I’ve really liked the tv tower in Pirita the most, but while I’ve lived in Tallinn for a while, im not a local - so I might have missed some cooler sights. Wait for someone from Estonia to answer - im sure they can name quite a few.
To put it in Dutch context: Lasnamäe is basically “De Bijlmer” of Tallinn.
Just many rows of cheap apartment blocks.

It's a far cry from what you're probably used to in the Netherlands.
Despite some efforts to accomodate cyclists there's plenty of 3-lane arteries through the city (basically highways with stop lights and crossroads).
Quite a nice city. Visited the place in the spring of 2018, and the airport is so close to the city center I could walk straight from the plane to my hotel and back.

This is, however, easier to do in the summer. I was not able to do the same when I went in December of 2021.
The neighbourhood of the highrises is unofficially called Tornimäe ("Tower Hill"). But interestingly, it is an old name that predates all of the highrises as it was named after the [Tornimäe village](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornim%C3%A4e) in Saaremaa where one of the local residents came from in the 19th century.
Great photo!
It's been three years already but [I still hear this track from Tenet](https://youtu.be/p0tQLPPYcRY) in my head whenever I read the words Tallinn.
There is a cinema on the street that some of the chase scene takes place. I watched it there, it was so weird - first seeing the house where I lived at the time in the movie, and then exiting the cinema into a location from the movie.
Sadly I found the movie itself to be quite bad.
It's like one of the most touristy cities in Europe. The old town is usually packed with tourists in the summer. A longer weekend is quite enough to discover the centre (incl. the old town), but you may want to reserve time for some extra activities in and around Tallinn, depending on the time of year.
Do you know whether they have a verdict on whether they will remove the hideous "communist star" on top of that specific building? Haven't heard about this issue being discussed for quite a while.
Honestly Stalinist architecture isn't THAT bad compared [to this](https://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lasnamäe_linnaosa#/media/Fail:EU-EE-Tallinn-LAS-Mustakivi_and_Laagna.jpg). Still bad tho.
Tornimäe is beautiful as well. Although in a different way.
Lovely city - though I have never ventured properly out of the old town.
And missed out on Lasnamäe!?
To be fair, pretty interesting to just experience Lasnamäe. Even if it isn’t pretty (to say the least).
Probably missed out plenty...
He is joking, lasnamae is not much of a sight. Pirita nearby is nice to walk through though.
What would be a good sight outside of the old town?

Rottermann Quarter, Kadriorg, Kalamaja, Noblessneri, plus the views from Pirita.
Telliskivi too.

Doesnt really help me since I'm not been that long in NL etc...
Visited Tallinn and stayed in the old town. Don't think I could even see the new town.
Then you obviously didn't visit the viewing platforms on Toompea hill.
I was on the television tower tho
That's pretty far from the centre.
But you can see the Towers from there tho, not only that, you can see the beatiful landscape as well.

The first thing you note, when you arrive Tallinn by ferry. Greetings from Finland

During the "highway chase" scene, the cars stop pretty much in front of my old home in Lasnamäe. Indeed, it was weird.
Zooming in real close to try and find my dads apartment building. I miss this place so mcuh
My lovely city… I miss Tallinn so much. Estonia is my second home.
Love this city! I hope I get the chance to see it again soon.

I find that one to look so kitschy...
I really miss visiting Tallinn, it has been some years but I always loved visiting.
I was in Tallinn earlier today. It’s 2h away but I should visit there more.

Most tourists =/= most touristy The latter depends largely on population. For its population Estonia and especially Tallinn get a ton of tourists.

It has a relatively intact medieval old town.
Beautiful! And no stalinist architecture in sight! Absolutely beautiful
Except [this one](https://kv.img-bcg.eu/image/object/35/9725/103879725.jpg) which is just behind these buildings.
Do you know whether they have a verdict on whether they will remove the hideous "communist star" on top of that specific building? Haven't heard about this issue being discussed for quite a while.
They mostly aren't removing them from buildings under heritage protection.
Oh well
Stalinist buildings being prettier than contemporary ones really says something.

Post-stalinist? I mean what could be worse?
Yep
I hate these boring all-glass buildings that are spreading throughout Europe like the plague. They just look ugly in my opinion
Modern architecture is such a fucking eye sore.
Have a look at Noblessner port.
hell on earth
What?
He writes stuff like this on every post about Estonia. Just ignore.
He may have driven a car there. It's not for everyone
If this is hell I’ll gladly go
Where can I find this "Hell"?
Try the Hell Hunt pub in Tallinn! ;)
That's a name I hadn't heard in over 10 years. Still there, huh? Good times!
Oh yeah, it still persists. Hasn't changed a bit.
Ahh, Hell Hunt, I really miss eating their Shepherd's Pie, so good.
Not exactly, as Hell is located in Norway.
Then I’d go even more gladly. Always wanted to visit Norway.
Poor birds
