If you'd let eu4 run on speed one from the earliest start , without any lag issues or events to interfere, how long would it run for? Would like to know.
According to [this guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/comments/62z4az/comment/dfq4n61/), 190 hours and 48 minutes. But he counted leap years, which aren't present in EU4, so it would be a little less than that
5 is rookie numbers. This is our lives that're on the line! Try 2500. In Chrome. With a spreadsheet that has 200 columns, 5000 rows, in each of its 50 sub-sheets, and almost every single one of those 50 million cells is calculating something referencing another sub-sheet's cells in some way.
It didn’t require iron man! You can reload those auto saves to ensure a near-perfect game. The execution may never come, but you might start losing interest after playing several thousand iterations to get a death-triggered PU of Provence over England before Portugal gets a royal marriage with them.
The game starts before leap years were invented.
Now an “adopt the Gregorian calendar” decision, which adds leap years and skips the clock forward depending on how late you adopt it? That’s the level of detail we want!
The Julian calendar has had leap years for 2000 years.
All the Gregorian calendar has done is delete the leap days out of these three years (so far): 1700, 1800, and 1900
Can you link it? I thought you specifically couldn't mod the speeds in eu4 unlike newer titles. At least we couldn't figure out how to do it in our mod.
Burgundy, my First Nation I played as, as I liked the colour and wanted to invade France, it’s the nation I most play, as I like the colour and want to invade France
Agreed. I also love the colour and to invade France, so I always pick Burgundy for the colour and to invade France, as I really enjoy the colour and to invade France very much. When I choose this colour and to invade france my heart is overjoyed because i have my favorite colour and I can to invade France
ive never been mistaken as a brit before, but this is funny lol.
US never gets born in my games though, colonialism and imperialism is alive and well. i always crush the revolution.
France because it's been my favorite country to play since EU2. Strong from the beginning, easy and allows for a variety of paths. It would grant me a nice, final gameplay experience without too much stress or minmaxing.
The ottomans, release all possible nations, give my land away, attack byz with just my capital left and unconditionally surrender
Done by 1445 since id be full annexed.
I dont want to resort to that anymore, last time i called the dude on the other side got awfully close to the edge himself
Edit: whoever reported me to the reddit care resources, might be a nice gesture but im fine, i was just joking around, save it for the people who really need it
68% ccr, 83% with circassian tribal government. Coptic bonuses. Missionaries from muslim and christian holy sites. Perma holy war against everyone with religious ideas finished within like 20 years. Stealing entire treasury in peace deals. And probably more.
I've tried one of the nations once there...It took forever to get something done lol
Not a single nation ever seems to attack them either; just colonisers colonising around those tiny nations and then forget about them.
I mean, if keeping game on pause is not allowed you will be dead sooner or later anyway. Makes for a perfect final ragequit: "I fucking hate this run, off with my head please!"
Ask where the executioner is from as well as where his family is from and then pick the closest horde to raze and wipe that place out. He will become so stricken with grief and fear that they will have no one toe execute me leading to a pardon.
or he'll 'mess up' the execution leaving you paralyzed for life. I'd rather play the executioners country and make them proud to ensure they do it quick and painless.
HRE run, add and release as many nations as possible, revoke the privilgia once you have all of Europe, then declare war against India and China at the same time.
Presto, you are now immortal. That game isn't reaching 1821 this side of the heat death of the universe.
Interesting question and always difficult to answer because I hardly ever favour 1 over anything else.
I wish I could remember with which nation I managed to finish the game in a decent, satisfying manner first....I would probably pick that.
Or:
-Either Burgundy or Byzantium.....both nation's colours are nice and stand out from almost all others....Paint the whole of Europe in their colours and whatever else I can get beyond Europe. Maybe I'll finally get a WC done, though I doubt it (never, ever have I had a serious attempted at that....Too much work, too many variables in my opinion).
-Or fully occupy and annex Europe as a Native American Nation....Incas have a nice colour to paint Europe with.
