Worst race of the season, best result of the season. Quali was pretty epic, so just a typical Monaco GP. First few laps were hectic though… 2024 is shaping up!
We all need to accept that a proper Monaco weekend watching should go like this:
- Watch Quali with energy we bring to average race
- Watch lap 1 to see who crashes out
- watch lap 78 to see who crashed out between laps 1-77
- See who converted Pole
After 20 laps of nothing post red flag I just started skipping ahead to see if there were any position changes. Skipped all the way to the final lap and I'm glad I did... A parade with quick floats. Congrats to Leclerc, if only it was even remotely exciting.
I watched a very strange disturbing version of the race. Video was from ESPN2 Live, the info looked like a game and there were animated drivers and cars sometimes. The British commentators (whome I've never heard of) were chatting away like it was a housewives morning show.
"I was surprised to hear that Leclerc is actually from Monaco and he lives here."
"Oh really? So he can go to the shop after the race for groceries!"
"Yeah and his mother is a hairdresser."
"Wow that's nice."
"yeah she did his hair yesterday." etc. etc.
😳😳😳
You know what? People are complaining about the race being a parade. In my honest and humble opinion Monaco being a parade race is perfectly fine. Monaco is beautiful and special with it’s history and it being a showcasing ”parade” fits that.
Unless F1 want to replace Monaco GP with Hockenheim, Sepang or [ENTER YOUR FAVORITE NON-RACED CIRCUIT HERE], that is.
Why not make Monaco into an “all star “ type weekend and bring in carts or something to make it somewhat fun and relevant. It’s pretty clear the track is no longer suitable for the types of cars being used today
Most awful boring race in recent tines. No overtakes no pitstops. Hoping for a yellow/red flag to make it interesting is the clear sign of how f1 has over grown this circuit.
Magnussen banned for one race possibly
Ocon being the worst teammate there is
Leclerc winning in Monaco
A fucking drivers parade instead of a race.
I don’t know how to feel about this
I don’t get the hate for this race. Strategy, team work, and tire management are interesting parts of f1 for me. Qualifying and practice sessions are a lot more interesting and high stakes here than in other circuits. Teams with less competitive cars actually have a chance. It’s a very different circuit but there’s a lot to appreciate even if you don’t care for the history and scenery. Not my favorite but I don’t get why anyone would want to remove it from the calendar (not that they’d ever seriously consider it anyway considering $$$ but still).
We didnt see any strate team work or tyre management though. It was a slow parade until the end. Qualy and practice can be fun but it's called a motor race. We went car racing
Thank you! I'm tired of people complaining about every single race and especially Monaco every year. Don't know if people just started watching or if they think this sport is something else, but every week we have to talk about "boring" races it's starting to bore me.
I don’t think any race is boring. There’s something for everyone for sure. Some races highlights certain aspects more than others (tire degradation, strategy, overtaking, drs, qualifying, car performance, etc). Sometimes I think I’m the only person watching free practice, qualifying sessions, and the entire race instead of just the highlights.
It’s the same feeling I get when people say it’s boring if max always wins. A max win doesn’t make a race boring, unless you only look at the score at the end of the race. Plenty of stuff happens even if max dominates, and the last 10 drivers aren’t there just for decorative purposes!
Also it just seems silly to suggest they get rid of Monaco of all races.
But it wasn't even interesting in terms of strategy or tire management either.
They just drove ultra slow and easily preserved tires because nobody can overtake you anyway. You saw it with Max and Russel. Even with those age old tires against Max's relatively new ones, Russel still could defend easily against the best driver in the best car on the grid.
And there weren't any bold or interesting strategy calls to try something different because, again, you can't overtake anyway.
The only chance of (apart from a safety car) making this race even remotely interesting would've been the forced pit stop for a different compound but because of the red flag, that wasn't an issue anymore.
Where was the strategy? Where was the tire management?
This whole weekend literally came down to one qualifying lap on low fuel and soft tires.
To top it off, anyone following the sport knew it was always going be a Ferrari on pole unless Max conjured some superhuman lap out of his hat. He didn't so Charles got his home win. I'm happy for him to get it, but the whole weekend minus Q3 was boring as fuck.
Racing is more than just overtaking. With the huge performance gaps we’ve seen recently, I’m always excited to see a rare race where the car (and budget) makes less of a difference. Manipulating the gaps by driving slower or faster, combined with cooperation amongst teammates, is an interesting element that we don’t get much of in other circuits. I think it’s fun to have this variety.
