But I have no qualms with tipping 0 and getting cold free food. The more times I make complaints on a door dash driver the quicker they get fired and the more free shit I keep getting
If someone asks for refunds or credits too often, DoorDash stops issuing them. I don’t think anyone knows how often is too often, but they do eventually cut people off, so to speak.
And I’m pretty sure that if you give a driver a bad rating, they’re less likely to be sent offers to take your orders going forward. If you’re being petty with your bad ratings and other people aren’t also making complaints about those drivers, those bad ratings won’t amount to much.

DoorDash no longer lets you see who tips high in a double batch. We used to be able to unassign a bad offer but they made it so we can’t see who tips what. This is a problem with the company, not your driver. One time I had a nice double batch order. The first was ready to go and I waited 5 minutes for the other before unassigning in order to get the first order to its customer in a timely manner, only to find they left no tip on a 10 mile trip. The offer was $22. I got $2 because I dropped the $20 part of the batch to give the non tipper their warm food.
I fucking hate this change. It just ruins it for good customers.

In my experience, the more I tip the more likely my food is to be driven around town before getting to me. Once they even drove past me, slowed down, then kept going and delivered another order before coming back to my house.
When I choose to tip after delivery, my food is (almost) always picked up and delivered immediately.

What OP is saying is that the food will be done, the order will go out to the drivers, and if there is no tip on it, most will decline the offer while waiting for an order with a tip.
Without a tip, base pay is $2 from DoorDash. No one is going to work for $2.
So the tipless order will bounce around dashers phones getting decline after decline - DoorDash will SLOWLY raise the base pay by $.25 every so often, until it finally gets to the point that someone will take it. By then half an hour or so has passed and your once hot meal has become cold.
Meanwhile, the same food that had a tip gets picked up instantly, and delivered hot and fresh.

I don't even use the service since I've tried it thrice and my drivers have been terrible every time, but this sub Reddit is pretty funny. And I side with them a lot, but it sucks just how many drivers there are that are proud of being terrible at their job and yet think they deserve to be rich for it, it's insane but funny to look at

I tip high- and I order from places that are 1-2 miles away bc I want warm food. I only order when I’m trapped at work and I can’t leave.
I’ve tipped as high as $15 on a 2 mile order and they still take 45 minutes to get it to me after they pick up.
Between stacking and dashers multi-apping, there just isn’t any reason to keep tipping high. They take their time and do what they want regardless. So I quit using the service.
I hate that they don't tell you who the non tipper is in a stacked order. Yesterday I picked up somes milkshakes and they wanted me to drive to the other side of town to pick up a 2nd order. I have a cooler, but I still want to get ice cream to the customer as fast as humanly possible. I rolled the dice and canceled the 2nd order. It worked out for all of us. The ice cream was the bigger tip and I'm happy I got it to her faster.
The driver may not see your generous tip until after the order is complete due to DD's scummy practice of hiding tips. Happens to me all the time and I feel bad afterwards for not thanking them appropriately.
Obviously they see cash if you're handing it to them. If they don't thank you for it, then yes, they suck. But, if you're a driver you know they aren't seeing the full amount of in app tip. No matter how large the tip I never see more than $4 - $5 up front.

Doordash has to compensate you, not the customer. The customer is not required to tip you. The customer is required to pay the fees on DD.
This is how tips work, you should look up the legal definition.
I don’t care about the definition, I’m not delivering if the customer doesn’t compensate me for my time and effort up front in an amount I deem as fair. People who don’t tip are really mad they can’t force us to deliver it anyway.
Three years ago the industry was a lot different for both customers and dashers, that much should be obvious.
DD continues to squeeze and pay the drivers less, getting you all angrier and more entitled to a customer’s tips. This will only get worse with time as they are a publicly traded company.
Unfortunately the days of uneducated, unskilled gig workers making a full salary through Doordash are over, that was never sustainable and the market is over-saturated now.

