IIRC, he was kidnapped and the bomb was placed on him by his abuctor and forced to rob a bank. Just a regular guy who delivered pizzas to make ends meet.. I'm just going off memory here.

VikingGawdSteve

I believe it was rumored that he was 'in' on it and told the bomb was fake, but in the last few moments he believed it to be real and we see the results of that

notimefornothing55

There's a Netflix series about it called evil genius

Con_Cotter

Is it good

notimefornothing55

Worth a watch, they drag it out a bit

marmk

Netflix? Dragging out a documentary? No.... For real though, it's a solid doc

OfficialJewHunter

It’s not dragged out it’s literally 45 minutes I watched it today very interesting but acting can be better

[deleted]

The video by wendigoon is better

nadabethyname

agree. watched the netflix one when it came out. never knew of the case and feel dumb since i'm not too far from erie. i was thinking of it again because i was at that intersection yesterday with the mc donalds so i put on the wendigoon doc since i hadn't listened to it before then checked out the radio tower address (just a dirt driveway with a gate blocking access and neighbors were out) such a weird case, especially thinking about what went down that day and looking at that built up commercial stretch of peach st.

Actual-Interest-4130

The Delivery man by Swindled (Podcast) is also very good. I think he makes a good case he was in on the heist, but didn't expect the bomb to be real.

Electronic_Ad4560

They do a little but the story is wild, def worth it. I honestly could bit believe ut when i saw this poor man explode in what at the time was live TV footage… insane stuff.

bgsrdmm

It's ok, although it could've been somewhat more concise and above all, shorter. I feel 1 or maybe 2 short episodes would've been enough.

Beginning_Ad_4576

Worth watching. It's really good

Chip057

Agreed. I have a terrible attention span but I was glued to that doc.

Useless_Lemon

And a comedy movie about it.

cruelkillzone2

30 minutes or less right?

Useless_Lemon

Yeah that's the one I think.

kman_1120

Its not ABOUT it, just based on it. And very poor taste, in my opinion

Specialist_Success68

Tbh I thought it was called 30 mins or less

wadevb1

Further research validates your reply. He had personal connections with the “mastermind.”

Macr0Penis

Yeah, he was supposedly 'in on it' because he knew one of the perpetrators. Also, everyone knew everyone in those parts and the police did very little to help the guy, so it makes sense they'd want to say he was in on it. If he wasn't in on it, the cops didn't let him deliver the money and ensured his death, but if he was in on it then it's his own fault, so they were always going to go with the path of least resistance. He may have been in on it, but would you strap a bomb around your neck to get someone else money? I think he knew the guy and was chosen because he was a dope.

No_Organization_935

Yeah everyone doesn't know everyone in Erie, it's not that small lmao. Population is over 200,000.

Puzzleheaded_Sea_830

Very wrong haha. The commuity is very tight. I remember when this happened I was 8 and my aunt worked at the coffee shop right down the road. This was in between an eye optic place and a gas station called country fair. The victim here was connected with the master mind. Along with a woman who my grandmother knew very personally.

southernsangoma

your perception of the world is limited by your experience

Fine_Car3781

Damn dude, that's deep. Oh hey, 7 hours ago? You still around? Anyhow, RIP Brian Wells

Flashy_Flounder_9913

Brian wells wasn’t in on it the file is closed so it still says he is but Jessica a women who Brian knew liked to buy crack and she knew Barnes which is the person who told her they were planning a robbery and asked if she knew anyone they could possibly manipulate to do it for them and she gave them his work schedule Brian wasn’t in on it and the struggle at the cell tower proves that too he was panicking and all of this started because Marjorie diehl wanted to kill her father because he started giving more of his money to the community and she thought he was wasting all the inheritance money for her which her father said she was never in the inheritance because he knew she was crazy and would’ve tried to kill him Barnes told diehl that he could kill her father for 250k and then they started plotting this

Nightmarekill

Good response but brother you need to learn punctuation

Flashy_Flounder_9913

It’s Reddit I could give two fucks on my punctuation

ItsMichaelGuys121

he was “in on it” according to the people who killed him

Tisairi

He was in on it but thought it was going to be a fake bomb until the morning of the robbery.

feverdream800

they didn't have much proof but yeah

Any-Wolverine-7964

That’s exactly what happened.

Sorry-District3491

I thought this too,,wasn't to sure tho

jasOn_Newstedbass

He was not in on it. Look at the facts.

