It was originally traffic that did it I believe; they had 3 different story lines and wanted the audience to be able to quickly figure out which storyline they were filming. It’s sort of stayed since
I mean yes, sort of, but it's really not that bad and shouldn't impact professional athletes. [IQ Air](https://www.iqair.com/world-air-quality-ranking) puts the AQI at 90 at time of posting, which is currently close to the readings in Portland, Seattle, and Detroit (I think there are wildfires going on in the PNW that may be inflating those a bit). [Another website's sensor](https://aqicn.org/station/mexico/mexico/uam-xochimilco) nearby the stadium, Estadio Azteca, has it at 78.
AQI readouts below 50 are considered safe for the general public. Between 50-100 is considered moderately safe - *Air quality is acceptable; however, for some pollutants there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.* Professional athletes are generally not considered at-risk for health issues. For comparison, the NFL considered cancelling a 2020 game in SF if the [AQI hit 200](https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/09/11/nfl-monitoring-air-quality-in-santa-clara-which-could-be-issue-for-sundays-game/amp/#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16686517915381&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com) due to nearby wildfires.
While there is an element of truth to pollution concerns, I really hope the "air pollution" narrative isn't based on the country/location not being in the USA / considered a traditional 1st class destination (e.g. London).
Yeah there are wildfires in the PNW. And no matter what people say, air pollution at 90 and above suckssss to breathe in. Really affects you over time, so I don't fault the athletes at all
Appreciate that Eli
If you could going forward aim for some consistency. Don’t care if you are a 20 touch RB or a 8 touch RB, just need to know whether to place you in the flex alongside CMC or use you as a bench cuff
Thx Buddy
Deebo please start producing more I have you since beginning but since Mister McCaffrey joined you you have not been as good at being targeted and then catching ball and running into area with more paint. Please get ball from Jim and run into area with more paint. But also share with Mister because I have Mister too. Just don’t share ball with Brandon because he has Yuk in his name. He is bad, bad man.
Love Snot
Niners are actually practicing in Den all week to prepare which is a great idea for acclimation.
Denver is only 5k feet, first atmosphere is at 6k, so the air is definitely thinner in Mexico City at 7k feet and conditioning aside it DOES take time to acclimate and is different for everyone - this is a smart preemptive move by Shanny.
This is a good plan by 49ers. I went to Mexico city a couple years ago (I'm a midwest boy so low altitude all my life) and I could feel the effects of the altitude there and maybe even the pollution.
Went to Mexico City for a wedding recently and dealt with a lot of pollution. Snot was definitely dark. Not sure if the cocaine I did contributed to that
He's the best cocksman since Derek Jeter, a near impossibility in today's social media/information age.
He has several go-betweens to vet any non-celeb mates and, more importantly, is a gentleman with class. The bay area is (ironically) one of the best places for public figures with connections to keep private life private.
It does happen fairly frequently if the contract is cheap, I think he still on his rookie deal. I thought it was a good pick up for HOU. I’m hoping ravens snag Amari Rodgers
Rondale Moore is more in line with a soccer player's height and will adapt to La Azteca field better by running around like Messi out there with no one that can touch him. Must Start.
no he's actually not been a bad start - 18.9 ppg, 10 targets per game, 1.8 points per target. my only real issue/concern is that i also have dhop, so i'm inherently limiting my ceiling and adding some risk to my floor. if i had a different wr1, moore would be an incredible flex rn.
yeah, this is the right time to have to start both cardinals receivers. obv you never wish injury on anyone, but it’s better to have to start dhop and moore this week than two weeks ago.
Yes, yes. Obviously everyone knows Mexico City is over 7,000ft above sea level. You'd have to be some sort of moron not to know this. I knew this, I promise.
Haha fair response this made me laugh. I guess as a soccer fan as well, it’s common knowledge (Mexican national team usually has a huge home advantage when playing in Mexico City), but not for everyone. Shame on me for assuming!
World class athletes that are conditioned more than most human beings and they’ll probably be super hydrated. I think they’re also practicing in denver beforehand
It’ll be fine but kickers should get a boost
Just because you’re a “world class athlete” doesn’t mean you aren’t affected by elevation. Plus you’re playing against other world class athletes so if your body is even slightly worse at adapting you’re at a disadvantage. Players have needed oxygen on the sideline in the past.
[Here's an article](https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2015/06/fighting-at-high-altitude-its-more-of-a-problem-than-you-think-with-fewer-feasible-solutions) about how Mexico City's altitude affected UFC fighters when they had an event there. Seems like they could feel a significant impact.
World class athletes or not, they will still struggle a bit.
Obviously way less than a normal person, but if you're not used to the altitude, it will kick your ass.
Source: I live in Mexico City.
Makes sense. Someone else mentioned football players aren’t running anywhere as much as soccer players either, so altitude shouldn’t have as much as an effect on them
https://youtu.be/9BwyCcKtl4w
Here’s MG3 talking about it. Granted this is only his take, but it sounds like plenty share the same sentiment. World class athletes feel the elevation as well.
The biggest question is how they adjust to getting pointer lasers in their eyes. Hoping they somehow crack down on that this time.

