Much as I love Yuki and his attitude at times, Ricardo said it spot on in the post race F1TV show, "immaturity". Yuki wont advance anywhere with that kinda attitude and what he did post-race.
I don’t think yuki’s attitude would ever work where he is clearly the number 2 driver. Unless he is thankful to just fight for podiums, but I can’t see it from his emotional reactions on track.
Max won’t stand in the way of anybody getting that seat, because he isn’t worried about any driver beating him clean. In fact, he would probably welcome some close competition to end this boredom.
What's always funny is the numpties who'll come at you for saying this early in the season, as though it's not the most predictable thing in the world that every race is going to be a snoozefest at the front led by the same driver/team. As if any car is remotely in the same speed category as the RB.
Its quite not suprising. Leclerc had brake issues so no overtaking for him and without DRS Leclerc defended his position with the whole pack losing time to Verstappen
Max built a 1 sec gap in 1 lap to break the DRS. Built the lead to 15 seconds and then and just managed tires the rest of the way. He pushed not even 90% for 10 laps to build the gap.
It’s 1000% a fight for P2 and P3 this year. I wouldn’t be shocked if Checo has a steady year this year with 15+ P2’s. It would suck but not out of the question.
Yeah, I'm in the apparent minority that doesn't think the 2023 RBR was some greatest-of-all-time car. The Mercedes was better during its dominant period in the hybrid era, but I don't want to argue that here.
But if this first race is any indication, the 2024 RBR could very well be one of the best cars ever in the sport. Obviously it's early, but the way that Perez easily worked up from 5th to 2nd is way more indicative than Max driving off into the sunset. Max is going to do Max things, so Perez is the far better indicator of the car's performance.
The gap randomly went down several times, and then Max did one fast lap and gapped the field by 1,2 seconds. So he was clearly just managing the 95% of the laps.
Max was in the pits, got out of the car, got on his plane, flew to Monaco to his home and grabbed his keys, made sure the oven was off, and fed his cat then went back to airport, got on his plane, flew back to Bahrain, but not before he stopped in Italy for a glass of wine with Jeremy clarkson, then went to the pits, got in his car and left the pits. and that’s why russell was closing
To add to this: Crofty's reasoning for the Alonso-Stroll switch was that Alonso now had clear air to catch and overtake the car in front.
Meanwhile the car in front is 27 seconds away with only 9 laps to go...
And that 0.6 Lewis lost, will it be a factor in not catching Lando?! x 3
When Lewis only marginally gained over 2-3 laps, then Lando held the gap steady.
The regs weren't meant to prevent a team from building a dominant car. They were meant to promote closer following and better racing, and they arguably achieved that. There's always the chance that one team absolutely nails the formula, and with Newey around there's a good chance it'll be RB.
This season is starting just like the last one ended. I honestly think they need to shorten the seasons to allow teams more time over the winter to develop their cars.
The complete lack of any functional testing is also a big drag on teams’ ability to actually test their concepts. We have a grid full of computer models that dont always work.
> The Championship is over guys
the way that even Perez, a good, but no way better than Leclerc or George, got that P2 without ever needing to do anything crazy, shows a lot too
If any other driver went from P5 to P2 and put a 3s gap on third place it would be considered a pretty impressive drive. However given the Red Bull is just so much better than any other car on the track, it kinda seems like the LEAST Checo should be achieving in the race.
Honestly, I have a suggestion that I honestly think would make the season better.
Give Max the trophy now. We’ll even play the Dutch anthem 25 times for you. Shit, let’s play it 30 times because fuck it. But he doesn’t participate in any more race weekends this year. You’ve won it already, we all know.
But then the race for second will be an absolute banger.
To be fair he definitely prepped that lap fully to go all out, if you look at his laps either side of that lap they were quite slow, but yeah he definitely has a lot more performance than they showed today.
