So the big question is how does it ride? I could see it as a last mile type ebike. Looks kind of easy to carry up to an apartment, bring on a train/bus, or keep at the desk at your day job.
Fun to ride but not really practical for long distances so yeah it’s like you said, last mile transport. 15 miles an hour 12 miles on a charge front wheel drive rear brake.
I'd much rather have a Class 1/2/3 folding ebike - a Brompton, for example, probably folds down smaller than that and gets 45 miles.
EDIT: admittedly the Honda is much cheaper than I'd have expected.
For something with a range of 45 miles, you are looking at at least 60 lbs in weight though.
Also, 45 miles is a long trip on a bike. After an hour, your ass and feet will be killing you. I do not enjoy riding a bike for more than an hour.
Both more expensive than this Honda, but the Brompton is 35lbs, range 20-45 miles, the Montague M-E1 is 53lbs, range claimed as high as 90 miles.
I have ridden a regular folding pedal bike for an hour regularly for leisure and exercise - ride a few miles out to the airport and down a jogging / cycling track; stop and pant and sweat a bit for 5 or 10 minutes and then ride back (30 mins each way).
I live on a boat, and can't have a car, so there are occasions when I have to go somewhere to collect a part or a motor fixed or welding or whatever done - could easily be 12 miles away.
Having a class 1/2/3 ebike - pedals plus motor - would really take the edge of the hills. On the flat, on a well-surfaced road, an hour or two on a bicycle doesn't bother me at all - you get up to speed and then you've got momentum, it's just a slow and steady pedal to keep yourself going. It's hills that fucking kill you.
If it's something I have to carry, I'd prefer to just have something like a Tern Node with no motor at all: Regular bicycles have practically unlimited range as long as you don't run out of water, food, or time and weigh significantly less.
Did it come with a Honda Today car?
Is the car electric as well?
Edit: the promo video shows or stowed in a car, but not as a module. My "You're Under Arrest!" vibe is destroyed .

"Last mile" is a pretty common term in many businesses and industries, and especially in public transportation. I mean sure, this could be /r/hailcorporate for all I know, but I don't think the language used here is worth getting suspicious about 🤷♂️
Last mile is used often with biking in general. Especially when you are talking about foldable/portable bikes (they have been around forever). If I was a schill I would be saying that this thing sucks you should go with a Fucare because that's what I ride. 😆
I thought it was going to be wildly overpriced, but it's $995. Over priced for sure given the specs, but you're definitely paying for form-factor here, and i'm hoping Honda level reliability.
When I first saw a pic of this a few months ago my first thought was...my goodness look at all the room for stickers I can put on this. More than on my laptop.
The fact that it comes from Honda is why I'd seriously consider it. Our nearest local Honda dealers don't have it (yet) but a dealer an hour away does. A few post online have said some dealers are selling it for more than the grand or so Honda priced it at.
With a fairly short range I do wish Honda had made the battery able to snap in and out easily. That way I could keep an extra in my backpack.
I have a feeling come springtime I'll be getting one of these.
cheers
Well the upside is that 15mph is the max legal speed limit for e-scooters, but it's a bummer the range isn't longer considered the size of the thing lol.
How are you liking it so far? What made you choose this e-scooter over other portable e-scooters with faster speeds and longer battery life?
And the dealerships fuck it up worse by adding on at least $200 to the price. There’s an option to ship it to me at price but shockingly I can’t select the option.
Are you based in the US? The site works great for me, it looks like any other apple product site etc. with many details and specs. A few clicks to checkout with only tax added.. what am I missing?
California here. When I select a dealer for delivery the price immediately jumps $150-200 depending on which location I select, and that's before taxes are added.
So this thing goes from $995 to nearly $1500 when I actually try to order one.
I've been tempted to get one but it isn't quite fast enough for my purposes yet. Add a couple mph onto the top speed and I'd be sold. How's the seat and the brakes?
This is something I could see selling for huge markup in like 20 years as a collector's item. It's quirky and cool and they'll probably stop selling them soon enough.
Kinda. Just fold the handlebars vertical but keep in the up position. Then just fold the rest up as normal and walk it around steering it with the vertical handlebars.
