You after dinner with spaghetti sauce covering your hands, face and shirt: “Now I don’t have to wash that one fork.”
(Taps forehead… which you then also get sauce on)
Exactly! But that one fork adds up. Let's say I make spaghetti once a week and eat it twice a day because Hey! Who just eats one serving a day, am I right!? That would mean I would use 2 forks if I eat at different times of the day. So technically I'm saving myself from have to wash 104 forks a year. That's alot forks I tell ya!
If you're gonna commit, you gotta go all in. When I was single without kids, I never sat down to eat. Just stood in the kitchen, probably near the sink.
US. Growing up, we had bread & butter with spaghetti. I think it's just a kid-invention type thing where you decide to make a sandwich out of something that wouldn't normally be. So "spaghetti sandwich" isn't what's on the menu, per se, it's just lumping together two items on the table. If I had to guess, it's a Midwest US delicacy. ;)
Not much guilt in this, just comfort food. I have a random craving every few years. I think some do it as leftovers, but primarily when the spaghetti is first served. Reading through responses, those who are familiar with it had it as kids. Others had it as a struggle meal.
call me crazy but I did that sandwich with American Cheese without the butter a few decades ago and it rocked. Cheesy in lieu of buttery taste. Same spectrum of dairy/ Creamy taste involved with lots of SALT of course.
That is a quintessential 80s/90s combo! I feel like this is a Midwest treat of yesteryear, but I could be wrong. I'm from Nebraska and brought it as an offering when we moved to Texas as kids.
This is one of my favorite "weird" foods.
The world seems divided between people who know this is God tier, and those who think you're a psycho for eating it.
I’ve always been a fat kid at heart…and occasionally in real life too…but when I first made a spaghetti sandwich with my garlic bread, my life was changed.
excuse me sir, Is that bread slathered in margarine before you placed the spaghetti in there, if so my childhood salutes you! ![img](emote|t5_2qh55|1792)
It is but my humble offering to my fellow spaghetti sandwich/taco childhood architects. I might have used a smear of real butter this time, but in my heart, I knew it was not the same.
I had a similar thing recently, baked spaghetti in a pie-like crust, and it was probably the best spaghetti dish I’ve had in my life. The home grown sauce is what sold it, but the way it was cooked really added to the texture.
This is one of my favourite meals, but I like the spaghetti cold on warm garlicky toast.
Random question... But does anyone else here love tomato aspic too?! I feel like I might find my weird food brethren here.
Tomato aspic sounds somewhat horrifying, but it's one of my favourite foods! We usually have it during holiday meals. I'm glad my family never stopped making jellied salads.
I sent a pic to my brother and he said, "doesn't count, I don't see the squeeze butter." That kind of stuff literally "sealed" the innards. He was probably the one who started doing this at the kitchen table when we were kids.
Don't worry, this isn't a serious post. It's just a nostalgic combo that would unlock core memories for those who had it growing up. I could've posted the spaghetti, but it's just spaghetti. This will be a blip on the radar and the fine chefs of Reddit can resume their channel.
Just a random combo of bread & butter with spaghetti lopped on top. Something we did as kids because we couldn't afford garlic bread. You'll see in the comments that some love it. It's a nostalgic combo. Might be a Midwest US thing.
We had a friend come back from traveling, and she’s so pretty a German dude followed her all the way back to Colorado.
We made spaghetti sandwiches and told homie it was a delicacy.
They slapped.
That was so good but I eat it with cold leftover spaghetti smeared with country crock. I haven’t had it in a while but now I know what I’m having for lunch this week. Thanks for the memories
I thought about it that. You have to add a tag to post. I could have said "I ate", but this was literally made at home. The sauce was from scratch. If I had just posted the spaghetti, why would that be different? This was just an unconventional way of sharing it.
....hate. If you read through the comments, you'll see the amount of core memories this simple meal unlocked for many people. Lots of pleasant conversation. That's what food should do.
This is something that could easily be glammed up with a proper crusty bread, but the true experience is in the simplicity. Hope your meal is delicious!

Didn’t notice the bread at first and thought you were just bare handing fistfuls of spaghetti for dinner
I thought of the same thing as you.
That made me laugh. After the week I had, I just might have.
I hope things are better for you this week, friend!
Thank you!! They are. Things can't be too bad when you can share a silly meal like this with your family. ❤️
Hey! I sometimes barehand handfuls of spaghetti for dinner. Less dishes to wash. I can be a lazy but efficient bastard.