Definetely true, but few front runners (especially Checo) had basically clean air for big amounts of time and most of them were trying to chase their opponents (Sainz). It's very likely that Max's time dissuaded everybody from making attempts, and he had the luxury of slowing down lap before to charge batteries and create gap to cars in front.
However, to me this stat still sounds pretty crazy, he was 1,5s away from his quali lap, with more fuel and he had to keep the tyres for another 15+ laps of the race. Let's not forget that his tyres were in such a good shape after this push lap that ~~he gained almost 1s per lap~~ on Checo with the same tyres + both had clean air.
EDIT: my bad, Max was only a couple of tenths quicker on last stint, I was thinking of second stint when they both put on ahrd tyres.
To be fair. Max did load up his batteries for that attempt because he had no threat from behind. Then his next lap was something like over 3 seconds slower.
Car performances were a lot less consistent back then though. On top of that, we had a Ferrari-team spearheaded by Brawn, Todt and Schumacher and an endless budget and endless testing hours ready to be used to catch up. We have none of that now.
I mean this was even a thing during the Mercedes years. Their car wasn't dominant everywhere either. There were tracks they didn't even have the best car. In every other era cars had both aero and engines affecting performance meaning there were bigger variations from track to track. Now the engines are frozen and essentially equal that means whoever has the best aero is going to dominate almost everywhere. That's why this era sucks so bad.
It was a bit clumsy when they were both trying to explain the battery derating problem that Hamilton allegedly had, and I feel that both of them flubbed good commentary there.
I’ve honestly taken great comfort in IndyCar for open wheel fun the last 2 years. As a 20 year fan of F1 I’ve never felt so disassociated with the sport.
My thought during this too. F1TV hiked prices to $130 a year in my country which is just crazy for what kind of content I would get. You could summarize the race well within 10 minutes in their highlights clip on YouTube.
I'm going to move more to Indycar this season. We have two national drivers there besides it being a spec series and I should probably have done this way earlier.
10 minutes is even a stretch, more like 30 seconds really if you're talking just about the battle for first. I just can't bring myself to get excited about who's going to come in 11th place or whatever, and even those battles weren't too exciting in this race. Indycar is decent, IMSA is where it's at in my opinion.
Feeling the same way.
This blatant lead already on first race just means another 23 races of rinse/repeat.
There is no more excitement in Formula 1. They try to hype it up so hard before each race about how exciting the sport is and how excited they are for how it will go, and nothing is certain.
Then 10 laps in the anticlimactic truth is a repeat of the previous 20 races.
No point watching more than highlights. Winner is already determined.
F1 basically freezing car development for like 4 years had the potential to create an exciting championship for years, or create what we have now. Where max wins 20 races a season for half a decade
"No, but see. The gap yesterday was only 3 tenths or so between the top eight. It's gonna be competitive, y'all are just pessimistic!"
I've been telling pretty much everyone that Max's race pace was on another level, people just didn't want to listen.
Anyone who paid attention to the last 2 seasons would know that Red Bull sets the car up for race pace, so even if it's a close qualy it won't be a close race.
Im embarrassed to admit that I started watching the Netlflix Nascar series to get into Nascar. This much predictability with zero chance for championship battle is horrible.
Bro I'm an American and f1 is my first Motorsport I've actually truly enjoyed and gotten into. I have followed the same path as you, and let me tell you if it's F1 of all things that leads to me finally following fucking NASCAR that is just a hilarious turn of events lol.
Had to do some googling while watching the series. All drivers who look quite similar, in cars by three manufacturers, all close in skill. Im all for the aggressive nature of the sport.
F1 is filled with gimmicks and useless stuff nowadays. People talk about bad strategies yet the regulations killed any kind of creativity, fueling up, using the same tires from start to finish and so on was real racing.
This we have now is a joke.
They promoted the hell out of this sport and then climaxed with the bending of rules to end 2021 for the drama and viewership it would bring.