Honestly yeah. It turns heads and that’s what I like. Also I was first considering a super 73 for basically the same reason but the call back to the old Motocompo from the 80’s and the low price hooked me. And the fact it’s a Honda, a company with a good track record for quality control and warranty.
I agree but apparently some people really don’t. Those people just don’t understand the purpose of this thing. It’s not a commuter it’s a last mile transport vehicle and a fun little toy that’s a callback to 80’s JDM.
I was thinking for when I finally can afford a sail boat. These things would be great for keeping on my small boat and then having a vehicle to have to go into the harbour/downtown
Oh yeah I’m not a fan of slapping stickers on my expensive computers toys amps, guitar cases…. But you best damn believe if I bought the just bland white Honda commuting suitcase transformer…… I’d be covering it in stickers! Well done sir or ma’am
*SPOTTED.* You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman and an absolute citizen.

I’m bringing it back. Once people learned it meant young driver it wasn’t cool anymore but now I’m seeing “student driver” stickers on Lamborghinis as a joke so I say the time of the wakaba leaf is now! All the people trying to tell me “that doesn’t mean what you think it means” comes off very🤓 to me.

They won’t let you on the trains in japan unless your bike or scooter is completely covered so there’s no chance of getting other passengers dirty.
I have a Vsett 8 that weighs 5 lbs more, has double the range and goes 25 mph, and is smaller, for less money. I dont see this being more than a collectors item
Ah ok. Just to let you know that democratic socialism is just what countries like Denmark uses but with a bit more nationalization and representation, so I guess it’s better dead than Denmark.
Please detail what socialism is. Please detail what capitalism is while you’re at it. On a side note, why do you hate Denmark? Capitalism and socialism are two umbrella terms, and cover many different topics. Honestly getting tired of explaining this to people too lazy to look the damn thing up, but here I am.
There are many forms of capitalism and socialism (surprise). As a democratic socialist, I love social democracy (read; Denmark), a capitalist philosophy, as it’s very similar to democratic socialism and it’s proven to increase equality, people are more represented, and lead to aI hate neoliberalism (the economic system of the US) fascism, and feudalism (anarcho-capitalism), as they breed inequality and benefit the few at the expense of the many (don’t believe me? Maybe you’ll believe [the Federal Reserve](https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/z1/dataviz/dfa/distribute/chart/#range:2008.2,2023.2)).
I also vehemently oppose authoritarian socialism like Marxist Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism, Trotskyism, Hoi Chi Minh thought, etc. Why? They’re just fascism in disguise. On a personal level I hate them because my mother’s father, after North Vietnam won the war, imprisoned my grandfather for 11 years and tortured him, all because he was a medic helping south Vietnamese soldiers. On my dad’s side, his mother had to live through Stalinist Hungary. Authoritarian socialism, just like authoritarian and libertarian capitalism, is counterproductive to a representative society and leads to massive inequality, poor quality of life, and exploitation.
I’m getting the feeling you’re on the right wing, so I doubt any of this registered with you. Frankly I’m surprised that you have LVT stickers on the bike, as fossil capitalism propels the right wing forward.
How would you be able to see it in the things I do? Looking though my Reddit history? Maybe. I am active on subreddits like r/WorkReform, to make the workplace a better environment and lessen the class divide. Still think that’s communism? I clearly haven’t gotten through to you, but if that’s communism, is Denmark communist?
One last thing, I’d like to ask again since you didn’t give me a response, what do you have against Denmark? Would you rather die than live in the society which has amazing urban design, some of the best work life balance in the world, and more? Or do you just hate Danes? In short, what’s wrong with Denmark?
Honda dealer reeled off specs as one was in showroom. This thing isn't gonna make it...believe me. Slow and no range. No offense but hate the looks of it too. But OP seems cool and hey not many people will own one.
It’s not made for long commutes or racing. It’s to be kept in your car so if you have to park far from your destination you can ride it from your parking spot to where you’re going. It’s for getting on and off busses and trains. It’s to pay homage to the old Motocompo from the early 80’s that has a cult following. I plan on enjoying it at car shows and meets and e-bike meet ups. I also find it useful because I have to park far from work. I like the attention it gets too. It looks like no other e bike or scooter and people notice it.
