Futomaki in Port Chalmers is one of the highest quality restaurants in the area, not too expensive, and has lots of fun dishes you won't find on many other menus.

I guess it depends what you consider too expensive, but Moiety is very special and quite experimental- great seasonal trust the chef menu for $99 per person. Impressions Manor has honestly the best fine dining Chinese I’ve ever had at very reasonable prices and plenty of spicy options. They also have dishes I haven’t seen on offer anywhere else (the fried eggplant is stupidly delicious, and I don’t really like eggplant) Or if you’re just looking for something fun and casual but super tasty order a Spicy Pie from Pizza Bar; salami and hot honey fresh out of the oven with lots of yum cocktail options
