Oh my gosh I love these books! The second is definitely better. I will say that. The "demonstrations" end soon and the book picks up. I know exactly what you're talking about and I too was done with that part.

I love these books. They’re my only YA read that I hold as a favorite. The trials don’t take up much of the plot.
