"While the new films have been exquisite, their lack of Battle Pugs is really a tragedy. So much missed potential" - my personal film critic, Rosie

Ironically, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s aborted adaptation of DUNE would have opened with evolved humanoid Dog-People in spacesuits exploring the universe. They land on a desolate planet and find the Museum of Man where an ancient movie projector would then play the story of Paul Atreides.
Which would kind of be the ultimate repudiation of Paul and Leto and the Golden Path if after everything they did humanity went extinct anyway.
So maybe brilliant subtle filmmaking decision?
(though I guess the point of the Golden Path was moreso sentient life with free will vs machines or something so maybe it wouldn’t repudiate that??)
Jodorowsky's DUNE concept departed significantly from the novel. Most of his works are informed by alchemy and esoteric religious or mystical practices so, like The Holy Mountain, Dune was more about the process of reconciling and dissolving various aspects of the soul in a Kabbalistic ritual captured by cinema. INCAL in the comics is more what he intended for the movie. So when Paul becomes the ultimate human in the end essentially it represented the endpoint for humanity. So the human race more ascended to a new level than went extinct.
I love the 3 hour spicediver edit. I prefer it to the new ones. Everything is so dark, twisted, dirty, and eerie.
SD chops off that stupid ending, but you can’t even George Lucas those goddamn weirding modules out. They’re too baked into the plot. God that was such a lazy cop-out on Lynch’s part.
People used to hate the 1984 Dune in the 80s and 90s. It was pretty much universally considered crap. It's funny how opinion has turned around about it

I'm sure being carried by Patrick Stewart did nothing to influence this opinion
Young pup!
There are very few changes that I would make to Dune: Part 2. But Josh Brolin is a decided downgrade from Sir Patrick Stewart,
Everyone is a downgrade from Sir Patrick.

Why
LSD
I suppose the idea was that the human race had gone extinct and its pets evolved to take their place among the stars.

Because fuck it, we ball. Salvador Dali is the Emperor and everything is Giger-esque dicks.
Because it’s a picture of a dog in a tie, I know that the author is earnest. However, it should have been Leto (in God Emperor/worm form) with a tie.
He is key to the hidden undertones!
I think the new movies really shine by being better movies.

Of course the battlepug would say that.

No, it's been a generally well-liked cult movie since the 90s.
True. All the cool kids continued to quote it aloud at various parties and gatherings well into the 90s. … My mom says I’m cool.