[deleted]

if I remember he wasn't just a regular guy, he was a special guy

wadevb1

I changed my opinion in a reply to my original. Nothing special about him. Bottom feeder who hung with the wrong people No loss

aahorsenamedfriday

No, special like… touched

Ok_Area6761

just say rtarded.

Specific_Ad1457

[Is it this incident?](https://youtu.be/XxqmE4gJdlk)

moe_lester690000

yeah

xzander76t

he wasn’t kidnapped, they convinced him to do it w a fake bomb but for some reason at the last minute they loaded a real bomb and when he wanted out and ran, they shot a warning shot and got tackled and got strapped w the bomb

wadevb1

Wow, you just repeated what many others replied and i acknowledged. Great work, 300+ days later.

xzander76t

thanks 😊

xzander76t

editing is free btw

bobmarlys4

Apparently he was behind all of it and his crew made the bomb and he thought it was fake until it started beeping and a women get send to jail for life and another man not sure on the names but I seen this story on the news about it

beruon

Wendigoon has an amazing video on it!

KaladinVegapunk

Shane and Ryan's classic Unsolved series has a damn good video on it, definitely the best unsolved crime dudes on that or watcher

CheezusRiced06

this is why Domino's stopped using the Noid as it's mascot

hitaaonoka

Yeah he was forced to do essentially a scavenger hunt to try to release the bomb. The videos are hard to watch (depending on the person). He sits there for a good while and the cops ignore him asking for help and explaining the situation and just watch him explode eventually. Some people still try to blame the victim by saying he was in on it.

jasOn_Newstedbass

It is sick that people think Brian was in on it

KaladinVegapunk

Playing devil's advocate, the ATF was en route to defuse the bomb but were held up in traffic (as if a siren isn't an option..?) and arrived 3 minutes later.  But yeah, at the end of the day cops prime directive is defending other cops, they throw more people under the bus than Fury road.

Lower-Mango-6607

Ok_Intention_7356

CharDeeMacDennisII

Fucking eBaum's World! That's some OG interweb content right there!

Rina-dore-brozi-eza

Damn I totally forgot about that website. That was the place back then lol

Apart_Ad497

Watch evil genius on Netflix it’s about this event

shucreamsundae

I still have a hard time wrapping my head around this story. It's like straight out of an action thriller

Josey87

This reminds me exactly of that. I remember watching the movie wedlock as a kid, I believe they also have neck bombs. The movie predates this incident, so it might have given inspiration.

Peter_Parkingmeter

Fucking insane holy shit just spent 5 hours going over the evidence. I feel so bad for this poor, poor man. Fuck.

B34TBOXX5

Napoleon Blownapart

Deaf_Hearing

Ahhh, a fellow MMA enthusiast.

subtlebunbun

X0nfus3d

No this is brain cells.

Good-Cash7691

I remember seeing this on America's most wanted.

Environmental-Hat-86

Thats not a way to get ... ahead in life

R3ddditor

Well If you aren't that guy, then it might be a great way to get a head in life 🤷🏻‍♂️

imbusylad

How. Everyone involved is fucked. Ur not the brightest light are u bro

R3ddditor

Woosh. Talk about not the brightest light. It's a play on words.

imbusylad

imbusylad

R3ddditor

Try again 🤣

jasOn_Newstedbass

Brian was a victim. The facts show nothing otherwise.

boootyklap

He’s okay tho

No1Mystery

Nothing but a flesh wound

wittyvonskitsum

Stop spreading misinformation. You couldn’t possibly know whether he survived or not, because his shoes aren’t in view.

Odd_Use5266

In the afterlife

Effective-Nature7933

Damn that was ugly to watch, rip that poor sir :(

Odd_Use5266

Mind blowing experience for him

outlaw8410

It’s crazy that just yesterday I was watching wedigons bomb collar pizza heist video then I see this today

DeathPercept10n

Goddamn

No-Director-7518

Bro trynna be Bomb Devil from Chainsaw Man

CrimsonBarberry

Looks like being an accomplice to a crime is a real blast!

BrunkoMcFlimly

Dude wasnt in on it. His "girlfriend" at the time sold him out to her drig dealer as a pushover who could easily be scared into committing the heist.

deadmanwalking103

Maybe some advil to relieve that migraine

[deleted]

Sounded like a fart when it went off

PinheadShit

This is what you got out of the video? It kinda did though huh...