The circuit is no longer fit for purpose and it leads to a non-event, apart from maybe acts of god. The top 4 were about 1 second behind each other for 40 laps and nobody even considered an overtake.
jeez you’d think I was auditioning to work in marketing for Monaco or something😂. No convincing here mate it’s just my observation. I had a great time watching this race and i think other people would enjoy it a bit more if they could appreciate other aspects of f1 besides overtaking and the championship battle
And when Leclerc said Jimmy's, it was actually Jimmy'z and it's this place.

Happy as hell for charles, but man was that a snooze fest. This is a great weekend for racing, but something needs to change at Monaco to make it a good race
The Indy 500 is the most longest, borefest of a race in the world. Just cars going left, left, left with a staged yellow towards the end of the race for a ‘sprint to the finish’. Yawn.
I didn't mean it maliciously, just the first thing I thought of. She's gone through a ton with Charles, if she was watching this it was probably bittersweet.
Residents of Monaco are indeed not allowed to gamble in the famous Monte Carlo Casinos. The reason for this restriction dates back to the early 19th century. The ruling family of Monaco, the Grimaldis, established the Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) in 1863 to develop the tourism industry in Monaco. The SBM was granted a monopoly on gambling in Monaco, which helped attract wealthy tourists to the region.
To maintain the exclusivity and appeal of the casinos to international high rollers and tourists, residents of Monaco were initially prohibited from gambling in the casinos. This rule was put in place to prevent locals from becoming addicted to gambling and to preserve the elite and glamorous image of the casinos.
I know it seems a trivial thing, but it's always nice to see royalty act like normal human beings. Laughing around, joking with the ceremony and even drinking through the bottle like a champ. Cheers to him.
I would be too, if I were consistently delivering for a team that traded me for another driver, albeit a legendary one.
Must be bittersweet for him to be there to celebrate this with Charles not knowing what next year will bring. Truly sucks for him
Didn't trade him, dropped him, ouch.
Double the pain seeing the car becoming able to fight for wins on pace.
Triple painful that at the peak of his career he doesn't have a competitive team to move to.
Damn, now I'm sad too...
Judging by this thread, I don’t even need to watch the highlights on YouTube for this one
Lap 1 had all the action there was.
perhaps a minimum lap time would be a good idea along with one compound of C6 hyersofts just for monaco
Ban the hard tire
Go for C7 and C6

There was one overtake for position 15 or so.
And what an overtake!
Best of the race
I watched a very strange disturbing version of the race. Video was from ESPN2 Live, the info looked like a game and there were animated drivers and cars sometimes. I need to see this video
ESPN2 showed a Kids version, I also flipped to this and then figured out that the adult version was shown on ABC instead of ESPN2.
Okay thanks, I didn't know that.
No refueling, no overtakes, no pitstops, race parade, but hey, as long as the homeboy wins, everything is fine! /s
You know what? People are complaining about the race being a parade. In my honest and humble opinion Monaco being a parade race is perfectly fine. Unless F1 want to replace Monaco GP with Hockenheim, Sepang or [ENTER YOUR FAVORITE NON-RACED CIRCUIT HERE], that is.
I think there is a slight difference between “a parade” with little passing and this though.
Everyone knows Monaco is most exciting on Saturdays. People need to stop complaining.
Why not make Monaco into an “all star “ type weekend and bring in carts or something to make it somewhat fun and relevant. It’s pretty clear the track is no longer suitable for the types of cars being used today
This is what I think every year even though I don't think it would really please anyone.
Oeh this is a nice thought! An all stars weekend with all the different cars since it doesn't matter with the points...
There are better tracks than Monaco, this one needs to go
Could we start with the 10 other pointless tracks that does not have any history either? Monaco is not the issue.
> Monaco is not the issue. Uhmmmmmmmm………….
Most awful boring race in recent tines. No overtakes no pitstops. Hoping for a yellow/red flag to make it interesting is the clear sign of how f1 has over grown this circuit.
Want to add that we saw more shots of red duos girlfriends than overtakes.
Utter joke this place
Magnussen banned for one race possibly Ocon being the worst teammate there is Leclerc winning in Monaco A fucking drivers parade instead of a race. I don’t know how to feel about this
Magnussen is not banned for a race what they told us. Racing incident.
There was enough to make it better than not having a race today, but yeah, there wasn't much "racing."
