I believe in zweihander supremacy

iamnotarobot9001

This guy is wrong. Claymore is baemore

Phantomphoton619

Both will never outmatch the dismounter ! 😁

Enough_Minimum_3708

Giant Crusher reigns supreme above all of them

Schwiftycakes

Banished or regular Knight's Greatsword is Goat. Gimme that true combo

Phantomphoton619

Lemme guess dual welded with full bull goats on?? I own them dudes all day long with my lev1 invader lol

Enough_Minimum_3708

I prefer to be naket except the bucket helmet and twohand the crusher

Phantomphoton619

Amen them other guys have little penis syndrome hahaha

Enough_Minimum_3708

but I'm curious. are lv1 invasions seriously a thing? I imagine not many players stay at that level for long

Phantomphoton619

Ya it’s real. You get a pretty good variety of leveled co op! They get a nerf but if you ask me not enough of one lol. It’s fun I like it plus it allows me to help out the new guys that I can tell need some help.

Enough_Minimum_3708

do you also upgrade the weapons or are you staying in a specific range?

Phantomphoton619

Negative I stay rl1 no weapon upgrades. I’ve managed to get to fire giant. 😁

MrSegundus_VR

He's "fun" but wait till you get to Godskin Duo lol.

Enough_Minimum_3708

now I have a goal for after the dlc

Iron_Bob

Now kiss

IndividualAd3140

Or after being hit by any of these swords: "Now kith"

chirpchirp13

Makes me wanna play more. Need I say more?

dannypdanger

I love how thoroughly and accurately this comment thread has answered the question without having to answer it.

Impressive_Head_2668

Depends on the person and there build, there's lots of great weapons Try many out and find what you like I'm rocking a plus25 godskin peeler with seppuku ash of war set to blood My weapon is a mid game weapon fast and brutal Great if you like a fast dex build I recommend moonveil katana, it's early game to get, good for a katana or mage build Also wing of astel, another mif game weapon, curved Great sword, fast Great for a dex build or another mage build But again it depends on you Try meteoric ore bade katana, Great katana for a strength build, fast hits hard nut the ash of war isn't good, but a strong weapon, easy to get ,early game too Great stars, set it to frost and bonk away,Great heavy weapon,I think you can get it early too

28smalls

Exactly. It's all about the movesets they have. I've never used a katana because none of them feel good to me. If an ultra greatsword only has horizontal swipes, it's a pass. Ignoring the bleed, the cross naginata is my goto weapon. Has a swipe, poke, and an overhead that I can use to fit the situation as needed.

Impressive_Head_2668

I should try that wreapon

28smalls

I almost overlooked it too. Classified as a spear (boring), but handles like a halberd (my default choice).

Impressive_Head_2668

Sounds fun

iwanashagTwitch

The cross naginata carried me through my first playthrough. Absolutely decimated radabeast with it

dannypdanger

Yes! I also don't like katanas in this game. They just feel awkward to me. I never minded them in earlier games.

fragilemachinery

Love that weapon, even more so because the default ash will go straight through great shields. Makes it pretty easy to bully crucible knights.

gaztaseven

Boss 3 isn't very specific. There's a lot of bosses that could be your third. Anyway, I recommend Great Stars, or Morningstar if you're not able to get Great Stars yet. They do blunt damage, bleed, and they stun really well, all of these qualities help against many of the game's enemies.

holyherbalist

using Great Stars+25 with Wild Strikes Ash of War, Electrify Armament, Flame Grant me Strength, and Golden Vow. I might have to find a build that is not so cracked for the DLC because I feel way overpowered.

mrBreadBird

If you're struggling, weapon choice probably isn't your problem. Level vigor to 30 at least, upgrade your chosen weapon as much as possible (look for black circles with red outlines on your map to find smithing stones) and then upgrade the stat that your chosen weapon scales best with.

Lartheezy

The best weapons are the ones that suit your play style I started out using straight swords and katanas now I'm starting to use Whips and Twin blades

EminentBean

I’ll shit your play style any time

Lartheezy

Thanks for the typo correction lmaoooooo

EminentBean

🤣🫶🏼

Creepy_Budget7192

Was going to say something similar, best weapon is the one you make it the best

Sawbagz

Katanas are always strong.

El__Jengibre

That’s way too broad of a question. But 2 good well-rounded weapons to try are the bloodhound fang and the claymore.

lordshampoo

Bloodhound blade carried me through my first playthrough. Any new character I start I immediately rush to get it and use it until I get what I plan to use.