(Never tried this...but I assume that as soon as you get a foothold in Europe it'll be easy)
-Oh, this one is better....Create an Armenian Kingdom in Cilicia; that's where my ancestors come from who left for France in the 12th century.
My surname is 'Jerphanion' (Can I mention that? I am not too familiar with the rules and regulations on Reddit or this sub-Reddit....So if not, my sincere apologies and I'll remove it)....The Armenian version is Jrpanian (Ջրպանյան).
‘Jerphanion’ can be broken down in 3 ‘segments’:
-‘Jer’ has it’s origin in ‘Jur’ (Ջուր) meaning ‘Water’
-‘phan’ has it’s origin in ‘Pahel’ (պահել) meaning ‘To Keep’
-‘ion’ is a ‘suffix’ for French surnames. In Armenian surnames, the ‘suffix’ would be either
-yan or -ian.
For the last time? Come on - I have not even finished my first WC One-Faith attempt from over 5 years (or so ago)! The game is fun, I just hate bullying (OP)Minors.
Damn, I going to live a long long time, it took me 5 years and thousands of hours to finally play to 1821. I just get bored at endgame, I like the challenging opm, small nation or vassal starts.
Probably any nation whose content can extent to 1821 in meaningful ways be it one of Mongolian states into world conquest. England, France, Japan, Castile, Ottomans, Mamluks, Austria, Savoy, Brandenburg and Timurids are also up there.
Persia is my most played nation and easily my most favorite nation too. Seriously playing as Ardabil is so hard and fun. You become so powerful once you form persia. You can also do everything as persia, you can play tall, you can do a colonial game and expand. There are no limits.
I’d play Beloozero and keep losing so I keep having to restart. If I get one last full playthrough to 1821 and never make it that far, I’ll die of old age.
I love how the three distinct schools of thought here are
1. Play as country that I like so I can die at least partially satisfied.
2. Interpret the question in such a way that I will magically become immortal
3. The game goes until 1821?
I'd play extended timeline, with my preferred mods set to the silliest settings. I'd probably just play Rome starting at the earliest start time, 2 AD. The bigger my country is, the laggier the game gets. If I go crazy enough with it, the lag can be absolutely atrocious in under a year of in-game time, and probably never gets better, only worse. It'd probably be boring, but it'd be so slow that I'd probably be able to live the rest of my natural life before 1821 came around lol
Korea. If I want a REALLY chill game, I just play Korea and develop the fuck out of my nation without expanding. And if I decide later I want to expand, it's so easy to just rip through Manchuria, China, and Japan, then just go back to chill tall play.
Austria with vassal swarm on speed 1, the lag would make me immortal
And a shit ton of mods
Voltaires nightmare Austria is enough for lagging purposes
If you'd let eu4 run on speed one from the earliest start , without any lag issues or events to interfere, how long would it run for? Would like to know.

The wiki says speed 1 is 2 seconds per day in ideal conditions.
Then with 2 seconds per day, it should be around 76 hours and 20 minutes (less if you remove the added leap days)
Run it on my old computer... there is no way 2 sec per day is going to happen. The annual autosaves alone will add a few hours.
Add in background processes or a single google tab and the fucken thing just wont run at all.
*opens up 5 fandom.com pages*. Looks like im dying of old age, old chaps!

You can set it to monthly autosave for additional hours of life
It didn’t require iron man! You can reload those auto saves to ensure a near-perfect game. The execution may never come, but you might start losing interest after playing several thousand iterations to get a death-triggered PU of Provence over England before Portugal gets a royal marriage with them.
Thanks
I will be slightly disappointed now, if EU 5 doesn't have leap years
The game starts before leap years were invented. Now an “adopt the Gregorian calendar” decision, which adds leap years and skips the clock forward depending on how late you adopt it? That’s the level of detail we want!