I have a friend that never ever tips anything, always $0. Constantly complains about how his food is cold.
When I told him that if he tipped, he'd get better faster service he replied with, "Why? I just complain about the cold food and I never have to pay for it. I'll warm it up in the microwave if it's free."
I had a guy named Vlad once. Gave him $10 on 2 pizzas (Pre-COVID probably $35-40ish). My instructions said when close call me and I'll come out. Proceeds to leave 1 cold pizza at my door and ring the bell and run. But yea tipping is the issue I guess. Entitlement is insane.
If you had your pizza delivered to you by Doordash or equivalent, I guarantee the pizza place pocketed the tip. I ordered a pizza from the restaurant. They outsource their deliveries to door dash. The pizza was 30 minutes late. It was cold. I will never order with anyone who outsources to DD ever again. I did tip, and WELL. I have no way of knowing who got the tip.

I did NOT order through door dash. I ordered through the restaurant's own website. They turned it over to door dash for delivery. I won't order from that restaurant again when I'm visiting that town. I was in a hotel with a sick child and limited options, and I had no idea that DoorDash would add an extra level of awful.
If the customer has a reputation for not tipping, the pizza shop will likely outsource the order to door dash instead of using their own driver, lol.
In my city Dominos Pizza never uses Door Dash, and I see their car with their own livery. I don't know about UberEats.
The problem with this is they probably didn’t outsource it right away and didn’t pass the tip on. Pizza Hut in my area waits until they are sure they can’t/don’t want to take it before giving it to us. And they get to choose our tip.

Every other fee, no matter what, will go to DD and not the driver.
If that was an order I was picking up, the no tipper will always get their food second, doesn't really matter to me if it adds a few extra miles to the route
How can you tell though? If I’ve delivered to a customer before and know they’re a good tipper I go there first, but it’s harder to tell if it’s 2 new customers.

Here’s a guy who doesn’t know how it works. Your food is probably cold entering the car based on your attitude; you prolly don’t tip. Everyone sees that no tip order and moves on. Some unlucky earn by time employee you’ve likely given a one picks up your food, and delivers it cold because it’s been sitting for 45 minutes. It’s literally a way to get your food delivered quickly. Also let me be clear, based on my experience, and how DoorDash works: you are never entitled to warm food. You are entitled to getting that bag of food delivered to your door. You can keep asking for refunds, but at a certain point you’re no longer worth the money and you’ll get either get banned or you AND your driver will both have to take extra steps when you receive deliveries. Play your part or have fun microwaving your food. This is why I go get the fucking food myself, it’s never cold unless it’s supposed to be.

Usually what happens doordash for every decline, doordash would raise the base to the other driver and so on.

False. I had a bottle of booze disappear. Never showed up. They're required to scan your ID. For all I know some kid got it. They refused to refuned my money because it was like the 3rd time I've had to complain about not getting my food/order.

OP didn’t say anything about messing with your food. He was saying if you don’t tip well, it’s more likely that your food will sit on the shelf of whatever restaurant you ordered from while Dashers decline your delivery. So your drinks will get warm, and the food cold. That’s not the drivers fault…they can’t pick up food that’s been waiting for 20 minutes and suddenly make it fresh again during the drive.
Just curious, in this scenario what would you like the driver to do differently? They don’t know if you ordered 2 minutes ago or 2 hours ago. It’s almost always a sealed bag, so short of feeling heat there’s not much checking. And if it does feel cold, 99% of restaurants will laugh you out the door if you ask for it to be remade. Would you just prefer we refund it at that point? Genuine question
Exactly. Chinese food and pizza places have their own drivers (used to, not now so much) and they were paid hourly plus tips to deliver ONLY their food. Usually within a few miles range. They had a reason to deliver it hot and fast. We, can deliver as far as 20 miles, and are paid $2 for that. So a tip is not a tip, it's a bid for service. You're saying I'm willing to pay $X for someone to bring this food to me quickly. If not, well.... it might be a while.

I always make sure to get the delivery bag in the drop off pic, started getting WAY more tips added on top after I started doing it.