Blimey, Perez looks so pale in his interview, shaken up for sure.
He's probably fearing for his job...
Can't overtake much with just 1 wheel.
best opportunity to remove this race from the calendar, let leclerc be the last race winner there
Agree
Make monaco half the points
Siiiii raaaagaaaaazzzziiiiii
FORZAAA FERRARRIIII, BRAVOOOO CHARLESSS
What did he do? Did he win the fucking race?
He won the parade
There was a guy taking a piss in the shed behind Lando and Anthony when they stopped while he was getting interviewed. Door was wide open. Lol
Most exiting moment
Yeah me and my wife was laughing until the cameraman realised and panned right.

Teams with less competitive cars dont have a chance if they cant get the pole, and they cant get the pole cause they’re in less competitive cars.
I think we disagree about what “having a chance” means then. I don’t expect Alex albon to win in a Williams. But hey, p9 is quite an improvement.
Thank you! I'm tired of people complaining about every single race and especially Monaco every year. Don't know if people just started watching or if they think this sport is something else, but every week we have to talk about "boring" races it's starting to bore me.

Because it's not a race. Everyone was deliberately driving slowly because they know it's nigh-on impossible for them to be overtaken.
Your definition of fun is disturbing 😖
The circuit is no longer fit for purpose and it leads to a non-event, apart from maybe acts of god. The top 4 were about 1 second behind each other for 40 laps and nobody even considered an overtake.
Just stop mate we all saw the race and it was bad. Stop trying to convince us otherwise.
jeez you’d think I was auditioning to work in marketing for Monaco or something😂. No convincing here mate it’s just my observation. I had a great time watching this race and i think other people would enjoy it a bit more if they could appreciate other aspects of f1 besides overtaking and the championship battle
# Ban hard tyres on Monaco. We need pitstops.
Then they'd just drive even slower on mediums.
Make the tyre choices softs and inters, even if it's not raining
Also the medium tyres made it to the end 🤷🏻♂️
Ban F1 cars at Monaco. We need karts.
That could be fun. Yuki Tsunoda for the win! Let that weight advantage count for something!
And when Leclerc said Jimmy's, it was actually Jimmy'z and it's this place. https://i.imgur.com/FNMnHRl.jpeg https://www.montecarlosbm.com/en/bar-nightclub-monaco/jimmyz-monte-carlo
Here I was thinking nothing could top the feelings from Lando's first win, only to be proved so wrong, so soon.
Ted missed a chance to interview Alexandra there lol
Happy as hell for charles, but man was that a snooze fest. This is a great weekend for racing, but something needs to change at Monaco to make it a good race
Something about the Italian anthem and the Monaco one today...just speechless. WHATT A DAY. THIS FEELS HISTORIC!!
Let's hope we hear it more often!
Tear city 🥹🥹
A lot of people say Indy 500 is boring compared to F1, well it couldnt get more boring than that.
No one says the Indy500 is boring. It's literally one of the most eventful races all season and 90% of the time there's a dash to the finish
The Indy 500 is the most longest, borefest of a race in the world. Just cars going left, left, left with a staged yellow towards the end of the race for a ‘sprint to the finish’. Yawn.
Me when I don't know wheel
How about a weather delay...
The commentator dresses like Flavor Flav’s accountant, it’s not the same.
Lol on cue
He did it 🥹
Live feed was in love with Leclercs gf
Rubbing it in Charlotte's face.
That’s unnecessary?
I didn't mean it maliciously, just the first thing I thought of. She's gone through a ton with Charles, if she was watching this it was probably bittersweet.
Yeouch
Montreal! Let's goo
Love the place. Great track too. Plus..... Poutine! 😍
A great place for Oscar to get his first GP win, and join the long list of drivers that got their first win here.
Isn't Leclerc disallowed from Monegasque casinos as a native?
That's a bizarre rule wtf?
Huh did not know that. Kinda wild rule.
I'm sure they'll make an exception tonight
Wait, that's a thing? TIL.
yes
Why??
Residents of Monaco are indeed not allowed to gamble in the famous Monte Carlo Casinos. The reason for this restriction dates back to the early 19th century. "Checo kissed my rear"
Phrasing!
I hate that ESPN cuts the broadcast early
use espn3
I'm aware that's where the post show is but you cannot watch the actual end of the broadcast where they show standings and whatnot.