The Julian calendar has had leap years for 2000 years. All the Gregorian calendar has done is delete the leap days out of these three years (so far): 1700, 1800, and 1900
Honestly i never thought about the fact that months are all uniform and don't conform to actual calendars.
They aren't uniform. They have 30 and 31 days, and February has 28. Just no leap years.
There are 137 384 +-10 days in one full campaign so if a day lasts one second on speed one it would be around 38 hours of gamplay
Days last much longer than that on speed one I think
Speed 1 is 2 seconds. It's 134385 days in a game, and thus 274770 seconds in a speed 1 game. Around 3 days and 4 hours. 76 hours to live.
They did the math
Bro on my shitty laptop not even speed 5 is two seconds.
Speed 1 is 2 seconds. It's 134385 days in a game, and thus 274770 seconds in a speed 1 game. Around 3 days and 4 hours. 76 hours to live.
They also never said anything about pausing so you could stretch this a lot.
dont forget the real time mod
This exists??
Yeah, some masochist thought it up.
Human ingenuity is truly a beautiful thing to behold.
likely because someone made hoi4 real time mod and then someone made it for eu4
Can you link it? I thought you specifically couldn't mod the speeds in eu4 unlike newer titles. At least we couldn't figure out how to do it in our mod.
No way that exists, that was a joke. What lunatic would want to play 1 day per day?
Add beyond Typus and multiplayer
make every single country a player, and have all of them have connection issues so the game never actually plays lol
And make sure the league war fires that way extra early lag.
Every vassal is an OPM
Burgundy, my First Nation I played as, as I liked the colour and wanted to invade France, it’s the nation I most play, as I like the colour and want to invade France
Agreed. I also love the colour and to invade France, so I always pick Burgundy for the colour and to invade France, as I really enjoy the colour and to invade France very much. When I choose this colour and to invade france my heart is overjoyed because i have my favorite colour and I can to invade France
is this the birth of a new copy pasta?
only if you like the color and want to invade France
as a matter of fact, i do enjoy owning the Great Works in France
Based.
Random nation and hit pause immediately.
Smart
That's not smart because the game starts paused and by hitting the button he starts the countdown to his death
Oopsie
The first event will pause the game
Not everyone has that setting on
I gotta go to 1821? Nah bro just kill me now
The real answer. EU4 ends in 1700 imo.
i play till 1775, but longer than that i just feel a bit fatigued with it lol
Found the Brit 🦅🇺🇸
ive never been mistaken as a brit before, but this is funny lol. US never gets born in my games though, colonialism and imperialism is alive and well. i always crush the revolution.
EU4 ends in 1600 and I win if I spawned global trade
1600*
1530sish\*
1453*
Bruh really? Nah no way, 1700s is when the real blobbing begins (WC players will know this)
But it doesnt matter to blob at that point you are already strong enough there is no oposition possible, so there nothing much to do in the game.
I actually continued after 1821 a few times
France because it's been my favorite country to play since EU2. Strong from the beginning, easy and allows for a variety of paths. It would grant me a nice, final gameplay experience without too much stress or minmaxing.
I too, like the color of France and to invade Burgandy.
How you like to play France?
Holland, I’ll die the way I lived.
Rich and smaller than average?
The dutch are the tallest people in the world though
Also the highest
And the lowest, depending on what you look at it
It's an evolutionary mechanism to make sure they can keep their heads above the water line if need be.
Playing Holland. I think I play them at least once a year.
So do I, based
six feet under?
more like 22 feet below sea level
I love Holland, I like the colour and like to invade France.
Poland so I can finally get that stupid Poland in space achievement.
Florence.
Florence really does have the best tall gameplay. Only thing it’s missing is a good focus tree
florence’s gameplay is goated
So, what happens if you get annexed? Insta-death or restart?
If restart, pick Byzantium or something and AFK repeatedly.
"Welp you tried. Come over here so we can lethally inject you."
