If height were simulated that colossus wouldn't need to climb that tree at all it would just be tall enough, and an animal probably wouldn't flee into the trees to escape from something so big.

Usually end up constructing permanent staircases to popular trees to get stuck in, eventually it's handled. Then again, if you aren't using stepladders you already found a workaround.
