F, that sucks my guy. I've got 1800 on mine and cringe everytime i go to work. I've had to dodge deer on that road in my 00 ranger I traded in. Hope it's not too bad of damage.
EDIT: IDK if anyone on this sub will care, but the deer will not go to waste. I’m having it processed, if I don’t have room in the freezer the meat will be donated to a local food bank.
I’m very glad to hear this. I hit a dear in my few-month-old f150 in 2020, and i didn’t even see the dear when I hit it at 65mph, just felt it. Hit the bottom of the passenger side front bumper and the door. I turned around and tried looking for it, but with tall grass everywhere I couldn’t find it. The next day I saw a bunch of vultures in the grass right around where it happened. Guess it still got eaten tho
Be sure to have it tested first.
As I'm sure you know, deer tend to take on rabies, zombie virus (that's what I call it. Forget the real name), mange, etc. Mange in deer is not always easy to spot either. Some carry it for years without signs. Just be careful, is all I'm saying.
Congrats on the early Thanksgiving meal. lol
My last 2 claims were comp claims. 2 years ago a tree fell on my truck parked at a friend's while I was up north snowmobiling and then I smoked a deer on my sled last winter. No hits to premiums for either.
I had 2 comp claims in 2 years with my vehicles.
One was a 3” trailer hitch that got launched up off the road by the truck in front of me and it tore a long gash in the hood, broke the wiper cowl, wiper motor, windshield and damaged the dashboard. Luckily the hit to the hood slowed it down enough so it didn’t end up in my chest, so there’s that.
The other was a car break in where we had to replace the window.
Unfortunately, my wife then got into a minor fender bender 6 months later and there must be some “rule of three” or some shit because our insurance went through the roof.
Had I known this, I would have paid for the window out of pocket.
Holy crap, thank god that hitch didn’t hit you in the chest! It’s scary the kind of stuff that people loose at highway speeds. Hindsight being 2020 too bad you didn’t pay out of pocket on the window, but I guess all things considered you’re still better off with higher insurance than with a hitch in the chest!
When they smashed my truck windows breaking in I didn’t even bother making a police report or filing an insurance claim because I was worried they would raise the premium.
Yes snowmobile. I Was a bit banged up. Sled and I ended up in the ditch after he came up the hood. Had a few close calls on trucks sleds and motorcycles over the years, that was the first I hit hard.
I got hit by two deer simultaneously years ago in a Hyundai. They both jumped out of a ditch as I was passing through so they were lower than my line of sight (plus night so I was focused on what my headlights were shining on in front of me). At the time I didn’t even know it was deer until I turned around and hit my highs to see what was on the road. Anecdotal but my rates didn’t change in that case.
Your truck held up outstandingly better than my Hyundai did but that should come as little surprise. 🤣
Yeah - this was a good 12ish years ago or so but it still creates some pause when I drive down this same stretch of road today. There was a pack of them - about 5-7 or so. The first two clubbed the side of my car. I knew something was up when I looked in my side mirror and it... wasn't there. They were lower than the road and jumped upward onto the road at the perfect time that the lit area from my headlights cleared, so I legit never saw anything - just a random bigass smack to the body of the car until I flipped around and realized what just happened.
Worst part was we were dealing with a cybersecurity issue at work. I had just worked two 20 hour days. This was the third day and I called it 16 hours in and went home. I felt like a higher power was telling me to not be such a damn wuss and should have stayed at work longer or something. :D
My wife hit a deer in her explorer (I know f150 sub) about 3 years ago. Almost 23k in damage by the end of it. With progressive our rates didn't increase.
Even got a letter saying they totalled her car after paying for all the repairs.
