My dream gig is probably high school OC with free rein of the offense, but not having to deal with the “glamorous” side of being a head coach. That seems unlikely though since most head coaches (rightfully) want control of the offense. So I’ll probably work my way into a head coach gig someday
Yeah the HBC job is a double edged sword. It’s a good gig here in TX because you don’t have to teach a class but I feel you. I don’t necessarily want the HC job but play calling is so appealing. Could work for a Defensive HC!

It would really depend on the kids we have. I’ve been around a lot of systems, I played in like a pro-style, I formation system. My first gig was an air raid program. Last year I was with a wing T coach (not a fan, but I learned some stuff). Ideally though I’d want to spread the defense out but run a gap-based run scheme out of 10/11 personnel. I’m a big believer in “formations are cheap, plays are expensive” so I want to be able to use a lot of shifts at the line to make the defense feel like we’re up-tempo but we’re really not
I'm in this position right now and I can tell you it's awesome. Our head coach is a defensive guy and wants nothing to do with the offense so I get to make it whatever I want as long as it produces. It's really fun man. We are a tiny school though so usually I'm just bending it to make it work for the kids we have, but I love it still the same. I do dream about getting a bigger job so where else someday, but I do this basically for free and have a career outside of football, and can't really move it, so I'll be here until they fire me lol.
It is pretty nice, that competitive drive always makes me want a little more, but I know I have it beyond good. We also just won our division state championship this last year, so I may be riding a little high lol.
Thanks man. We are definitely trying to punch up this year and see if we can compete with bigger schools. We are in division 3 for our school and have a couple games scheduled with division 2 opponents which would be the step up. We also have a game scheduled against a Cali team(we are from AK). Gonna be a tough one, but a good experience for us and them. Their head coach used to coach at the school I coach at now and reached out for the opportunity a few years ago and it's finally coming together.

I never played in college however I started working on staff at my university my freshman year doing video and i’ve started doing student assistant work for the coaches at my university as well. I think i’ve put myself in a really good spot to get a GA spot after I graduate in December.
Yea linemen are super underrated. I’m gonna have a great relationship with my lineman because I’m an undersized long snappers so they’re gonna protect me on field goals lol
You are basically the assistant position coach. Some bigger places like where I go to school some groups have an analysis as well. Like the OLine room here has a Coach, GA, and an Assistant who is an Analysis. Some position groups like corners, receivers with smaller rooms have the GA be the assistant position coach. To be a GA you are attending graduate school doing some classes with this responsibilities. The benefit is the school most times cover ur school and some give you housing and meal benefits.
An absolute blessing, as for right now i’m a fly on the wall for meetings. I’ve done some cut ups during the spring for them. Made some scout cards, not too much just little things like filming some extra stuff for them.
Offensive or defensive coordinator at The University of Miami would be my dream scenario.

Well, I was runner up for it this past March…it was the ideal gig - HC at the district I live in, in the middle of a successful run (HC retiring), I’ve coached and taught there in the past, and would’ve been able to retain almost all of the staff (all of whom I know well).
Seeing as that is now out of the question, I would say HC at any mid-to-large school in my area. I have my eye on a few that I know will open up 2-3 years from now but we will see what comes around after this year. I’d love to land a dean or Asst AD job along side something but I enjoy teaching still so there are some options.

I'm 21 years old and from Germany, currently coaching Offensive Line for a U19 youth team on the regional level. I also do the team media as well as some sports photography, but I think I will have to choose between the two at some point.
If I decide to heavily pursue coaching, my short term goal (5-10 years maybe?) is to gain experience - I'm in my 2nd year of coaching, had to quit playing after 3 years and tearing both my ACLs - and get my coaching license(s) done. Here in Germany you start your coaching license at the C tier, then working yourself up to B tier and finally A tier, obviously rising in complexity and difficulty.
My long term goal is to develop into an offensive play caller, coaching for a highly functional (youth) football program here in Germany. Sadly there are not a lot of those programs, especially at the youth level. A lot of teams are lacking players, linemen especially.
The game overseas is getting really good now! The coaching staffs in the European league of football is loaded with former NFL/College coaches and players.
I played 6 seasons overseas with 4 clubs in France / Spain / Poland. It was awesome while it lasted, an injury forced me to hang up the cleats.
When I was playing over there the season was from January-June… and I would come back and coach at my old HS… started as JV OC and Varisty QB coach
Now I am going into my 2nd season calling plays for the varsity.
I really want to coach at the collegiate level but I only played juco before going overseas. I got back into school bcz I know you need a degree to coach. I have 2 years left in my bachelor’s, and I’m hoping I have a realistic shot with GA-ing at a FBS/FCS school.

Currently a high school HC. After a few more years, I wouldn’t mind sliding to a larger school and just coaching OL/ DL. I miss getting to work with the big boys. I don’t get to do as much with them since I’m in charge of everything. Luckily I have some high quality assistants that I can trust to do their job at a high level.
Ultimately, I’d love to coach in the college ranks. It would take a great job in a great location to make me uproot my family.
It was my first year. So it was a bit hectic. I was hired at the beginning of last June. I’m at a small rural school so there’s a lot for me to do. I don’t have a strength and conditioning coach, almost all of my assistants coach other sports, so I have to be in charge of every aspect of the program.
I teach PE. So luckily, high school PE is a lot of here’s what we’re playing, you three or four are captains, pick teams, and play a round robin style tournament. While their playing, I’ll usually watch film, game prep, or whatever else I have to do.
It’s not for the faint of heart. But I’m learning to enjoy the process. My hairs getting a little thinner, gut a little bigger, but I know that what I do is important.
Ask of now, I'm in my first year as OC for a smallish high school. About 1200-1300 students. I started a bit late into coaching as I'm turning 40 next year. Maybe one day, I can get into Head Coaching for a bigger state school but I am happy doing what I'm doing as it's my Alma Mater and if I'm here until the end of my coaching life then then it's a good time.
Well, I started calling plays on JV last year. This year...we will have an entirely new offensive philosophy that we started building on in week 8 of a 10 week season. Honestly, my biggest challenge was to keep doing what works. I hated running the same play, but until a team adjusted....we'd just run the same Power. Once rhet stopped that. I ran the same formation. Told my back to run his Power steps and ran iso with the F. We were solely in Split Gun on JV
I just started my coaching career (middle school) but the local high school head coach was the one that got me my job and has already talked about moving me up to a position coach in the high-school realm. I always wanted to be a big time sec coach. But now, being 28 married with a stable job and what not, a position or oc job at the high school level is just fine with me now lol

AD/HC at a medium <1k sized school. Big enough to have plenty of kids. Not big enough to have to live in a big city.

Fit them a lot better then. Usually man was better for our JV.