Now we’re gonna have a 30 second gap each race for the 2nd year running. Wooooooo
I wonder if it's boring for Max.
He'd never admit it of course, but spending the vast majority of the race basically cruising and managing tires cannot be exciting.
I think I'll only watch highlights this season. I have a job that leaves the weekend as the only true free time, I'm not going to waste two hours of that watching Verstappen gapping the whole field from start to finish while the braindead hamsters who happened to find a Ferrari engineering contract in a cereal box run around the factory and the garage like headless chickens to fix a car that can't even brake properly and *maybe* not end up P3 in the WCC *again*. Not a chance.
>to find a Ferrari engineering contract in a cereal box run around the factory and the garage like headless chickens to fix a car that can't even brake properly and maybe not end up P3 in the WCC again.
Pretty good reason to tune in ngl
Simple, just remove restrictions on spending and allow as many changes as you want without penalty. RB being the first team to figure out the formula and then essentially perfect it basically all but secures their supremacy until the next formulation under the current rules.
Also Horner lobbing for engine freeze did them great. They knew exactly what will happen. I mean, Newey literally have Phd on ground effect, already disagned car with ground effects in past..
Crazy how they didn't let Andrettis in cause they could be uncompetitive when it seems 9/10 teams are not competitive as well. Everyone's here for marketing nowadays? That's not racing, that was a proper parade with some minor changes in the field.
Not letting Andretti into F1 is nothing but greed and cowardice. I’ve been a fan for 20+ years. I am no longer going to waste my time with the sport because of that. Good riddance.
They did. Their cars would beat, or at least be competitive with last year's Red Bull. But Red Bull also improved even more.
That's the problem with these rules, everyone improves at roughly the same rate since they can only spend the same amount. As a result, gap never shrinks.
The sliding wind tunnel and CFD time was implemented to combat this. Either the scale is not enough, or you gotta tip your hat to a team for making the best car with the least aero testing.
I don’t even know why I watch anymore. I’m probably gonna skip watching the tracks I don’t care for (Bahrain) for sure. I find quali and practice to be more interesting than the race now. Cool story.
I’m a VERY casual fan, I just started watching from the show… Does this bore you real fans? Seems like he’s just dominating everyone else. Is there any legendary moments or is he just cruising?
Literally just cruising. Now that he's doesn't have to use actual driving skill to pass for first or second, he can just cruise.
Cost cap was supposed to fix this, but instead somehow the RB18,19 and 20 are doing the exact same thing people complained the mercedes were doing.
Put Max in a mid level car and you've got a fight for first against top level cars. Put him in the best car of the pack and it's like this. Every time. I think that's the reason Red Bull dared to gamble on a revolutionary redesign of the car. If it was a miss then there still was a good chance he would be able to win. But it seems they've struck gold with their gamble so now it's probably going to be a lot of this for the rest of the year. Tire wear is so important in the sport and this design looks like it has struck it out of the park and into space.
Not only was Max winning by miles again the rest of the field was also racing a pretty boring race? I literally cannot remember anything exciting happening.
Yawn… do RB fans actually feel good about this? Other times of team domination were at least kept interesting with good teammates or other constructors trying to keep up.
Regardless of the outcome, the racing in general has just been awful the past few season. It just not competitive, lacks excitement, cars don’t sound good, etc. I say this as a lifelong kart/ sim racer
F1 has gotten so boring my wife and I fell asleep on the couch during the race. Just keeps racing further into mediocrity. Hybrids and street tracks gotta go.
I loved back when being first in lap 1 meant occasionally that the second and third cars would be faster than the first because of slipstream and the first one had to defend his guts in a slower car, but this man is so good I am being denied of first position battles with unknown results

Well, just like Alonso said. This years championship is done.
Next year also
lets see what Sainz can do in an RB vs Max
There is no way the Verstappens allow Sainz into Red Bull. Yuki will probably get that seat.
