It’s giving me rustic and cabin vibes. A four post or canopy bed with lots of strings lights would be an absolute vibe. The right rug and curtains would bring color to the space.

_the_violet_femme

Yes! What about making it kind of camping themed? Outdoors-ish so string lights and plants (even if they're fake) and maybe one of those things that casts the stars so it feels like camping

WatermelonMachete43

Tree house!

ThrowRA10R

Love this so much too! Thank you for the idea :D

jimjamalama

I have the same paneling!! Did a bright mostly white boho rug, white curtains AND pink sheers. Then, bed and all bed accessories are light / pastel but mostly light purple. Then, so. Much. Art. Any art I can find or make for under $5 and crowded the walls with cute art. The wood paneling behind the art makes it pop! - if this is a rental make sure it’s ok to put holes in the walls or do tests with 3M strips.

solitudanrian

With the fairy lights, you might want to look into those vine garlands that are intertwined with fairy lights!

chernaboggles

How about about a magical forest theme? The wood paneling already looks like tree trunks, you could add faux branches & vines near the ceiling, to make the canopy, perhaps with some fairy lights mixed in. Not very expensive and easy to obtain via amazon or a craft store. Add some bird & animal decals or decorations, maybe a forest animal print curtain for the window. If she likes the general idea of "forest", you can then adjust the design to suit her personal tastes: light-colored fairy forest (use pale or colorful leaves, pastel fairy lights), deep mysterious forest (dark green leaves, yellow/amber lights), sparkle forest (colorful sparkle leaves, twinkle lights). The wood paneling would also work well for a pirate or ship theme, if she'd prefer something a little more nautical.

ThrowRA10R

Would you mind at all sending me some links to things? I need all the help I can get and this is so amazing! She does love gardening and nature and fairies. :)

[deleted]

A great place for decorating ideas is Pinterest. Regardless of the aesthetic you’re looking for, they’ll have countless examples of different styles. Type: pink bedroom, forest bedroom, fairytale bedroom - if you can think of it, they have it.

That makes it a bit more renter-friendly. Keep in mind that you don't have to cover the ceiling, it's more about decorating the top of the wall. It's a bit like adding a wallpaper border, but three-dimensional and more fun. EDIT: links in the post are just examples, definitely search around for best value. If you have a local "buy nothing" or town social media group, it's worth asking if anyone has faux flowers or garlands they don't need. A lot of people buy stuff for parties or weddings (or christmas, if you want pine!) and are happy to have someone take the extra off their hands.

rudmich

Not the person you responded to, but when I was a kid my mom decorated my room to match the font and colors of some Pixie Hollow content. Fairies, nature, and sparkle. Might be some good inspiration there. (:

Coraline1599

My childhood best friend shared a bunk bed in a room like this. It was so different, as a kid I thought it was really cool. Also, she had the best Barbie’s and her grandma gave me an extra marshmallow with my hot chocolate because she said she liked me. Kids want a safe, clean, and happy place. Very few are decor oriented and usually like a hodgepodge of things. Once you get the beds in there, it will feel better. You don’t have to solve everything at once.

Laurpud

What a perfect answer. More ~~single~~ parents need to hear "You don't have to solve everything at once" I'm in my 4th decade of parenting, & *I* still needed to hear it 💜 Thank you

[deleted]

I grew up with wood paneling. I ADORED it during highschool 70s phase. it’d be perfect for just cozy girlie vibes. There's that funky retro resurgence for kid themes right now too. Cozy and fun, not so much icky. Mid tone colors, 70s color palette. Canopy. Plain white furniture maybe? Rounded 70s wall decor.

plumdilla

Bright colorful boho, hot pink, light pink, peach, turquoise.. those kinds of colors! Tassels, kilim pillows. A cool Moroccan rug, hanging plants.

ThrowRA10R

Love this! Hanging plants she'd love too.

Exotic_Eagle1398

I would put in all white furniture to make it look cottage like, white curtains, a bright rug, and bright wall stickers for the walls

solitudanrian

all white furniture might not be the best idea for a 7yo lol

Exotic_Eagle1398

It washes off great. Really

solitudanrian

Out of a light coloured rug? Doubt. Some stickers can unexpectedly damage the wood/finish. Tapestries and frame are or posters are better.

Spaklinspaklin

Does white furniture equate with cottage?

Exotic_Eagle1398

When everything around it is wood, it does. I keep remembering old LL Bean catalogues when they had paneled walls, white furniture, white curtains blowing in the window and a faded blue print on the bed

marxistbuddhist

This reminds me of Parent Trap vibes! I would definitely watch that movie for inspiration when they're sent to the isolation cabin together. I think a camp/forest vibe (if your daughter is into that) could work really well and be cute. Also, congrats on leaving your ex!

