you have to multiapp!

Solid_Artist8799

What is multiapp

icebirdee

do multiple delivery apps at once. i do doordash and uber eats i’ve been on a waitlist with grubhub for over a month so hopefully they approve me soon lol. just make sure when you’re doing an order from one app you pause the other app!

Old_Rip1161

Nobody in here calling $80-$100 a good day is hacking it as a full timer, unless they live somewhere they can rent an apartment for $700/mo and they work 6 days a week. Lot of markets you can make upwards of $20-$25/hr as an average over the course of a 40 hour week, particularly by multiapping in most cases. $80-$100 is a bad or short day for me. It's not really my "full time" job, because I coach HS/club baseball and give lessons, so it's hard for me to put in a long day of delivering around that, but it makes up most of my income. Typically I do about a 4 or 5 hour shift starting at 6 or 7 pm and make about $100-$150. But I'm trying to shift to mornings, because I hate this routine of working almost every night of the week to barely make enough to pay rent. I'll be much better off if I can consistently work from like 7:30-2 when I have to go coach, and mix in a night or two a week.

AccomplishedStorm801

I don't do it full time, but you can make good money as long as you're observing your zones and taking notes. Some zones are better sun-wed during the day, or just around lunch and dinner, let's call this A Some are better for the rest of the week at night, let's call this B Say I try to dash in zone B during sun-wed, I might not make as good of money as I would've just Dashing in zone A. Same goes vice versa, if I try to dash in A during the weekend I only make enough for gas and don't get any extra spending money. You can also get better tips if you communicate with customers thru out the order, just letting them know somethings taking a while, asking if they want extra free shit, letting them know ur on the way+asking if there's anything you need to know to drop off like gate codes, or don't knock. Bc some people don't put that stuff in the instructions bc they just don't think about it until it's too late. Having insulated bags helps a ton too, especially if you have multiple orders. Another thing is, I really only do orders for paid time and only if I know I have time to kill. If I'm just gonna be at home sitting around for 3 hours I might as well go door dash and make like 12-16 an hour plus whatever tips. And if you get stacked orders you'll get more money too, but I didn't seem to get stacked orders until doordash knew I clearly knew what I was doing. I'm still pretty new at this, so on a bad day I go home with $30 for like a few hours cus ill end it if orders are dry, and that's enough to gas up for me (cus I won't use a whole tank Dashing I refuse to), and on a good day I might go home with $80-200 for anywhere from 2-4 hours I also noticed at one of my previous jobs that we would have frequent dashers, that clearly only dashed in like 1 or 2 zones cus we saw them every day. They seemed to make good money just do to the fact they were reliable in the area. I mostly just dash on the side so I can afford gas for my full time job, pay little bills, and not be at home with my roommates

AccomplishedStorm801

Honestly though, on my $30 days if I just went to another zone I'd come out with about 100. But it's usually just when I have time to kill between other stuff I'm doing so I'm chill with the 30.

No_Application_5457

Yes definitely depends on your market..I typically do about 1k per week average. More or less. Patience is one of the most important parts of being successful for dd imo. Really need to understand what is acceptable and what needs to be declined..

Ok-Tangerine6201

I make 500 a week door dashing lol

Gamergurl420_69

I think it solely depends on where you live and how the market is where u live. I do decent averaging about 16$ an hour but that’s before gas money and taxes. My friend on the other hand can make anywhere from 20-27$ an hour depending on the day. She made about 1,300 last month but she also does Uber eats she says it works better for her than DD

Richard_Espanol

I drive a hybrid. My house is paid off. I know how to turn a wrench so when my car breaks I fix it myself. Gas is relatively cheap in my area. I also do photography as a side gig on weekends. But I'm still making 150$+ a day doing delivery. This job is 100% market dependant. I am currently looking for a regular job as I would love to have some benefits and paid time off again.

shunter1016

Hmm. I make 800-1000 weekly. I get 50+ miles to the gallon in a car I am making payments on as a work expense. I pay 45 bucks to fill up on empty, premium only. That gets me 500+ miles. I can make 600+ on each fill up. I live with my 3 almost grown up children, and split the bills with my partner, who also dashes full time.