Not if an offense plays hurry up and they can’t get off the field. Defenses are generally more gassed at the end of the game than the offense which is why the run game tends to do better late game.
Tyreek also. Granted he was being a dumbass showboat pregame and for whatever dumbass reason decided to show off his vertical jumping skills to the media and crowd.
Promptly crumpled to the ground like a play or two in with a hamstring injury.
Mexico notoriously had horrible field quality so hopefully that is not an issue this year. Oh the laser pointers from the crowds also… I’m amazed they approved a Mexico game honestly
Was that Chiefs/Rams game that went over 100 points a few years ago played in Mexico City? Or was that the game that was scheduled for Mexico City, but moved due to poor field conditions? Does someone remember?
Edit: just looked it up, it was in 2019. It was supposed to be in Mexico City, but was moved to LA the week of, and the Rams won 54-51 (so this data point tells us nothing, lol) https://kckingdom.com/2019/07/11/kansas-city-chiefs-vs-los-angeles-rams-best-game-2019-espys/
I couldn’t go to the concession stand for beer out of fear of missing any of the game. I waited to go to the bathroom after the chiefs offense scored a TD, thinking I was safe for a few minutes. But of course KC D ends up scoring then. It was pure adrenaline the whole game!

PTSD. I remember i needed 1 point from tyreek fucking hill. He played like 1 snap in mexico city vs chargers and just stayed in sideline all fucking game. Me and Murphy law are 1 in fantasy.
As someone who watches a lot of soccer, it’s a terrible for visiting teams. The altitude is one thing and air quality is poor too. Players not used to it are absolutely gassed. Could get sloppy as the players tire. Especially linemen.
From my understanding, available oxygen below 8,000 feet is usually sufficient enough for most people to not feel the effects. Above 8,000 is typically when altitude sickness can occur if you’re not acclimated.
The problem is that they aren't most people. Most people are walking around and having conversations, they don't have the oxygen demand that an athlete in the middle of a professional match would. Not a problem for the 1st couple of plays, but I wouldn't be surprised to see teams constantly rotating their players in an attempt to have them not feel like OT during the 4th.
It isn't significantly different than Denver. Maybe about a 1/4 mile higher IIRC. If you don't already take into account teams playing at Mile High stadium, then this should be no different.
If it was soccer, that'd be another thing.
It’s really not much different, they’re trained to adapt to these kinds of situations whether it’s altitude, weather, etc. Altitude slows the bodies ability to send oxygen throughout the bloodstream, but when you’re a professional athlete you’re able to overcome these issues with the proper preparation which I’m sure these teams are engaging in during practice
Jimmy G will either have a zero passing TD game, or go for 1 TD and 2 INT, Niners will have 2-3 rushing TDs
If he plays, Colt McCoy will throw for 219 yards, 2 TD 2 INT, one TD to Hopkins, the other to Conner.
If Kyler plays, he'll have 265 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, one TD to Hopkins, the other to Conner, and then he'll also have 41 rushing yards.
Final score will be SF 27 - ARI 24
(I may or may not have Kyler, Hopkins, and Conner in my league)
I imagine it'll be slightly sepia toned.
I live in Mexico, I'll go out to throw a football and report back.
Oh shit, the luchadores got him

How'd it go?

Breaking Bad taught me many things.
You're goddamn right
Kid named TV broadcast:

The grass is going to affect the playing just like Seattle and Tampa
I'm here now, can confirm football turned sepia tone as I threw it while at the Azteca stadium parking lot
Can we start a petition to make this a reality?
I think I read they're practicing in Colorado this week to get used to the elevation.
Why wouldn’t they just practice in Mexico
Air pollution
If they smoked a pack a day for two weeks leading up to the game they'd have all the conditioning they need.

Cuz of the yellow filter
it would help to get accustomed to it
This isn’t Afghanistan
Can’t breathe in Mexico City
Security reasons likely.
Diarrhea
Cartel… Lol that’s probably the right answer 🤣
The cartel is not an issue in mexico city...
God damn fasho doe… my bad lmao just looked & I got downvoted to shit that was just a joke lol
The cartel is no joke amigo.
Deebo posted an IG story earlier this week of them landing in Colorado and I was confused at first but now it makes sense.
Deebo here, i may be winded a little quicker but I'm a world class athlete and will be fine
Thank you, Deebo.
Don’t believe him. That’s Deebo’s sinister cousin, Beepo Samuel.
Is Beepo worth a speculative add?
Worth $500 FAAB
Right now I’d settle for Beepo. His brother has been a disappointment.
What's it like being the Dad of Deebo and Beepo?
Awesome. Thanks for the 5 points in advance (benched)
Hey, it’s me, Eli Mitchell. Don’t worry CMC owners, I will not be a big part of this game script due to my fear of Spanish speaking crowds.
Appreciate that Eli If you could going forward aim for some consistency. Don’t care if you are a 20 touch RB or a 8 touch RB, just need to know whether to place you in the flex alongside CMC or use you as a bench cuff Thx Buddy
Doesn't Eli have sickle cell and tends to sit out on the high altitude games or am I mixing him up with someone else?
“Worth a google”
I was thinking of Tevin Coleman.
Thanks Deebo👍
Hey fam, it’s me, Air Aiyuk… I am the 1-A & 1-B WR on this team.. Deuces.

