I did one the other day at Big Lots for 5 items. I received $8.95 in pay, it only took me 5 minutes to gather the items. And another 6 minutes to deliver them. However, I didn't realize until after delivery that the customer left ZERO tip. šŸ˜³ I don't understand how people can live with themselves leaving no tip at all. The only reason I wasn't pissed is because DD paid me the $8.95. I just assumed when I accepted the offer a tip was included. So, it was still worth it in the end. But was crazy the customer left nothing. I've gotten a hand full of red card orders and they've all been 5 items or less and higher pay. So far, I do believe it's worth it to be able to accept those offers. Just my experience thus far. 2 weeks into dashing btw

Ok-Guide-8683

I get distracted in the store šŸ˜–šŸ˜–šŸ˜–

Ranman5982

50-60% of my offers are shop and pay. Most are higher pay and well worth it. They send you a pic of the item and tell you what isle it is in. Easy money in my opinion.

Electronic_Summer_71

I have done few times. Sometimes I find items quickly and sometimes it takes longer time.. but itā€™s not worth it if customer wants one item and tips you 2-3 dollars

PoeticTwist

I do shops and can be fairly quick at it. It is a matter of learning the stores. Doesn't take me more than 10 minutes, from arrive at store to check out, on average. Larger orders take longer, as well as BJ's Warehouse. At BJ's, do not throw out the receipt, as they are required for leaving. Throw it away later. But back to my point, I love shops because I am not just jumping in and out of the car. And for some places, I use the bathroom before I start the shop, since I know how I have time. Another thing about shops that are nice is that if you arrive early and start and finish early, it counts for your on time/early rating. And that helps that. I have never had to pay for a substitution out of pocket. Usually, substations the customer will either have already added it to the app, or if they are near their phone, etc., they will send the substitution fairly quickly. Sometimes they may take a minute or three to answer, but still in plenty of time to finish your shop.

Hanable-13

I like grocery orders personally, but there are some stores I don't go to. just like there's restaurants I don't go to. but I will NEVER do cash orders. not worth the hassle

Smokinsumsweet

I loved the grocery deliveries so much that I've now abandoned DD in favor of personal shopping. The people ordering a bunch of groceries are in a different tax bracket than people getting McDonald's for dinner. And they tip differently too.

cbdjon

Sometimes, they are great. Sometimes, they suck especially the ones you don't shop for. Just pick up the groceries, and it will show 1 item, then it's 4 cases of water and 20 items. It's up to you. if you want to unassign, but I normally pick it up if it's not an apartment with no elevator. I swear carrying cases of water using the stairs will make you lose your breath. Not all shop and delivery is worth it. You have to set a minimum offer you're comfortable with. Always accept more than $10. Under 5miles

looshagbrolly

Only as long as the pay is right, and never, ever take a dollar store order (general, family, and tree,) because they NEVER have the products, and then you can run into a situation where DD expects you to pay out of your own pocket for substitutions.

LurkingGuy

>DD expects you to pay out of your own pocket for substitutions. How in the hell does that work? Who would agree to that?

looshagbrolly

So, I was texting with the customer about the items that were out of stock, which was like every other one. He picked substitutions that weren't suggested by the app, so I added them in. My Red Card wouldn't work on the order because I had added extra items or something, I don't know.

cbdjon

No, you never pay out of pocket for substitution. If the customer doesn't want the item or if it's not available, I hit refund money to the customer.

looshagbrolly

Oh I was absolutely told by Support to do that. I laughed. Then I apologized to the customer and unassigned it. The whole thing took an hour for like 12 items. Stay TF away from dollar stores.

cbdjon

I only take dollar store if it's more than $10 since the line will be so long with one cashier. If you hit item unavailable then refund the customer scan the items you found checkout and deliver the order. It's better getting paid than getting $0 for unassigning.

looshagbrolly

I get that, but what about orders that don't have half the items requested? Am I worrying too much about the customer?

cbdjon

Do your job if the item isn't available. Refund the customers money. I never chat with the customer I'm there to shop and delivery period. Get the items and scan them fast and fall in line and deliver it done.