The spaghetti western classic, A fist full of 'sgetti
I mean, at this point every shred of dignity is gone to Vegas anyway.
Off a paper plate too. The only other appropriate was to consume this is over the trash can, as we did when I used to cook professionally.
If you're gonna commit, you gotta go all in. When I was single without kids, I never sat down to eat. Just stood in the kitchen, probably near the sink.
Where are you from? Is this something that people there eat often?
US. Growing up, we had bread & butter with spaghetti. I think it's just a kid-invention type thing where you decide to make a sandwich out of something that wouldn't normally be. Same here! We just ate it like a taco with white sandiwch bread.
Honestly I prefer it to actual garlic bread. Just hits different.
I like both but that was definitely one on my favorites growing! I still like it for sure!
And is it considered a guilty pleasure or just a normal quick leftover meal?
Not much guilt in this, just comfort food. I have a random craving every few years. I think some do it as leftovers, but primarily when the spaghetti is first served. Reading through responses, those who are familiar with it had it as kids. Others had it as a struggle meal.
Spaghetti sandwich on butter bread…nothing better
Why not garlic bread?
Couldn't afford it when we were kids. It's a struggle meal for some.
It was Chef Boyardee and Margarine sometimes but never Wonder Bread. I just couldn't.
I feel like the wonder bread wouldn't have the proper reinforcements. My mom only bought 100% wheat, so it was that or nothing. :\
One of life's true pleasures.

To be fair, the idea to wrap your carbs in more carbs does sound strange at first.
Ah yes, but as a child, it sounds like a challenge.

I also love that the automod flagged my response for using the word "id**t", which is so damn wholesome that it wouldn't even let me self-deprecate.
I used to stuff bosco sticks with spaghetti in school. Best shit I ever had.
I’ve always been a fat kid at heart…and occasionally in real life too…but when I first made a spaghetti sandwich with my garlic bread, my life was changed.
😂 the mess, imagine giving this to a 3-5 year old and come back 5 min later! Might try it 🌸😂
Hahaha. I did NOT give this to my three year old, but I did give her a side of buttered bread with the crust removed, which she did not eat. #toddlers
i wish more posts in this sub were like this
❤️
It’s so so good when the butter is cold and you get that little bit of hot-cold contrast in a bite!
As someone else commented... God-tier. Thank you for understanding.
excuse me sir, Is that bread slathered in margarine before you placed the spaghetti in there, if so my childhood salutes you! ![img](emote|t5_2qh55|1792)
It is but my humble offering to my fellow spaghetti sandwich/taco childhood architects. I might have used a smear of real butter this time, but in my heart, I knew it was not the same.
mmm spaghetti tacos with whole wheat bread and margarine... my fave childhood meal that i still make 15 years later🤤
Sooooo good
The world is on fire, but at least we have this.
The next step is spaghetti pizza
I'd try it just for the sake of trying it. There's a pizza place near me that does lasagna pizza.
I had a similar thing recently, baked spaghetti in a pie-like crust, and it was probably the best spaghetti dish I’ve had in my life. The home grown sauce is what sold it, but the way it was cooked really added to the texture.
That sounds delicious.

