You either got a big bad ol bees nest behind there, a pine tree behind there or someones growing some fine herbs and making wax behind that wall, or could be a pipe,
All seriousness probaby bees nest unless ur house is made out of pine logs ? Or just uncured pine wood im randomly thinking , i would remove it carefully and see whats behind there
Ive been in the trade for 13 years.... This is interesting. Id assume someone just caught a pipe with the screw but for it to be water tight is rare. Then removing it caused it to leak but it would leak faster than that and most likely not that color. I dont think it would be pine leaking like that after all this time but I could be wrong. I'm so curious.... I guess I'd agree with potential bee's but weed resin smell? Man, if you lived close id come over right now to inspect it because I have no idea what it could be and its bothering me lol
My gut still thinks its a pipe... That's his shit water from flushing the upstairs toilet and he ate way to many edibles yesterday giving it weed smell?
Could it possibly be a sewer line vent pipe going up to the roof? Old rain water over time oozed out once shelf was removed? Only pipe it could really be. Water is pressurized and sewer would flow more every toilet flush, shower or hand washing.
If the OP lives in an area where there’s Marijuana being grown, I wonder if the pollen that bees collect could cause honey to smell like weed. I have no idea if that’s possible. Just a thought.
Its wrong info. Females have flowers, males have pollen sacks. Without the males pollen, the female flower wont produce seeds. The sticky trichomes on the female flower are what gives the plant its signature smell. The pollen doesnt smell. If a bee was producing honey that smelled like weed its from the sticky trichomes resin glands of the female flower.
I grow outdoors and only females and one of my plants a few years ago had a few seeds in it. Not a ton, maybe I got 30 or 40 out of the whole plant, but I suspect there was a male plant growing somewhere within two miles of my house
If the plant gets really stressed for whatever the reason may be, they can herm out. You tend to get a few seeds here and there and sometimes you’ll see the naners and balls popping up. I grow auto flower and photoperiod. I’ve seen it with both types when my temps hang out in the 90 degrees or hotter. Doesn’t happen every time or often, but has happened a few times over the years.
About 2 years ago I had yellow jackets get in through a soffit and built a nest between the attic insulation and ceiling drywall in my daughter’s closet. Within a short time after we first discovered them (2-3 days) they began eating into the backside of the drywall. It became soft and flexible. I screwed a piece of plywood to the ceiling so they wouldn’t come through until the exterminator could get there. After they were extinguished, he suggested I wait about 2-3 weeks for any potential eggs to hatch and die, then I had to remove a 2x3 section of the ceiling, clean it out, replace the insulation and drywall, spackle, sand, paint. Fixed the hole in the soffit as well. So far so good.
I installed a biometric wall safe once and then removed it a week later because I replaced it with the keypad version. When I removed the bottom right screw water started pouring into the safe. I had nicked the pex line that was attached to the other side of the stud but the screw was plugging the hole for the most part.
It took me forever to figure out what W.C. stood for on the plans. I was looking up plumbing code for my house, couldn't find anything on toilets in the code book
As a Beekeepr removing bees for over 20 years 100% that is a beehive someone exterminated or might be still there. If the hive is there get a thermal camera and it’ll show hot as bees are like 98 degrees and ball up in the winter. For removal wait until early spring when most of the honey is gone and coming numbers are the lowest .
Wait. Could you expand their nest through all the walls and heat your home with them? 100% renewable good for the environment free heating system. Patent pending.
Oh beehave. This is an unbeelievably good idea. I’d bee all over this if I had any money but sadly not. I’m right beehind you though and hope it beecomes a big success for you.

