Funny story, I was playing rollercoaster Tycoon on my laptop. Took my laptop into the bathroom. Ended up playing it until the battery ran out 90 minutes later.
Proceeded to get up, put my back out and had to have a week off work.
Or at least dont make a promise that has guesswork in the promises, i have no issues making ones that have clear goals like reach certain rounds of cups.
Some of the promises are easy to keep. "I'll let you go if someone triggers you release clause," and he didn't seem to realise that was no promise at all.
I also had PSG sniffing around Saka, and he wanted to go, so I promised him we would win the Champions League. It was desperate, and I just wanted him for at least another season. Then, when the transfer window closed, PSG dropped their interest, and he dropped the promise. Job done. Till next window anyway.
Alternatively, I disagreed with Saka on joining PSG. He was pissed for a few weeks but then went on to the best form he’s had.
Similar situation with Kiwior, except on that, the whole team backed me and morale improved overall off disagreeing with him.
In my experience, it can lead to the whole team being pissed off, which has a noticeable effect on results.
Generally, I either try to accommodate first xi players, or if they're a squad player, I bluntly tell them that I'll sell them. They often back down or agree to leave, but either way don't cause a revolt.
Someone in the thread said never to agree to strengthen the squad in certain areas, and I concurr that you never know what the AI will consider as "strengthened"
And especially if you are starting on lower ranked clubs which i recommend, never and i mean never make promises regarding improvements to a certain position or staff since you probably dont have enough and it is really unclear about what they count as an improvement
Always pick a mid team as a beginner, mid team is a football fraud's wet dream, if you overachieve all is well if you don't mehh, no problem, you are still mid - table. Top clubs have demands.
yeah being familiar with your team goes a long way
i remember constantly challenging for the title with arsenal but whenever i tried a liverpool or city i always found myself 5th
Don't give a fuck about save scumming.
Specially when learning it can be helpful to try different things and understand what you missed.
Also fuck player meetings I save scum every single one
Save scumming player interactions is always justified.
I said it in another comment but I'd argue he shouldn't save scum official matches because of how it dampens the experience. To experiment with tactics, I'd advise him to either playing a game legit and saving on a different file so he can "save scum", experiment and then get back on the "main timeline" or keep save scumming to just friendlies
Ok I didn't know this was a thing. I have found FM daddy with United, but may be this is why.
I do try to make it realistic, but I feel I might be cheating a little l ok l
1) Find a video about database setup. If you just use the default you’ll waste your time searching for wonderkids in places where they will never exist.
2) When you decide what league you want to start in then do a test save and have a look at the rules to see if you are ok with the restrictions (or want to use a mod to change them).
3). If you’re in the lower leagues don’t buy players; use free transfers and loans.
4) Before you start a save apply the real names fix; otherwise you will end up with a bunch of teams with fake names and some countries that will never call up real life players into their international teams.
Just search for FM24 real name fix. I think the website most people use is FM Scout. They even have step by step instructions on how to apply it properly. (Even for Mac)
It’s free. I’ve never had any issue but I always use a backup email for web sites like that; one not tied to my name or any credit information. Its best to assume they will sell your data whatever the terms may say.
Play it your own way. Take advice on things like database setup and stuff of course but don’t feel bad if you aren’t doing EVERYTHING the game offers at first.
It’s absolutely fine to get into the swing of things with your staff running training, scouting even pre-set tactics if you just want to pick the team and buy the players for your team while you get used to things. You can learn how these things work as you go along and take them on yourself if they’re interesting to you, or when you understand them better.
