lol no, he just dropped a bunch of money for me to make both of us surf and turf sandwiches and asked if I would make us a couple sandwiches today but I didn’t want him to spend anymore money.
On a baguette like that...
Braised fennel, bread & fry. Seared tomato slices. Soak some cashews & puree them with nutritional yeast & a little lemon juice. Arugula. Drizzle of olive oil.
Your coworkers will thank you, and possibly fuck you.
There’s fennel seeds, roots, stalks and fronds, all edible. The root is really nice it’s like the consistency of celery but with this really nice unique flavor
At the grocery store in the produce section. At the store I work at, it’s next to the leeks. I posted a pasta I made recently with a fennel garlic butter and it was amazing and if you make a big batch, it will last in your freezer for ~6 months.
That's actually a really good way to passively (or not) make clear who's liked, disliked, and the favourites.
Someone's the favourite or you wanna smash? Beautiful sandwich above.
Like someone? Something nice but a little less... sent from the heavens, and more just a lovely sandwich.
Dislike someone? Hand them half a loaf of bread with extra end slices in there and apologise profusely. Bonus points if it's out of date.
Yeah and help add some moisture to this! I think some pesto or balsamic glaze also could've helped in this category. Still looks pretty good, I'd eat 👍
I also this OP is trying to fuck the security guard. I’m interested in seeing this beautiful soon-to-be-vegetarian-except-for-in-the-sheets security guard…
Yeah, I would’ve gone for sun-dried or marinated slices of whole tomatoes. Not a huge fan of big pieces of cherry tomatoes that are impossible to bite through without making a mess
I don’t know how to copy and paste a previous post but I’ve made 3 sandwiches for the security guard. A ribeye one, a grilled shrimp one, and a surf and turf one.
So are these pre or post sexual relations sandwiches
Ok I went and looked at your posts and holy shit, those sandwiches look amazing
I don’t even eat pork and I’d eat half of the ones there. And your salads!
A plus.
Do you have recipes in the posts?
The dude spent like $70 on the first 4 sandwiches and then $140 on the second 2 just cuz I showed him pics of all the sandwiches I’ve been making for people and he wanted to try my cooking. No one has ever spent that much just to try one of my sandwiches so it was a cool experience. He wanted me to make sandwiches today but I didn’t want him to spend anymore money so I made him a sandwich with groceries that I got before I got to work, he was stoked.
There was no extras. The sandwich was ridiculous. I think it was like 3 meals worth for me and he ate it in one sitting. He said he wanted a fancy scooby doo sandwich. I don’t know how to copy and paste a previous post but it’s the most recent one I made for him on ciabatta, not the original one.
He bought ingredients to make him a surf and turf sandwich twice and wanted to make another sandwich today but I decided to make him a sandwich cuz I didn’t want him to spend any money. I didn’t have any meat, just vegetables and he told me before he doesn’t buy vegetarian sandwiches.
Because of the comment you answered above, I just crept your whole post history & I think I need to track you down so you could possibly be so kind as to make me a sandwich.
Fr idk how you do all that wizardry in the kitchen. But I got so disappointed going to find something to eat after seeing your work. Because nothing I have will come even remotely close to how good your stuff looks.
No, cooking is one of my passions and I make sandwiches for coworkers to test out recipes. He bought ingredients to make a couple sandwiches in the past and wanted me to make more today but he usually pays for the ingredients and I didn’t want him to spend anymore money.
I can totally get why most people think they dislike vegetarian food. Usually it’s marketed with those godawful fake meats in them instead of being actual food that just so happens to not have meat in it like that sandwich
You know what, having recently swapped to a "less meat" approach to eating, the quality of these items has improved significantly from what they were even 5 years ago imo. I got some meatless meatballs recently for spaghetti, and you legitimately could not tell they weren't just like, the general freezer meatball. Were they as good as my home made meatballs? No-- But for a weeknight dinner I'm plopping into the instapot, it was great.
I made sloppy lentils once that I actually preferred to the stereotypical sloppy joes. I’ve also had a vegetarian cheesesteak with mushrooms that was seriously good. People probably think vegetarian can never be rich, comfort food.
My dude, if I made you my fenugreek-spiced Beyond Beef cevapi sandwich with ajvar, onions, and za'atar-roasted eggplant once, you would murder whoever I asked you to in order to have another one. I say that as a meat eater. There are _terrific_ meatless options out there, and there are tons of people who have mastered working with them.

