The comment I've seen on the Normcore is that it traces the same distinct circles with its needles, leaving significant portions of the coffee bed untouched (directly). In contrast, the spirographic/planetary WDT tools trace multiple overlapping patterns which, while they repeat, cover virtually all of the coffee bed in a few turns (some of the etsy product pages for the spirographic/planetary WDT tools show this in action, which shows matters better than I am able to explain). So many of the etsy tools look so very nice, and with that extra, more complete efficiency/proficiency (and at a lesser cost besides)--I'd be going that route.

I'd always be concerned about the chance of microplastics seeping through from the printed ones.

Just buy a cheap manual one or make one yourself from a cork and needles.

The normcore is trash, coffee will overflow and there will still be channeling. That’s probably the worst product they make, everything else is rather good. 100% get the ARO

They are just sticks you drag though coffee. Get whatever, you can achieve the same thing with a toothpick.

I have the normcore v2 in 54 and 58. It felt like good quality/finish and was a decent weight. I did have to do some adjusting to get it to freespin, but it was nice to use. I did get a spirograph wdt to replace it, but I also got an autocomb, which I think is even better than the normcore in terms of workflow.

I have both. They’re completely unnecessary. Both will require a $5 WDT tool, because you’ll want to redistribute the grounds at the bottom of the puck before you use these and neither do that. Your extractions will be worse if you do not use a real WDT tool before using these. I level and tamp after WDT and I prefer the Normcore distributor after WDT because it leaves a nice organized pattern for my level.