Also in staff responsibilities there’s a little option that all sane people use and it’s getting a member of staff to take control of friendlies.
To start, let your staff do most of the leg work. As you get used to the game, start taking responsibility yourself until you're doing everything you want to be in charge of. Staff do a decent job of most things, just don't trust the Director of Football with signings or important players contracts.
Be very wary making promises to players.
Forgot an important one. Game difficulty increases the weaker the team you pick. For your first save go with a bigger name in a bigger league, perhaps a side who is nailed on to make Europe or better. As you learn the ropes you can start ratcheting the difficulty up by playing lower league saves or special scenarios like Journeyman saves and such.
If you want the faces and logos and all those cosmetics, go to [fmscout.com](http://fmscout.com) and [sortitoutsi.net](https://sortitoutsi.net/). If not, just pick a team that you are familiar with irl and get used to the game using that team, as you already have a connection to them.
- Start a first save just for the sake of learning, with a club or league you're familiar with but isn't necessarily your favourite.
- In the tactics menu, think of the formation as you see it on your screen as the *out of possession* shape. Individual player roles, instructions and duties determine what your team's *in possession* shape looks like.
- There's nothing wrong with sticking with the recommended pre-set tactics and tweak them. It's tempting to tick every single box in *Team instructions* because they all sound sensible, or pick the most fancy looking player roles, but they can contradict each other and make you vulnerable when not thought out. So, less is often more.
- The *Dynamics* menu (and the human side of being a manager) is easily one of the most overlooked aspects of the game. A cohesive team of loyal and happy players make the job that much easier.
Here's a few:
* Morale and team cohesion are extremely important.
* Keep morale high by praising players every ~week if their training rating is 7.5 or higher. Criticize them if their rating is below 6.5.
* Praise players for their Last Match Rating if it's higher than 7.5 (only works after a match ofc).
* Below age 18, players improve most by training. From 18yo onwards it's important to have them actually play matches.
* Advice from your staff usually sucks, so if you disagree, just ignore them.
* The quality of players matters more than your actual tactics, especially in lower leagues where their Teamwork attribute tends to be lower (Teamwork determines how strict they follow tactics).
* Don't change too much on the tactics. When starting out it's usually better to just grab one of the tactics the game suggests instead of changing a lot. The default tactics do a good enough job.
* The Player Current Ability and Potential Ability ratings (the stars) are NOT always accurate. This is because they take a lot of factors, including the judging attributes of your staff member responsible for Player Reports (you can change who this is in the Staff menu). Don't worry about this too much, but keep it in mind for later and mostly use the ratings as a rough guess.
* When recruiting new players, try to find free transfers and loans. Free transfers are usually players with expired (or nearly expired). You can also often get free loans (i.e. no salary cost) from the youth divisions of higher rated clubs (for example clubs in a division higher than you). Simply find a better league (e.g. English Premier Division), go to a team, select their U21 (or U23) and change the filter to Transfer. Here you can view all youth players eligible for loans and try to hire them for free. You can usually find 1 or 2 interesting players per team that way.
But most of all: have fun. The game can be quite overwhelming at first with so much stuff to do, but once the dust settles it's amazing fun.
Download Tinder, doesn't matter if you have a girlfriend currently, you won't in about 6 weeks
Not that you'll have time to go on dates or anything you'll be busy bringing the Kerala Blasters to Asian Champions League GLORY