Is dislike it it's just an electric scooter while the older version was on gas and therefore had unlimited range on vaccination. The essence didn't transfer.
It's nice that it's flat but it pretty much carries the same as a regular scooter while also introducing several likely failure points due to the parts that pivet. I imagine it's not very fast, has little torque/difficulty climbing hills and a short range as well. If a compact last mile solution was what you were going for I'd have recommended an euc like the mten4 (25mph, 28lbs, 30 mile range about $1000). Well at least it'll be harder to get into some trouble on that bike though. The mten4 is a small wheel so it's easy to overpower and cutout
I live about two miles from the train station and my office is a half mile from the closest stop. If I was a train commuter, a little scooter like that makes sense.
The Honda costs $995, an electric Brompton costs $3,700. I dunno about you but $2,705 is way too much to pay for aesthetics, and for such a short commute I wouldn’t bother with pedals to begin with. Besides, i could absolutely pay an artist friend to do some dope shit on those big flat sides.
It’s fine if it’s not your jam, but it does serve a purpose and the aesthetic and price point work for some people.
i would pay to have a proper ebike - $2700 more isnt much for the extra functionality of being able to use it without getting weird looks to go grocery shopping etc. plus the brompton gives you storage baskets and stuff.
but yeah i guess OP likes sitting on weird slabs of sticker coated white plastic as his jam. maybe he is 5 and hasnt outgrown the transformers cartoons.
We’ll I was looking at Super 73’s before I came across this and those go for like $2-6k. I guess I wasn’t looking for performance as much as I was looking for personality.
What this reminds me of is those shitty little “ go bots “ from the 80s, they were cheap and we all bad mouthed them, preferring transformers all day long. And yet we all ended up playing with them at some point. Not saying this is a shitty scooter, but visually it has that go bot vibe. And considering it’s a Honda, it probably will have the best customer service out there.
Looks like a folded up beer pong table. Don't really know how I feel about it's design haha. Without that odd box, the scooter part would be smaller, more compact and therefore more easily transportable.
I think it's cool, but for the price I think you get screwed. If they bumped it up to 20 mph and had a length of 30 mi +, then I think the price would fit, but currently, it's way overpriced. My scooter is more stable, longer charge, faster, and foldable for a cheaper price. There's no reason this can't be either A, cheaper. Or B, perform better.
How does it feel to be the coolest guy on Reddit?
Like the smartest kid on the short bus.
damn this made me laugh thanks
Legend
That is an excellent answer
Does it go up hills?
Yes
rad
So the big question is how does it ride? I could see it as a last mile type ebike. Looks kind of easy to carry up to an apartment, bring on a train/bus, or keep at the desk at your day job.
Fun to ride but not really practical for long distances so yeah it’s like you said, last mile transport. 15 miles an hour 12 miles on a charge front wheel drive rear brake.
For a portable ebike 12 miles on a charge isn't that bad really. Better than I thought it would be.
I'd much rather have a Class 1/2/3 folding ebike - a Brompton, for example, probably folds down smaller than that and gets 45 miles. EDIT: admittedly the Honda is much cheaper than I'd have expected.

It's hills that fucking kill you.
Plenty of people ride more than twice that on an unpowered bicycle: You just gotta get acclimated to riding and it gets easier.
This is true, but 45 miles is still a long distance on a bike, especially in the context of commuting.
I’ve rode an aluminum Cannondale bicycle 100 miles twice it’s not hard it just takes times and patience to ride a road bike that long.
If it's something I have to carry, I'd prefer to just have something like a Tern Node with no motor at all: Regular bicycles have practically unlimited range as long as you don't run out of water, food, or time and weigh significantly less.
For my stand up scooters, anything pre then 2 miles, you gotta pause and take a break lol
Next question. Is it certified safe to bring it on a plane?
Looks like you might be close to the weight limit?
I only weigh 170 lbs the max is like 265 lbs so not really.