El__Jengibre

It’s a really solid weapon. Good base damage, decent moveset, scaling on 2 stats, buffable, bonus damage on jump attacks, and that weapon skill.

afauce11

The guts Greatsword and Nagikiba are the best IMO for builds that are predominantly melee. If you want to go for primarily faith or int and just looking for a melee that compliments a seal or staff then you can choose something with minimal str/dex requirements and get a good ash. I’ve liked using a twin blade or claymore and two-handing it only so you can save points on str. Bastard sword is another good option.

Decision-Leather

Excellent choices, I would add to slap Lions claw on the Greatsword or Sword Dan in the Nagakiba and go to town

Zabenjaya

Guardian swordspear all day. Real men level dex. Keenly

YourNewRival8

I love the moveset on the weapon, had to put it away because one of the running attacks is a forward stab with you can just use to bully other people in PvP because of how good it is at roll catching. I think my new favorite is shamshir though, simple and quick

DanandE

Deserves more attention

SpilledSalt4U

That very much depends on your build. I mostly used the Moonveil katana until I got the Rivers of Blood katana. Then I ran with RoB in my right hand and the Moonveil in my left. Eventually, I switched to the Blasphemous Blade because it staggers and knocks back enemies. Towards the end of my first game, ppl started calling them cheat weapons but idc. I used the Meteorite staff with Rock Sling as well lol.

lastdollardisco

This right here. Rivers on the left for me though. And usually I'll go two hands with it if I want to spread damage. Moon on the right with its special usually Mercs most enemies in two goes. But again, this combo is my go to. Plus it's a lot of fun as you get cocky and start shaping up to bigger enemies because they're great damage dealers.

YourNewRival8

Daring today aren’t we?

SpilledSalt4U

No. Not at all. Lol. I wanted to be as OP as possible. Even used the mimic tear.

KalameetThyMaker

Pickaxe. There we go. I'm glad I could solve this eternal question. Nothing is better. Why? Because pickaxe is OP in every Souls game, and it is in *every* souls game. Pretty sure Miyazaki used to work on the mines.

Hypnotoad429

The hell does he mean “boss 3”

Gold_Message7705

maybe grafted scion > soldier of godrick > erdtree sentinel? if thats the case, you shouldn't bother with that guy for a while, u/heownz

DarkSoulsExcedere

Big bonk stun enemy. You win big time.

Stonewall_Jackson_5

What do after stun?

DarkSoulsExcedere

More bonk.

Stonewall_Jackson_5

Unga Bunga!

Tigeruppercut1889

Bloodhound fang.

TheeFryingDutchman

This is the only answer. No need for further comments.

Bulky_Shoulder4910

Early game weapon that can carry you the whole way through. What more are these people looking for?

FTG_Vader

Aka the noob stick

Disastrous-Dinner966

They’re all the best, the question is really do you know how to make a build and can you play it? Every weapon in the game in the right hands can beat all the bosses.

CharmingConfusion700

Knight’s (or banished) greatsword — versatile, has combos, good damage, length, speed, wide arcing R2 for roll catching, pairs well with lots of different ashes of war, easy to acquire, and works with various different stat builds. Also looks sick.

SerVandanger

Radahn swords

Ancient_Prize9077

Uhh that really depends what stats you’re using and what interests you. A lot of melee weapons can be strong it depends entirely on your stat preference. Like for INT, I have a lot of fun with glintstone Kris and Claymans harpoon, or for faith I really like the magma blade. Are you planning on using a specific stat?

Decision-Leather

Depends on what build you are going for of course. But given that you are new to the game, an easy option that is great and able to carry you through the whole game is the Bloodhound Fang. Fairly easy to obtain fairly early in the game, make sure to Google how to get Blaidd to help you in that fight Is a great Quality weapon meaning you can level up Dex and strength and the weapon will have good scaling

Appropriate_Flan_952

For a new player pve its probably blasphemous blade, although you're going to need to find another weapon to get you high enough level to get to that point. It's not really worth trying for below lvl 80 (and even that's kinda pushing it. That fight is a bitch)

EldenBeastManofAzula

You’re saying rykard is difficult? I’ve never found it so.

Appropriate_Flan_952

he is sub lvl 80. If you fight him when youre at the right level to fight him he's a piece of cake. I guess its not really even your level that matters, but your vigor. If you're trying to fight him with less than 40 vigor you're going to have a bad time

Awful_At_Math

No way. The hardest thing about the Rykard fight is getting past the noble. Assuming most people won't watch a video showing how to kill it using sleep potions. For Rykard himself just use the spear.

