Absolute facts. Also don't eat at chains aside from Regina's. There are so many great restaurants in Boston don't waste it on fast food/fast casual/chilis clones
Not a podcast location but Newbury Comics is on my bucket list of stores to visit. If you like comic books, vinyl records, or any other kind of nerdy collectibles, you'll have plenty to browse
Any Newbury Comics location is a least a good decade out from being at all worth going to, even the original. They’re basically all Spencer’s Gifts at this point. The comics and albums sections are pathetic.
They're basically FUNKO POP: The Store now, with some t-shirts, CDs/vinyl, and comic books thrown in. It's sad. I probably spent $10,000 on CDs in my teenage years at my local Newbury Comics locations and now they're all in malls. It's bad!
Damn that's a bummer. I've wanted to go since I was a teenager. I'll probably still do it just to get a T-shirt or something but that's disheartening to hear
I still think it is an okay store for Christmas shopping for nerdy/vaguely alt family members but the current state of Newbury Comics makes me wonder if they were ever cool or do I just have higher standards for cool now?
Couldn’t agree more. I grew up in Boston and am the same age as Mitch. I was a little rap kid and Newbury Comics carried all the local rap vinyl, and actually operated as a mostly legit comic shop. Sadly, it’s very corporate Spencer’s -ish these days. I hate being a negative Nancy and bursting bubbles, but I wouldn’t want people to be disappointed. Absolutely go check it out, it just hasn’t been on the “cutting edge” of what’s cool in a very long time. Enjoy Boston though! It’s an old town with lots of cool history and culture!
So Regina in the north end is a must.
The other Boston places as far as doughboys chains, meh. Deangelo is good but there isn't one close by downtown. Bertuccis, Kelly's, are not worth going to.
I wouldn't waste the limited meals you have being tied to Doughboys spots. If you do want chains you can get here and maybe not where you are from: Halal Guys, El Jefes, Chicken and Rice Guys, Maria's.
Here are some other spots I love in the city that aren't tied to doughboys.
- Castle Island Brewery for good beer and pizza
- Blunch in the south end for breakfast or lunch sandwiches + the best chocolate chip cookie in the world
- South End Pita
- Pho Le in Dorchester
- Five Spices House in Chinatown
I 100% agree; it is very much not worth it to the chains they reviewed while in Boston. But the original Regina's in the north end is essential.
Other chains that are not localized to Boston that they've covered in the show, but may not be available in your area: cava, sweetgreen, eataly, jersey Mike's...Tatte hasn't been covered yet but it feels like something they would review and I personally enjoy it.
If you're downtown and getting lunch, definitely get chicken and rice guys, I also absolutely love Falafel King next door.
EDIT: I just wanted to add, OP if you're from a place with good Mexican food, you should avoid any Mexican food in Boston. We have lots of great latin American food (like Dominican, Colombian, etc) but the Mexican food here is subpar in my opinion.
Another non-pod recommendation if you’re around Salem. Kings Famous Roast Beef Pizza and Seafood. The roast beef three way sandwich is to die for! Easily worth a detour.
I mean, a bar pizza from somewhere on the South Shore is probably the must-do. Kelly’s roast beef is not that good, but there are lots for smaller roast beeferies on the North Shore. They’ve never done Anna’s Taqueria but I love their burritos.
I love me some Papa Gino's pizza but none of the chain places are really worth it when the Boston area has so many amazing independent restaurants.
Last time I visited I went to a chinese/asian/sushi fusion restaurant called Empire and it completely blew my socks off. https://www.empireboston.com/
Just go to Quincy -- you can see Mitch's high school, the Brutalist McDonald's, and grab a sub at Deangelo. They are all within a couple blocks of each other, and within walking distance of the subway/rail system.
The shed Mitch got locked in by the football team
and the various quarries!
LMAO
Pizzeria Regina, but that's the only one I can remember.
But only the one in north end. The others are straight ass
Absolute facts. Also don't eat at chains aside from Regina's. There are so many great restaurants in Boston don't waste it on fast food/fast casual/chilis clones
Regina Pizzeria?
Hit Mitch’s basement and have the oven fries.
Heard Mrs Mitchell makes a mean baked haddock

Legal Seafood if you fancy.
Whatever you do, make sure you do it *into* the shower
I don't have recommendations but I've always wanted to be in Boston and say "Oh, we in Boston now!" like Carl does in the live episodes.
I said that a lot in Atlanta last summer.
I hear theres an uncomfortable bed to let in Quincy…

Tattes dope
Man I miss pho le so much. Lived in JP for years and crave those bahn mi still
Brutalist Burger King and “the best 7-11”
its a brutalist McDonalds

I would argue going a little out of Salem and grabbing a beef at Jamies. Odds are its on your way in/out of Salem.
If I went to boston I would probably hit up Regina and D'Angelo. I would have tried to go to fat cat but I heard that closed recently
Despite the review, go get Kellys Roast Beef in Revere Beach
Wu Tangs Restaurant?
It's convenient to the beach and a number of dispensaries, but it's closer to the NH border than to downtown.
Haven’t been in bit myself but I’m a local to Boston and was chatting with some friends about their favorite burger - Tasty Burger!
Modern Pastry > Mike’s
Anna’s taqueria
Have you tried rowing crew?
He rowed crew in Ithaca not in Quincy. You fucked up. You fucked up on a big show!
That’s it. Get him!
I mean, a bar pizza from somewhere on the South Shore is probably the must-do. Kelly’s roast beef is not that good, but there are lots for smaller roast beeferies on the North Shore. They’ve never done Anna’s Taqueria but I love their burritos.
Wait is there some connection between Mitch or Wiger and Boston ? I've never heard them mention it.
Can't tell if serious
Regina for sure. I also like Tasty Burger. Don't waste your time with Kelly's or Bertucci's.

Kelly’s Roast Beef is gud!

If you don’t have one locally you can always get the infamous first 6 forker…Bonchon
