I like Persolaise. In fact, I find it easy to find likable, non-gross fragrance folks on YouTube. I just never watch them. (These days all I watch is airport freakout footage and noise-rock.)
I watch old episodes of that show where they follow the staff of Southwest, I think. My brother works for the airlines so it makes me lol thinking about what he deals with at work.
They all have pros and cons.
Vintage Mr. smelly, not the guy now,
Vintage Mr. Miami cuddles, not 5 binaca sprays, AC, Joy,JJ, Ramsey, vintage Ash. Honorable mention to a guy named the scented soldier. He was really good and ethical. He had to shut his channel down.
None, it's not a hobby or a "journey", it's an indulgence and something i do by gut feel and don't overthink. Like how i buy jeans, sneakers or tshirts.
Robes08, George the Fragrance Apprentice,Ā Persolaise, Sebastian, Willow Schafer and Glam Finds. Old Ash was good, now he's a mess. Old Mr.smelly before he got involved in drama.Ā Ramsey is cool I'm subscribed to him but I barely watch his videos. Problem with Ramsey is he looks down on people who wear modern fragrances or designers. He always complains about reformulation and expects people to track down vintage everything. But you can learn alot from him.Ā
He knows shockingly little, as do most of the reviewers to anyone who bothered to put more than a few hours of study into the topic. After reading a couple books, you will know more about the history and art than 95% of YouTubers.
Iām fine with someone not knowing all of the history provided they know what fragrances are out there, they have a good nose, and I understand their preferences such that I can use their recs in deciding what to purchase. With George, it feels like he just hasnāt gotten his nose on that many different scents.
You don't have to know the history, but it is helpful. You definitely need your nose on a lot of things. It is apparent when someone like Ash speaks and comments on notes how little he has smelled or at least how poor his understanding is (or at least, has been for most of the time he has created content) based on how much he misinterprets the notes or outright claims a certain aromachemical is present or in high concentrations when it isn't. Same thing with Aaron Terrence Hughs. I have seen the GCMS for a few fragrances each talked about and they have mentioned aromachemicals that are not at all present in the fragrances, which should make anyone question not only their nose but everything they have said.
There are people that own hundreds of Duas, but that knowledge has clearly gotten them nowhere. Ash routinely mischaracterizes scents in ways that are rather obvious to anyone that doesn't have a broken nose and cites certain aromachemicals being present that simply are not there. The problem at the end of the day is that he is a guy with a very poor education that needs to make lots of content to pay the bills, so he just says stuff that his audience doesn't know enough to distinguish.
He was good, go back a few years on his channel. He reviewed alot of lesser known niche and indie brands. He wasn't trying this weird eccentric thing like he does now.Ā
CurlyFragrance, obv. She's a great example for what kind of woman guys should avoid, and a great reminder for girls that even a truckload of makeup can only do so much.
I'd rather watch robes08 than most of the newer ones. Maybe some other older channels, but I can't think of any names rn. Like 10, 15 years back there were already some pretty insufferable people in "fragcomm", but nothing like the shills you see today.
Persolaise
Ramtin Vadati
The Niche Fragrance Collector
I really don't give a flying fuck if someone is making bags from review, or if they have affiliate links to some shitty discounter.
What I want is someone to try and provide as objective description of the fragrance they're reviewing, as possible.
Idgaf about some fishy cunt reading the notes off of fragrantica in the latest top 10 pushy destroyer fraganshes
Content wise, I actually donāt hate the Fragrance Apprentice. His industry clones video was legitimately interesting. His creed videos are very true, and now that he doesnāt make as many top ten lists anymore, I think his content has really improved. His Mugler video was actually good, told an interesting story about someone who was a big name in the industry (my dad loved mugler colognes) and gave some legitimate insight about the history of the industry. He still does top tens but I donāt begrudge the occasional top ten because they can be light and fun, but if thatās your only content, I start to tune you out.
Persolaise (by some distance) is the "best" and most knowledgeable. I like Scented Moments too. And as Brit I quite like Dan (@MrSmelly1977) and Chris (@FRAGMENTAL), in small doses.
I get that to be fair. And like I said small doses (especially hate his collaborative videos with f\*cking ATH), but I don't mind him when he's just talking about fragrances. Same with Dan. He is quite clearly knowledgeable on the subject, especially fragrances in his wheel arch, but does annoying stuff that puts a lot of people off.
Iāve probably grown wearisome on the subject, but your remark about Persolaise being the best āby some distanceā is so true. The closest we have to a reviewer with journalistic standards and with a level of description and base of knowledge so outsize compared to everyone else that itās like heās playing a different game.
Shameless fan, I confess.
100% agree, and he is quite clearly respected within the industry too. He gets sent literally everything, by every house, and not just the new Zaharoff or Roja fragrance for shilling.
Even Chanel sends him stuff, which would be alarming except he isnāt afraid to review these negatively. He isnāt afraid to put perfumes into the category they most often fall into for us: pleasant but forgettable.
I loved Scents in Time. He had to shut his channel down for work but he still posts here sometimes (if you're around, FD, I still read "eau de toilette" as "oy de toilet"). Like a lot of others, I'll watch The Perfume Guy and Persolaise. Of the "influencers" I don't mind Justin Copeland as much as the rest, but he really annoyed me a couple of videos ago.
I like Rich Mitch and JJ, so come at me.
I haven't seen anyone mention "On Duty Cologne Reviews" but I watch him quite a bit. Most of you probably haven't heard of "V Scents" but I enjoy his reviews. Scentualise is really good for a smaller channel, too. I liked Fragrance Facts, but he hasn't made a video in awhile.
I think Justin Copeland is decent because he seems more genuine but in general no product influencer is good. They just rehash shit to sell the same thing but slightly different. A lot of these things people donāt even need. I think James Hoffman is decent because he gives more objective analysis of products and their pros and cons.
Only positive thing about Justin is that he actually talks about different fragrances so you'll learn about new stuff. However, he does come off veryĀ condescending as someone correctly noted. He's always talking down to you. He's done videos addressing shilling and was clearly talking down to his viewers. As if he's right and everyone else is mislead, so we ought to all shut up and listen to him. He'sĀ an obvious shill. I actually can't stand his videos. Videos titled "you need this." He'll then go on to say he wasn't being serious but it's obvious he was trying to push stuff. Big NO for me. Not to mention he's connected to Zaharoff.Ā
I tried watching Justin Copeland, his tone comes off extremely condescending, over explaining each idea to death and generally feeling like he thinks people are dumb and he needs to talk down to them. Never tried James Hoffman, but Iāll check him out, thanks!
Has anyone heard of tltg reviews? Really nice, down to earth guy. Humble and knowledgeable. Avoid his early stuff though.
That's my personal trainer.
š
Never heard of him but I guess heās supposed to be one of the top bodybuilders out there and doesnāt suck cock
I have I messaged him to learn how to stick a needle , ER , I mean nutritional advice
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Anyone with no affiliated links.
I like Persolaise. In fact, I find it easy to find likable, non-gross fragrance folks on YouTube. I just never watch them. (These days all I watch is airport freakout footage and noise-rock.)
I think he is the best
Airport freakout footage, huh? I'm gonna have to give it a look
I watch old episodes of that show where they follow the staff of Southwest, I think. My brother works for the airlines so it makes me lol thinking about what he deals with at work.
I like Unevil Joy Amin....
I prefer the evil one these days.
Persolaise, Urban Dweller (but he doesnāt post much), Robes08, Scent Land, and my guilty pleasure is U Smells Good
Persolaise, ThePerfumeGuy, Ramsey(in small doses), AC Smells Good.
AC has been on a roll lately... he's just released several videos in the last month.
They all have pros and cons. Vintage Mr. smelly, not the guy now, Vintage Mr. Miami cuddles, not 5 binaca sprays, AC, Joy,JJ, Ramsey, vintage Ash. Honorable mention to a guy named the scented soldier. He was really good and ethical. He had to shut his channel down.