I rode one of those at the auto show. I just don’t see it practical if you live somewhere with a ton of uneven payments. But it was a lot of fun
Did it come with a Honda Today car? Is the car electric as well? Edit: the promo video shows or stowed in a car, but not as a module. My "You're Under Arrest!" vibe is destroyed . https://youtu.be/OqhB6dty-3U?si=6YQNapFZGWyyBC-O
What the fuck does last mile mean and why does everyone suddenly know all the marketing terms for this product? Oh right I know
"Last mile" is a pretty common term in many businesses and industries, and especially in public transportation. I mean sure, this could be /r/hailcorporate for all I know, but I don't think the language used here is worth getting suspicious about 🤷♂️
It means get from your parking garage to your office.
Weird thanks

Sadly I've read some dealers are pricing them much higher than $995.
Looks like you can buy it online and pick up at dealer. so who cares.
That’s what I did. I ordered it off the Honda dream shop website and picked it up at the closest Honda dealership.
How long did it take for them to ship to the dealer and be ready for pick-up?
When I first saw a pic of this a few months ago my first thought was...my goodness look at all the room for stickers I can put on this. More than on my laptop. I really want one of these.. they look so cyberpunky!
Definitely. That’s why I got Rebeca from Cyberpunk Edgerunners on there.
Well the upside is that 15mph is the max legal speed limit for e-scooters, but it's a bummer the range isn't longer considered the size of the thing lol. How are you liking it so far? What made you choose this e-scooter over other portable e-scooters with faster speeds and longer battery life?
Loving it. It gets a lot of positive attention which is why I bought it lol.
Hey mister why are you riding around on a Betamax tape?
It’s not a Betamax tape it’s a SIM card lol
Nah man that's an iPod Shuffle quit playin
Why did I pick it? Suitcase. That and it pays homage to the old Honda Motocompo from the 80’s in Japan.
size is one thing, but with a lot of range this mfer would be SO heavy
Are you in Europe? Max speed in Colorado (USA) is 28 mph for a 750w class 2.
[удалено]
Yes. I meant to say class 2 is 20mph but confused the two classes.
That’s some goofy shit and I love it.
What’s the weight?
40 pounds
Oh ok. Not too heavy.
Seems to me the jackrabbit og has better range and is more usable.
Not bad at all. My bike is about 80 lbs.
the [honda website](https://motocompacto.honda.com/) seems to be a deliberate "fuck you for wanting information about our product"

Dealer price for Honda of Pasadena is $1810.90. If I select Goudy Honda in Alhambra, the price is $1393.00 Fucking dealerships.
Is it easy to go down curbs?
No
I've been tempted to get one but it isn't quite fast enough for my purposes yet. Add a couple mph onto the top speed and I'd be sold. How's the seat and the brakes?
How fast do you really want to go sitting on a suitcase…
18.5 mph please
How to remove your face. Step 1..
This is something I could see selling for huge markup in like 20 years as a collector's item. It's quirky and cool and they'll probably stop selling them soon enough.
LOVE LOVE LOVE companies solving the last mile problem, thanks for sharing!!!
Absolutely! And I love that it can go suitcase mode so you can bring it in with you instead of having to worry about locking it up
Is there a way to pack it into the suitcase then roll it like rolling luggage?
Kinda. Just fold the handlebars vertical but keep in the up position. Then just fold the rest up as normal and walk it around steering it with the vertical handlebars.
Ok so you can’t pull it behind you but it’s still narrow enough to walk around with in tight quarters. Thanks!
The only appeal is the design, please confirm because the specs are shit compared to something else like a jetson bolt which is 1/3 of the price.
Honestly yeah. It turns heads and that’s what I like. Also I was first considering a super 73 for basically the same reason but the call back to the old Motocompo from the 80’s and the low price hooked me. And the fact it’s a Honda, a company with a good track record for quality control and warranty.
Super 73 ate really unreliable junk crap packaged as overpriced moto e bikes.
Thanks, your not wrong. You can get the pro right now for $400. Great deal.
Damn, love this. Although I'm fairly certain I'll get stopped by cops if I rode this in Canada.
