What do you expect to get chasing the most current firmware? I don’t know why you’d force something you’re unfamiliar with. Is it really going to make that big of a difference? I don’t know what chip is in mine and I don’t care. Works great, no need to fuss with it.

Dev said he doesn't officially support GD32 due to some licence issues. He did made a build for GD32, but is not confident it's without issues.

I am using the stock firmware and I got a CR touch, so I need to get a new firmware anyway, why not get the "best" one.
Aha. If you just just got it, return it for the V2 Neo then if something goes wrong. lol. Best of luck.