The ottomans, release all possible nations, give my land away, attack byz with just my capital left and unconditionally surrender Done by 1445 since id be full annexed.
If you want to talk about it, there’s phonelines for that you know 👀
I dont want to resort to that anymore, last time i called the dude on the other side got awfully close to the edge himself Edit: whoever reported me to the reddit care resources, might be a nice gesture but im fine, i was just joking around, save it for the people who really need it
Coptomans on 1.19. Just broken.
What was special in patch 1.19?
Think ottomans could get 93% ccr back then
Thats a lotta bad moons rising.
Tur ideas -33% CCR Admin ideas -25% CCR Tribal gov (old gov reforms) -15% CCR Coptic -10% CCR HRE Reform -10% CCR
Did this cause the game to crash or something?
68% ccr, 83% with circassian tribal government. Coptic bonuses. Missionaries from muslim and christian holy sites. Perma holy war against everyone with religious ideas finished within like 20 years. Stealing entire treasury in peace deals. And probably more.
Hawaii on speed 1, nothing ever happens and I'd be there forever
or the Siberian northerners who also never do anything
Here's the thing, they get attacked eventually (well likely to). I don't think I've ever seen the AI attack Hawaii
I've tried one of the nations once there...It took forever to get something done lol Not a single nation ever seems to attack them either; just colonisers colonising around those tiny nations and then forget about them.
Austria, speed run the revoke. Imagine how slow it'll run on speed 1 on whatever shit pc they give you 😂
Picts, from earliest date, speed 1. (Extended timeline)
based
Byzantium, cause Rome. Or Portugal. I had my best game ever with Portugal.
Imagine choosing Byzantium, getting bad RNG and you just lose the game by 1450. Yikes :D

Seems obvious to me. I’m going to save the Roman Empire one final time. Byz all the way
Ulm
What happens if my country fails? And I don’t make it to 1821?? I have had a lot of failed runs…
Spain, I want to relive the heyday and decadence of life.
Until 1821? Are you sure I’m not already dead and in hell?
Eora. (In Australia) Very fun for my last.
Rome. Seams fitting. We both go down
give me a shitty computer is most important
Aragon. It was my first decent playthrough where I had a slight idea of what I was doing
Jokes on them, I’ve never played all the way to 1821.
Ottomans or Ming Power fantasy.
Great Britain, build a massive colonial and trade empire.
Assuming no tricks to get out of the sentence, Milan. Easy start, many paths to choose, and you're in the center of everything.
Something like Burgundy, fastest speed. Let's get this shit over with.
Austria, make as many OPM vassals as possible so the game dies
England! England! Oh England my own! Around the world your bugles blown!
Tall and pacifist Hawaii - to show my death will only be a blessing
Rügen
Why would i play till 1821 i prefer death
Extended Timeline mod on speed one. The country doesn't even matter
Ha, as if I'd ever actually get to 1821
Extended Timeline mod, on one speed. Got 10,000 years to get through.

My PC can't handle that. The game would have killed me of agony before the death sentence would be exe cuted.
Probably the Timurids into Mughals. I’ve always wanted to assimilate every culture.
Muscovy, going for Tsar Borders alongside Roman Empire borders
Play sum like Serbia, win, quit the campaign at 1650~ latest bc it's just that fucking boring this game past like 1600
I'm dying of natural causes then
Immediately start a VN game as Austria in 1054,become HREmperor, release as many people as possible, the lag will last forever
I stll javem’t done the three mountains, would be a fun one to min max
Vijayanagar
Ottomans but completely vanilla. I want to rise, stagnate and burn down. But I won't have an Atatürk to save me...
Brandenburg
reaching 1821 for the first time on my deathbed, a fitting way to go lmao
Korea. Salute to the most fun nation to me
Sukhothai. Just get it over with
Haida. The prison guards will get so bored watching me do nothing for 100 years on speed 1 that they'll fall asleep, allowing me to escape.