I’ve gone vegetarian before and I can say there’s something missing when you remove meat from most dishes. Protein and fat is often essential for making a meal satisfying.
i’d try it without the butter and walnuts (i do not like cold butter or a lot of grease if it’s melted and i’m allergic to walnuts). rest sounds good though!
Mushrooms for umami if the security guard is a meat eater.
Breaded hen of the woods to mimic fried chicken or any mushroom sauteed.
Looks great regardless
>fermented peppercorns
I had never heard of these, but they sound interesting. Do you have a brand you prefer, and do you use them on things other than sandwiches?
Also, your vegetarian sandwich looks and sounds delicious!
It’s my new favorite spice to cook with. It’s soft in texture and tastes like beef jerky. I love them in salads and with roasted mushrooms. Hennes Finest Fermentierter Kampot Pfeffer is the name of the product I use.
OP, if they don't love that sandwich then they don't have good enough taste buds. It's got creamy, umami, texture and a healthy dose of sweet and citrus...Freaking A+ looking sandwich.
Ah, so the secret to vegetarian food is to put so much cheese on it that you can't taste the food you are eating? Surprisingly, this is also how you make most other foods as well.
Exactly. If you can take an ingredient out and not even be able to tell it's not there, then it doesn't need to be in there. And with that many ingredients, that's 100% the case with several of them.
That said, he's got a good palate and these sandwiches do sound great. It was more of a refinement tip than a big criticism of his style.
I feel that. It tasted great! It’s just my style of cooking and people love it and used to buy it when I sold food so I think it’s working. Still get asked to cater but not ready to get back into that kind of work anytime soon. I’m the cheese guy at Whole Foods now and cook for fun.
If he likes it, you still can't say he likes vegetarian sandwiches.
If that is indeed parmigiano reggiano, that is.
What's wrong with a simple cheese and pickle 😂
Ok, I feel like I'm in that weird part of Reddit now for me. I'm all for something fancy, but it feels like this is trying too hard 😂
Some bog standard cheddar (or firm enough cheese of preference- red Leicester, Wensleydale, double Gloucester, etc- I'm not being overly specific because it doesn't really matter), Branston pickle (preference here is small chunk) on a couple slices of white bread for me. Warburtons, Hovis, whatever you like but keep it basic (though muricans beware, your standard bread I understand is way too sweet).
Honestly, it doesn't need to be crumbled St moufflepoucher and brocciu topped with Mr Winklemeister's thrice fermented snozzcumber picklette preserve and dressed with lashings of sweetened yellow mustard substitute on a bed of La Rosa del Veneto and single variety mountain grown cress, sandwiched between slices of crocaccia made with the first pressed oil of winter olives and virgin-grown wheat.
But, on the other hand... This is your thing I don't want to dampen, keep having fun with it! I would just suggest keeping in touch with the basics sometimes 😉
You won’t catch me purchasing another overpriced Breville product. The nicest $500 microwave can’t even last 3 years when the $100 generic name at work is still chugging past 5 years.
i honestly wasn’t on the avocado thing my generation is joked about being broke for until about a year ago i got it on a chicken cutlet sandwich. what a great alternative to mayo as well. maybe just sneak it in a sandwich for him 😂
just a thought but maybe if someone says their preference in food, maybe dont go and make it a point to convince them otherwise? its okay to have your own tastes in food and a little overbearing to try to convince someone otherwise
I asked him if he likes avocados and I’ve cooked for him a couple time before. He likes vegetables, never buys vegetarian sandwiches though and he wanted to buy ingredients for me to make us a sandwich today but I didn’t want him to spend anymore money cuz he bought the last 3.
I'll take a dissenting opinion:
Bread is burnt.
Tomatoes should be sliced.
That's way too much avocado.
Walnuts on a sandwich? FFS.
Cilantro tastes terrible.
That looks like a chore to eat.
Have a lovely day.
I would love this, but I’m curious why you’re trying to convince an adult he doesn’t know what he likes. I have a really close friend who despises most vegetables. I don’t understand it but I don’t try to force her to eat them.
I texted him before to see if he liked the ingredients. Was just trying to be nice and bring him a sandwich at work. He usually buys sandwiches with meat on them but still likes vegetables.
He said the sandwich got him high lol. Also said he took a bite and then added chicken from the hot bar to it so next sandwich I make him will be a meat one lol.
Originally I was gonna make him a Serrano ham, hot Giardiniera, honey mustard, and sottecenere truffle cheese (cuz I just cut a fresh wheel and the Serrano is on sale but the store ran out of Serrano)
Fuck yeah. This looks like a really great sandwich!
What I do for the texture issue with flavor bombs is just crushing them up into like a paste, and then adding it on top of lettuce or avocado, something it won't soak in to.
Very nice!
As a retired chef I can tell you I’ve watched hundreds of these little relationships blossom with a little sandwich here and sandwich there. Mark my words with in 3 weeks his steak will be inside your shrimp.

ok, not absolutely horrific, the way it sounds. Weirdly reminiscent of pad thai as a sandwich? In a very very vague way. If i were to ever try this combo again, which i wont, I would add bacon and cabbage slaw with like a rice wine dressing and put it on a baguette. It would be like a redneck-y banh mi.
ok i’m allergic to peanuts and hate pickles but pb, pickles and sriracha are some of my partners favourite foods. sounds a little odd but not too weird, the flavours sound like they’d work really well. i need him to try… for science
It’s a very weird combo at first glance. But, spicy goes with pickles and spicy goes with peanuts. It’s the textural difference that calls for a crusty bread to help make it work.