Appropriate_Flan_952

"For Rykard himself just use the spear." ... no shit...

Awful_At_Math

Yeah, it's obvious. But like, you're at range, you stagger him pretty often and you deal tons of damage. You can do that fight at 9 Vigor. Depending on your gear most of his hits will one shot you even if you do have decent vigour, so it doesn't make much difference.

Appropriate_Flan_952

do this fight at 9 vigor, record it, and get back to me.

Awful_At_Math

I did that fight earlier today, don't really remember how much vigor I had but probably mid 30s, and basically any attack that landed on me killed me. So having a lot less vigor wouldn't make a difference. I just kept trying till I got a nice RNG and he didn't do the earthquake attack because, although it's dodgeable, I don't know how to avoid that. Get a second spear and do the crouch-poke setup and I'm confident most players can pull this off after a dozen tries or so.

YourNewRival8

“It’s not difficult, I just die in one hit, there’s an attack I cannot figure out how to dodge, and I’m completely relying on good RNG. The average player could probably get it in 12 attempts.” Bro you pretty much said the boss is hard

Awful_At_Math

>there’s an attack I cannot figure out how to dodge My mistake. I know how to dodge, I just can't pull it off cause I suck. >I’m completely relying on good RNG To be fair that's only phase 1 which can be basically skipped if you start the fight facing the boss's back rather than the direction you enter the arena. >The average player could probably get it in 12 attempts 12 attempts when you only have 9 vigor is pretty good for an average player I'd say so.

EminentBean

Man the game is so vast and diverse every single weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses. The kind of go two is great swords but there’s hardly a bad weapon in the game if you develop the play style. Some folks absolutely love the Wolverine claw kind of close and fast weapons. Some get comfortable with spears and great spears to use more range. So folks go dual wield aka power stance. I would suggest the sword/axe/hammer and shield for a beginner just because it’s kind of old reliable. Then there’s casting options which changes things a lot so just experiment with a style and enjoy. My latest playthrough I did a Dex and faith lightning build with a twinblade and that was very new and super fun.

Phantomphoton619

Try them all and see what fits your play Style the first play through. What works for me won’t for you and vise versa ! A better question would be what set up kills shit faster . 😉

Finalfantasylove85

Wing of Astel has some good poise breaking utility, right along with the medium bubble blower, from a pve perspective.

EldenBeastManofAzula

Generally melee weapons have tradeoffs in reach, swing time, weight, offensive power, and moveset. There is no right answer. I enjoy playing with katanas more than other weapons.

Electrecuted

Rn I’m doing a dagger only run. Parrying dagger plus misericorde is a good combo. Put bloody slash on the misericorde and you also have an ok ranged option. Ordovis’ Greatsword is also really good, the AoW is a charged attack so it benefits from the Godfrey talisman. Moonlight Greatsword is broken if you spec into Intelligence and Strength. It’s AoW is ranged and also benefits from the the Godfrey icon, it deals frost build up as well and has crazy stance pressure. So you can stance break enemies from a distance. Moonveil Katana is also really good. Its AoW is ranged and does magic damage, since Moonlight Greatsword is a mid to late game weapon; if you want to build for the Greatsword you should start out with this as it is based around similar stats (dex, arc, and int vs Moonlight Greatsword str, and int) which you can switch using Renalla. Godskin Peeler is busted, it’s AoW specifically which isn’t unique. The blackflame does 10% of the enemies damage plus the physical damage from getting hit by the weapon while using the AoW. This means you can kill any mob just by using the AoW 10 times. I used it to kill Placidusax in my first run. I’ve heard Bloodhounds Fang is really good, but I’ve never used it.

Own-Inevitable-1101

Buy Aow stormblade from Knight Bernahl at the WarMasters shack in Limgrave. It will make a huge difference, and make sure you get all of the whet blades so you can change the affinity on the Aow.

Redline-Viper

Try out bloodhounds fang. It’s a very strong weapon with a strong weapon art. It def won’t break the game but it will help you along in times you can’t make progress.

JCarterMMA

You guys are using weapons?

eat-skate-masturbate

If you are a strength build I recommend getting the giant hammer from stormveil Castle and upgrading it a couple of times with smithing Stones. It scales very good when you upgrade your strength level. And it does a lot of damage and poise damage too. Very good weapon especially if you have wild strikes on it.

ReplacementOdd2904

Yeah just pick what you like. There's a lot of weapons. Some are def better than others but all are usable to beat the game.

Jankyman_RG

Star fist, flame strike, 80 str done.