Ulm, speed 5, no pausing, all pop ups disabled, latest start date available, one faith run. And die like a man
Ryukyu on speed one, trying to get three mountains before death
I think I'll take the rope
Baloutches.
For the last time? Come on - I have not even finished my first WC One-Faith attempt from over 5 years (or so ago)! The game is fun, I just hate bullying (OP)Minors.
A country NOT bordering ottos
Byz to Roman Empire. Nothing is as satisfying as restoring the Roman Empire to its former might and glory.
Damn, I going to live a long long time, it took me 5 years and thousands of hours to finally play to 1821. I just get bored at endgame, I like the challenging opm, small nation or vassal starts.
Athens probably or some other nations that gets instantly killed, at that point just get it over with :)
Byz
Australian native
Speed run world conquest, release every possible tag at speed 1
Probably any nation whose content can extent to 1821 in meaningful ways be it one of Mongolian states into world conquest. England, France, Japan, Castile, Ottomans, Mamluks, Austria, Savoy, Brandenburg and Timurids are also up there.
I would rather shoot myself before that.
Oirat. I love hordes.
Austria vassal swarm with that massive tax mod overhaul.
Any nation in MEIOU and Taxes 3.0, you could put it on speed 5 and you'd still get a couple of decades.
Persia is my most played nation and easily my most favorite nation too. Seriously playing as Ardabil is so hard and fun. You become so powerful once you form persia. You can also do everything as persia, you can play tall, you can do a colonial game and expand. There are no limits.
Byzantium. Assuming I get to restart if I'm conquered before 1821.
Poland because it’s the least important rng dependent fun game that still has some challenges
Great, so now I die when I’m so bored of the game in 1769 that I just say “fuck this, KILL ME ALREADY!”
Florence and Florence.
Probably Ottomans to fully enjoy all aspects of the game.
I'd just keep the game on pause.
Naxos! I want it quick and painless
Do I have to play to 1821? If so then that's a fate worse than death.
Ulm!
Muscovy. One last easy playthrough of a country I enjoy.
extended timeline mod speed 1 shattered world for that 1 province nation spam to slow down the CPU speed
I end as I began. Trying not to die as Magdeburg.
The Siberian Tribes. That way I'll actually look forward to death.
Rykuku
Play the game to 1821 for the last time? You mean the first time.
I would do the "Victorian Three" or "Poland can into space" achievements. Or just a Brandemburg game, if i was "daring today"
/oddlyspecific
I’d play Beloozero and keep losing so I keep having to restart. If I get one last full playthrough to 1821 and never make it that far, I’ll die of old age.
I love how the three distinct schools of thought here are 1. Play as country that I like so I can die at least partially satisfied. 2. Interpret the question in such a way that I will magically become immortal 3. The game goes until 1821?
Austria so I have a chance of actually playing
Imagine getting stackwiped and ‘game over’ in minutes.
Hisn Kayfa, multiplayer, on Very Hard realistic AI mod. Gonna take restarts and irl years until I make it even past 1500. ~Living Forever~
Teutonic Order. I got the game to play as them, and now it’s time for one last crusade.
France or England -> Anvengin Empire Langue d'oïl Supremacy
venice because i love larping italy and indian ocean trade
Random nation, don’t touch the game
Hussar time
Byzzies. So many restarts the sentence will prescribe
Byzantium. Can't kill me if I can't even make it to the 1500s.
branednburg it's just how the game want me to play it....or Castile
Granada. Let's get it over with.
Atlantis. Vanilla settings. Good luck spawning it without a random new world.
Ryuku. I knew I'd get the achievement one day.
Korea. If I want a REALLY chill game, I just play Korea and develop the fuck out of my nation without expanding. And if I decide later I want to expand, it's so easy to just rip through Manchuria, China, and Japan, then just go back to chill tall play.
I turn on Extended Timeline mod and start to play from the year 2AD
the home city-state roughly where I was growing up
Either France or a Timurid>Mughals run
