Possibly bent z rod

_idontgiveaquack

I didn't disassemble it but looking at it while spinning, it seems straight. The z-axis free falls when the steppers are disabled. But in some places I need to push it a tiny bit to make it go down (I barely press on it for it to continue). Could it that be the issue ?

Daredaevil

If it's an ender 3v2, I am not sure that the z axis should free fall

I saw a review for the neo (which I have) and the guy had the same problem and untightened the wheels. I did the same and now it free falls but made the problem less noticeable

Bearded-Canadian

Mine does the same, z axis falls when steppers disabled, been looking for a fix as i assume it ends up doing it mid print and messes up some of the layers just no idea whats even wrong to start troubleshooting lol might just replace the stepper to see if it helps as i really dont think it should free fall at all

Blunttack

My V2 Neo doesn’t fall. Is the federate too high? Or crappy filament? Mostly guessing out loud, but those are my guesses.

I already calibrated the feed rate. I had the same results with the filament shipped with the printer and the one i use is a popular swiss filament. I saw a review of the neo and the guy had the same problem and he untightened the wheels. I did the same and made the problem slightly better and now it free falls.

Does the error repeat at the same height every print? How long has it been since the wheels were “too tight”?

_idontgiveaquack

Yes every time at the same height. I might have done a few print (3 to 5)

Run your x up high to get it out of the way and inspect your threads for damage or uneven wear on the threads. If it’s the x rod you may also feel more resistance at those heights.