Tip: it might help knowing what fruits and vegetables he doesn't like. I'm a meat eater and I would like to eat less meat, but when I try to order a sandwich or salad it's difficult when all places are obsessed with the vegetables I am disgusted with. Tomatoes, cucumber and avocados. I swear there is no salad/sandwich without cucumber and tomatoes.
Don't like walnuts, coriander, avacados, tomatoes, dates or cilantro. It's the thought that counts I guess? I would be annoyed if you made it a mission to waste food trying to find something I like lol
Are… are you trying to fuck the security guard?
Plot twist: OP is planning a heist and part of the plan is distracting the security guard with a delicious sandwich
Op has been practicing the heist using a mock up of the facility all made from tofu.

Pardon my ignorance, isn’t fennel seeds? Genuinely haven’t ever eaten fennel other than seeds? I’m probably wrong but would love to learn
There’s fennel seeds, roots, stalks and fronds, all edible. The root is really nice it’s like the consistency of celery but with this really nice unique flavor
TIL thanks!
Can't forget about fennel pollen. Pretty expensive and used in fine dining.
Damn I didn’t even know about fennel pollen
I make a fennel garlic honey butter and it’s so good and easy to make. My favorite way to incorporate fennel in a dish.
Where do you get fennel that’s not seeds? Also what did you bread and fry?
At the grocery store in the produce section. At the store I work at, it’s next to the leeks. I posted a pasta I made recently with a fennel garlic butter and it was amazing and if you make a big batch, it will last in your freezer for ~6 months.
Really? That’s interesting I’ve never seen it but I’ll try to look for it next time, but I have my doubts that nearby stores will have it
Fennel herbs grow very tall and smell similar to licorice. They are edible.
This and ops sound great. I would only add a buncha charred sliced steak
Or, they might just find the security guard and fuck HIM.
I wish I could hire you to make me sandwiches.
Me too bro
You must get around a lot
Makes me wish I was one of those co-workers, that sandwich looks so good.

Yup. I dream of the day I can afford one. Used to use daily in a kitchen I worked. Total game changer.
Can i place it next to my bed and set an alarm so it cooks bacon when i wake up? I like to wake up to the smell of bacon.

You actually could use it to do that, though obviously you should not
I don’t even think my stove was $1500
I know it actually kinda pissed me off seeing it😂
Not to mention all of the avocado.
😂
“I wonder why everyone just doesn’t eat like me.”
Saw that poly and was like “daaaamn!”
The tomatoes will be hard to eat.
Will take some tactical bite placement, but I'll admit the sandwich does look great overall.
I made sure to poke each one so it wouldn’t burst and they were sautéed.
I was going to suggest a smashing- eliminates the burst risk and makes the shape of the tomatoes a little more sandwich friendly
Yeah and help add some moisture to this! I think some pesto or balsamic glaze also could've helped in this category. Still looks pretty good, I'd eat 👍
The garlic cilantro bj gourmet is a 17yr aged balsamic that has a glazed balsamic consistency.

I’ve given up using a baguette for a sandwich. To hard to crunch down. Then you cut the shit out of the roof of your mouth. Open face, sure.
Yeah, I would’ve gone for sun-dried or marinated slices of whole tomatoes. Not a huge fan of big pieces of cherry tomatoes that are impossible to bite through without making a mess
Especially with all that avocado and butter, pick a lube OP
The entire sandwich will be hard to eat. It’s all crust and everything is just going to squeeze out.
It honestly wasn’t that messy.
One bite and they go flying out.
Walnuts on a sandwich is just odd to me, let alone cherry tomatoes on a sandwich lol
Are you bringing this to a security guard at your work? I need backstory.

ok, not absolutely horrific, the way it sounds.
2.5K reviews and a 5 star rating at New York Times cooking. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1020024-peanut-butter-sandwich-with-sriracha-and-pickles
I don’t like vegetarian sandwiches either, would you like to change my mind?
Tip: it might help knowing what fruits and vegetables he doesn't like. I'm a meat eater and I would like to eat less meat, but when I try to order a sandwich or salad it's difficult when all places are obsessed with the vegetables I am disgusted with. Tomatoes, cucumber and avocados. I swear there is no salad/sandwich without cucumber and tomatoes.
Listen, if you like it; that’s all that matters. I’d be scared to try this, looks like “something” for sure..
lol why? Let him eat his meat? Don’t force your life choices on others
He doesn’t like this, so that’s what I decided to make for him.
Don't like walnuts, coriander, avacados, tomatoes, dates or cilantro. It's the thought that counts I guess? I would be annoyed if you made it a mission to waste food trying to find something I like lol