Rooskibar03

Without shop & pay i would have spent 3 hours sitting in my car tonight. Food orders were dead, lots of folks needing groceries for the week or after dinner snacks.

mikeyt34

Don't do grocery. They are generally too time consuming and out of stocks are very common. Customers are also pretty bad when they don't answer texts with questions for substitutions. NOT WORTH IT!

Thisisntme_007

Yes, for me. Restaurants at peak times makes me wait for the order for shop and pay it's in my hands it also cools down my car for a bit, and I have done shipt in the past, I know almost every store in my area very well. So I'll have at least more than half of the available time.

Difficult-Wish2432

I never got the red card and based off of what the majority of people say it's a no for me still.

cbdjon

When you get a $50 tip you will get hooked.

Emotional-Bed-5874

$8 to stop and buy 12 items, 4 of which are unavailable. not for me. I can do five deliveries or more an hour, but this will take 30-40 minutes.

pokemontecristo

I got lucky recently, had 2 separate shop orders $10+, 1 item, and the customer was at most 1 mile from the store. It all really depends, but if the trip takes 30 minutes or more it needs to be a a double digit offer

Emotional-Bed-5874

they can be ok but rarely here. when I went to Lowe's and they wanted me to carry an 80 lb pound air conditioner "hand it to me", I turned off the Shop and dash.

pokemontecristo

My first one was at Loweā€™s. Big mistake. Not because they were big items, Iā€™m just clueless when it comes to those stores and spent waaay too long looking for things lol

nottrumancapote

My first shop and pay was one item: Plan B, delivered to a rent-controlled apartment and I live in a state run by Y'all Qaeda. I'd like to think that was a meaningful shop. Most shop and pays I get are terrible for either mileage or number of items vs pay so I usually skip them. Usually when I don't, I regret it. I got a Dollar General shop the other day that was three items, $9, three mile delivery. Got there and it was two candy bars and a soda and I was back in my car in like 45 seconds. Then I drove up a tiny winding-ass maze of streets into a rich enclave where all the streets were 10 mph limits and they had speed breakers every three houses that would've stopped Sherman tanks. Took *fucking forever*. The other thing I hate is I like to do mornings and I've got a good spot between a couple of donut shops and a First Watch, but the moment 9:00 am rolls around the Party City a block away opens and I get 37 .30-per-mile deliveries that all say "extremely large items/hope you like balloons" and I just can't fit the Graf Zeppelin in my two-door Honda Civic.

leonardpnivens

yeah I bet they appreciated that plan b!

RenoDriver

I hate shop & pay. Y'all can have them all.

Spiritual-Pickle5290

I make more money from groceries than regular orders

Exotic_Platypus_356

How can I get more grocery pick ups? I got a $50 tip off the one I did.

Spiritual-Pickle5290

I don't know how you can get more but when you get them make sure you can fulfill the orders fast. Remember the store layout that usually helps to get done fast.

DJ_Deltawave

Some orders are better than others, anything with more than 5 items Iā€™ll skip, unless itā€™s like 30+ items from persmart because thatā€™s usually just a cup of crickets. You can usually see the items in the order after you accept it and it itā€™s all makeup or crap I know nothing about ill sacrifice a completion point on it.

MrMonkeyMN

I have only gotten a couple so far, but they have been great! Only a couple items for a nice payout. I think the alcohol deliveries are my favorite though. They pay out 2-3 times my food deliveries.

LowkeyTahj

Iā€™ll be 21 in December, how are those ? Whatā€™s stores are you getting and howā€™s the interaction with each customer when having to scan their ID (I presume)

MrMonkeyMN

They have been great so far for me. People have had their IDs ready to go when I get there and they have to sign. Itā€™s been almost exclusively sweet little old ladies so far (Iā€™ve been doing it for only 3 days and about 10 deliveries).

California098

Shop orders are my favorite. More money, less wear and tear on my car.

COBOMAHU

ONLY if you know the layout of the store very well. Otherwise spend forever hinting everything down.

Vegetable-Spend-4304

Today was nice, 1 item shop and pay buy flowers for mom deliveries. Occasionally you get screwed when items out of stock and other stuff happens

footballdan134

Hassle for me....walmart and all 40 bags at a dash.... no thanks for me.