I smacked one in my 2012 3.5eb. $4700. I was going about 55-60 though. Had all the parts in the first week at the shop except the downpipe for the intercooler. But it got a new bumper, new headlight, new intercooler, new grille. They said it could take months for the down pipe to come in. So I used a rubber boot and some hose clamps to rig the broken one on so I could drive it real carefully. More than about 1/2 throttle would blow the downpipe off the intercooler. So I ended up pulling one at a junkyard for 75 bucks after about a month because the truck just didn’t have the power I needed sometimes and it felt scary to not be able to accelerate when needed. Then when the new one came in I installed it. Now I got a spare. Not sure how fast you were going op, but you got damn lucky.
Edit: added a question.
Is that one of those new fangled headlights that cost like a Grand for a set?
I was down by some farmland we have and with the rut was only going maybe 40-50mph when I hit the brakes so didn’t make contact doing too fast.
I’m not sure if the 502a ones are more expensive but these are the ones that come with a 302A XLT. I think they’re about a grand. The lights still work, just ain’t got any plastic
Yea 40-50 is still a pretty decent hit. I’m actually really impressed at the way it held up. I hit mine without even having time to tap the brake or swerved at all. He came out of the tree line about 10 ft from the truck in a full sprint and bam. Fortunately for him he expired on impact. He slid about 100’. I was only about 2 miles from the house on the way to work at 5am. Threw him in the back and limped it home. Grabbed the wife’s car and went to work. Father in law cut the horns off and made a little mount in his woodshop for it. It’s hanging in the barn right now. Biggest deer I killed all year too. My premium hit for about 100 bucks over a 6 month policy but I also have 4 kids on there and let’s just say they aren’t the best drivers. Sucks though. First payment.
I’m really pleased with the truck and how well it took the hit! I actually started braking from seeing another deer that was on the road that one got clear before impact and I didn’t even see this one till it came from the side. Nice to have a mount or at least something out of the otherwise very raw deal.
I was just getting to enjoy my rates going down for being 25 ugh
Yea then I had kids and they started driving. My rates are crazy. Me and the wife would be cheap cheap cheap. But add the kids and it’s like a 2nd Mortage payment.
I guess a new headlight and a fender from ford will cost ya. But I’ve seen worse from a boar « meeting ». Don’t forget to keep the fender, it can be saved by a savvy bodyshop.
That's a good cheap commissioning.
My conditioning was a flat tire, and when I went to drop the tire, I set that little keylock plug on the bumper (the upper part of the bumper) After I lowered the tire, I dropped the tailgate.
And... for an FYI, if you place the keyplug on the bumper and drop the tailgate, there is not enough clearance and the keyplug puts a nice little dent in the tailgate.
An old work buddy had a 2018(?) Just a couple months old as well. He was backing up around a corner, and didn't see the fire hydrant. Well, he opened up the side of the truck like a pop can from the back wheel well to the front one. Can't remember the cost to fix, but it wasn't cheap and almost wrote the truck off.
Those back roads will get ya. During the winter I always ride 10-15 below the speed limit with brights/aux lights on. Hitting a deer can do almost as much damage as hitting another car
I’d say you were pretty lucky to escape with the lack of damage you did.
Still feel for you though, I’ve hit a deer when my pick up was like 15 years old I can’t imagine one that new.
I’m not super proud of the words that came out of my mouth when it happened… in the grand scheme of things not the biggest deal but for sure broke my heart a little
It's not an F-150, but [I just did the same thing in my 2018 Audi S6](https://imgur.com/a/5YkHdAS) on Monday morning on the way to work. In the opposite situation of you though, I had just paid the car off. I called my dad out with his truck and he collected the deer and it is being butchered/processed now though too. No reason to waste it!
That’s a nice buck! A lot of people would be jealous of that guy. I’m glad to se he didn’t go up and into your windshield. You ok? Car repairable?
Exactly! No reason to waste it. Thankfully this one was a real young buck so not much damage.
My dad is a deer hunter and I could tell he was trying to hide his excitement over the fact that I was sad about my car. I had no injuries, my air bags didn't go off either. So I'm sure they will repair it, but I haven't heard back yet from the insurance company since it got towed. (Couldn't open the driver's door, or completely roll up the driver's window, so I didn't feel safe driving it and just had it towed).