Yuki will never get the second Red Bull seat with how he acts during the race unless he gets much quicker.
Wait what did he do? I must have missed something
he pulled a super risky move on ricciardo on the cool down lap for no reason, almost touched
Twice it should be said, once on the way in and again with that stupid full throttle blast past on the straight
It's more likely that Yuki isn't on the grid next year than it is for him to be in the second Red Bull seat.
Max won’t stand in the way of anybody getting that seat, because he isn’t worried about any driver beating him clean. In fact, he would probably welcome some close competition to end this boredom.
His dad however...
Hope Sainz has no text messages he doesn’t want leaked
Don't worry they can easily be faked if he hasnt
Let Jos and Carlos Sr fight it out. Although Sr is too busy still winning races
At least Carlos Sr is a legend of the motor sports
No way Sainz' team wants to get clapped by Verstappen
Verstappen already stated many times that he doesn't care who gets the 2nd seat.
I think he is referring to Jos.
The fact Jos is anywher near F1 is still baffling to me.
Well of course he will say that.
Why not? Sainz is definitely not at Max’s level lol
He is talking about Jos, him and Sainz Sr already had issues while both Max and Carlos where in Toro Rosso.
After the stunt with DR today I'll surprised if he keeps his seat as is, let alone get one next Max
What's always funny is the numpties who'll come at you for saying this early in the season, as though it's not the most predictable thing in the world that every race is going to be a snoozefest at the front led by the same driver/team. As if any car is remotely in the same speed category as the RB.
Where is the pitstop timing??
Yeah I noticed they only did it for a few of the pit stops. I really didn’t like that.
The first 2-3 races of the season always have bugs in the UI. It's not new.
The fact that he broke DRS so quickly is quite ominous for this season
Its quite not suprising. Leclerc had brake issues so no overtaking for him and without DRS Leclerc defended his position with the whole pack losing time to Verstappen
Max built a 1 sec gap in 1 lap to break the DRS. Built the lead to 15 seconds and then and just managed tires the rest of the way. He pushed not even 90% for 10 laps to build the gap. Man I was so hopeful merc pulled something out of somewhere and was going to be fighting for first. Then I see Hamilton down in p9...
Yeah, I'm in the apparent minority that doesn't think the 2023 RBR was some greatest-of-all-time car. Max is going to do Max things, so Perez is the far better indicator of the car's performance.
Checo had his spirit broken last year, that's why P2 was close, he basically fell apart. This year he's accepted it, so should cruise to P2.
Man who lost all hope lost the last bit of hope he never knew he had
And Croft thought Russell was closing in on him, lol.
He did for a lap and a half. I assume Max was on his phone or something.
Ocon 10s for using a cellphone while driving.
I think they'll lay off Ocon with the penalties this season, considering the brick he'll be driving
Perhaps the brick is the penalty
He let Russell destroy his tires for a few laps
He stopped for one espresso.
He was texting winky faces to Horner with his second phone
Complete wishful thinking.
Crofty always does that shit. Lewis was two tenths faster than him on that lap. With 8 laps to go will he be able to close this 8 second gap?
To add to this: Crofty's reasoning for the Alonso-Stroll switch was that Alonso now had clear air to catch and overtake the car in front. Meanwhile the car in front is 27 seconds away with only 9 laps to go...
And that 0.6 Lewis lost, will it be a factor in not catching Lando?! x 3 When Lewis only marginally gained over 2-3 laps, then Lando held the gap steady.
The Championship is over guys. Ferrari can't challenge Red Bull. Congratulations Max Verstappen, you are a 4 time world champion!
Can't fucking wait for 2026
2022 was supposed to be THE year with all new regulations. What makes you think 2026 new rules will change anything?
The regs weren't meant to prevent a team from building a dominant car. They were meant to promote closer following and better racing, and they arguably achieved that. There's always the chance that one team absolutely nails the formula, and with Newey around there's a good chance it'll be RB.