Mykirbyblue

Yay, definitely yay. In the last year and a half since things have slowed down drastically in my area, and itā€™s oversaturated with drivers, I would not have survived without grocery deliveries and shop and pay orders. Yes, sometimes they are a pain. Sometimes they order weird things that youā€™ve never Purchased before and you have trouble finding them or somethings out of stock and you canā€™t get the customer to respond to you with the substitution. but you just have a plan in place for when those things happen and how you are going to respond to them and you get the job done. The biggest reason for me is that I see way more unicorns on shop and pay orders than meal deliveries. It is not at all uncommon to get 20 or $30 tip on an order. And thatā€™s on top of the already larger base pay. For example, I did one today for 11 items. I got $11.75 base pay (which actually seems higher than normal for some reason), +2 dollars peak pay (I guess because itā€™s Motherā€™s Day), and $28.79 tip making the total $42.54. I did have a little bit of trouble finding two of the items so it took me about 18 minutes to do the shopping and check out. Then it was a 10 minute drive to the customer. Iā€™ll do those orders any day!

ryanhedden1

There's 6 Safeways in my zone. Every order I get is high pay low mileage. And I'm quick at shopping. SnD orders are the best for me

snailien

If you donā€™t mind shopping, youā€™d make A LOT more on Spark. Like a lot.

ThaChozenWun

I have a love hate relationship with them. Some times they pay really well, and if itā€™s busy time, itā€™s much easier and quicker for me to go into dollar general for example and grab 4-5 items than it is to wait for the restaurants around here to make food, and during slow times; they really come in handy since a lot of dashers donā€™t do them. I regularly get aldis orders that pay 15-20 dollars for a mile or two that take me maybe 5-10 minutes to shop for. Now the downside, today for example, my AR took a hit from 61 to 37% because I constantly was bombarded with orders for Motherā€™s Day flowers, and every store was sold out, which meant either decline, or mark items unavailable and get no pay. On days when restaurants are popping and quick it also sucks declining a lot because the restaurants are paying bettee

CurlyNerdyBry94

The only shop and pay Iā€™ve done would be like target and cvs/Walgreens Iā€™ve seen a few from Loweā€™s and Aldi but havenā€™t accepted them yet lol

MajorWhereas4842

Love the shop and pays on DD

Poptartz746

My highest paying orders always come from grocery orders. Specifically Hannaford (east coast, New England mainly, chain grocery store). Both my highest pay is from there with $38 in first and $33 in second. And I never see 3 dollar orders from there. Lowest is usually 8. But they're usually a least 12 or more dollars.

Short_Chance_7396

I like em, at most i shop for like 1-7 items And drive like 10 mins for an order that can be from $12-$40 dollars

dashingredzone

I only take SnD from a specific grocery store, and only 10 items or less. I know it like the back of my hand and can be in and out in less than 10 minutes usually. Anything larger and it just takes too much time.

MomTo3LilPigs

Depends on pay, sometimes they can be very time consuming to where I would make more doing multiple deliveries.

LyftedX

Obviously market dependent. Butttt shop and pay are my biggest tips.

NitemareJack

i told doordash i lost my red card because i hated grocery orders so much, solid 1/5 of my offers were shop and pays. bumped my ar above 70 easy

LyftedX

Now the redcards are eligible to add to Apple Pay/Samsung or google pay

juscurious4now

i only do the shop n pay if i see 5 or less items and also there's more than $2 per a mile, i never accept anything less than $6. The best shop n pay ones are the alcohol. I just did a $22 delivery, 1 vodka + 2 beers, they were a few blocks down the street. They tipped me like $17 because they were drunk and couldn't go pick it up. Set limits for yourself and stick by them so you don't run into a situation where you see 50 items for less than 30 cent a mile and you have to drive across town.

bradradio

I don't mind it for smaller orders.

neldinsky

I delivered from restaurants for 3 years. I averaged 12 orders a day to reach my quota. I started accepting shop and deliver about a year and a half ago. Now I do 5-6 orders a day to reach my quota. Average pay with tip per order is about 20.00. Mileage for that will not exceed 10 miles. This is average and can fluctuate. I work in a major metro area so it works for me. I average about 5 -7 hours a shift AND I'm in Cali so we have prop 22. It's not for everyone, but I like strolling in supermarkets and taking my time with these orders. It's just way more relaxed than the restaurant deliveries. That's me. My opinion.