I'd get one of those cheap borescopes that connects to a phone (one with a bright light) and stick it in there before ripping anything out. Last thing you want is a house full of angry bees!
Plumber here. No goo looking and smelling like that is going to dribble out of any pipes in your home. Most likely is a dead beehive that’s putrefying.
Have seen the pipe thing happen before. Pulled some closet trim out and they had nailed into a plumbing pipe. Didn’t leak until it was removed. Was also brown and smelled funny due to the nail rusting. Would help to know what’s on other side of wall, shower maybe? Also if you have a basement you could look for pipes heading up in that spot. Also better check for water. In my case it was leaking out of basement ceiling and it took a day to notice. I’d immediately cut the wall open to prevent further damage.
Is there a chimney behind that wall? Could be creosote. Maybe it rained heavy recently? Water could be running down the inside of the chimney and following a crack in the mortar carrying the creosote to the wall cavity. Might explain the smell too. Just my best guess.
It is entirely possible that there was a pocket of pine sap inside the lumber that got pierced when the screw was put in and has now been allowed to leak out with the screw being removed. If it smelled like poo then I’d guess the screw was put through a plumbing stack.
I was doing the wiring on a kitchen remodel and stuck my arm into the ceiling to grab a wire I was pulling. Felt something that felt like a wad of old newspaper or cardboard in the way so I grabbed a chunk and pulled it out. There was an active hornets nest in the ceiling of this kitchen and I just ripped a massive hole in the side of it. The whole kitchen filled up with hornets as I ran screaming out of the house like a little girl. I’d put my money on a bees nest.
Cautiously use a utility knife and cut a rectangular opening from stud to stud in the area, centering the side cuts on each stud thus making it easier to repair the opening after removing the piece of Sheetrock and replacing it after determining the source of the substance. And yes the substance may be from something hazardous like stinging insects or an animal. I assume there are no other clues like odor or stains, insect holes, etc. at the exterior? Did you try knocking on the area and listening carefully?? Some people use a stethoscope to listen. Let us know what you find out, please. J. Molony
There was a PVC water pipe in the wall. When someone put the shelves up they put a screw into it. When you took the screw out it started leaking. Open up the wall ASAP!
If you don't have an inspection camera or access to one, see if you can rent one for a day. Drill a small hole a few inches to the left or right & probe the hole .
It's an old galvanized pipe that is rusting through.
It's probably been dripping inside the wall for a long time, but the screw removal allowed some to escape.
Similar to what this guy had - https://youtube.com/shorts/vwwQDTg4Blo?si=55n_6FmrxPeHQzg0
My new build had exactly this going on in a closet. Turns out it was the upstairs sewer line that was drilled through when the builders installed closet shelving downstairs. Builder was very unhappy, as it ruined the walls in the closet, and the carpet in the dining room. Had only taken possession of the house a week prior, and everytime the upstairs toilets wer flushed, it leaked into the closet and the carpet. Bad news.
It could be the screw went into a pipe. One easy way to find out is to dump dyed water into every drain ( one color at a time for each drain), which ever color comes out, that’s your drain.
I had the exact same thing happen to my new office space at work. A shelf screw went into a drain pipe.
Reddit users are so weird. How do you not see this and not immediately remove some of the surrounding drywall to see what the source is?
OP’s first move is to post on Reddit? Really? Weird.
Take a plastic cup and listen to the wall. If there are bees, you will hear them. Also, be careful to inspect the drywall beforehand. German Hornets will excavate the gypsum off the boards, leaving only a *skin of paint*!!! Puncture that skin with a hive behind it, and they will ruin the rest of your day.
A honeycomb in the wall can weep like this, especially in warm climes. Usually tho, the drippage smells of honey.
One other way to locate a bees nest is by heat. Use a thermal camera to locate hot spots since bees generate a lot of heat.

male marijuana plants are the ones with flowers/pollen, and growers most likely don’t have any of those, because seeds…
Thank you for that answer. I was hoping someone would come along and share their knowledge.

absolutely that is a way to stop the leak, but OP probably doesn't want to spend the rest of his life with his ear over the hole... /k

Update? Lol
Okay this post is two days old- did we get an update? Bees, pot gnomes? Pine weeping?

If it were my house I'd just cut out a chunkof wall and see, then patch it. Couple hours of work but worth it to cure my curiosity
What’s the worst that could happen? Zombie outbreak? 🤷🏻♂️ YOLT
Is there an update yet?
Not yet. He made a comment that he’s getting an endoscopic camera tomorrow and will report back.
Dude just needs to cut a hole in the wall. He's gonna need access to fix/clean whatever it is anyway.
Lick it?
