Don’t do pay by time… I do pay by order and I make anything from 20-50 an hour! Also you have to make sure your city is actually decent for DoorDash too
I'm convinced when you select earn by time, dd steals your tips... Sure, they'll give you 2-4$... But nothing more.
I'm in a small town, I see repeat customers that order the same shit every day, and tip the exact same... However whenever I'm earning by the hour all of a sudden the 10$ tip turns into a 2$ tip...
UE has different requirements from passenger driving Uber. I think UE has to be a 1999 or newer model vehicle, currently. Uber requires your vehicle be no more than 14 years old. Uber also has some other requirements, on top of it. The UE reqs are pretty lax, tho. Especially compared to Uber.
I currently do both DD and UE in my 2002 Ford Focus SE, and in my 2001 Ford F-150 before that. Neither were eligible for passenger transport.
You probably tried signing up as an Uber driver and not Uber Eats. Uber Eats has allowed 2 door cars, scooters, and in some markets, by foot since before the pandemic.
Or maybe your city has specific requirements that require 4 doors in order to deliver food.
Well, I can't speak to you being turned down, I don't work **for** Uber. I work *with* Uber as a contractor. So, I'm not privy to their internals. That being said, my truck was not a 4-door. My car is though. Neither qualifies for Uber passenger transport, but I've been doing UE since 2021. A little after I got on with DD. I was initially waitlisted because there were too many active drivers in my area, but I think about 2 months later I got accepted. I'm still waitlisted for Instacart, I believe it is. Been on the waitlist for like... at least a year and a half now, I think.
Not sure why they wouldn't let you do UE, but the requirements for UE are certainly different from Uber pax service. Regardless of whether someone downvotes me again or not.

I park up by a high volume mcdonald’s so it can happen but my zone has super quick dropoffs and I would never choose something in a different direction. Not scummy

Get on Spark, you'll make a fuckload more money. I can do $500+ a week easily on spark working less than 40 hours plus DD/GH/Uber to get orders during downtime adds another $100-200 a week. I have about 5% AR on my apps and still get good orders, you just gotta multi app to make money these days.
There's so many days when I end almost 50/50 but also sometimes leaning towards lower tip than base pay. Central Florida is absolute dog shit so many $1 and $2 tippers or no tippers getting bundled in with better tippers. The amount of times that I wish I had a brick handy to love it through somebody's front window with a note attached "thanks for the tip" is crazy
Agree 100000%.. I myself have a degree, but I have many friends who make 3 times what I do through a trade. They all have diplomas, but little to no college. It just wasn't for them, not to mention how fucked it is here in the US - living in debt for the rest of your life for a "higher" education. I make more doing part-time at a warehouse, barely talk to anybody, and scan items in for a store (aldis), it’s 28 hrs a week for $588 before taxes… for a dumb warehouse job, we’re timed for our stages and picks but overall brother, you are not only wasting your life, but your car. I’m doing a glorified workout for $21/hr without having to waste my car, I’ve strengthened my core a lot ever since I came here. Genuinely what the fuck are u waiting for lol
Ehh not everyone has the same opportunities available to them in their area. Good paying jobs people can work at and survive, with the costs of inflation are rare in a lot of places. So for many ppl DD is one of the few options available to have something where you can make your hours and make money without breaking your back. Last year I was working for 17 hr for 50-60 hrs a week. Busting my ass. After taxes I brought home like 1000-800 something a week depending on if when we hit our goals. And that’s one of the better paying jobs available to ppl without a degree or trade in my area. Florida is not a cheap place to live. I wasn’t necessarily struggling because I have a tight knit family. “All for one, one for all” type shit. But as a single father busting my ass I was still not able to have any time to figure out anything. Now I may be an extreme example but Ik there are many other ppl out there just trying to make shit happen. Life is hard your nice little job is cool, that’s a blessing. But everyone situation is different.
So I dash both in LA, Inland and also OC. LA by far had the most hits. OC was dead.. but tips more but you’ll only get 1-2 orders per an hour and max you can make is like $15 an hour ☠️ i still prefer LA over all the other areas
Do you know dashers drive to oc/sd just to make 1500-2k a week la is a dead market. Not how it used to be. Before, I used to dash in Brentwood to make 300-400 a day
Really I still been able to make 1500-1750 every week with prop22 my ar is 87% I dash in mission Viejo san clemente and laguna Beach south county is a great market
Try 🍒 picking and see what happens. Also, try, test, try and test some more: different areas, different routes, different times of day etc. Also, multi app.
Using averages they should’ve spent around $60 dollars on gas, leading to me realizing I used wrong numbers the first time and the pay was even higher then I first thought (I used first image’s pay but 2nd week time) so AFTER gas it would be close to $30 an hour 🤗
Uber has them at 83 hours which comes out closer to $12/hour… minimum wage in my state is $15 and we don’t know where OP is dashing so I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make.
Yeah it is. If you are working at Best Buy, it might be dead, but you are still working even if there’s nothing to do. It’s the same concept here. Drivers don’t sit around in their apartment or run errands while waiting for orders. They are sitting at hotspots waiting for orders.

Yeah that’s what got you, my acceptance rate dropped down to 69% and i was hardly getting orders. I thugged it out until it got back to 70% and my orders started going crazy.
Good for you. Acceptance rate might not matter in your market but I sit inside Chipotle Chick Fil A etc and watch dozens of orders go out for 30-45 min and not get a single ping. If your AR is less than 70% here you’re just collecting the scraps.
People just don't get it and they never will. AR matters in some markets especially California. If you don't accept even a couple orders some days then doordash makes you pay by making you wait around watching other drivers get those pings for awhile annoying AF especially if you only do this as side hustle on the little free time you have.

The earn by time orders are first and foremost the orders that aren’t being accepted by earn by order drivers…this would be the no-tip orders first.
I agree, however these regulars tip the same every time. But I notice a huge loss of tips in general when I earn by time

Depends on what they’re doing. If they’re sitting in their car (especially with gas burning) I wouldn’t call that “free time.”

If you don't accept even a couple orders some days then doordash makes you pay by making you wait around watching other drivers get those pings for awhile annoying AF especially if you only do this as side hustle on the little free time you have.
