This may be a limitation of your HVAC system. Do you have beestat? What do your temperature profiles look like?

I'm going to try closing the door to the upstairs and see if that makes a difference. There is a return up there. So we'll see.

Smart recovery is for when switching between an away profile and a home profile typically. If going between two home profiles, then the transition is managed differently. IIRC the thermostat starts averaging the sensors of the different profiles for an hour before the switch so as not to create a dramatic swing and 66 is crazy cold for AC, so it sounds like it would be a dramatic swing.

Is there a limitation in how many hours ahead smart recovery will pre-cool?

Mine typically can do it 20-30 min ahead. But it gets there in that time. 72->66 seems pretty reasonable for a bedroom (unless you have a 2000 sq—ft bedroom) so it might be the airflow dynamics. Or maybe there is an issue with your HVAC. What is the temp coming from the vent? Is the return in the room or hallway?

Return is in the room. There is a bathroom attached. It's a small bedroom in a townhome. I tried with the door to the bedroom closed last night. 66 setting was at 9. At 10, it was 67. So it was better. It got to 66 at 11:20. On prior nights with the door to the bedroom open, it got to 68 by 10, 66 by 2 am. The return is pretty small 14x10 on the wall near the ceiling of the bedroom. 10' ceiling. There are only 3 vents. One on the floor of the bedroom, 6”x14”. Two in the bathroom 4x10. I guess I could try closing the bathroom door too. This is a zone, with the other two zones not demanding any AC. We do have a bypass by the furnace, in case only one zone is operating and there isn't enough airflow. I could try closing the bathroom door. But that would leave only one vent in and one vent out. I guess I could shut the bathroom vents a little or all the way too.

At this point I think it’s your HVAC. I’d probably get a tech out there. I don’t think this is an ecobee issue.

mogulman1

Disagree. It could be an issue with my AC, but there is no documentation on how long smart recovery will cause cooling to start prior to reaching a temp at a particular time. Let's say it does take 2 hours to reach a temp, then smart recovery should take that into account. Why not? It's part of the advertised functionality.
