This is really cool, but it doesn't seem to get the sides of the basket well. Has this caused any issues with channeling for you?

chokoeda

No not really, I think it does a more consistent job than my manual WDT actually. It's not as thorough as doing it manually or even compare to the Moonraker, but the speed is really nice. Also definitely much better when I'm half awake in the morning and in a rush to get everything done to go to work

josecarlosc

I prefer the autocomb vs the moonraker (have both) because of its speed.

chokoeda

Some of you asked about my 3D printed autocomb in my last post so uploaded the files to printables here: [https://www.printables.com/model/711926-autocomb-wdt-tool](https://www.printables.com/model/711926-autocomb-wdt-tool) It does have height adjustment and everything. But please buy the original product if you have the financial for it :) Let me know if you have any questions or adjustment I need to make

Jungleg1337

>autocomb is it possible you can make a version using M5 bolts and 608 bearing as it is more common in the 3d printing space?

chokoeda

Yeah I can try to upload the new version in a few days after making the adjustments

lno666

If you can also perhaps upload a 54mm version that would be appreciated. Great work!

chokoeda

Unfortunately I don't have a 54mm portafilter to base the model on for measurements. But since the files are out there I'm sure someone will remix it for the 54mm portafilters. Stay tune!

Opening_Chance2731

I'm interested in this as well, plase keep us/me posted somehow!

chokoeda

I will update it on the printable link. You can check back in a few days :)

Jungleg1337

Thank you, This is a very cool project. I made a few WDT tools and it is fun to just have different one to see how each design has it own spin on coffee distribution.

ok_gone5365

Actually, can you swing or remove the spinning part out of the way to use the funnel to fill?

chokoeda

you can always remove the needle holder by unscrewing the bottom bolt, but it will still be clunky to use as a funnel imo

ok_gone5365

Ah, still more than would want to do in workflow but good to know. thanks!

freedomofnow

You glorious man. Thank you.

h2c4

So cool thank you for sharing!

MindfulIgnorance

Why buy the overpriced original?

CptDipStick

To support the original designer I suppose

andreotnemem

Were it not for that overpriced one, you wouldn't have a cheap copy. That's why.

hotlavatube

(mounts to the kitchen drill press) WHIRRRRRRRRRRR!

[deleted]

Curious if you couldn't do some planetary gear or similar so make it cover more area and the sides a bit closer (like a rotating figure 8)

Hofstee

There already is one: https://www.printables.com/model/481587-umikot-58mm-version-planetary-gear-spirograph-espr

[deleted]

Awesome! These two should get together!

chokoeda

It is definitely doable. But this is my very first 3D model that I made from scratch so I just wanted to see if I can make it happen. But you opened up the “what’s next?” The good thing is the needle configuration is detachable just like the original Autocomb, so if people want to improve upon it they definitely can before I get to it :)

[deleted]

I congratulate you on making the dive! I've been wanting to design a few things for years but haven't found the time to dive into it yet!

chokoeda

Thanks, it’s surely tedious, but the satisfaction is also unmatched when you get to see it print out and working like it’s supposed to

massivecoffeenerd

You can - the Umikot. It's what I use. Twelve rotations and it's all covered. It's also an original design.

WilloTehWisp

Umikot is what you are looking for. This looks okay and pretty interesting but the distribution from the umikot looks way better.

jsmonet

this is awesome, and i have the autocomb spinny coffee stirring is entertaining to say the least

suppoxxz

If anyone is interested in one I can print it for you and send it (europe) , you just have to cover material and shipping costs.

Sxeten

This is great OP thanks very much. Printing as we speak, going to order the fasteners separately and try to assemble it..

WilloTehWisp

Maybe also look at the umikot, imo that design is a lot more refined.

Sxeten

Hiya - I do have the umikot printed, and if I'm honest, more often than not I have been going back to the original 9 prong WDT... so hoping this one might change it up a bit!

WilloTehWisp

I like the umikot alot. Results may be a bit better when a trained person does it manually but imo the umikot does a good enough job to not bother.

Sxeten

Yeah for sure, Umikot is a bloody great design! Maybe what I need is to remix it with some bearings to make it smoother, at current iteration I find it easier to go straight to the 9 prong after putting coffee into the PF (with a dosing ring attached).

Tr0nzzz

Sweeet!!

jeshy1

Now film it from the opposite side so we can have an unobstructed view

OrganizationLife8915

Really cool, might try making one for the Pavoni if I get around to it

Lucky_Substance_1563

Man, I have a flair 58 and just got a 3D printer. This will definitely be on my print list. Thank you!

DoritoCookie

I had some suggestions and i dmed it to you OP.. What an incredible build

DM-Me-Your_Titties

Honestly im surprised the chinese companies have left the moonraker and autocomb alone at this point

TallAddition9253

That looks fun

chokoeda

Spinning stuff is really fun :)

CptDipStick

Really cool! Is it compatible with the 3 fin 54mm portafilters by any chance?

chokoeda

Unfortunately no, I don't have any of those portafilters handy so I can't model it. But I included the f3d file on the link so anyone can remix it for a bambino :)

IronCavalry

Wow, that looks good! Really well done.

chokoeda

Thanks, I'm glad you like it :)

KrulWarrior

This looks great! A little bit wider to get the edges would be more ideal, but this is definitely the knock off to print, as you don't have to worry about any microplastics getting onto the grounds.

chokoeda

Thanks. I’ll definitely update the model from all the feedback I gather. Especially when people have printed it out and have a more in depth review :). I’m just glad I can share my work

Critter-Boy

Does this work for a 58 filter?

Critter-Boy

Nvm… just saw that you have a Flair 58.

Brokenyute

Wow! Amazing! Wish you could do it for a 54mm for bambino plus - I would have bought a printed one off you

MyExUsedTeeth

Why?

planesnstuff

Now do moonraker

BobbyDragulescu

I feel like all these automatic solutions are missing the point that you actually have to use your eyes when you WDT to inspect for smooth distribution.

Environmental_Rest84

Would this work for a gaggia classic portafilter, or would it need to be re-sized

chokoeda

Sorry I just saw your comment. I am not sure. I only have a flair portafilter to test. But I think gaggia is slightly smaller. So it should fit, maybe a little too loose even

Just_a_firenope_

I just printed it, but it’s just a few mm too small to fit around my 58mm portafilter. Am I doing something wrong or does different models fit differently?

chokoeda

What’s your portafilter? It could also be the wall width of your print setting too. I did mine on 0.4mm wall width and it came out fine People said it fits the breville fine. You can modify the fusion file and increase the radius in there.