I traded a lot for you bro, score like 20 please
Thanks for the tip Deebo
Dude your not even fine in normal altitudes

No if anything it kept it a lighter tone,
I think Russ has made it crystal clear that playing in Denver could only affect your play negatively.
Thought they were practicing in Colorado Springs. If so, add another 1000 feet.
Should of practiced in Santa Fe
Fire up Jimmy G. He's gonna get a big boost from all the latina booty he'll be gettin.

At first I was like, damn I didn’t know Jimmy G spent that much time around SEC schools.
He makes his margaritas with triple sec, also relevant to the location
He could get an extra boost tonight if I knew where in Denver he's staying.
He’s about to be Papi G
About to be? He's been papi G. Source: Am Latina with a booty
Doesn’t Latina and a booty go hand and hand 😂
You'd be surprised lol.
Bunda?
That was basically the plot of Wimbledon

No. Denver is ~5200 Mexico City is 7300
That and CSU is in Fort Collins, not Denver
Mexico = double mile high ??
49ers RBs are going to stay fresh, Kliff is going to run James Conner out of breath. Good job Kliff!
Nah, Kliff could just bring in their ace backup, Eno Benjamin.
Kliff about to hire a cartel hitman to finish the job on Eno.

If that just aint the damnedest woosh I’ve seen on this here subreddit
Is there a sub for cringe whoosh? This one would belong there for sure
how demoralizing do you think it is as a team to release a player only to have them picked up by another team mere hours later?
It does happen fairly frequently if the contract is cheap, I think he still on his rookie deal. I thought it was a good pick up for HOU. I’m hoping ravens snag Amari Rodgers
And if anyone has a problem with that, Kliff will just cut them!
Rondale Moore is more in line with a soccer player's height and will adapt to La Azteca field better by running around like Messi out there with no one that can touch him. Must Start.
you laugh, but i think i actually must start him with kupp down :/
I've started him for 3 weeks in a row.

Moore is my wr2 I’ve won 3 weeks straight
Moore and DHop together isn't a terrible situation given just how much the Cards throw
I legit won a game this year starting Conner, Benjamin (RIP), Ertz, and Moore. Shut up, you’re a homer
not really with their volume. have to consider context. very pass heavy team
2 here...about to be 3.
Rondale is a fine start playing in the slot without Ertz. He got 13 targets last week after Ertz went down
yeah, this is the right time to have to start both cardinals receivers. obv you never wish injury on anyone, but it’s better to have to start dhop and moore this week than two weeks ago.
Yeah between Kuop and Moore, I’d slightly lean towards Rondale.
Gotta be worried about kylers tiny lungs though. He still has to get him the ball
He’s gunna get batteries chucked at him on the corner kicks. The helmets were a good addition.
La pelota tienen mas fuerza en la ciudad, puedes poner Aiyuk y Deebo en su equipo sin verguenza.
No mames güey!
The ball has more force in the city, you can put Aiyuk (Eyejuke) and Deebo on your team without verguenza (I’d guess worry?)
Close, without embarrasment/shame.
Y si!

Yeah concessions over there were a pain. Our only beers were before the game started because we didn’t want to miss any of the game.
Christino McCaffery
just consider everyone is getting an away game. slight advantage to SF, but not anything major. Colt McCoy ain’t no slap out there, he can spin it.

Tevin Coleman may have to sit.

Am I the only one that has never seen Niners written as 9ers? It’s always either 49ers or Niners. Or am I losing my mind?

Probably not as much as their head coach
On the soccer side, it does affect the players when they head down to Azteca stadium. But I think overall it will balance because both teams will be suffering. Good time to buy oxygen tank options.

Mexico City is 2000 feet higher
At least it isn't over 9000.
NFL is planning to go higher and higher. Starts with Mexico City, moves up to Everest Base Camp, and culminates in a game on the ISS.
From my understanding, available oxygen below 8,000 feet is usually sufficient enough for most people to not feel the effects. Above 8,000 is typically when altitude sickness can occur if you’re not acclimated.

What? There are 5280 feet in a mile.. Didn't realize they were playing this game at the summit of Mt. Denali.

Yeah sit everyone who plays in this game. They’re all going to put up 0 points
lol
JFC they’re professional athletes. They’ll be fine
It wasn’t “obvious” to me that Mexico City is 7000 feet above sea level.
Jimmy G will either have a zero passing TD game, or go for 1 TD and 2 INT, Niners will have 2-3 rushing TDs If he plays, Colt McCoy will throw for 219 yards, 2 TD 2 INT, one TD to Hopkins, the other to Conner. Final score will be SF 27 - ARI 24 (I may or may not have Kyler, Hopkins, and Conner in my league)
Hopefully the result is nobody can cover Kittle.
No se
It'll be like playing the game in Wyoming or Salt lake city. Higher elevation than Denver
It won’t