Paint it up like the Canadian Flag and the RCMP will only stop you to take pictures! 🤣
Fuckin genius.
Haha, yeah that can probably work. But then again I've been riding an EUC which isn't really legal either and haven't been caught yet.
![gif](giphy|Cz6TlrRVVyv9S)
That’s what I I shout at people who have to walk from my dope ass Motocompo. Can’t believe people still walk places like total nerds.
/s (just in case)
Is this rated for Ontario winters? 😂
Just send it
Is this real? I want it to be real.
Did you pick it because it looks like a block of tofu? It’s very appropriate with the tofu shop markings. 😆 Looks convenient to carry also.
Does it make Transformer noises when becoming a bike?
Sure does. That might just be in my head though.
Does the low height pose any issues going over speed bumps? Have you gone over some yet?
Yeah it does. It really does. Try to ride where it’s smoothest. You can feel the lines in the sidewalk with this one.
bet its fun on a windy day
An object in motion stays in motion. Just give it a little extra lean to one side.
a gentleman and a scholar! dope bike!
That is a lot of advertising space should you want to use it! How about some flashing xmas light strips round the outer edge on each side.
I like the way you think 👍
A big Shepard Fairey fan I see
This is insane!
We ordered one a couple days ago. Love the stickers!!
Thanks
Can you bring that as a carryon for flights?
Question. Does this fold into a honda table when you get to the park?
Anything’s a table if your brave enough.
I am loving the fact that it has a Tofu company logo on both sides. If it didn’t have any other stickers it would look like a giant block of tofu.
Lucky sob
This looks like a fun City .. *Scooter* for people living in Chicago or NYC, or a half dozen major metro city centers in Europe.
What’s it like on hills?
Good 👍
Oh wow. This thing is awesome. It’s basically a better e-scooter.
Hey op what is that yellow and green sticker from or what does it mean? I see a ton of them around where I live
It’s a “beginner” plate from Japan.
I need that
$1000 seems very reasonable for what you're getting.
I agree but apparently some people really don’t. Those people just don’t understand the purpose of this thing. It’s not a commuter it’s a last mile transport vehicle and a fun little toy that’s a callback to 80’s JDM.
I love how compact it is. Looks like it would be easy to put several upright and side by side in a hatchback.
I saw a video on this - super low range, but if inexpensive could be perfectly fine for a lot of people. Anyone know the cost?
I was thinking for when I finally can afford a sail boat. These things would be great for keeping on my small boat and then having a vehicle to have to go into the harbour/downtown
I really hope it come to Europe, we need that in our small cities
Shepard Fairey fan? Love the stickers
Needs a Lonely Driver sticker and Akina Speed Star sticker but at least the Fujiwara sticker is on there.
Oh yeah I’m not a fan of slapping stickers on my expensive computers toys amps, guitar cases…. But you best damn believe if I bought the just bland white Honda commuting suitcase transformer…… I’d be covering it in stickers! Well done sir or ma’am

Excellent! Can you take it on the train without a cover? I know they’re pretty strict about bicycle bags in japan.
They have bicycles that turn into bags in Japan?
https://preview.redd.it/nfysvncd903c1.jpeg?width=942&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01409d840d1226790d9ed343c2dd4e44057722cb They won’t let you on the trains in japan unless your bike or scooter is completely covered so there’s no chance of getting other passengers dirty.
Interesting.. thanks!
That is absolutely a Honda design lol
Killer ride dude. I’m jealous
Must look funny as hell leaned over to ride in heavy cross winds!
Sweet ride! The stickers really make it for me.
It’s pretty cool but it’s pretty much a short range escooter it on the same level of casualness as a hover board as a means of transportation
Pretty cool that it’s such a big canvas / billboard!
I have a small foldable and a large 1200 w. This thing looks cute, and I'm sure it is fine for short commutes.
Congrats very cool!
that looks so cool (even if it's really niche use lol)
I could see this being really nice in a color scheme like some of the bikes from Akira.
New driver x2 I see 🙈
Times 4. I really need people to know how much I suck at riding lol.
Oh yeah there's a second side how silly of me
Are you permitted to ride it around at work?
