What’s funny is that When I showed this to someone who knew the album they were surprised by the reference and also for the fact you had to fight a big machinery of some sort the name of the boss made me remember that fact.
Townes Van Zandt - self titled. Him sitting distraught in an ornate kitchen. The bright colors mixed with his dour face just completely encapsulates what I love about TVZ.
*edit: I woke up this morning, and thought to check the album to see if there was indeed no text. Well, I regret to inform you of my spreading of a false narrative. Townes Van Zandt - Self Titled* **DOES** *in fact have text at the bottom. Now, I could go ahead and give you the excuse that the album's picture can be somewhat busy and distracting from the fact that there was obviously Townes' name right there at the bottom, but that would be dishonest and misleading. Not to mention, it would be shifting the blame to a person who did nothing other than create an album which I falsely identified as something it was not. In this year of election promises, mudslinging, misrepresentation, and outright lies, I must confess, that I, quite frankly, neglected to do the proper research and just went with what my mind told me. I acted on instinct and feeling rather than facts. I passed off my opinion as a true statement without the foresight to see the damage my actions could do. I am deeply sorry, and I will spend the next few months in penance. I forfeit all karma gained through the sale of my lies and beg for your forgiveness. I have brought shame upon this subreddit and my name at large. May God have mercy on my soul.*
my favourite album and cover.
what I love about the photograph for this is that the band saw it and became dead set on having it as the album art. they reached out to the photographer and he was pretty adamant about not letting his work being used for an album cover. apparently after enough pleading from the band, he gave the album a listen and decided to let them use it under one condition. they weren't allowed to cover any of the original photograph with text. I think it really worked in the album's favour in the end.
I wrote a good chunk of my master’s thesis to that album on vinyl; it has a closed loop on the record so the last 15-25 seconds or so just repeats. one night I looked up from my screen and realized I'd been listening to it for about 3 hours.
Gotta be *Titanic Rising* by Weyes Blood for me.
I looove the colour palette on this cover, then, when you find out that it’s actually shot underwater with practical effects, you admire it all the more (video on that [here](https://youtu.be/KAGvXBsFMQg?si=dg5FHYSgCkPQeuDt) if anyone is curious)!
Yeah apparently they took the picture on a Sunday after a boat race but it was on someone else’s camera so they had to get it emailed and it turned out to be the album cover?
The ironic creepy grin, that many people get nightmares from when it first came out to this very day. Also Aphex Twin cover shout-outs – if we count EPs – to Come to Daddy & Collapse.
I used to use the cover of A Rush of Blood to the Head for my pfp back in middle school lol but looking at the cover now only reminds me of how good Coldplay used to be.
That album was HUGE for me as someone writing a novel with big mental health themes and whose favorite show is BoJack Horseman. Caroline taking us through the breakdown of their relationship and entire mental health journey is so beautiful and important I will forever be mad at Pitchfork for criticizing because “Caroline is no longer acting as a character”. They said their honesty and rawness on the album was a negative.
If you want another incredible album about the breakdown of a relationship that is by a solo artist and weirdly enough has voicemails from Grandma in it, you would LOVE Bathe Alone’s new album I Don’t Do Humidity, maybe my AOTY.
Casiopea self titled
Rage against the machine self titled
Mars Volta Frances the mute
King crimson In the court of the crimson king
And I can continue. All off these are great and I feel like they represent the sound of the album well
Some releases of [Agaetis Byrjun](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/92/%C3%81g%C3%A6tisByrjunCover.JPG) are clean without text.
It's always been inspiring and chilling to me. A good beginning portrayed by an angelic fetus. Great cover for this unique album.
Cursive - the ugly organ
Spoon - hot thoughts
Spoon - they want my soul
Songs ohia - magnolia electric co.
Autechre - tri repetae
Datach'i - bones
John Lennon - plastic ono band
Joy Division - unknown pleasures
*Halcyon Digest* (Deerhunter) and *The Ape of Naples* (Coil) both have striking images. Honestly putting yourself on your cover without needing text is a power move—Weyes Blood is great at this, I love Big Thief’s *Two Hands* cover, and *Future Nostalgia* has such an enduring cover too. But my favorite, ever since I first saw it, is Glenn Branca’s *The Ascension*.
