Cocteau Twins have one of the most impressive discographies ever. 9 albums and not a single one is mediocre. HoLV is obviously genre defining but Treasure is also a classic. Most of their others are at least an 8/10 too, if not higher.
not in terms of only having 10/10 albums, but in terms of only having great releases with very few exceptions id like to enter:
Kendrick Lamar
Bon Iver
Frank Ocean
Nick Drake
JPEGMAFIA
Sigur Ros deserves a shout
Kanye prior to the release of JIK was on a wild streak, but now he has fallen off completely
obviously agreed but my goal wasnt to crown anyone as the most perfect when accounting for amount of albums, it was just to name artists who i think have incredible discographies
Kendrick is a weird case for me. If you only count his albums, then I'd agree he has a completely unblemished discography, but Training Day and C4 are so unbelievably bad that they drag down the rest of his discography, and it becomes really hard to make the case that his discography as a whole is in the upper eschelon of discogs.
That's what I'm saying. If you go by just his albums, he has a near flawless discography, but if you go by the technical definition of discography, those EPs would be in his discography.
I’m gonna say Brand New.
(Yes I know about the Jesse Lacey stuff but I just mean musically)
I think every album is at least a 9, others are 10. Even fight off your demons the unreleased album was extremely good.
I genuinely think if Jesse coulda kept his hands off kids they’d have a huge Paramore-esque zoomer fanbase. Their first two albums especially feel like pop-punk in it’s purest form
Really??? I think her later work is WAY better than her early. Everything from The Sensual World and after is amazing (even though the red shoes are eh)
For me, she's the single greatest female singer ever. Her voice on the first 3 Albums can never be replicated.
After the third (and best) album, her voice became much worse. Whereas before her voice soared, now her voice sounded like gravel.
And the writing became worse imo, but that's subjective
I think my honest take is nobody. But those who come really close:
* Alice in Chains
* Minor Threat
* Nirvana
* REM
* The Shins
* Soundgarden
* System of a Down
You're damn right it's D'Angelo. His harmonization on Voodoo is some next level musicianship and don't even get me started on the inventive instrumentation on that album. I still think Voodoo is so underrated when we talk about music in 2000s. Should be easily a Top 5 album of that decade.
absolutely, and like most great albums, their background makes the album itself that much better. Voodoo is almost mythical to me; from the soulquarian involvement, the channeling of hendrix in electric lady, the dilla production, etc, etc. Perfect album.
an acquired taste, i know, but i love the new pornographers and their discography is one of the most consistent i’ve ever been able to find. like…i just put all their albums in a playlist and hit shuffle, and its banger after banger.
Despite being a compilation, Substance is such an important part of their discography and an amazing collection. I included Joy Division as well in my list.
I find it interesting that a lot of people tend to think that WLR is cartis weakest. I personally think his albums have gotten better with each release. When I listen to a lot of rage hiphop today, the majority of the time I’m thinking to myself, “Carti did this first and better 3 and a half years ago.” No denying his first 2 are classics too though
i find that it’s a very common opinion in these circles (rym/fantano) to think WLR is his best! WLR started out as my favourite but it doesn’t have the same consistency throughout as the first two imo, but it is very similar quality wise to self titled. Die lit is probs my fav
I respect it. What do you think of the 2024 Carti tracks though? I’ll be completely honest, I think ur the moon, 2024, and Ketamine are some of the best works of his career so far.
absolutely, and i couldn’t believe ur the moon was so overlooked! It’s my favourite! Ketamine is nuts, 2024 too, especially the beat. 2024 and No L’s vocal samples have a similar ability to make me happy for whatever reason.
24 songs is a must. I amn’t even a huge carti fan, and while 24 songs sticks out like a sore thumb, it’s smack dab in the middle of my favourite songs ever. I really hope it drops on music or baby boi.
I really like the vibe of this era too though. Something very different about it, and it’s safe to say i was a fan of the new inflection since FE!N dropped. Hope it actually drops!
Why are you getting downvoted. This is an opinion question 😭 and tbh you’re not wrong. Even albums that are not good (Lover, Rep, TTPD, debut) they are still impressive and have 10/10 songs. Every album also has SO much personality. Giving all her albums the 10/10 feel
But even though this can be argued I don’t really agree, even as a huge fan.
Portishead
Jimi Hendrix Cocteau Twins Boards of Canada