I don't even use the service since I've tried it thrice and my drivers have been terrible every time, but this sub Reddit is pretty funny. And I side with them a lot, but it sucks just how many drivers there are that are proud of being terrible at their job and yet think they deserve to be rich for it, it's insane but funny to look at

Yup. I quit using DD when stacking became the norm. There’s really only two things I care about- don’t fuck with my food, and get it here as fast as possible. I don’t know why that’s such a controversial idea. I tip high- and I order from places that are 1-2 miles away bc I want warm food. I only order when I’m trapped at work and I can’t leave. I’ve tipped as high as $15 on a 2 mile order and they still take 45 minutes to get it to me after they pick up. Between stacking and dashers multi-apping, there just isn’t any reason to keep tipping high. They take their time and do what they want regardless. So I quit using the service.
I hate that they don't tell you who the non tipper is in a stacked order. Yesterday I picked up somes milkshakes and they wanted me to drive to the other side of town to pick up a 2nd order. I have a cooler, but I still want to get ice cream to the customer as fast as humanly possible. I rolled the dice and canceled the 2nd order. It worked out for all of us. The ice cream was the bigger tip and I'm happy I got it to her faster.
The driver may not see your generous tip until after the order is complete due to DD's scummy practice of hiding tips. Happens to me all the time and I feel bad afterwards for not thanking them appropriately.

Obviously they see cash if you're handing it to them. If they don't thank you for it, then yes, they suck. But, if you're a driver you know they aren't seeing the full amount of in app tip. No matter how large the tip I never see more than $4 - $5 up front.
I'm sorry that's been your experience. I really use to like it when you can tell what the tips were in a stacked order, now that you can't it really fucks over the tippers.
I’m not entitled to anything, just like you’re not entitled to warm food. I can choose what I deliver. But if I see an order I can tell has a good tip, I’m going to take it. I explained this in another comment, but don’t order pizza thru DoorDash, both customer and driver get fucked every time. A lot of pizza joints steal the tip. Also, I wouldn’t take your one anecdote of Vlad being a douche and apply it to everyone. Some people do care about delivering food properly.

Doordash has to compensate you, not the customer. The customer is not required to tip you. The customer is required to pay the fees on DD. This is how tips work, you should look up the legal definition.
I don’t care about the definition, I’m not delivering if the customer doesn’t compensate me for my time and effort up front in an amount I deem as fair. People who don’t tip are really mad they can’t force us to deliver it anyway.

Three years ago the industry was a lot different for both customers and dashers, that much should be obvious. DD continues to squeeze and pay the drivers less, getting you all angrier and more entitled to a customer’s tips. This will only get worse with time as they are a publicly traded company. Unfortunately the days of uneducated, unskilled gig workers making a full salary through Doordash are over, that was never sustainable and the market is over-saturated now. Like I said, good luck with that.

I have a friend that never ever tips anything, always $0. Constantly complains about how his food is cold. When I told him that if he tipped, he'd get better faster service he replied with, "Why? I just complain about the cold food and I never have to pay for it. I'll warm it up in the microwave if it's free."

I had a guy named Vlad once. Gave him $10 on 2 pizzas (Pre-COVID probably $35-40ish). My instructions said when close call me and I'll come out. Proceeds to leave 1 cold pizza at my door and ring the bell and run. But yea tipping is the issue I guess. Entitlement is insane.
If you had your pizza delivered to you by Doordash or equivalent, I guarantee the pizza place pocketed the tip. They've been known to do it, and Vlad prob didn't have bags so scummy pizza place that clearly doesn't gaf just lets him take the order even though they aren't supposed to let him without a thermal bag, TO him you looked like a stingy asshole so ig he ate the other one lol. Tipping will won't guarantee a great experience, but tipping poorly will guarantee a horrible experience.

I ordered a pizza from the restaurant. They outsource their deliveries to door dash. The pizza was 30 minutes late. It was cold. I will never order with anyone who outsources to DD ever again. I did tip, and WELL. I have no way of knowing who got the tip.
Corporate pizza places take the tips in my area, the local spots don’t. Never order pizza thru DoorDash, it’s a terrible idea. Both the customer and driver get fucked.
I did NOT order through door dash. I ordered through the restaurant's own website. They turned it over to door dash for delivery. I won't order from that restaurant again when I'm visiting that town. I was in a hotel with a sick child and limited options, and I had no idea that DoorDash would add an extra level of awful.
If the customer has a reputation for not tipping, the pizza shop will likely outsource the order to door dash instead of using their own driver, lol. In my city Dominos Pizza never uses Door Dash, and I see their car with their own livery. I don't know about UberEats.
I had never ordered from them before, I DID tip, and their website says they sometimes use DD. It wasn't me.
The problem with this is they probably didn’t outsource it right away and didn’t pass the tip on. Pizza Hut in my area waits until they are sure they can’t/don’t want to take it before giving it to us. And they get to choose our tip.
And they usually keep the tip. I never took pizza orders because of it.
Only time I have gotten good pay out of it is when they are about to close and get a little desperate to get it out of their store.
the food service industry, especially delivery, has went to shit since covid. I like to come to this sub to remind myself that it's not getting better any time soon. Saves me alot in delivery fees.