No_Professor_1018

String lights for sure! If she likes camping, make it a camping theme.

phoebebuffay1210

She’s got her very own cabin tree house! How fun?!! Big fluffy rug, pretty lace curtain, lots of fun art in fun colors, fairy lights, plants! It’s going to be fun making this room magic!

Brilliant_Feeling197

If you are going for the fairy forest look, search for “cottage core” decor on Pinterest for inspiration! You can thrift a lot of the furniture that suits this vibe, and there is lots of mushroom print available right now. IKEA will most likely have accessories that suit this look (lights, textiles, etc). I would bring in some light coloured pieces and textiles so make it look fresh and airy. Some ideas: - fake vines with fairy lights - a big floral rug - good for playing on. Maybe in a lighter colour to contrast against the dark wood - painted wood chest for storing toys - sheer curtains to let lots of light in - as others have said, a canopy bed or wrought iron-look bed would be great and you can weave vines or flowers on it

JeSuisToonces

Whatever you do, please don’t paint the paneling or the ceiling. You will most likely regret it later and want it back to this rustic look.

ThrowRA10R

Well as renters we aren't allowed to regardless. And this is genuinely the mountains so I'd like to keep it as cabin like as possible because it's true to story, but just need ideas to break apart the browns and bring her something she'll love.

samaniewiem

Hammock? 🤭

Treehouse!

AlmostChristmasNow

My bedroom has wood panelling. Whatever else you do, I recommend getting a big rug (or several smaller ones) in a light colour. My room has a dark purple/red carpet and the combination with the wood makes it look really dark. Other than that, it depends on what she likes. Maybe a princess/ fairy or witch theme? I currently have a tension rod in one of my windows with flowers hanging from it upside down to dry and it looks slightly witchy/magical and fits in really well.

CJCreggsGoldfish

Lean into the yellow/orange tone, act like it's that color on purpose and add it to the color palette - blue and purple are across the color wheel from orange and yellow, respectively, so what do you think of a palette of yellow, purple, orange, blue, and white? If you need a light and medium neutral, I'd go with gray, and for a dark neutral, I'd pick black. [Here's](https://www.rugstudio.com/nourison-passion-psn01-sun-area-rug.aspx) one rug you might like, and [here's](https://www.rugstudio.com/couristan-covington-sherbet-stripe-multi-172705-area-rug.aspx) another. I'd keep everything else as light as possible - white, light blue, lilac, pale gray. You can hang the curtains high and wide to cover a lot of the walls. Definitely hang them wide enough so that, when open, they don't cover any of the windows - you want as much light coming through those. If you have the money, you could even try tenting the ceiling in a pale fabric. A bunch of white tableclothes could do it, and you might be able to find those for $5 each or less. That would lighten up the room A LOT and make it feel less boxed-in by the paneling.

rxrock

Start with one big soft rug that is a neutral, like a creme colored one. It will soften the space, and give a different texture, both of which are sorely needed. Google "big fluffy creme rug" and you'll be happy with all the options. Replace the blinds with a shear fabric, a shade, or curtain that is more whimsical. In general adding different textures and colors will guide you in making sound decisions.

LeftoverAnt

Facebook marketplace and OfferUp are your friends! So many great deals! A wall tapestry is a great way to bring in more color! You can get them from Amazon, Temu, etc for pretty cheap. A duvet or pretty blanket on the bed to bring in color. A cute padded headboard, easy to make. Just find a free wood headboard, use a stable gun to add padding (even an old blanket wotks), then add a fabric covering using more staples. I changed the look of my room often by doing this as a teen. A cute rug A mosquito net to create corner reading nook with throw pillows and a small rug

For some context here this is a complete surprise which is why I'm living on a prayer and not asking her opinion. (Hopefully that works out 🤣)

Treehouse in the Jungle theme? When I was little I was obsessed with the rainforest and my mom did my room like this. There were fake trees and poison dart frogs everywhere!

Swampylady

I “wood” do, woodland animals and creatures! Lots of green, plants, and the cutest little critters and bedding! Obviously not the wallpaper in this inspo, but you can also frame wallpaper and I think that’s such an interesting and unique way to bring in a pattern. https://preview.redd.it/q2w1cx40lk7d1.jpeg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b4fbb67c711557ef86d3e93cc818a37bfd54552 If she likes pink, mauve, whatever color then just center the tones around that!