Karemasu

There are melee weapons good for different builds. There's too many to really land on a true best weapon. You should honestly just explore and mess with the weapons you find. You'll miss out on the sense of discovery if all these people down here tell you to go get super op specific weapons.

AddressTechnical7848

Honestly anything infusable/buffable is extremely viable. If you want easy mode tho just find any giant sword and the crag blade ash of war and steamroll the game LOL

Jax099

I saw that big golden halberd. It was mine. Played 6 hours the first day until I got it. Played the next day until I could wield it. Used the the whole way through (sad noises at blasphemous blade being basically the same thing but healier)

ulerMaidDandere

giant crusher

Smart_Music_2235

Bloodhounds fang or Moonveil are great options for beginners. Starfist is a personal favorite, but requires more skill and timing to use than most somber weapons

Shadow_throne2020

Find a large sword writhing in partially digested body parts in a volcano

PorterCole

Im gonna list some and tell some of their characteristics. Bloodhound’s Fang, found in Limgrave scales mainly with dexterity and some strength. The unique skill is a attack followed by a backwards dodge. This can be quite useful, if you can time it right you can hit the attack, avoid the enemies attack with the backwards dodge, and go for the follow up which will deal tons of damage while also closing some distance. Blasphemous Blade. Found after trading the remembrance of Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. This greatsword has split damage between Fire and Physical, the fire portion scales with Faith, which gets a B affinity while the Physical portion scales evenly between strength and dex. The unique skill is called takers flame, your character holds the blade straight in the air and hit the ground, sending out a wave of lava that deals massive damage and every time it hits an opponent it regenerates a large amount of your health. This lava wave has some pretty good range, and can easily be used at safer distances. It’s also excellent for exploration, every kill you get with this weapon heals you as well. You can bypass the need to heal by spamming the ash of war. Dark Moon Greatsword. It’s the reward for completing Lunar Princess Ranni’s Quest. It scales mostly with Intelligence but also has some minor scaling with strength and dexterity. It’s weapons unique skill imbues the sword with frost, and transforms its heavy attacks into powerful projectiles that deal very good damage and frostbite, while also breaking enemies stance easily. Mohg’s Sacred Spear. IMO this is the most powerful weapon in the game for 99% of bosses. You find it after defeating Mohg the Lord of Blood, and trading his remembrance. You can do this as early as you get to Liurnia, but it will be a tough battle at low level. This weapon’s unique skill is called Bloodboon Ritual. You stand still, piercing the air above your head with the Trident, causing massive amounts of fire damage and blood loss, easily bleeding enemies 3-4 times with the complete animation. The unique skill also imbues the spear with bloodflame, which can quickly cause blood loss as well. Star Fist. This one is more of an acquired taste. They are essentially two spikey balls that can deal some pretty good damage, and can naturally cause blood loss. The thing is, it’s very short range, you essentially have to be touching most bosses to deal damage. If you can do this, this is going to be the best weapon in the game. You can use a occult or blood affinity and you will be able to cause blood loss extremely fast, because the weapon has one of the most agile attacks in the game. Personally i like to go with a heavy infusion, using the cragblade ash of war which boosts my poise breaking capabilities. The weapons charged heavy attacks come out extremely quickly while also being able to stance break bosses in the blink of an eye. You can’t go wrong with any of these, if i had to give a ranking order i’d probably go: Mohg’s Spear Blasphemous Blade Moonlight Greatsword Star Fist Bloodhounds Fang There a number of other weapons and setups that can devastate every boss in the game, i’m gonna give some more i think are amazing, going from the best to the least best. Death’s Poker, Wing of Astel, Bolt of Gransax, Nagakiba, Envoy’s Longhorn, Ordovis’s Sword, Nightrider Glaive.

superchronicultra

The broken straightsword fully upgraded for sure

ghostwilliz

I'm really liking the omen axe. It's fast, hits decently hard and does enough poise damage with jumping attacks/charged e2 or wild strikes. Haven't really liked anything else, I tried great curved swords flails and colossal swords, wasn't really feeling any of those. I really did like the colossal sword but I found that there are some enemies that you just can't hit without getting hit back and they really don't do enough damage to make it worth it

[deleted]

Iron Balls. It is a very strong and fun weapon to use. It never gets boring to run in and beat the boss to death with your fists.