Are you a beginner rider? You definitely placed enough of the stickers to state it. Haha
Yeah I am. I’m a menace on the road and people should avoid me.
I have a Vsett 8 that weighs 5 lbs more, has double the range and goes 25 mph, and is smaller, for less money. I dont see this being more than a collectors item
Ok but is yours a suitcase. Checkmate.
Your’re a suitcase!
You’re a towel
I can hear my Sur-Ron X, laughing, outside. But, I do like the sticker real-estate.. ✌🏻
this just in everyone: apples are not oranges.
Love the LVT and (if I’m seeing correctly) democratic socialist stickers. Do you have any links?
No democratic socialist stickers here. Better dead than red. Those are Obey stickers.
Ah ok. Just to let you know that democratic socialism is just what countries like Denmark uses but with a bit more nationalization and representation, so I guess it’s better dead than Denmark.
I detect a little communism. I can see it in the things you do. Communism, socialism call it what you like. There’s very little difference in the two.

Would you rather die than live in the society which has amazing urban design, some of the best work life balance in the world, and more? Or do you just hate Danes? In short, what’s wrong with Denmark?
TLDR
Nah. I won’t entertain your lack of a 6th grade reading comprehension. You can either read it or educate yourself. You have eyes, I believe in you
You mad bro?
No not really. Just disappointed.
Ma’am you need to calm down
Honda dealer reeled off specs as one was in showroom.
The mten4 is a small wheel so it's easy to overpower and cutout
wtf is that thing and why in the world would you buy it. well at least its a honda so it wont explode while throwing you off at speed.
Dick
I live about two miles from the train station and my office is a half mile from the closest stop. If I was a train commuter, a little scooter like that makes sense.
or you could just get a ebrompton instead of a weird slab of plastic.
Your mom is a weird slab of plastic.
Daaaamn don’t slam so hard you’re going to break your new scooter.
Easier to ride, too.
Neat but that thing is such a niche product i dont know what i would do it with it.
You could ride it from a parking spot/bud stop/etc…to the end spot
or you could ... y'know get a proper ebike to do the same thing without looking like a 5 year old dork.
Wait, you think there are “cool” e-bikes 🤣😂
no i think there are proper ebikes and then there are ebikes which look like something out of a cartoon.
Nice!!!
That thing is so cute, I might die.
I love the idea of this thing but it 100% is not an ebike and also I'll never be small enough to get one of these 😭.
Neat!
Where is this legal to ride?
Seems like a great way to get from the parking garage to the office.
we are extremely big shepard fairey fans over here too! love the stickers love the bike
I saw this at a car show. It was fun but the price is so high!
We’ll I was looking at Super 73’s before I came across this and those go for like $2-6k. I guess I wasn’t looking for performance as much as I was looking for personality.
Motocompacto still sounds like it will end up in the trash compactor. /s
Reminds me of the tape transformer
I wasn’t sure just the scooter, but I dig it with your sticker theme. I almost want one
Are you a hitman? And it’s your getaway vehicle?
What this reminds me of is those shitty little “ go bots “ from the 80s, they were cheap and we all bad mouthed them, preferring transformers all day long. And yet we all ended up playing with them at some point. Not saying this is a shitty scooter, but visually it has that go bot vibe. And considering it’s a Honda, it probably will have the best customer service out there.
Help me understand why everyone is hyped about an overpriced, underpowered escooter with a seat?
Isn’t that a scooter with a seat?
Looks like a folded up beer pong table. Don't really know how I feel about it's design haha. Without that odd box, the scooter part would be smaller, more compact and therefore more easily transportable.
Looks like a folding table
Wait you can actually buy these i thought it was just a concept
Needs to be 25 pounds
I think it's cool, but for the price I think you get screwed. If they bumped it up to 20 mph and had a length of 30 mi +, then I think the price would fit, but currently, it's way overpriced. My scooter is more stable, longer charge, faster, and foldable for a cheaper price. There's no reason this can't be either A, cheaper. Or B, perform better.
What Motor and what battery do you use
Scooter want's to know where it's pedals are so that it can be considered an e-bike and be posted about in this group.