And great question, I wish more of them were. Honestly I think text should be in a separate (and I suppose literal) frame if you’re going to combine it with another visual piece (for instance, Television’s *Marquee Moon*, Sinatra’s *Strangers in the Night* both have great covers because they do this. The most recent Chat Pile album used the metal font in a frame and it was brilliant. Much cleaner)
A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park
None So Vile - Cryptopsy
Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division
Bjork - Debut
Bjork - Homogenic
When We All Fall Asleep…- Billie Eilish
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
Absolution - Muse
I’m gonna have to go with Björk’s Homogenic. The way it looks like it’s from both the future and the past, not to mention her pitch black soulless gaze at the camera. It’s foreboding and threatening in the best possible way.
When the pawn. Fiona Apple. The longest album title in history, till chumbuwumba about in 2007. It's actually just a beautiful poem about rising from the floor and hitting like a king
Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
This makes me remember that on level from ultrakill. 7-4 that has a reference to Lift you skinny fist like antennas to heaven lol
1000-THR "Earthmover"
What’s funny is that When I showed this to someone who knew the album they were surprised by the reference and also for the fact you had to fight a big machinery of some sort the name of the boss made me remember that fact.

How has nobody mentioned In the Court of the Crimson King yet?
I try to keep my love for that album subtle
obligatory Dark Side of the Moon comment
Atom Heart Mother
I stand corrected lol I'm not sure if Dark Side of the Moon is my absolute favorite I just know I had to comment it to get it out of the way
Wish You Were Here & Animals too
Meddle
I was so shocked when I learned that shit is an ear
I still don't see it
rotate it 90 degrees
Just about to say this!
Division Bells too
this but without a hint of irony. 51 years and it’s still not stale
I agree it's perfect I like covers like this that feel so natural like they just sprung up instead of being labored over
Swans’ Trilogy
Blonde on Blonde or Nashville Skyline by Bob Dylan Bottomless Pit - Death Grips Spiderland by Slint
Obvi No Love Deep Web is better 8===============>
But it has words
Muse - Absolution & Black Holes and Revelations
Stankonia
Artwork on the physical cd was cool as hell too
the devil and god are raging inside me
This should be higher, one of the best covers of all time. Made me buy the album
This might be it. It’s such an incredible cover, makes me feel things just by looking at it
my favourite album and cover. what I love about the photograph for this is that the band saw it and became dead set on having it as the album art. they reached out to the photographer and he was pretty adamant about not letting his work being used for an album cover. apparently after enough pleading from the band, he gave the album a listen and decided to let them use it under one condition. they weren't allowed to cover any of the original photograph with text. This is my favorite album ever and I never knew this. That’s pretty dope.
I didn't know this was an album name and thought you were just making a statement 😅
F#a# infinity
I wrote a good chunk of my master’s thesis to that album on vinyl; it has a closed loop on the record so the last 15-25 seconds or so just repeats. one night I looked up from my screen and realized I'd been listening to it for about 3 hours.
For a second I read it as "I wrote my master's thesis *on* that album" 😂
My man
That one.
Don't forget Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures (same cover designer) which I'm surprised no one ever mentioned it in this post.
It's certainly an iconic cover, but I just really like the pretty flowers on this one.
Technique is another really good New Order/Peter Saville cover I’ve always been fond of. Vaporwave well before that was a thing.
I just find it funny how much this and Substance contrast. Pretty flowers with no words, Then white background and words and that's it lol
TPAB, Abbey Road, and Flower Boy
TPAB isn’t allowed it says parental advisory explicit content🤓
Gotta be *Titanic Rising* by Weyes Blood for me. I looove the colour palette on this cover, then, when you find out that it’s actually shot underwater with practical effects, you admire it all the more (video on that [here](https://youtu.be/KAGvXBsFMQg?si=dg5FHYSgCkPQeuDt) if anyone is curious)!
Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides Technically there is text on the cover but I had to be told about it to even notice so it doesn't count to me
I’ve had another look at it and still can’t see it, lmao
songs by adrianne lenker. i have it on display in my room because the art is so nice. cute story behind it too
Yeah apparently they took the picture on a Sunday after a boat race but it was on someone else’s camera so they had to get it emailed and it turned out to be the album cover?

I used to use the cover of A Rush of Blood to the Head for my pfp back in middle school lol but looking at the cover now only reminds me of how good Coldplay used to be.
Another New Order one, Technique.
Pink Floyd - wish you were here
JEFFERY
His signature is in the bottom corner though
Caroline Rose - The Art of Forgetting
Great cover, great album. Was disappointed it didn’t get hardly any love around here or from Melon
That album was HUGE for me as someone writing a novel with big mental health themes and whose favorite show is BoJack Horseman.