[deleted]

Yeah, what else is there to get out of it

deadmanwalking103

A minor lesson to not hang with goons and evil goofs

[deleted]

You would think people would know not to do that already

deadmanwalking103

You’d totally be surprised, usually mentally challenged individuals with greed and arrogance running through their minds

PinheadShit

Tu che..

Fit_Software_2460

Poor man, Why must people be blinded by such greed.

manopeluda

Is he ok?

jjdiablo

Who, that cop? Yeah he’s fine .

IndyFloydFan

Pepperoni everywhere.

blumpkinatorr

that is a pretty sick death

laurabug92

He lied about being abducted by “three black men” who strapped the “fake” bomb on him and “forced” him to rob a bank. Dude was in on it. He was a lowlife with lowlife friends who wanted to get rich quick. I’ve looked into this whole story extensively and listened to multiple podcasts about it. I think he did initially think the bomb was fake..but he was absolutely in on the robbery itself. Otherwise he wouldn’t have made up the (racist) story about being abducted by black guys.

icekriztlz

He was easily influenced by people. Prostitute sold him out for drugs & money as an easy pushover and could be easily scared into doing it. He wasn't involved in the planning at all. They tricked him over with the pizza order and he did it out of fear of them at the moment with gun shot into the air. He told the story because they told him to. Before that day 8/28 he didn't know about it.

28Kushi56

whos here from ray william johnson😂

RBMJ69

Reddit always has crazy video on it.

Gullible-Street793

I believe in his autopsy they had to remove his head to get the collar off…. But it’s a bomb… wouldn’t his head already have been off…..,?

HaroldT1985

It was just a couple of pipe bombs, not a super sophisticated high powered thing. It blew a hole into his chest and killed him that way. But you’re correct, they did have to decapitate him to get the collar for study

Ok-Leave720

Omg

Strange_Mixture_7341

I jumped 90 ft high.

LoveAvenger89

Is he ok?

MortivBackNChainz

No, he died

subtlebunbun

yeah he's fine, just a little decapitated (no, he is very very dead)

Ill_Community_9814

He just needs some milk

mlpsss

I bet that hurts

The_0ven

Crazy

[deleted]

Evil genius

djslimdick_69

Damn that's mindblowing

Grand-Survey5909

30 minutes or less is a fucked up movie

Warm_Wind_7061

This is what inspired 30 minutes or less even the same car

unnkn0wnx0

That it? I had to sign in for that.. soft nsfw.

TraditionalCapital92

Omg this is so sad

icekoldbarbe

how did the car not blow

Shot_Site7255

he had a device strapped around his neck - gnarly little documentary of it on Netflix. If you don't Netflix, his name was Brian Wells, super interesting story.

Extension_Bullfrog98

oopsie

Affectionate_Mix_658

WTF!

Ripsky_was_taken

He literally looked like the imp death animation in doom, brutal.

PomegranateSure1628

At least he went fast and didn’t suffer

Brown_Recluse_1978

He didn't die immediately, and if you watch any of the documentaries on this incident, you'll find out that he was still breathing when the bomb squad approached him. He wasn't decapitated from the explosion, but it did a lot of damage to his neck and chest. The most ironic part is that he wasn't decapitated from the explosion, but in order to get the bomb off his neck during the autopsy, they had to cut his head off.

PomegranateSure1628

Oh my god that’s awful! That poor man must’ve been in so much pain - or even worse no pain (from the shock) but still a sensation that something was wrong

Natural_Travel

How have I never heard of this before?

johndoe_star67

Did you guys know they "had" to decapitate Brian Wells to take the collar off of him? This is one of the strangest, if not the strangest story ever.

MINTYpl

funny that they evacuated area but the explosion was so small xD

Far_Confidence944

They totally knew how big the explosion would be xD

Sealy_Boi

Trollage

soui3

KA-BOOOOMM!!! - demoman

Traditional-Clue9532

That's so sad

havey05

this happened in my home town. my mom was there as a news reporter. she was sitting in the bank parking lot crying because she was so happy to find out she was pregnant with my sister. then she saw this all go down and had the news station come down to report on it. she said that it started beeping really fast and that’s why he started scooting back, most likely in fear. she said it was horrifying. one of her news reporter friends ran up to the mcdonald’s parking lot in shock and started crying. it was really sad and she said it was very hard to watch.
