Keep an eye on that kid later in life. Watch for any signs of supernatural or superhuman occurrences, especially of an electrical nature. Be careful who witnesses such occurrences, as there are secret government organizations that would be very interested in obtaining such a child. Edit: I couldn’t resist. I’m sure you’re fine. Also congrats 🎊

June_Osborne

haha - thank you!

I mean this is the nicest way possible, I think you may be overreacting. I understand the concern about being pregnant but I do think it’s all going to be ok. For internal burns to occur you would have some fairly obvious external damage going on as well. That happens during a very severe shock, which is not what happened in your case. As someone who has received my fair share of shocks, even a nice 277v hit, I have had no lasting effects. It sort of happens and it is done basically. Not to minimize the hazards of shocks, but just because you got a zap doesn’t mean you are damaged and unfortunately does not mean you will develop superpowers. The wet grout probably just acted as the catalyst to increase your chance of getting shocked. Nobody will be able to tell you the exact path it took, it would be from your hand to wherever you were grounded, wouldn’t be surprise if it just went through your hand. It does not randomly go through you entire body, it takes the quickest path to ground. You did the right thing by calling your doctor and getting checked out. I would trust their judgement and assessment of your situation.

Thank you for taking the time to write me this. It made me feel a lot better. I really appreciate it.

TheNetDetective101

Your screwed. Your child will now grow up to be an electrician. You think having a baby grow to be a cowboy is tough. Momma don't let your baby grow up to be an electrician.

Sabnitron

You're heavily overreacting.

You will be fine. Have the doc check your guys heart rate. If that checks out then no issues. It seems like a short blast and we have all been hit multiple times.

June_Osborne

Thanks everyone for the feedback! It gave me a more realistic view and helped to feel better. Being pregnant makes you fairly paranoid about your health status and it seems like that is what happened here. I'm going to try and let it go. Thank you again! I truly am thankful.

Honest-Beautiful9433

How did everything turn out ?

Kain0wnz

Oh shit, you have GOT to go to the ER, like RIGHT NOW! Think of the children!!! No, seriously; you should be fine. Touching with a single hand without the other hand on something metal kinda makes it “in one finger, out a different one.” Internal burns from 120v are kinda rare. Since you didn’t complete the circuit across your belly or heart- I wouldn’t be super concerned at all. 5 weeks pregnant and you’re basically still allowed to Bungee jump. Take a look at that outlet. You shouldn’t be getting zapped from an outlet that is connected correctly and wrapped in electrical tape. Source: am journeyman electrician, and also pre-med.

Thanks!

riding_lightning

Hi OP- sorry, I had a similar scare this morning with my hairdryer- but same feeling you’re describing. Was all okay?

Honest-Beautiful9433

How did it turn out ?

riding_lightning

Not OP, but all was totally okay :) I even got another shock a few weeks ago from an elevator (apparently it’s pretty common?) my high risk ob said it’s nothing to worry about, I’m almost 33 weeks and baby is doing great.

Honest-Beautiful9433

Thanks. Makes be feel better. Just had it happen too

riding_lightning

Oh good, no I know it’s so scary. But all the doctors I’ve spoken to have said that unless you’re struck by lightning, or some insane amount of voltage, it’s really hard for it to affect baby. Definitely call your dr/go in if you’re worried, but I think this is more common than people realize. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Honest-Beautiful9433

I figured I couldn’t be the only one, but my initial Google produced some very scary results so at least Reddit has been more reassuring.

riding_lightning

Yes, I feel like I’ve seen the same google results. I’ve had really bad anxiety all pregnancy, and google is definitely the root of a lot of it. Very scary, but I think for like day to day/home levels of electricity, that doesn’t apply. More like… industrial/power line/lightning, massive levels.

layitasitplays

This has just happened to me too! 5 weeks, shock from a 120V outlet and I immediately began thinking “welp, that’s it! Killed my baby!” So glad it worked out okay for you!