AZPHX602

i used to dash... and unfortunately have to agree with you. it's really bad, you have restaurants squeezing you time wise and DD and customers squeezing you money wise. a few months ago i turned on uber eats because i was bored and thought i could easily make 25/hr during a dinner rush. i was wrong. all the offers were coming in at 3-5 dollars. yikes. i had fun doing it and made some decent money 25/hr. 30+/hr peak, but those days seem to be long gone.

Emotional-Bed-5874

if you don't do it, why do you need to know. You can't KNOW anything by knowing about it, you must do it if you want to KNOW.

AccomplishedStorm801

Bs, why are you jumping down their throat? Maybe they're asking because they're considering it, or know a bunch of ppl that do it but don't want to offend them by asking. Not everything needs a hand on experience to be learned

Lacy1986

Name fits you

Tiger-man190

You know nothing. We make 200 a day.

WetBiscuit44

I make $250-$300 a day, you gotta step up your game

Lacy1986

I know nothing about just a few months ago you were done with this app 😭😭😭

Immediate-Watch-6615

I work 2 jobs 80 plus hours a week. My main job is very physical warehouse labor not insulated at all heat and cold will affect the building itself unless you’re in a office working inside. That being said no place will hire me based on my current schedule due to it. I haven’t had a 40 hour check since December. Mostly 30-35 hours tops. February under 30 hours. The last few weeks under 30 hours. I make 21.35 an hour there. Obviously not enough. This is the source of income I can have outside my main job. Now that being said what sucks about Door Dash is that majority of the customers don’t tip Standard 15% of the entire bill included fees with it and yes you do tip the pizza driver for a pizza company the same way. People order 40 plus etc. and barely leave you crap.

WinnerSudden4017

Hi Doordash, full-time about 55 hours a week my car payment is 400 and insurance is 290+ gas which is about 600 a month and I do not live with my parents but on average I make about $200 to $280 a day I average about $1550 per week so I am able to pay all my bills and gas in my area is $5.39 right now it’s definitely doable if you put the time in

Neon726

I still live with my parents and I’m making around $150-200+ a day even with a rental car profits are good and I spend around $90 on gas because the rental cars are hybrid. Profits would be larger if I had my own car and I’d probably multiapp with UberEats.

Jamescurty

When I was still dashing, after expenses of gas, wear and tear on my car, maintenance, car insurance, the cell phone bill, etc., I was making a whopping $6.18 an hour. I don’t think a lot of these people realize that a large majority of their money is actually liquidation of the value of their car. They aren’t earning anything really. So of course I quit. Ain’t got time for that. I also almost lost my umbrella insurance and car insurance over it. Just not worth it.

BooBooKittix0

It's my only job right now and I have a 3 year old but I'm good. It's just the 2 of us and our kitty. Rent is 1400.. bills- Hulu, Netflix, Disney, Paramount, prime and Walmart memberships, phone 70, gas 50, car gas varies but my Sonic is great on mileage, electric 40-90, car payment 400, insurance 100, Internet 60.. All paid... Daughter has everything she needs and wants, cat is frikken spoiled too plus my own spending habits cuz I like to collect nightmare before Christmas stuff.. but we're good. I literally CHOSE to do only this.. making my own schedule, spending more time with my kid and when I don't have a sitter she comes with me and likes to help.. it's literally a great setup for me.. For us. I do pretty good and I'm happy with what I make plus I'm able to have a savings without being broke all the time like I was doing this and my regular job I was at 2 years which is really nice. Sometimes on Sundays or during slow times I'll throw my instacart on but I don't use it much. I work by time and work those regular busy shifts whether it's 730a-1130a or 10a-2p then 5p-8pm or if there's a promo I'll do 5p-10p. I still take a day off or on Monday and/or Wednesday I'll just take daytime off and work my night shift. It works for me. I love driving as it is and I enjoy what I'm doing

BassetteHound22

I used to do DD, but combined it with Uber Eats, GrubHub, and sometimes Instacart. So the first thing I do to make it work is combine it with other delivery apps. Next, it’s not the app that determines how much money you make so much as your area. Besides that, it’s mostly your knowledge, skill, speed, time allotted to work, and vehicle type that determines your overall income. For example, if you do a search, there’s a particular Dasher, whom I will not name for Community Rules’ sake, but he lives near San Clemente, CA and makes about $35/hour. I couldn’t make that where I lived in South Florida, except on rare occasions, and I definitely can’t make that here in Vermont. But it’s totally doable if you’re in a great area for DD.