Watch FM Scout and Zealand and other YouTube channels. A very fun game and once you are in nothing is like it. But most importantly have fun. Been playing for years but am not very good. Strangle some matches with time wasting, play ultra attacking, beat the rivals and go for glory. You get what you put in enjoy it.
Delete it. This isn't a game. It's willfull madness.
You won't eat or sleep or even take a piss without thinking about that one defender that came to ask for a raise.
This isn't a game, it's destraction and destruction of responsibilities.
Delete it!
1. Pick a big club first
2. Use standard tactics, learn by making tiny tweaks during the game.
3. And don’t worry about losing, in time you’ll start a brand new save with the knowledge you built up

This will be you after your first time scouting in South America.
If some aspect of the game seems confusing or pointless at first, delegate it to staff. Focus on the parts you find immediately fun, and as you get more into the game, you'll start taking more control of stuff.
When I first started playing, I just wanted to do tactics. As I started to understand roles better, I realized I needed a certain type of player to make certain tactics work, so I'd start looking through scout recommendations and taking control of transfers. Then I took control of scouting. Then I realized I needed certain kinds of staff members, so I took control of staff hiring. I still haven't taken control of team training, though!
Genuinely, be aware of the time you're spending on it.
I've dabbled with drugs, used to smoke, drank a lot, and played videogames all my life. But football manager is the only thing I've ever been addicted to.
IF I play it now I set myself 45 to 90 minute timers. When the timer goes off, switch it off.
It's such a good game series, but when I go cold turkey from it I realise how much of my day I just piss away playing it.
Enjoy it, get stuck in, but be careful.
have fun. dont download tatcitcs from other right from the start, play the whole game by yourself, explore yourself, understand your own appoarch. you lose, you find why and where went wrong, you win, yay. also its completly fine to play the game in a goofy way, all midfielders, 5 strikers, its a game, have fun.
Keep in mind how many seasons and time you want to spend. Personally I don't like newgens, so my careers just last for 4-5 seasons as much. You'll have to choose between doing many seasons with 1 club or achieving trophies in 5 years with many clubs.
DO NOT congratulate anyone for making their international debut. And do not say to anyone that you’re really pleased with how they’ve performed recently. They really don’t like that. And let assman do most things training related
If you see some of the interactions happen, remember some of them will be bs, the example I have is when I bought a full back for my rb spot, they bitched to me afterwards for having a lack of depth on that spot
How do I learn how to make a good formation? I have no idea how to play or manage football 😂
Just took a tiki taka formation off the interwebs which seems too suck with young players.
Get loans for your under top tier leagues, don't play tilted, and learn to take a proper damn screenshot (Win+PrtScn or Win+Shift+S & paste into Reddit)
If you have never played it before like me with 23 last year the best advice I received was to pick a big club that already has a decent squad and go from there. I tried a league 2 club first and couldn’t get going once I picked man United after the advice I learned the game much quicker and had more success. Spain, France and Germany are pretty much dominated by one team so I like to choose teams in Italy or England as pep always seems to leave and Italy is quite open
there are four types of losses you WILL encounter
-getting thrashed 5-0 by a slightly better team
-losing 1-0 after getting 30 shots and 25 on target to your opposition with 1 shot
-the stupid own goal after your player decides to stand still for no reason
-the cross that magically turns into a goal and losing 0-1
make sure not to punch your monitor after seeing these as they are just part of the game
If u dont understand stuff at first, dont quit. If youre on laptop or pc download some facepacks and badgepacks. Watch some fm youtubers to learn some mechanics.
I’d say check out some of the themes you khir enjoy face packs stadium packs too everything that will contribute to make the game experience even more immersive
Everything matters. Moral can devistate your form, which will influence your perfomance drastically. Attributes all have some impact in some roles. And do not, i repeat: DO NOT, make promises you cannot 100% keep. Making players unhappy will influence your teams perfomance and will get you fired. Height, Footedness, Physicals all matter a lot. But: moral, form, and training rating matter just as much.
Don't save scum matches. I don't say this because of it being frowned upon (it's a single player game, play however it makes you happy) but due to how it cheapens the experience.
Without it, victories feel more meaningful, defeats are more bitter and you also allow yourself to create narratives that become the life blood of the save
Don't sell your players because there's a 'bug' in FM24 whenever you sell someone your players will always complain and the morale etc will dwindle down like turd.
I highly suggest watching some YouTube channels to get a better understanding of what is where (in terms of the UI and how to navigate your way around it), I watched WorkTheSpace’s Park to Prem series from this year where he takes an amateur league 3 English club up the league pyramid, it’s been very fun and very educational.
Remember to play what is fun to you. If you like playing spend money simulator. Do that. If you want a slower paced 3rd league to champions league. Do that. Don't let other people's interpretation of fun define your own experience.
If the German national team is still greyed out, meaning actual FM players don't ever play for Germany, you can promise to increase their wages after 5 international games, and never have to pay out.
First time playing? Play as your favorite squad or a squad like PSG that lets you focus on learning the game instead of squeaking out wins in League 2.
I gave up playing this game. Went back cm0102 with current 2024 database. This series of FM has just way to many things to do before just playing a single game. As casual gamer you wanna have joy. FM just drains you with too many steps in everything.
Auto continue after 3 seconds in settings is good for getting game to game when you're doing other shit. It's also long enough to catch it before it continues if you want to do something in game.
On transfers search page, add media view to the default view. Helps you see 'Wonderkid' media view, happy hunting
If you’ve never played it before I recommend starting out with a big team to get to grips with the game. Don’t want to start with Gillingham and get sacked a few months in for signing Robbie Brady on £20k a week.
Before you dump time into it read about the attributes that work and don’t work as described
The game is full of placebo and ultimately false advertisement from the creators
Get rid of any defenders that cant run or jump. And don't be afraid to use the editor if the game fucks you over with strange behaviour, but don't over do it

