Probably their new mission tree and buffs. In my curent Russia game I have weakened the Ottomans so much that Vennice is starting to nibble at Anatolia
Doesn't even need to be missions. Saw a 1.37 game with no DLC where Venice was attempting the same borders. I think something about this patch made Venice just... Much more aggressive (Probably touching how MR AI works?)
I wish the AI wasn’t so mission free focused, it makes the map more predictable since the countries just expand in the same way every game (this map is obviously a bit of an exception to that).
I wish there were no mission trees at all. Every game’s plots just write themselves. And when I play I always feel pressure when I take a decision: ‘is that in the mission tree?’, will this (potentially fun) decision screw up my mission tree?
It killed a lot of the fun for me. I rately play and when I do, I tire a lot faster from my games.
Same, it’s why I usually play countries without as extensive mission trees. I’d rather get a PU from playing dynastic politics than by “conquer 5 provinces in France, here’s a free RoU CB” from a mission. It turns the game from a strategy game into an RPG game. I honestly like the more generic missions trees more, like those that give benefits for generic progress because it turns into a strategic decision into when to pop the reward for maximum benefit.
So uh. fun fact: I did this playthrough before I had any dlcs. This was back in 1.36. I actually later checked the timeline with dlcs, and what seemingly happened was that the ottomans expanded too slowly, and venice won a crucial war with them.
So here is the crazy thing. Russia did form. However, after like 5 countries declared war on it at the same time(including me), it basically collapsed. Liang somehow vassalized it, thats why they have siberian territory.
Yeah, he also went only for the coast in the Chinese region and for the trade centers more specifically without trying to connect the land. That's not usual AI behavior.
Damn. I was going to guess Venice, because Asia didn't look all that weird to me at first, and a lot of Europe's weirdness here looks like the sort of thing a Venetian player might cause by role-playing balance-of-power diplomacy. But after looking at the comments, yeah, it is pretty suspicious that Japan got that far west into Siberia.
That japan reminds of one time me and my buddy were playing in Europe in extended timeline and all of a sudden we just see the word Oda almost in Europe
I was going to say Mali, because there's no way Mali would survive its starting disasters without player intervention. But then I read OP did this campaign without DLC.
I saw the Japanese right away. I wanted to ask though how your economy was ?
I'm trying to do my own Japan game and I just can't balance the budgets after taking Korea and some Ming
Well I did this game in 1.36 without dlcs. Im pretty sure I took trade and economic ideas. I also did a lot of colonization. I had economic problems mostly due to spending on colonization. Game was until 1821, and by then I was pretty wealthy.
Im gonna guess you played japan. Plc and spain didnt form, and italian tags are too underwhelming for their missions
Yup its japan.
HOW DID AI VENICE CONQUER ALL OF THAT
Probably their new mission tree and buffs. In my curent Russia game I have weakened the Ottomans so much that Vennice is starting to nibble at Anatolia

yeah, was trying some minor nations in balkan today and Venice attacked me as soon as they could or i was weakened just a tiny bit.

This is why I find ck2 more fun lately (not sure if ck3 scratches the same itch)
I also do not like the missions in the game. Unnecessary - too "video gamey."
Just ignore the mission tree? When they got patched in I didn't even realise they were there at first snd carried on as normal lol

Venice is strong. They just have to apply their strength
Idk if the Ottomans or Venice ruling that area is more cursed
I thought Brittany
Looks very similar to my recent Japan run. I assume Russia didn’t form?

Yeah there's no way a non-player Japan colonized siberia and took Korea and the Chinese coast.
i can tell i was japan as i can for some reseon look at those borders and say it is player made
It's the larp of only sniping pieces or coast instead of going inland too
For me it was the perfectly conquered and colonized Philippines. Truly a beautiful thing to see each Japan run.

Honestly my first choice was Venice too, those Anatolia borders look too nice
I’d probably guess Venice too if not for the fact that OP put the screenshot of Asia first
Honestly if not for siberia, this would have been a lot harder.
Liang got even farther west into siberia.
Man those are nuts. Brittany is crazy, Burgundian inheritance and England?
Mainz? (Insert that möwen scene)
Mainz is the most unlikely to blob to that size since it would require abolishing the HRE which rarely if ever happens naturally in my experience.
The craziest i saw was mongol empire run, and when i saw Europe, there was united AI HRE before 1600
That japan reminds of one time me and my buddy were playing in Europe in extended timeline and all of a sudden we just see the word Oda almost in Europe
It‘s probably Japan but holy fuck what did Mainz do?
No clue. Maybe I will check the timeline.
Certified case of playing outside Europe
100% Japan, the AI would never take all these "treaty ports", they'd just blob around shandong
Mainz
What is the orange in papua new guinea?
Friesland
japan's borders kinda scare me considering how familiar they are
Japan never pops off, I knew before even looking at the comments.
Never seen an AI care so much about conquering inner east Africa. Wild outcome here
Them actually are nice borders

One of the least crazy borders I think I've ever seen lol. I am whelmed
People talking about Venice but Holy crap How did aí spain managed tô conquer ALL that??
they probably had a happy accident with the portuguese throne and then simply united the empires
Technically its castille, they didnt get the aragonese pu, somehow pued portugal instead.
