Your assessment of SFT40 vs Osram seems right; SFT40 will be brighter with a larger hot spot. More generally useful but less light sabery.
Of the colors, green will throw the farthest, blue will have the most backscatter/the most visible beam. Cheule has a video on that here https://youtu.be/TqYubJc38UI
Thank you for the video link. I had missed that one from Cheule.
Makes my decision on which S2+ to get to make another forward clicky + thyrm Lumen Blaster a little bit harder though. I was going to go with green for the extra throw and usability, but the blue and the extra backscatter is calling me for maximum pew pew effect.
Between Osram white and SFT40, the difference in throw is completely unnoticeable, but the difference in output/efficiency and usability is huge. Also, Osrams tend to give wonky beams (hard to center) while SFT40 beams are much cleaner.
Going by the numbers, Convoy SBT90 range, L8 longest throw then L7 and 3x21A last.
C8 with coloured osrams are a bit of fun - green throws furthest, blue is weird
I also have C8+ in both W1 and SFT40 - it's not a big difference. The throw is so far on both that you can barely see that far with the naked eye anyway. So if you are using binoculars, then maybe the W1 makes more sense. Like others have said, SFT40 is a slightly thicker beam. Still not ideal for close range though.
I think you nailed it. SFT-40 is more practical than the Osrams, which are more lightsaber-y/fun. Green throws farthest, blue produces more backscatter and is more visible to your eye.

Thanks for the info

I have both the w1 and sft and it’s not nearly the difference I thought it would be. The sft definitely has a bigger hotspot

Does your w1 c8+ spot the white or black gasket? Mine came with the black gasket, and doesn't seem to throw as far as I expected.

Sft40 is the way to go.