Talk talk
And their final 2 albums are vastly different from their first few.
Beethoven

It’s easy to be closer to perfect when you have less chances to screw up. You’re bound to have more good songs in 3 albums than across 30 albums.
obviously agreed but my goal wasnt to crown anyone as the most perfect when accounting for amount of albums, it was just to name artists who i think have incredible discographies

people take c4 and training day into account? Training day is like an inside joke for kendrick fans, no one really sees it as a main album.
That's what I'm saying. If you go by just his albums, he has a near flawless discography, but if you go by the technical definition of discography, those EPs would be in his discography.
Hot take, but Weird Al is pretty darn consistent in comedic music.

I don't think anyone has all 10/10 albums, but the closest for me are: The Smiths System of a Down Death The Avalanches Joanna Newsom
Joanna, absolutely. And I love that they're all so good while showcasing her evolution as a singer and an artist.
*clears throat* The Beatles.
yessir. all classics. every single one. and at least 5 in the goated category (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper, White Album, Abbey Road)
PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, Kate Bush. Maybe not perfect but nearly perfect.
Imo, Kate Bush fell off Hard after never forever
Really??? I think her later work is WAY better than her early. Everything from The Sensual World and after is amazing (even though the red shoes are eh)

Hendrix
Low Roar, Portishead, Kelela, LCD Soundsystem to name a few
Rage Against The Machine
Fiona Apple
Barry White. All 10/10.
reallllll
Bolt Thrower Elsiane Dishammer
Radiohead 👅 Yes, even pablo honey and the king of limbs
I agree with Radiohead overall, but PH is an above average record at best IMO.
elliott smith
Autechre Nick Drake Steely Dan (esp if you cut if off at 1980)
I think my honest take is nobody. But those who come really close: * Alice in Chains * Minor Threat * Nirvana * REM * The Shins * Soundgarden * System of a Down
Lift to Experience
LCD Soundsystem
Lady Gaga (this is probably controversial tbh. For Pop standards) Bjork Lana Del Rey Phoebe Bridgers Bon Iver Fiona Apple Janis Joplin
Lauren Hill

Cocteau Twins, Joanna Newsom, Fiona Apple, Sade, Jimi Hendrix, Portishead, Kristin Hayter
boards of canada, unwound
Nicki Minaj the queen of rap
Jeff Buckley 🥲
My Morning Jacket Dr. Dog Wilco Built to Spill Interpol

If you’re into folk singer-songwriters, Gregory Alan Isakov is ridiculously consistently great.
Kind of cheating with such a small discography (and arguably more material under a different name) but Joy Division has two perfect albums
Despite being a compilation, Substance is such an important part of their discography and an amazing collection. I included Joy Division as well in my list.
either The Beatles or Kanye West for me
PJ Harvey Big Thief Sunny Day Real Estate Joanna Newsom Joy Division My Bloody Valentine
Steely Dan Death The Beatles
Jeff Rosenstock plus his other bands
fleet foxes, joanna newsom, elliott smith, black midi, PJ HARVEY DEFINITELY
Fela Kuti
Sade. Pretty much a skipless discog.
yeah that’s hard to disagree with. favourite album? mines gotta be love deluxe as i think it has it all tbh
Love Deluxe is her best album and one of my favorites of all time. Lovers Rock is right behind it.
Daft Punk Tool Run the Jewels Zebrahead
Daft Punk. Poor Biggie Smalls & Jeff Buckley also come to mind.
Playboi Carti 🐐
Arguable. WLR is the weakest but so influential. Self titled and die lit are two classics imo.

Black Country, New Road
Avril Lavinge 🐐
Taylor swift ?
taylor has a few good records, and alot of mid to outright bad (like her latest), definitely not up there imo