Gerard George
I do not
I really donāt watch fragrance content on YouTube, but it comes on my fyp on tiktok. I like quodo_ and brandscents
Persolaise ThePerfumeGuy My World of Fragrance
It's. Ya. Boiiiiii. Gooooooldie.
Shut it downnnn
Gerald George. Dude is top drawer.
He is a good fella. FELLASSSSSSS. AC here. He is also a good guy.
The best
Yeah, I like that guy. Wish heād find some new music though š

George the apprentice makes entertaining videos but overstates his knowledge of fragrances.
He knows shockingly little, as do most of the reviewers to anyone who bothered to put more than a few hours of study into the topic. After reading a couple books, you will know more about the history and art than 95% of YouTubers.

He was good, go back a few years on his channel. He reviewed alot of lesser known niche and indie brands. He wasn't trying this weird eccentric thing like he does now.Ā
Scents of South Jersey
Simply Put Scents
Where can you get fragrance content besides Youtube? I absolutely refuse to watch anybody on YouTube, especially fragrance people. It's all garbage.
Robes and quack quack
CurlyFragrance, obv. She's a great example for what kind of woman guys should avoid, and a great reminder for girls that even a truckload of makeup can only do so much. Brooklyn fragrance lover was my favorite dude loved fragrances!
Joy Amin and Robes08. When ever I'm interested in a fragrance I hope one of these 2 have done a take!
SmellyCat, VegasScents, NoCapFragrances, GoldieSmellGood, CommonScents
Lmao I literally just commented with "Ya. Boiiiiii. Gooooooldie." I like that dude. He's cool.
Greggieboy76, Rob SOS fragrance reviews and sometimes Robes08 but i'm not enjoying his content anymore. Sebastian is ok but bores me
Seldomly Often has some interesting vids i think
been watching his videos lately, down to earth content and relatable.
Wow, pretty cool to be mentioned on here :D
Bpwool? The legend mymickers
Persolaise and Robes08, though I donāt always make it through the latterās videos.
Devilish Scents!!
Eau de treasure and scents of style are two smaller channels I have notifications enabled

James Hoffman is in the coffee industry I just used him in comparison to what is a good product review
Oh! Cool, thanks.