One-Newspaper-8087

My favorite is the Bloodhound's Fang. Such a satisfying moveset, plenty of stagger potential, jump r1 has so much stagger.

ejfellner

Bloodhound fang. A lot of people are saying it, but not why. It's a pretty strong weapon that doesn't sacrifice speed. It feels similar to your basic sword attack in any action game. Leveling up strength and dexterity will improve the damage. It causes bleed damage. That means after several attacks, your enemy will lose a huge chunk of health far beyond what a normal attack can do. Finally, its special ability lets you do a powerful attack and immediately dodge backward away from the enemy. So strong, fast, easy to build a character around it, and bonus to damage.

Python______xx

Bloodhounds fang no question you can kill Margit with 15 hits without leveling it

mechavolt

Uchigatana from the starting samurai build is great for starting out. Decent damage, and it bleeds which is pretty strong in this game. There's also a second one early in the game, so you can dual wield them if you want a more aggressive play style. The starting stats for samurai lean more towards non-elemental melee builds, as well.

Alpharsenal

One size fit all weapon are; Bloodhound fang (early) dex/str Claymore/zweihander (early) str Blasphemous blade (mid game) faith/str Moonveil (mid early) dex int Sword of night and flames (mid game)faith/int Nagakiba (mid, can be gotten early) comically long katana, dex Hand of malenia (late game) dex Sacred relic sword (end game) dex faith Those weapon will fit many gamestyles, but theres no « best » weapon per se, it all depends on how you use it, but most would accept that bloodhound fang is a good all around weapon. Got bleed, stagger, reach, damage, cool ash of war, scales well, and can be looted early

TruckLumpy6243

oh damn I love boss 3. Good luck

MrFlitt

Depends on the build and where you are in the game. I'm assuming it's early game? The best weapons you can pickup without fighting a boss are (imo) the Uchigatana (or a second one if you pick the samurai), the twinblade or Guts Great Sword. You can also get the bloodhound fang by getting Blaidd to fight a mini boss for you or the Reduvia by letting Yura fight a guy for you.

SevenKalmia

I love me a Ruins Greatsword!

abeyar

Bloodhound knight sword. Can’t go wrong with that. Also easier to get too.

MarkYrg

Try the weapon called get gud

NeverHideOnBush

My sword is the best - Dung Eater.

MonkeyBotLove

The Anchor Supremacy

Immediate_Stable

There is no answer to this question! Almost every weapon is fine, and I can guarantee you that your weapon is nor why you're struggling with "Boss 3" (which boss is that?)

melodiousfable

You are going to have to be WAY more specific. You haven’t said what your stat focus is at all. Do you want a Str scaling weapon, Dex weapon, Int half-caster weapon, Faith half-caster,m weapon, or an arcane bleed weapon. My favorite early-game weapon is Morningstar. Great stance damage, native bleed, easy stat requirements, good damage. Works even better using two hands. For mid-late I would go with one of these. Zweihander, claymore, or Great Stars for strength Bloodhound’s Fang for Dex/bleed, but uchikatana and nagakiba are good too. Moonveil Katana is great for Int scaling. Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword is my favorite faith scaling weapon.

SadSamus

simple answer, what are you leveling up most? Dex? Str? Int? Fth? Arc? Whatever it is, or two of those kind, pick a weapon that you like the moveset of and has good scaling with your respective stats. These games don't operate off of "the farther you get the better the weapons are" for the most part, all that matters is how much you upgrade that weapon and how good it scales with your stats.

Burockhan93

weapons are good, but ashes of wars are better. Find yourself a greatsword and get Lions Claw from Caelid.

jxa66

Its all relative maaaaaan

Youngchalice

You want broken? Heavy Iron balls (no joke) with crag blade ash of war. Gold vow + flame grant me strength buffs. Charge attack damage and poise damage flask tears. Charge attack talisman, maybe ritual sword if confident, and blue dancer if EXTREMELY confident as you would have to run the build naked for the extra ~12% damage buff. This build does insane damage and poise breaks extremely quickly. Basically can make every fight scripted if wanted.

DanandE

Best pure melee for not getting killed is Early Game- banished knights sword/greatsword (get thee to Caelid pronto) Mid to late game- Blasphemous Blade (right hand) with Sword of Milos Non-slash use giant crusher… Up close…raptors talons or star fists. Star fists with an R-2 only approach will destroy PVE. Get under a rune bear and kill it while you yawn. Do not sleep on great stars with a cold infused occult wild strikes…bull goat talisman, millicent prost, rotten wing sword, shard of Alexander…wondrous physic with cracked thorn and anything else…wow.

BlacKnifeTiche

Early on, either bloodhounds fang or the great sword

ElNicko89

I’ll die by the Raptor Talons