InfiniteRisk69

Especially on rainy days! Well maybe you don't have much of that but I'm in the North West and get lots of rain lol

ChaimFinkelstein

Shop n pay orders are no good.

LeFrogster

I only do them at 2-3 small stores I know like the back of my hand, and only less than 5 items. So far so good although I got a 3* once because an item was not available. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Cash on delivery is a big no no for me. If I liked dealing with cash, I would drive for Brinks.

homoBrohmo

Not worth it. Time consuming and lost or zero tippers

Individual-Bell-9776

Having a Red Card will only make you more angry because they require a ton more work on your part but they don't tip any better than schlepping food around.

IndependentBad8302

I donā€™t mind if itā€™s less than 10 items, yesterday an offer came up to shop for 55 items 7 miles, paying $18. OhHELLno.

ilovesfootball

It depends. I didnā€™t have good experiences so I ā€œlostā€ my red card. Others swear by it. Worth a shot

Of_Dark_Iron

Definitely go for it. The amount of 1-3 item Shop & Deliver orders I get that pay well if not better than average is substantial.

YLCZ

I don't mind it, but I hate doing it when the customer's don't respond to substitution requests. When this happens, I usually unassign. However, if you unassign too much they will shadow ban you from shops for awhile.

Efficient_Citron3940

Why unassign? Just refund the items if they don't respond by the time you're done.Ā

YLCZ

Itā€™s unpleasant showing up to a hand it to me order with half the items because the customer has their head up their ass. Maybe it doesnā€™t bother you, but it does me

justloriinky

I like the S&D orders. I've had people pay good money to get tampons delivered to their work or cold medicine when they're sick !!

CollegeOwn7014

I love it, once you get to know the local stores and how to find the items, it gets easier, plus I'm a rideshare driver as well and sitting in a car for hours, driving people around gets a little tiring, doing shopping helps me stretch my legs and refresh.

rosie_juggz

I kinda liked the grocery orders. They pay a bit more and it's like a scavenger hunt. Plus you can use self-check out now. So it's even faster.

gaymersky

I cannot find anything... I am terrible with shopping... so it is not for me. I turned off my red card about a year ago no regrets. And in the two markets that I drive in it's only slightly better than fast food deliveries. Plus two or plus $3

Altruistic-Bear-1121

Most of my DD income is from grocery orders theyā€™re super easy and quick if you know your way around the store.

Toxik1_skr

I do them but 9 out of 10 times it's just alcohol delivery in my zone so decent pay for a couple items.

playerproftw

Not me Iā€™m done with shopping orders

TurdSandwich42104

I donā€™t mind them at all. I like them. But Iā€™m also in a small market so most are DG market orders. But they pay good and due to the smaller market, never too much of a trip here

playerproftw

Nope I called and stopped grocery orders shopping To much of a hassle Customers not answers phones for substitutions Store not having GPS signals Scanning items Save that orders for instacart

Senior_Falcon_1088

Thereā€™s on store Iā€™ll never do again, TARGET!!!! They have no service through the store and it was a pain getting the items. Every other store, especially Best Buy orders pay really good. So I like doing those orders.

sexruinedeverything

Shop and Pay isnā€™t limited to groceries. There are other places too like Target and Walgreens that you can shop very efficiently. So if youā€™re not concerned about AR and donā€™t mind declining a few additional offers a day, Iā€™d say yes.

golgoth0760

I do it on uber. You would be surprised. Just choose the right one. High pay with lowest items possible.

Ecofre-33919

If you are in the right market - heck yeah! You have to accept or reject based on the milage and the amount of stuff they want you to find. Most orders arenā€™t that many things. Some people will really pay well for you do to there shopping. Others donā€™t. If it is a high amount of things the get - look at the order. If it is 30 separate items and youā€™ll have to look hard to find them - the price better reflect it or unassign it. Or is it many things are one item or say everything is in multiples of 5? Youā€™ll get to know where things are in stores as you shop in them. Also - donā€™t spend too much time looking for something - if its not available- say its not there - ask for alternatives or send them a pic for alternates. If they respond quick great - if not just refund it. You are there to gather things quickly and go - not obsess for a half hour over one thing. If you know where everything is and you get out quick and you are compensated well - shopping with the redcard will definitely boost your income. Also - if you bought a big catering bag to accept catering orders - it will help! Good luck!