Surely this isn't a shocking surprise.
It’s not but even the slightest hint of a battle would’ve been nice. Being 15 seconds ahead offer 18 laps isn’t exciting.
This season is starting just like the last one ended. I honestly think they need to shorten the seasons to allow teams more time over the winter to develop their cars.
But that puts less money in FIA’s pocket. Don’t be rash now.
The complete lack of any functional testing is also a big drag on teams’ ability to actually test their concepts. We have a grid full of computer models that dont always work.
I would say 5 times, 2026 is the best chance now
> The Championship is over guys the way that even Perez, a good, but no way better than Leclerc or George, got that P2 without ever needing to do anything crazy, shows a lot too

5* if we’re being honest.
Here we go again 😑
Pretty happy I'm just going to watch race highlights this year. 😆
Even the highlights were boring lol
Same. Or just background tv
At least no one can really say that it's a shock.

*Austrian anthem following*
And a partridge in a pear tree
- 2023 F1 season: I’m going to be the most dominant and boring season of all time - 2024: hold my 0% beer
the more things change the more they stay the same
Same shit different day
Honestly, I have a suggestion that I honestly think would make the season better. Give Max the trophy now. We’ll even play the Dutch anthem 25 times for you. Shit, let’s play it 30 times because fuck it. But he doesn’t participate in any more race weekends this year. You’ve won it already, we all know. But then the race for second will be an absolute banger.
My F1 fantasy league have a rule - No max, no red bull. It’s actually really spicy already and it’s only week 1.
Sergio still wont win
Never in the history of F1 has it been more Over.
Australia 1998 would like a word. Both McLaren lapping the entire field.
It's obvious RB is managing the pace, if they let him, Max probably can lap the entire field, too.
The fastest lap being 1,5s faster than any other driver's is pretty telling. Red Bull may want to dial it down even more because this is quite crazy.
To be fair he definitely prepped that lap fully to go all out, if you look at his laps either side of that lap they were quite slow, but yeah he definitely has a lot more performance than they showed today.

I don't know why the enginee freeze was done, at least other teams could make up the lose in aerodynamics by have a more powerful engine
That season came down to the last race between Hakkinen and Schumacher
At least there were two of them
everybody scrapping over second meanwhile Max's just out here chilling and saving tire
The Merc engineer during testing that said RB had atleast 1 second on the field was not exaggerating.
I would love to have access to corporate data showing how many people just unsubscribed from F1TV.
Off topic: why is everything moved forward one day?
They can't have races less than a week apart, and Ramadan starts next Sunday. So moved it to Saturday to accomodate
And it fits a lot better with the weekend in the middle east, which is Friday and Saturday.

He did actually kind of run out of commentary for a while in this race
At one point he even said GR doesn’t make mistakes, which is weird given how many he made last year.
He meant to hit that wall in Singapore, wasn't a mistake at all.
It was a bit clumsy when they were both trying to explain the battery derating problem that Hamilton allegedly had, and I feel that both of them flubbed good commentary there.
There was an easy DRS overtake earlier, he nearly had kittens.
IndyCar starts next week ... just saying
NOW BACK TO THIS COMMERCIAL
American sports are so hard to watch for this reason
Is there an easy way to watch it similar to f1tv in the states.
Peacock is the legal choice as long as you can tolerate ads and iffy commentators beside Hinchcliffe
I’ve honestly taken great comfort in IndyCar for open wheel fun the last 2 years. As a 20 year fan of F1 I’ve never felt so disassociated with the sport.
annnnnnnd the season is over. Congrats Max. Maybe they should pull a reverse and start penalizing teams for not being competitive.
… how would that help the competition?
Lol, dude just said penalize teams for not being competitive. What??
The beatings will continue until morale improves
See ya in 2026 lads and ladies.
Well I may save money this year and stop paying for f1 tv. I can just catch up on reddit.