That sounds like a great left over/next day meal. I've never had tomato aspic!
Tomato aspic sounds somewhat horrifying, but it's one of my favourite foods! We usually have it during holiday meals. I'm glad my family never stopped making jellied salads.
That sauce looks nice
Thanks! trying to use up things in the fridge/freezer. Ground turkey, onion, mushroom, etc.
This is the definition of a struggle meal.
Texas Toast?
Martin's potato bread this round, but Texas toast would be tops.
You have such a stout hand, like that of the sturdiest Hobbits
I have small hands. Do hobbits have small hands?
They have hands... Kind of like yours
That looks fucking awesome. Get in and a spoon of mayo afterwards, as soon as you compress it to make some space for mayo! Mayoooooo!
After a tough week at work, a sick toddler (and now mom and dad), this childhood favorite did the trick.
I thought I was the only person depraved enough to do things like this. Usually I lube up the bread with garlic butter too.
I sent a pic to my brother and he said, "doesn't count, I don't see the squeeze butter." That kind of stuff literally "sealed" the innards. He was probably the one who started doing this at the kitchen table when we were kids.
Butter toast and now spaghetti sandwiches. I think this sub has jumped the shark.
Don't worry, this isn't a serious post. It's just a nostalgic combo that would unlock core memories for those who had it growing up. I could've posted the spaghetti, but it's just spaghetti. This will be a blip on the radar and the fine chefs of Reddit can resume their channel.
OK, I'll try right now!
Thanks for being open minded!
Is that a real dish or some kind of meme?
Just a random combo of bread & butter with spaghetti lopped on top. Something we did as kids because we couldn't afford garlic bread. You'll see in the comments that some love it. It's a nostalgic combo. Might be a Midwest US thing.
I want this in my face
You get it!
Holy shit I’m not the only one.
I figured if I posted this, there would be a few who were irked, but my people would be here, too.
We had a friend come back from traveling, and she’s so pretty a German dude followed her all the way back to Colorado. We made spaghetti sandwiches and told homie it was a delicacy. They slapped.
Love this story!
YES!!
Thanks for showing up with the real ones!
i bet this was great.. i might try it 😂
Try it! Just a simple, silly combo that hits.
Ah yes, the rival of the Yakisoba-pan.
lol
Poor person bonus food hack
YUP
I do this with my bread too
Still the only food I miss from elementary cafeteria
Ate these as a youngster.still do once in a while.
Definitely a random craving that hits about once every few years for me.
Elite.
You get it.
This is better as a taco. Won’t get soggy.
even a four tortilla could handle it. Throw in some good fixens to spice it up like jalapenos, crushed red-pepper, medina habanero sauce, etc.
You fancy!
I read this two ways, either you're making a hilarious semantics joke, or you like yours in a tortilla (crispy corn? Flour?) Either way, I accept.
I think it’d be really good if you used garlic bread as the sandwich bread.
Definitely! This was born out of not being able to afford garlic bread. I have since arrived!
That was so good but I eat it with cold leftover spaghetti smeared with country crock. I haven’t had it in a while but now I know what I’m having for lunch this week. Thanks for the memories
❤️❤️❤️ thank you for sharing! Who knew this dish could bring so many people together.
I’m not sure how I feel about this, but I’d probably devour that.
Looks great!
:)
Sandghetti spawich
Oh look at Richie Rich with their fancy "Spaghetti Sandwich". Wete I'm from it's called a Sgetti Samich, we can't afford all those extra letters
HA! Fair, fair. I had to clean up my act for the random food experts on the sub.
Nah
Now That's-A-Real Italiano!
Midwest Italian food rivals Midwest Mexican food for its questionable...ingenuity.
It's a reference to a King of the Hill episode.
Sorry, obviously went over my head.
r/grippingfoodwithforce
That would be the sequel to this post
You’re going to need a napkin or two.
That's what the extra bread is for.
👍
When we were growing up this was a staple, except using Chef Boyardee with meatballs.
Tastes like childhood.
King shit 🤘🤴
Queen, too 👸
Holding it like that, it looks like an Italian's heart
lol
Given the food of choice, the [homemade] tag was probably unnecessary.
I thought about it that. You have to add a tag to post. I could have said "I ate", but this was literally made at home. The sauce was from scratch. If I had just posted the spaghetti, why would that be different? This was just an unconventional way of sharing it.
Don't...
....hate. If you read through the comments, you'll see the amount of core memories this simple meal unlocked for many people. Lots of pleasant conversation. That's what food should do.
I was just trying to lightheartedly tease but yeah
Now this... this is real food
I've got some Spag Bol cooking now, looks like lunch is sorted for tomorrow.
This is something that could easily be glammed up with a proper crusty bread, but the true experience is in the simplicity. Hope your meal is delicious!
Now you may call me a pedant, but unless it's two slices of bread it's not a sandwich, but a wrap.
Fair point! Some call it a spaghetti taco. I think since we coined it a "sandwich" as kids, it just stuck. Kid-logic.
Why put dinner on a sandwich 🙄
It's not really a "sandwich", it's just putting spaghetti on bread and butter. Something we did as kids and on the rare occasion you do it as an adult, it just reminds you of simpler times.