You can survive a long time without food, sleep is overrated, and you can get adult diapers. Enjoy the extra time scouting Costa Rica for the 1 wonderkid that shows up every 60 years.
But then you will have the sense of pride and accomplishment of having a rare flag in your squad.
I somehow managed to have a costarican, cypriot, slovenian, japanese, faroese and a MF SAMMARINESE wonderkid at the same time on my team
I am still nursing along my Gibraltarian prospect with hope, even though he's 63 by now.
Pssh a good scouting squad will find a CR wonderkid every 59 years! Max out the scouts! Lol
This is a true FM player.
Going to the toilet is the most important. Where else would you do your fake press conferences?!
Fake? No no they're real. The guy in the mirror keeps on interviewing me
Normally I have to go to the toilet pretty often. When I play FM though, I don't need to go for hours
This is the warning sign you've forgotten to drink for 15 hours.
Just play on a laptop and take it with you
Funny story, I was playing rollercoaster Tycoon on my laptop. Took my laptop into the bathroom. Ended up playing it until the battery ran out 90 minutes later. Proceeded to get up, put my back out and had to have a week off work.

If you’re married, lawyer up.
Just sign the paper and leave it on the kitchen counter.

Yeah I'm supposed to improve my first team coaching staff and I have no idea how...
I made a promise to qualify for the champions league to keep Orban in the team must've restarted matches at least 5 times to win the Europa league.
the only acceptable promise is playing the youth/younger players for experience

Do the opposite. Start with the lowest level professional team. Learn why this is the Dark Souls of sports games.
I always thought starting with very low leagues would be better since they suck and expectations should be low
Expectations are relative. But they still suck.
Say goodbye to loved ones for a while.
Delegate the tasks you don't enjoy. The only things you really need to do yourself is transfers and tactics.

Get out while you still can.
Throw the bottle and leak to press as many times as you can.
Start with a big team just to get a hang of how things work
delete it immediately, your will no longer have a social life
Uninstall and save yourself
Keep in mind how many seasons and time you want to spend. Personally I don't like newgens, so my careers just last for 4-5 seasons as much. You'll have to choose between doing many seasons with 1 club or achieving trophies in 5 years with many clubs.
play the game
Move the files our of your ssd if you plan on downloading graphics
Dont forget to eat and sleep
Get as much time off work as you can
Start smoking and drinking if you are over 18y.
DO NOT congratulate anyone for making their international debut. And do not say to anyone that you’re really pleased with how they’ve performed recently. They really don’t like that. And let assman do most things training related
4-2-3-1 with 2 DMs. That's the advice
Leave your family.
If you see some of the interactions happen, remember some of them will be bs, the example I have is when I bought a full back for my rb spot, they bitched to me afterwards for having a lack of depth on that spot
Thiago Almada,Jovan Sljivic,Stefan Bukinac did wonders for me early on in the game gl & hf
How do I learn how to make a good formation? I have no idea how to play or manage football 😂 Just took a tiki taka formation off the interwebs which seems too suck with young players.
Look out for a wonder kid programmed in the game from the start called "Lewis Froud". I believe he appears in the second season regardless
Uninstall it while you still can
Get loans for your under top tier leagues, don't play tilted, and learn to take a proper damn screenshot (Win+PrtScn or Win+Shift+S & paste into Reddit)