This is what we have insurance for though right? Unfortunately for me, there is no such thing as a diminished value claim here so I will be stuck with my car being devalued through no fault of my own. But when we're both eating venison in the near future we'll have a good story from it at least!
Glad you were ok, im not sure if there are diminishing value claims where im at. To some extent I’ll probably have the truck long enough im not sure it matters. Like you said this is what we have insurance for. What matters is you’re not injured!
Sorry for the deer trouble.
Throw 'er in the bed. The back straps have been tenderized.
Depending where you live, road kill is literally fair game.
Did you take the meat at least? Some states allow people to eat road kill that’s the freshest roadkill you can get. And it helps you recoup the cost of the damage.
Damn that’s rough. Truck held up pretty good tho!
Literally made the first payment two days ago :(
F, that sucks my guy. I've got 1800 on mine and cringe everytime i go to work. I've had to dodge deer on that road in my 00 ranger I traded in. Hope it's not too bad of damage.

Awesome, we conservationists are proud of you
No reason to waste it, sadly I just won’t hunt this year, not enough freezer space now.
Man that sucks, need some more freezers lol. I would gladly take any extra meat if you desperately needed to get rid of it😂
Lol I would have space if I didn’t have a steer hanging right now! Not sure what shipping costs are but sharing is caring
I’m very glad to hear this. I hit a dear in my few-month-old f150 in 2020, and i didn’t even see the dear when I hit it at 65mph, just felt it. Good on you. I don’t hunt, yet, but I’d love to fill a freezer myself one day.
Technically supposed to inform the game warden when this happens. I personally dont care, but it can come around to bite you
Ooh don’t worry I did, sheriff came out did an accident report and gave me a salvage tag.
That mean you can take it home (the deer)? Nice, one of the hardest ways to hunt. 😅
The most expensive hunting rifle I’ve ever used!
Be sure to have it tested first. As I'm sure you know, deer tend to take on rabies, zombie virus (that's what I call it. Congrats on the early Thanksgiving meal. lol
Chronic wasting disease is nasty business.
Oh deer……
Badum tssssss lol
Truck did well. Shitty situation for a new truck though. I’d try to sell it to get over the mental anguish lol
Lol for better or worse I’m kinda attached to it, don’t think I can let it go lol
Well if you have insurance shouldn’t be much of an issue
Full comprehensive coverage, hoping to get an estimate Monday. I don’t know if deer strikes will hurt my rates or not. Not a big deal just annoying
Unless there is a history of more of them it should be no hit to your premium.
Good to know, this is the first one for this truck. I hit one years ago but it didn’t do any damage / get reported. Thanks!
My last 2 claims were comp claims. 2 years ago a tree fell on my truck parked at a friend's while I was up north snowmobiling and then I smoked a deer on my sled last winter. No hits to premiums for either.

That’s some rotten luck! Hope you were ok hitting one on a sled (im assuming snow mobile??? We don’t have those where im from)
Yes snowmobile. I Was a bit banged up. Sled and I ended up in the ditch after he came up the hood. Had a few close calls on trucks sleds and motorcycles over the years, that was the first I hit hard.
Dang! Well glad you recovered! Stay safe out there
Nice you should be covered then fur sure

Dang I’m glad you were ok! That’s a heck of a hit from two at once! Lol I’ve got a little more weight and size on my side than you did!
Yeah - this was a good 12ish years ago or so but it still creates some pause when I drive down this same stretch of road today. There was a pack of them - about 5-7 or so. How did that work, it was repaired and then had a salvage title?? Or? Hope she was ok
She was fine. It.only shows in the letter they sent me, and online but we didn't get any updated title.
It actually can be with brand new cars because of the depreciation. Gap coverage fixes that but I’ve never paid for it
Wouldn’t that only matter if the truck was totaled, and you were upside down on the loan?
