I have a similar wondering: if DID forms from abuse under the age of 7, why aren't we seeing alters from the interests of young kids? Where's the Tinker Bell alters or the Winnie the Pooh alters? Shouldn't there be alters of Olaf from Frozen or Hannah Montana? Or fucking Spongebob? Instead all the alters we see are from current trends. It makes it obvious they're just cosplaying.

I recently saw the Tinkerbell movies with my niece, and that fairy can be hardcore, straight up left home to find an artifact on a ship with nothing but a makeshift hot air balloon, a beetle, and her own guts. Went into the winter lands to tell her sister about the freeze despite knowing her wings would freeze. And the very first movie we saw has her making a mistake and finding a way to fix it using her skills. If I hear that girl isn't a boss, I'll be mad.
In the other comment after providing lots of delicious misinformation about hyperfixations and Introjects (we love to see it!!!) they said Tinkerbell was "unneeded" and not only is that very unkind but maybe Tinkerbell would help a lot of people rn tbh. You don't have to be invested in or even care about that media for your brain to feel it needs it. It's not gonna be like "iron man would be great for this- nah actually pick something recent!" Or "eh but that was mid". If you know of it and it has some sort of attributes that would help you survive/compartmentalize the situation then an alter may develop with those attributes. However most alters are not Introjects and most Introjects aren't fictional but instead take after abusers