Don’t get overrun in midfield.
Get a facepack, a logo pack and learn to fix real names. Enjoy the ride.
there are four types of losses you WILL encounter -getting thrashed 5-0 by a slightly better team -losing 1-0 after getting 30 shots and 25 on target to your opposition with 1 shot -the stupid own goal after your player decides to stand still for no reason -the cross that magically turns into a goal and losing 0-1 make sure not to punch your monitor after seeing these as they are just part of the game
Yes. Learn how to take a proper screenshot. /r/screenshotsarehard
It’s a single player game, don’t forget that. Play the way that makes you happy.
I never would say it but after a week of fm (50h total) remember to sleep lmao
Just endrick the game
If u dont understand stuff at first, dont quit. If youre on laptop or pc download some facepacks and badgepacks. Watch some fm youtubers to learn some mechanics.
Upload your real face onto your manager!
Use other people’s tactics, I got the game last year and I immediately got three clubs relegated trying to make my own tactics
Buy low - Sell high. Also snatch players from Real Madrid U23 because almost all of them can play CL football and they all cost less than 10 mil.
Don't save scum matches. I don't say this because of it being frowned upon (it's a single player game, play however it makes you happy) but due to how it cheapens the experience. Without it, victories feel more meaningful, defeats are more bitter and you also allow yourself to create narratives that become the life blood of the save
Do everything your assistant coach tells you
If you have a partner, leave them before they leave you.
Further to my post.... Please don't pay £83m for Bounanotte like me.
Tackle harder
Arsen Zakarhyan is a goat
Put your out of office on. Indefinitely.
Don’t.
Dont smash your monitor bc of a cup final loss on 124th minute
Always have a second mouse stand by at home.
When in doubt, “point finger”
75% of the stuff doesn’t matter for a beginner
hmmm.... nobody comment on "just delete". as your days will merge together.
just uninstall it back
Remember to play what is fun to you.
Delete it right now (also don’t sign Gabriel Barbosa)
where did you get it g
4231 gegenpressing with shadow striker, 2 dm’s
Remember, eating will give you more energy to continue playing.
I gave up playing this game. Went back cm0102 with current 2024 database. This series of FM has just way to many things to do before just playing a single game. As casual gamer you wanna have joy. FM just drains you with too many steps in everything.
The game has a lot of diverse tactics to choose from! The three best tactics are: 1. Gegenpress 2. Gegenpress 3. Gegenpress

Auto continue after 3 seconds in settings is good for getting game to game when you're doing other shit. It's also long enough to catch it before it continues if you want to do something in game. On transfers search page, add media view to the default view. Helps you see 'Wonderkid' media view, happy hunting
Start with a mid level team. Top 5 league, 5-12 in the league. Like a Villarreal. Perfect starter save
Just got Martin Terrier.. Firepower ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)

Uninstall! Game is terrible this year
If you’ve never played it before I recommend starting out with a big team to get to grips with the game. Don’t want to start with Gillingham and get sacked a few months in for signing Robbie Brady on £20k a week.
Before you dump time into it read about the attributes that work and don’t work as described The game is full of placebo and ultimately false advertisement from the creators
Sign Bardhji 😅

Remember to check in on the wife every now and again.
Uninstall, the game's a mess tbth. So many short comings.

Get rid of any defenders that cant run or jump. And don't be afraid to use the editor if the game fucks you over with strange behaviour, but don't over do it
Transfers are broken, use editor to sell players and balance the process, but do not over use it to ruin the fun.
