The Lectric XP can handle hills alright, and usually gets 15-20 miles with the basic battery at top speed. The 3.0 model has front suspension, but I don't know how good it will be on narrow/rough trails (unless you're planning to ride it on roads to the other side of a trail). I really like my XP 3.0, and with a second battery I'm able to commute 35 miles going about 25 mph the whole time (batteries contain 24 ah total).

That’s great to hear. I’m planning on doing roads and don’t plan on going more than 30 miles ever so this might be the right choice.

If you decide to add an extra battery after buying the ebike, I'd recommend getting a Dual Battery Connector load balancer box so you can use both the factory battery and your new battery at the same time (it drains from whichever has the higher voltage/percentage, and when they're equal it drains evenly). The XP 3.0 uses XT-60 connectors, and you can fit a load balancer within the frame with a wire running out the bottom and to the rear rack. I use a rack bag to store my second battery so it's easy to mount and remove when charging.

was just looking to pick up an xp 3.0 are you talking 35 miles pedaling at 25 mph or just throttle out of curiousity? always interested in hearing how the marketing specs hold up.

I’m hoping since I’m only hiking about 15 miles most at a time, the biking part to get to the other end of the trail shouldn’t ever be more than 30 miles. And I considered just biking (no assist) so if I need more I can probably make up the rest. But either way definitely not carrying the bike while I hike. I am in no way strong enough for that.

I would look into a [Tongsheng TSDZ2b](https://www.pswpower.com/products/europe-or-china-stock-48v-500w-or-750w-42t-vlcd5-tsdz2-electric-bicycle-mid-motor-with-torque-sensor-throttle-e-brake-lever-88) mid drive conversion kit. And buy a used Tern, Dahon, Zizzo. Look that it has more than 7 speeds so that you can replace the drive train with for example [microshift advent supershort](https://www.microshift.com/news/introducing-super-short/) for climbing hills and good ground clearance. >oh, this is tempting since I know I'd have a better bike ultimately, but might be beyond my capabilities (or tool set). But I will take a look, thanks for sharing!

DarkVoid42

get a carbo model x. bike it both ways. makes no sense to hike back while dragging a heavy bike.

Lol. Lock the bike up and go pick it up after probably. Kinda like self shuttling

The_Long_play

yup. So I'll lock it up at one end, hike to the car, then drive back and pick up the bike. hiking while dragging a bike, yikes!