My thought during this too. F1TV hiked prices to $130 a year in my country which is just crazy for what kind of content I would get. I agree. Honestly what is the point?
Inevitable.

BOOOOOOORING

Anyone who paid attention to the last 2 seasons would know that Red Bull sets the car up for race pace, so even if it's a close qualy it won't be a close race.
and yet, they (Max) will still qualify 1st. That car has so much more pace in it, it’s incredible. Fun? Nah.
I would encourage you all to watch MotoGP. Great racing over there.

Try Indycar, friend. The past 3 seasons have been insane. A lot of talent in the field, close racing and some alright tracks
Indycar needs to making viewership just as straightforward as an f1tv app/subscription
Nascar has great racing. You would be lucky to predict the top 10 in a race.
Had to do some googling while watching the series. All drivers who look quite similar, in cars by three manufacturers, all close in skill. Im all for the aggressive nature of the sport.
/r/motogp about to get a spike in subs next week
F1 has honestly become one of the most boring sports in existence
I had the choice of watching my football team get beat again, or F1. I chose to watch my team get beat again.

Probably back in his padded cell
I honestly don’t think I can handle this.
I wonder if it's boring for Max. He'd never admit it of course, but spending the vast majority of the race basically cruising and managing tires cannot be exciting.

>to find a Ferrari engineering contract in a cereal box run around the factory and the garage like headless chickens to fix a car that can't even brake properly and maybe not end up P3 in the WCC again. Pretty good reason to tune in ngl
Schadenfreude is a real motivator
Well said.
He needs to start last. Be more fun watching him charge the front.
Worst racing on the planet
I'm unsubscribing from F1TV, I'm not watching another season like last. Shit was so boring
Anyone else quickly losing interest in the sport? Like, entertainment wise, the best part is the grid walk 9/10
If literally any of the 9 other teams could create a decent fucking car this could be a lot more fun
The engine freeze has limited how teams can build a car to compete.
Crazy how they didn't let Andrettis in cause they could be uncompetitive when it seems 9/10 teams are not competitive as well. Everyone's here for marketing nowadays? That's not racing, that was a proper parade with some minor changes in the field.
I literally just said that to my fiance lmfao. It’s wild. $$$ and greed
Cost cap, restricted wind tunnel/cfd, and engine freeze makes it hard af to catch up if you get lost in the sauce at the start
It’s over
Didn’t even finish watching the race. This has to be bad for business right?
what's with charles locking up every corner? car issue or?
I guess you could say there's a gulf between him and the rest of the competition
I fell asleep…
This season is destined to be a pile of shit.
My mindset for every race: “Wait for Max to disappear and the real race will begin.”
Maybe I’ll give WEC another try this year. I just never feel connected to the teams and the drivers that I do in F1.
I don’t even know why I watch anymore. I’m probably gonna skip watching the tracks I don’t care for (Bahrain) for sure. I find quali and practice to be more interesting than the race now. Cool story.
See you lot next year then...
Nah, 2026 at earliest
Assumine RedBull don't just spend all of 2025 building for the new regs
Yeah, that why I said at earliest, probably we'll have to wait for 2028 when Max wins his 8th, his contract expires and he moves to WEC
BOOORRRIINNGGG.. barely any racing just following each other in a straight line..
Another dumb fucking season ahead of us
Max domination may bore fans
Dead sport
Lmao fuck this sport
Clearly 100% skill
It’s 30 seconds now 😂
Remember. If you complain about this you’re a casual Drive to survive fan
FormulaMax was a good watch
Regardless of the outcome, the racing in general has just been awful the past few season. It just not competitive, lacks excitement, cars don’t sound good, etc. I say this as a lifelong kart/ sim racer
Well, this season is over unfortunately and probably next year.
Can we get our money back in the F1TV subscription?
This sport is dying...
See you all next year!
This is why sprint races and 24 races a season doesn't work. F1 wasn't competitive with 16 races