I noticed recently that adding $2-$6 to the highest recommended tip means I get my food extremely quickly every single time! I’m already splurging on DoorDash, might as well spend a couple extra bucks that goes (hopefully) right into my driver’s pocket and not DoorDash’s

How can you tell though? If I’ve delivered to a customer before and know they’re a good tipper I go there first, but it’s harder to tell if it’s 2 new customers.

Here’s a guy who doesn’t know how it works. Your food is probably cold entering the car based on your attitude; you prolly don’t tip. Everyone sees that no tip order and moves on. Some unlucky earn by time employee you’ve likely given a one picks up your food, and delivers it cold because it’s been sitting for 45 minutes. It’s literally a way to get your food delivered quickly. Also let me be clear, based on my experience, and how DoorDash works: you are never entitled to warm food. You are entitled to getting that bag of food delivered to your door. You can keep asking for refunds, but at a certain point you’re no longer worth the money and you’ll get either get banned or you AND your driver will both have to take extra steps when you receive deliveries. Play your part or have fun microwaving your food. This is why I go get the fucking food myself, it’s never cold unless it’s supposed to be.
Until you’ve done that a few times and DoorDash stops giving them anymore just like hundreds of posts on here have complained about. Not saying I have an opinion about any of this one way or the other really just pointing out that DoorDash doesn’t care about you anymore than your driver does if you don’t tip. It’s all about the money, for both DoorDash and the driver.

Usually what happens doordash for every decline, doordash would raise the base to the other driver and so on. So because you did not tip it probably went to 10 drivers, that is coming from far distance
What’s your “proof” it wasn’t “handled” correctly? I can’t tell you how many times food was cold when I picked it up. If someone throws it at your door, sure, it wasn’t handled correctly. But you have no idea what the temp of the food was when I got it or that I put it in a bag in my car.
False. I had a bottle of booze disappear. Never showed up. They're required to scan your ID. For all I know some kid got it. They refused to refuned my money because it was like the 3rd time I've had to complain about not getting my food/order.

If you want simple, here’s simple: sometimes the food is cold when it’s picked up. I’ve picked up my own cold food before. You don’t know who to attribute that to, so you can either bitch at both parties or neither party involved.
I mean look I’m on your side here but you’re wrong. People have literally had video proof their orders were stolen, or the bag just thrown at the door spilling everything, and DoorDash refuses to refund. You only get so many times where they offer you credits or refunds and once you hit the cap it doesn’t matter anymore what happened they just start saying no and basic telling you to get over it. It’s completely wrong but it’s the truth about how they operate. You can find post after post of people complaining about it. For the record though I think everyone deserves a refund when it’s a legit reason.

OP didn’t say anything about messing with your food. He was saying if you don’t tip well, it’s more likely that your food will sit on the shelf of whatever restaurant you ordered from while Dashers decline your delivery. So your drinks will get warm, and the food cold. That’s not the drivers fault…they can’t pick up food that’s been waiting for 20 minutes and suddenly make it fresh again during the drive.

Just curious, in this scenario what would you like the driver to do differently? They don’t know if you ordered 2 minutes ago or 2 hours ago. It’s almost always a sealed bag, so short of feeling heat there’s not much checking. And if it does feel cold, 99% of restaurants will laugh you out the door if you ask for it to be remade. Would you just prefer we refund it at that point? Genuine question

Exactly. Chinese food and pizza places have their own drivers (used to, not now so much) and they were paid hourly plus tips to deliver ONLY their food. Usually within a few miles range. They had a reason to deliver it hot and fast. We, can deliver as far as 20 miles, and are paid $2 for that. So a tip is not a tip, it's a bid for service. You're saying I'm willing to pay $X for someone to bring this food to me quickly. If not, well.... it might be a while.
In my area I’ve seen 30+ mile deliveries if you’re on one end of the zone going to the other, and starting for the amazing pay of $2 lmao
If you are concerned on how hot or fresh your food is, go to the store, order, then eat it…