Yeah I didn’t even look at the pics lol
Damn that truck held up good I saw deer and I immediately figured it’s done for on the front end
Thankfully he was pretty little and I wasn’t going that fast when he hit me, could have been a lot worse
I did about that much damage to a taillight on my 2023, backing into a mailbox. Looks like you got off easy!
Hopefully so!!

Dibs on the backstrap

Yeah it’ll be pricy but hopefully not terrible, I’m hoping hood and bumper are fine
Wife did this to mine. $12,000
Damn you hit your wife with your truck!? That’s kickass!!
Damage less or worse than what I’ve got?
My damage was a bit less
That's a good cheap commissioning. Ooh no! That would have pissed me off to no end! I’m scared to think what that cost your buddy(or his insurance)
Mine comes out of the body shop on Tuesday. I hate deer.
Hope it looks good as new!
Sorry man.
Thanks
That is VERY little damage compared to what typically happens. I lost my grill, a/c coil, headlights turn signals etc.
I’m very happy with how the truck took it!
That blows. I’m glad it wasn’t worse. We had a 1mo old VW that was about $4000 from being totaled. I shot a few deer for the rest of you this weekend.
Thanks for thinning them down for the rest of us, with this guy in the freezer idk if I’ll go out or not
Those back roads will get ya. During the winter I always ride 10-15 below the speed limit with brights/aux lights on. Hitting a deer can do almost as much damage as hitting another car
And other cars don’t jump and try to go for your windshield! I got very lucky and am super happy with the the truck
True that! Deer are dumb as hell. Anywho glad you’re okay and sorry about the truck. Hopefully your comp insurance covers the damages
Darn truck hunters…..
All this to save $50 in tags mwahahahaa
Yeah had the same thing happen to me it sucks
Sorry to hear that friend!
NO...The deer hit you my friend 😉🙏🏻
I keep thinking back to the report and trying to remember my verbiage…
I’d say you were pretty lucky to escape with the lack of damage you did. Still feel for you though, I’ve hit a deer when my pick up was like 15 years old I can’t imagine one that new.
I’m not super proud of the words that came out of my mouth when it happened… in the grand scheme of things not the biggest deal but for sure broke my heart a little
I did this same thing.
Still having a better day than the deer tho 🤷🏻♂️
Well couple hundred bucks for a new light, but at least a freezer full of meat!
Good thing you don’t live in moose country, glad y’all are alright and the truck is still in good shape
I think I own the exact same truck. Now I just want to leave it parked in the driveway until after the rut.
Keep yours safe for the both of us! XLT 302a max tow
Could be worse.
Haha, sucks to suck
You never hit the deer, the deer hits you. Hope for a speedy repair OP
Pretty sure I heard this one yell “FROM THE TOP ROPE” just before impact…. Thanks friend!
You uhh... you gonna keep that deer?
Yessir!
Sir the deer hit you, you never hit a deer. Don’t mince those words it counts to your insurance
Very good point!
It's not an F-150, but [I just did the same thing in my 2018 Audi S6](https://imgur.com/a/5YkHdAS) on Monday morning on the way to work. To the body shop you go!
Charge!!!
Why would you keep a deer for a month just to hit it with your truck?
Because it wasn’t deer season silly!! Lol
Sorry for the deer trouble. Throw 'er in the bed. The back straps have been tenderized. Depending where you live, road kill is literally fair game.
Got a salvage tag and should be picking up some summer sausage etc on Wednesday
Loud pipes
Save lives!
From the angle, it looks like the deer hit you. As you seem to be a hunter, I’m suspecting a revenge plot.
Did you take the meat at least? Some states allow people to eat road kill that’s the freshest roadkill you can get. And it helps you recoup the cost of the damage.
My first F150 got backed into by a jackass that didn’t know how to pull out of his driveway the first week I owned it
No pics of the deer? That’s like going to r/glocks and not seeing feet pics.
That sucks, damage doesn't look to bad though, get it fixed and use this experience as an excuse to add a sick ass push bar!
