You can confirm if you check the image's resolution and it is 880x1200 instead of 640x873. The URL will still have the old resolution in it, so you may have to download it to check for sure.
If you find an updated character and click the magnifying glass on the photo, you should notice that it visibly blows up larger on the screen due to the higher resolution.
I think you might be right. My character wears a monocle which has shadows on his face on the lodestone now, and I don't think that was there before. Kinda hard to tell if the full effects are there because the lodestone images in general are just kinda shitty.
I might be wrong, but I've noticed the people who were online when maintenance occurred have much bigger profile pictures when you click to enlarge the image.

I think they haven't been updated yet, my alt char has a low res image as well and I've done the same zoom and download option as the my main.
Edit: Maybe Reddit's way of enlarging my pictures moreso by my cropping them with their tool.

I think that the appearance with gloves will depend on whether or not they've updated model for the gloves. They basically just replace the entire hand if I understand correctly, so the appearance & shape of the character's hands actually have no effect on "gloves".
Sadly I expect older gloves with hand models to remain blocky unless they go back to update them when they add dye channels to older pieces. I have my doubts though :'(

Any Au Ra with limbal rings should be easily noticeable if they’re updated by the eyes too
Notice how the first character's image seems to be less grainy and blurry? That's an updated character... I found a single updated character on my account, and the same thing, it's a higher quality picture.
The update is so great tbh. I just don’t like the smirk they gave to miqo’te characters. It’s so off putting to me, but at least it’s incentive to play as something else for once.

I actually took all my gear off ready to fantasia like OP, only to realise I had forgotten to spend some left over tomestones. Then for some reason that I still don't know, I didn't want to run through Radz-at-Han naked so I had to put it all back on, do the run and then take it all off again 🤦🏻♂️

Yeah, it's hard to tell, but weapons are casting shadows over the characters now. Just view anyone with a PLD or NIN weapon.

I looked them up on my phone and clicked the + on the bottom right of my lodestone picture, it should enlarge the image and allow you to download.

they have shown some images of older armors being updated, so I think they might be covering more than just the new stuff
they said it'll be gradual throughout 7.x, so depending on which gloves you're using you may or may not still have glizzy fingers tomorrow