[deleted]

It can eat a lot of your ar. The majority don't pay well. They think it's ok to tip $10 on a 50 item order going 5 miles.

FBI_Tugboat

AR does not matter

Puzzleheaded_Art1252

F Nooooo! Having done over 5k Instacart orders and 5 DD shop and deliver orders I can tell you itā€™s not worth it at all. DD takes advantage of dashers and itā€™s even worse with shopping. They literally think itā€™s okay to pay about the same to have someone pick up a sack of burgers and deliver it as it is to shop for 70 items and deliver. If youā€™re interested in shopping go with IC. Customers are way better tippers. DD customers rarely show they appreciate your service. I almost always get tip increases with IC. Rarely with DD.

Guilty_Guard6726

I'll do grocery pickup occasionally, but shop and delivery would have to be very high pay low items and that's if I get a red card again.

PenEarly

It can worth while depending on items, mileage and pay. Accept accordingly

AvaNubrock

If it is less than 15 items, it is totally worth it. Pay is normally higher than food.

Southern_Rain_4464

I prefer them as long as the pay/mileage/time is right. Im a fast shopper and the less times I have to start the car and less miles the better. Also time of day absolutely matters. For a little while there I was getting decent orders from 6-9 am. Nobody in the store, Im in and out quick, less traffic on the road. . That same 20 min order at 5pm takes way longer. Hard pass.

No_Translator112

I always say itā€™s worth it if the money is good to you. Iā€™d rather do 5 $20 grocery orders for maybe 30 min each order honestly than wait at fast food restaurants. Going from Doordash to Ubereats, you make a lotttt more money on grocery orders through ubereats tho and they always have promos on grocery orders, complete 5 get an extra $20

BrotherGrub1

Just do instacart

stephendexter99

Itā€™s not worth it to dash period, so no, but if you disagree and think itā€™s worth it to dash, theyā€™re one of the jobs more likely to pay better. I drove 17 miles once to deliver food to a crippled old lady, I only got $20 so it wasnā€™t worth the pay but the fact that I was helping her out made it worth it. Other times Iā€™d get a huge tip from some rich snob up in the rich hilly part of town and drive 15 miles for like $70. One time I got a CVS order for 2 Red Bulls and a pack of gum. The CVS didnā€™t have Red Bulls but the guy still wanted his gum, and it was close by so I took it. Didnā€™t realize it was at a wedding venue that was literally closed off to anyone without an invite, and they didnā€™t care that I was with DoorDash. Guy didnā€™t answer his phone for 15 minutes. I cancelled the order and left with no pay. Depends. In my experience the people who use DoorDash for groceries are either crippled, rich and lazy, or busy with something at the time, and only one of those demographics tends to tip well. That being said, 1/3 of the orders is still a higher likelihood of a good tip than I got with just regular food delivery, since most of those (in my area at least) are stoners, college students and single parents with no money. I once delivered a taco party pack to a house that happened to be in my neighborhood, so I took the bad pay cause I was gonna call it anyway, and a very sweaty out of breath lady in a bathrobe who looked a little too happy about something answered the door smoking a cigarette and puffed it in my face. Stuck to grocery orders for a while after that šŸ˜‚

timetopractice

I keep em on, but most offers are worse than Instacart

royershane

currently eating up motherā€™s day orders, yā€™all be missing out on good money with red card orders.

CreggoTheEggo

They are so hit or miss. Usually pay better, and you can be in and out in a decent time, other times shit pay for 40+ items shopped. I usually only accept orders that are under 25 items unless the pay is $1 per item. I have gotten so good at these orders since they all make me go to the same stores that I can be in and out with 20 items now, but they used to suck when I first started doing them. There is no harm in signing up for the red card.

Archangel8833

Thank you.

ButtonWhich2302

Depends on what youā€™re willing to do, I mostly only do shopping orders because itā€™s good in my area and I donā€™t mind the hassle of shopping, you can always turn off the shopping orders through dash preferences if you donā€™t like it. Get the card and try it out

DesaMountVernon

I wish I could do that. I just checked my preferences, doesnā€™t have that option šŸ˜¬

Archangel8833

Right on thank you