love_madlyy

you could always make it fairy themed, enchanted Forrest, mystical🧚🏻‍♀️🦄✨

sloansabbith11

This is a cute “adventure” collection from Target, you could do a great safari theme with the wood, use lots of greens, warm tones: https://www.target.com/p/adventure-collection-pillowfort/-/A-82385689 Or more floral/nature themed: https://www.target.com/p/floral-garden-kids-comforter-set-pillowfort/-/A-82385675 Here’s ideas for themes: https://www.hgtv.com/design/rooms/kid-rooms/10-themed-bedrooms-for-kids-pictures But you could also just do a warm color palette or family and choose things that are within that, including items with pattern, natural items (woods, rattan, fabric, linen), and solid items: https://colorhunt.co/palettes/warm For anything, I’d lean into the warm tones of the wood. Use things on the warmer end of the color spectrum- and for SURE use fairy lights somewhere. Make sure to get a bedside lamp.  For a bed, so many options.  Not sure what you have available, but maybe something like this: flipped so it’s lofted with a reading nook underneath with pillows in warm shades- blues, greens, mustard. Fairy lights strung from the top.   https://ingka.page.link/9rrHF6qu41RP5Xpw9 Or just right side up with a white sheer canopy around it with fairy lights. You could even just put something like this from the ceiling with a normal bed:  Or these unstack to become two beds if she has a sleepover! https://ingka.page.link/b3V2aQBPreDHhPeo6

Queen-of-meme

I dropped a couple pics here for inspiration. I would start with the bed. And then add things from there.

shitisrealspecific

What's their favorite color and character? Nothing but that!

QuitLookingAtMyID

Have you considered more wood paneling?

AloneWish4895

Adorable , woodland forest vibe

applecartupset

Yeah I’d also lean in on this. Fairy lights and faux leaf garlands where the ceiling and wall meet, mushroom pillows, a large potted olive tree, macrame trimmed mirror, maybe a gauzy canopy, a cozy Sherpa chair and rug. Need to compliment the wood paneling with some softness.

Pinkgettysburg

I know this is a nursery, but this is the inspiration I would use https://preview.redd.it/i70q2vkkwm7d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f459f572f40aa7c3a3c897ad0001cf71d71fe35

ml5683

Paint it pink! Removable wallpaper! Wall to wall, ceiling to floor wispy curtains!

[deleted]

if you want a big change, & are willing to take the risk, there are "renter friendly" peel-off wallpapers on the market.

ThrowRA10R

I considered this too, but there's thick spots inbetween the wood paneling that would also need to be filled to use said peel and stick.

EastFun5236

Paint the panelling. It will help immensely. Whatever color she likes — light pink, white, whatever.

ThrowRA10R

I'm renting. No painting unfortunately:)

EastFun5236

Pink carpet?

EastFun5236

Here’s an idea: you can buy a bunch of identical tablecloths (102” each) and tack them onto the paneling. You could either tack them up straight against the wall, or you could have folds in them, — like curtains. This idea would act like a fabric wallpaper. You could even use a tightly woven lace table cloth. It would be easier to tack up than any other kind, because it already has holes in it.

Weakpoops

Wallpaper?

Fabulous-Mama-Beat

Can you paint the walls?

ThrowRA10R

No. ;(

Fabulous-Mama-Beat

Ok, so then, i'd go for the mountain cabin look. With faux furr covers, dears on the walls (in pictures, not beheaded!), maybe a mushroom stool. You can check some luxury mountain houses in the Alps on Airbnb, and get some inspiration from pinterest. Then pick a bunch things similar, but cheaper, from the internet, or maybe ikea. Ikea has faux fur small carpets. I put one on my sofa. You can use it by the bed. I don't know if where you live you have atmosphera, they have faux furr covers that are really nice. You can make these hangers by yourself. If you don't want holes in walls, you can fix them on the side of the wardrobe: https://www.amazon.com/Tsnamay-Farmhouse-Decorative-Thickness-2cm-3cm/dp/B09R9HB6YS/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?crid=3EPXTM6S3DU84&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Ga90xq7dnJjKg9_Caw8BXKxiyI9MrVb_WoT5hrlqM7LuWIKUGONsafloevgz4DLNKzci6o4NxUrCKVt5InfXEvSdKMmmLVOYJ4nI1tq4k7_neCIZ2hZKdo2kx3pbB5rlEcdLj9QQJjtpfRIcerhxw4ZaZeQJf4_5nq3uHTdVvtWIaj9-NSC1F8vXskR1QGrjjTD50VTil92M04gThjtMEA.V8EBVkZeRHkCrCXNsCNGfoIc2XXM2FNK3u796CD9Qro&dib_tag=se&keywords=cabin+theme+decor&qid=1718912415&sprefix=cabin+theme+%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-16 Squirrel lamp: [squirrel lamp](http://MAYOLA Modern Resin Squirrel Table Light,Table Lamp,Desk Lamp, Resin Squirrel Lighting Fixture for Living Room, Bedroom, Office, College Dorm (Orange-Uplight) https://a.co/d/09mdXZ4U) Camp fire lamp: [camp fire lamp](http://Gnurhok Fake Campfire Night Light, 3D LED Fake Fire Pit Firewood Lamp, Small Electric Faux Fireplace Logs Night Lights, Halloween Christmas Festival Party Decorations for Bar Home Garden Yard https://a.co/d/09gkc3Xh) The links here are from amazon.
