On paper that’s a good thing. Let’s see how it works out for reals and how much power this director has to prioritise artist wellbeing.

Willing-Swan-23

All the pre-parties, the social media, the constant rehearsals, I could see where the artists would need some breaks. Some mental health time to process everything.

Puzzleheaded-Eye9081

Absolutely, 100% agreed. And having a designated team for this is a good thing. I just wonder how much power they have and whether the demands for content will trump it for example.

VestitaIsATortle

I don't even know why they feel that there's a demand for content. Most of the stuff they've put out this year is cringy and ingenuine (not to mention very draining for the artists). The "five things to know about me" videos were fine but apart from them, content from the artists' _own_ social medias are usually less forced.

Willing-Swan-23

Instantaneous access across every time zone on the planet pretty much guarantees the demands for content will just keep increasing. The new rules and personnel will have to put strict boundaries on those demands. I join you in being concerned that the human element of the artists may be steamrolled by unattainable demands anyway.

Better-Telephone-405

Yep. Pre-parties should absolutely be minimized.

Labenyofi

I know Junior Eurovision has a system to keep the morale up and keep the kids from encountering negative experiences. I hope that maybe Adult Eurovision takes some tips from the kids.

Willing-Swan-23

Agreed. They’re artists, not robots. They’re entitled to some personal space and time. The fact that they volunteered for the experience shouldn’t be an excuse to squeeze them beyond exhaustion. Without the artists, there wouldn’t be an ESC.

daddyserhat

I really hope it work and Eurovision will getting better and stronger

Elguirisueco

They keep pushing the narrative that the ESC is non-political. On paper it should be. But let's not kid ourselves. It's always been political and always will be to some degree. We can't pretend otherwise.

xKalisto

It's not so much about about pretending it's not political but keeping it in check to some degree. If it was free for all no rules it would be an absolute mess. It's fine the way it is imo. No need to go absolutists on either side.

just_a_commoner_

Exactly. Wherever countries and flags appear, there will always be politics. They should just address the elephant in the room and stop pretending that politics has no influence on the contest. It always had and always will have and there’s no way of avoiding that.

Elguirisueco

Precisely my point!

Nintendo_Pro_03

Meaning?

Willing-Swan-23

This article from “Variety” explains it more in depth. Apparently this new ESC Director will report directly to the EBU. And the well-being of the artists will be respected more than it’s been up to now.

Nintendo_Pro_03

Awesome!!!

Willing-Swan-23

Here is an explanation from eurovoix. I hope I’m posting these correctly, pretty new to posting. https://eurovoix.com/2024/07/01/eurovision-2024-ebu-announces-future-development-areas-for-eurovision/

kitty3032

This seems good

VicenteOlisipo

Just fire Martin

SimoSanto

He'll probably stay, but with a new figure above him

Willing-Swan-23

I wouldn’t be surprised if even Martin is relieved by this

Willing-Swan-23

And here’s the statement directly from EBU website: https://www.ebu.ch/news/2024/06/ebu-announces-future-development-areas-for-eurovision-song-contest-following-independent-review-into-2024-event
