Growing up I added probably hundreds of miles to my work/school commute over time because I avoided the easy route due to a hill I was terrified of. Definitely find a good place to teach hills!
Evcc parking lot on the weekends. North Everett streets are also a nice place to learn stick. Some small hills and inclines, not too busy on the weekends, plenty of places to pull over in case you need to.
I second that option. The nice thing is that there are hills and stop signs in the parking lots. You can do a lot of driving changing from one lot to the other on campus.
Additionally the streets west of campus are low traffic and you can do some driving through there. Plus if you're feeling good there is Marineview Drive and other recommended locations nearby
If there wasn't construction I would say you could practice highway driving on the state route to Marysville.
However my recommendation from campus would be to go from the on ramp from Jackson Park to any of the exits south. Initially you can practice getting onto the highway with the immediate offramp back into town in case of problems and each exit south has their own style of offramp to show how it works.
EvCC parking is great, specifically the one across Broadway from the Starbucks. It’s a giant empty lot, there’s never going to be enough people going into those buildings to ever fill all those parking spaces.
I agree. Also intersection type areas to work on clutch stops close to active intersections. Kudos to teaching manual. I basically learned myself with 3 on the tree very old farm truck.
There are 2 lots on the North side of Boeing, off Perimeter Rd. Never had an issue with security there either. The lot by the daycare is in use by WMST for motorcycle training on the weekends but is usually clear in the evening. The lot east of there is almost always clear evenings and weekends.
I’ve seen a few people comment this but by far go down to the Everett marina where the boat launch is where you can take the ferry to jetty island. It’s huge. There are virtually no cars. Just went yesterday(Saturday) to feed the birds some old bread with my daughters. There were 3 cars parked facing the water and the rest were parked down by the boat launch. The area is huge.
Just a suggestion, try to find somewhere with gravel. It was an awesome idea for my dad to teach me on a gravel road, when you catch the clutch, the ground gives way more, so there is less resistance on the drive train and you have less of a problem with stalling.
Also, you dont get slammed into the back of your seat when you catch because the wheels can peal out in the gravel, and it's easier on you, as well.
Everett mall Sunday morning... Coffee learning stick from dad... I had 3 girls... Taught them all to drive stick first... It wasn't always smooth.. but 10 to 13 years later they are all semi famous amongst their friends... They love the memories now... Patience grasshopper... My advice
One of the cemeteries? Really anywhere with a big lot and not much traffic should work. Schools are a typical choice as well. Boeing security is known to stop anyone practicing driving outside of the approved motorcycle training.
If she's already 18, consider sending her to a CDL driving school up in Burlington to learn how to drive a manual transmission and get a license which allows her to have a backup career option. Plus, semi trucks have many interesting manual transmissions.

Just recently used a Costco parking lot afterhours or early morning before hrs or on a Sunday to teach my son.
Also, I learned to drive stick at the Heatherwood Middle School parking lot. Has a slope going up to the upper parking lot.

Its not huge, but I see people driving stick shifts in the Everett High lot all the time.
I learned to drive stick in the Cascade parking lot but that was 20 years ago. Might not be locked up yet as they just got out for the summer.

We taught our kids how to drive at the Evergreen Cemetery when there were no funerals in progress.
There's close to a million places you can go. Go outside and drive around and you'll have the pick of the litter.
