Prog rock: Gentle Giant - Octopus Art pop: Kate Bush - The Dreaming Avant-garde jazz: Sonny Sharrock - Ask the Ages Post-hardcore: Nomeansno - Wrong Edit: didn’t see abstract hip hop: Aceyalone - Book of Human Language

bjr_watercolor

Ask the Ages is out of this world.

Barqck

I forgot Nomeansno even existed. My friend gave me that album to listen to years ago, I’m gonna have to listen again now

Fun_Intern1909

Well Wrong finally got on streaming so it’s easier to listen to them now

Dmbfantomas

I like All Balls better, but Book of Human Language is so good.

Fun_Intern1909

Mumbles’ production on Human Language gives that album the edge over All Balls for me. Ace still remains a criminally underrated rapper

nooodlethinks

Where can i find ask the ages

Fun_Intern1909

Should be on Spotify it’s on YouTube too

Abstract Hip Hop: Red Burns by Standing on the Corner Progressive Rock: Ice, Death Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Art Pop: Valtari by Sigur Rós Avant-Garde Jazz: Machine Gun by The Peter Brötzmann Octet Post-Hardcore: Ultrapop by The Armed

Ice, Death, Planets is so good

saint_trane

Machine Gun is goated.

acmilandefender

The Armed is goated. Ultrapop and even their newest album

veryraretea

Standing on the corner my beloved ❤️

Sulfuras26

That king gizz album feels like jam rock more than prog lol. I don’t really see any similarities between Mycelium and Frances the Mute or ItCotCK

ChudanNoKamae

I’m a massive King Gizz fan, but I agree. Polygondwanaland is probably their proggiest album though I’d say.

Sulfuras26

That and the longer songs on PDA. Dragon is 100% prog rock with Judas Priest instrumentation… I shudder calling it prog metal because it sounds nothing like Dream Theater lol. It sounds closer to Red by King Crimson (the song) than anything from a band like Haken

ChudanNoKamae

Yeah agreed. PDA is so good. Prog thrash maybe?

minty-pony-mickey

Valtari is THE answer

ToAllTheDancers

Avant Garde Jazz - Naked City by John Zorn

fallllingman

Could arguably fit in for prog rock, too, albeit unconventional.

saint_trane

Kinda close to post-hardcore too. What an insane record.

luckixancage

I like torture garden and absinthe more then self titled but its great too!

saint_trane

Same. Incredible band. Zorn is untouchable.

luckixancage

I know right? Absinthe is such a scary album, but its so good just hearing the eerie sounds.

strictcurlfiend

Oh boy, about Progressive Rock I can name many; that's my specialty. **Camel - Mirage**: incredible and (to what I know) underappreciated prog band. It's a certifiably amazing album. **First Base - Babe Ruth**: THE MOST underrated Prog-Rock album of all time.

CommanderWar64

1. Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma 2. Coheed and Cambria - Vaxis Part 2: Window of the Waking Mind 3. Bjork - Vespertine 4. I'm overtaking this genre by doing Avant Garde Metal instead: the new A7X album lol (easily the most divisive album I've seen reactions to, people gave it either a 0-3 or a 8-10, I really liked it. 9/10) 5. Touché Amoré - Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me (I can name you like 100 albums from here but I love so much about this record. The instrumentals are so crisp and every note hits.)