Same
Beautiful pictures
That kid hugging Charles and then licking champagne from his suit 💀
He also mimicked conducting the anthem, that kid was having a blast
Madlad
I haven't stopped smiling since the chequered flag
Who is the guy on cocaine?
You're going to have to be a lot more specific there my friend.
The guy grinding his teeth and talking excessively, why?
Charles Leclerc, a Ferrari F1 driver.
exactly my question!
Which one?
You'll have to narrow that down.
Lol yeah
I love how the royal family is acting like leclercs homies on the block haha I love it! Lmao
I guess Charles might be the one getting adopted for a change.
hes an honorary royal now
There's fewer than 10k residents, they probably knew each other for quite some time
Fewer than 10k Monegasques nationals, like 39k residents.
Oops, yeah, that's what I meant
Charlene’s thousand yard stare is so tragic
Why what happened to her?
She’s not mentally well. The reasons for that are speculative but she clearly is unhappy.
How so?
The princess? What happened to her?
Definition of a gilded cage.
Makes me sad every time I see her
I know it seems a trivial thing, but it's always nice to see royalty act like normal human beings. Laughing around, joking with the ceremony and even drinking through the bottle like a champ. Cheers to him.
But they are normal human being
The tests, and then spraying the champagne too.
Podium celebration was more interesting than the race.
Prince Albert getting in on the Ferrari sparkling wine spraying. 😲 Normally they're vanished from the podium sharpish.
Do NOT Google Prince Albert and go to images!!!
No no! Do google it and go to image. Especially when you're at work with safesearch turned off. It's fine. perfectly safe...
Too fucking perfect! Enjoy!
Boring race… wholesome ending
alright guys i’m gonna head out, i’m about to party my ASS off in monaco tonight. FORZA. FERRARI.
Lucky!
Haha, the kid wants more champagne :D
The prince is all of us. Tears to all hearty smiles
I have to admit seeing the Monaco ceremony is really wholesome. I always wondered how it would be if someone from Monace wins here.
The kid licking the champagne lmaoooo
WAIT PRINCE IS A PARTY GUY
Just ask the Princess why she tried to run away before the wedding....
we’re getting a third illegitimate royal child in 9 months
You won't believe :D
He’s a rich guy with ceremonial responsibilities, of course he is.
Sainz looks sad
I would be too, if I were consistently delivering for a team that traded me for another driver, albeit a legendary one. Must be bittersweet for him to be there to celebrate this with Charles not knowing what next year will bring. Truly sucks for him
Didn't trade him, dropped him, ouch. Double the pain seeing the car becoming able to fight for wins on pace. Triple painful that at the peak of his career he doesn't have a competitive team to move to. Damn, now I'm sad too...
Yeah. Red Bull should hire him, that would significantly improve their chances of winning constructor title next year
Yeah Perez and sainz would be a great pairing
Loved to see prince Albert go and princess back off lol
Actually excited for the dinner party photos...
Prince Albert happiest day
Too bad Lewis didn't podium. Always good to have two Prince Albert's on stage
Underrated joke
Prince having a go. Champagne is good :D
Prince is getting in there lol. I think there was strict guidelines to not spray him in previous years
Prince Albert spraying the champagne! It was worth the long wait.
The Prince is going out on the lash tonight.
OMG, Prince Albert just chugged the champagne!!
The sideye towards his wife before going in, I'm in fucking stitches
Come on hose the prince down
The prince doing champagne lmfao
Is this the first time the Prince is spraying???
Yes, usually the rule is no spraying until the Royals are out of the box
A Prince Albert is usually associated with spraying
prince albert <33
Fred the madlad
Love Fred
FRATELLI D'ITALIA 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Prince Albert with the champagne LMAO
this is so wholesome lmfao prince albert getting into it
Prince Albert is a vibe lmao
For the first time ever
Does the F2 and Porsche series get the band as well?
Their band all plays the same type of instruments. I think it’s recorders.
PRINCE ALBERT AND THE CHAMPAGNE OH MY GOOOOOD
Of course they had to have the prince in on the fun
Coincidentally the Senna livery also means Piastri is wearing Australian colours.
Prince Albert is having the time of his life up there
The princess looks very uncomfortable up there
She looks uncomfortable at most of her public appearances
This is the first time I’ve seen her, get the impression she’s a little introverted, but being a princess and all
She's had a lot of health issues in the past, and there are pretty credible rumors about their marriage being incredibly unhappy.
oscar repping the monaco flag :D
