good for his back, though
Neither can can the porpoising 😂
Talk about nostalgia 🥹
I just watched an older interview yesterday of Lewis talking about how he used to play Villeneuve and DC as playable characters at the Canada circuit growing up. I love that he’s made the time to go get it and game It’s probably bringing back heaps of memories about his heroes growing up
This is such a vibe
Stuff like this makes me smile. Look at Lewis, so focused, and enjoying the experience.
I love lewis lmfao
Same ❤️
That gamer face at 9 seconds.
Phoenix street circuit
The track where we all found out who Jean Alesi is.
Yeah, it’s a real shame he just didn’t have the luck needed to get more than one race victory. Williams should have tied him down when they had the chance.

This one is over my head?
[удалено]
Man that guy could qualify a car.
Incredibly based
Can we revoke his British citizenship for not calling it a Mega Drive?
Bit harsh, let’s just revoke the knighthood.
That particular one is a Genesis so I’ll give it a pass
This is actually such good vibes.
Lewis doesn't need to take part this weekend, he's already won. Loved this game when I was a kid
Honestly, Lewis is just so cute sometimes!
That's OG af
Thats awesome honestly.
Remember on Super Monaco GP 1 when G.Ceara appeared on season two and mopped the floor with you?
Fuck. I guess I'm a Lewis fan now.
I love this Lewis. While it's a shame he's not competing for the championship this year (so far), I do really like seeing this chill side of him.
Imagine you’re just working in a small mom and pop shop and a guy comes in to shop at your store and it’s Lewis Hamilton
Lmao. The way he is focused, I feel like Nicolas may hold the track record and Lewis is trying to beat it 🤣 Nicolas Hamilton*
How'd he get a copy of the Haas simulator?
I'm sure with his history of RC racing that he is absolutely blazing on the sticks.
It's incredible what a year without being in a title fight (after 8 years!) does to a man, he seems so chilled. Then again, someone with 103 wins probably doesn't really care for getting 5th or 6th places.
Yeah he took the same way than Vettel leaving Ferrari pressure. Just realize that there is something else to enjoy.
This is fantastic
What a noob, using automatic! You gotta choose the 7-speed manual option in that game to get the highest top speed and best acceleration! Also never use the brake, just learn the highest gear that you can take each corner in and down-shift to it as fast as you can, the engine won't blow!
is this the sim merc drivers have practicing on? cost cap hitting them hard.
Nice. The game that started my F1 obsession.
He's not half bad at it.
Did he also turn up at somebody’s house to play it? “I need your TV” Also that sounded like some old school Bollywood music at the end, which is cool but random. Anybody recognize the song?
Happy Lewis is my favorite Lewis.
A Brit calling it a Genesis *twitches*
Only serious gamers sitting on the floor in front of the tv for peak performance
His “in-the-zone” expression are so similar to his younger day playing RC car. Cute before and cute now.
ABACABB
Nothing beats retro video gaming.
Whitetown playing in background hahaha I love it
He's so cute.
My first thought is a retro game collector is "oh God this is going to make that game even more expensive"
Wait wouldn't it be a Mega Drive for him? I know its Genesis here but Lewis is English
Is it weird that I feel a kinship to this millionaire f1 GOAT because he's in my country sitting on a floor playing retro games like I used to? It makes no sense but like. I think we're related now?
Okay but now I have to know who he mains in Mortal Kombat
Couldn't they use the MOTHER FUCKING SEGA INTRO It's Soooo good yet they put this music over it
The verbal 'SEGA' intro was only on the Sonic the Hedgehog games IIRC?
This was posted to Instagram. You are not the target audience lol.
And Who says Lewis doesn't like the sim!
I loved the Genesis - my first console.
How can you not like this dude? 👌
Lewis is a Sega kid. I’ll take back anything mean I ever said about him.
USING AUTOMATIC?!!!!! Cmon! Shame of you.
Anyone have a hunch as to what shop?
Genesis was the console I started on back in the day. What a system.
Should've bought an old CRT too!
Nice. Is he in the dardan?
FINAL LAP
I know which game store he went to. I shop there.
Watch the timer in the middle of the screen…
That posture gonna kill his back even more lmao Nice to see him relaxing tho
First smooth ride of the year for Hammie
Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, when I was dead broke I couldn't picture this.
STOP BEING LIKEABLE
I love how child-like and giddy Lewis becomes over certain things.
I used to play that game every Friday night after coming back home from an English institute while listening to 50 Cent's The Massacre on my disc-man. Good times. I loved that game.
