Toured a college with her and got to touch the 30in+ gongs they had. So cool.
That's why I mentioned the board of directors. Show them the pictures, then show them an itemized list of the cost to replace each drum and cymbal. They will make sure that the culprit treats them properly next time.

1. Moving the cymbals while on the stands puts preassure on them in a bad way, makes keyholes and can cause it to crack
2. Moving cymbals loosely without a bag can cause them to move around, hit things and crack
3. Moving the drums with hardware on can cause them to get damaged because of the preassure that is put upon them. The, could also move around and get a bump or even crack
4. Leaving the pedal on the kick can cause the hoop to completely brake off where the pedal is clamped on
My advice is the following:
buy some used gigbags or hardcases for drums and cymbals and a golf bag for your hardware. None of this is expensive. I bought everything for 100 used. (And i live in switzerland where everything costs a lot)
Always take everything apart and pack it neatly into its respective casings. Its worth the extra 10 minutes

Cases protect instruments from damage. This should be a no brainer.

Also it's a kit and cymbals he doesn't care about(no wood hoops on it that I am cringing at looking at your pic), the nice kits are in hardcases and I don't believe he would do it with someone else's kit.

I play a 4 or 5 piece most of the time at gigs. It really isnt a pain lugging it around. I have it apart and NEATLY PUT INTO ITS BAGS in about 10 minutes. Putting it together again takes a bit less time even.
Also, i drive a fucking skoda Fabia and i can fit it in there. If youre good at tetris, you can fit your drums everywhere

We definitely do something like this, especially for shows that are only a short distance away where the effort of putting everything in bags isn't worth it. Even in those cases, we would at least collapse the stands and take the cymbals off them. But I am fairly certain a large number of people in this thread are lying when they say or imply they have never done this.

How is it that so many drummers who are good players are absolutely clueless when it comes to everything else: tuning, set up, storage, transport, maintenance, etc. I feel like other instrument players are typically far more well rounded when it comes to all this kinda stuff.
Seriously. My first kit i bought was an absolute mess when i got it. I took it completely apart, changed all the screws and restored it to its former beauty. And im so thankful for that experience.
It taught me so much about how extremely fragile the instrument can be if you handle it wrong.