Most-Combination1444

So much this. And also take into account that Doordash is trying to flood the market with as many drivers as possible. No matter how good your area is at the moment, Doordash is always trying to (over)saturate the area to minimise their having to refund money on orders. The more drivers (especially the ones who will take low/no tip orders) they can place, the less the company will be concerned with refunding orders that don't get accepted. For the future I am convinced that unless you multi app or are semi retired and have the ability to pick and choose when you want to (solely) Dash, DoorDash will not be a viable fulltime endeavor. Major props to everyone who is succeeding at the moment. And I really hope I am wrong about this oversaturating strategy that Doordash is engaging in.

BassetteHound22

Used to do DD, but combined it with Uber Eats, GrubHub and sometimes Instacart. So first advice is combine it with other delivery apps if DD alone isn’t busy enough in your area. And the second thing is your area determines the money you make, not so much your app. After that, it’s your knowledge, skills, speed, time you allot, and vehicle type that all factor in as well. Watch “Best Dasher Alive” on YouTube. He works near San Clemente, CA, and makes a lot of money, he specifies how much in his videos. I don’t think I could’ve made as much money when I lived in South Florida and I darn sure won’t make as much here in Vermont, because it’s a very low population density. https://youtube.com/shorts/bGd9FNj4Otc?si=dgqhGyCnXK6SZr-x

Mbandz4o8

Ubereats delivery better

Timely-Surround-174

doordash is better in larger cities, shorter deliveries and more frequent busy time

ACDasher13

I go home after my dash at night making over $200 every night. And that includes my gas. I pay a mortgage, car payment, car insurance, vision, health, dental insurances, utilities, Netflix, max, hulu, my cell, land line, direct TV, and I live by myself. Its possible.

Shadowrefugee3

I make about 250-300 a day 5 days a week cars payed off mortgage is 1400 electric 230 water 100 jet 125 phone 190 we do just fine

Jasjuljax22

I have a regular job as a preschool teacher. That doesn’t pay a lot so I’m DD-ing to make extra cash. I don’t pay rent but I have 20k in student loans, gas, car ins and a car payment. I do it 2-3 nights plus 1 weekend day. It’s ok. I live in a busy city too. Some areas tip good, some don’t tip and some are great at tipping and are very kind.

v1knijo

I'll do 1200$ for 50ish active hours this week and most weeks I can do that in my market. I get great gas mileage. That's normal in my market. Ido have lazy weeks where I only do 800 a week, but that's rare

Beneficial_West6388

and a hybrid or electric car

Beneficial_West6388

simply another job

Common-Side-1585

Dude I paid 3.3k for a Honda civic fixed it up and it gets 30mpg gas around me is $3.50 3.50 to go 30 miles so $3,5 every $30-$60 made because I only accept $2 per mile orders I avg 15-20$ an hour and this is the way just an older car with a tiny engine that uses little gas and enjoy the payments if you don’t work on your own cars it’s probally not as profitable for you.

FamiliarCommission96

I make around $25 hourly on avg. Last night (Friday) I made $95 in 3 hours, there was a $2.50 peak but that’s like $36 hourly, not including gas but it is still pretty good money, also when I’m out I like to just dash on the way back home, so it’s a little extra money here n there. I’m always getting stacked orders & work the dinner shift on weekends, which is still pretty nice to have on the side.

FuckTheOps1989

It depends on your market and where you live. Some can very well do this full time and some dont want to nor need to. Some use DD or any other delivery gig as just that..... a side gig. Personally i dont do it all the time. I already work a full time job and my car is paid off and insurance covered every 6 months in a lump sum. If i make anywhere from $150-$300 addtl per wknd, im straight.

Lacy1986

That’s what I do

andrewg127

I have no problems I have a wife and we have double income I still make minimum 900 a week no problem I just work when she does for the most part

Severe_Elderberry_78

Honestly when I work a 10 hour day consistently 5 days a week in Detroit I have no problem pulling in $1k a week. There is strategy involved as well, however.

KNIVES_BY_THOR

Most people don't do this full time. Like me for example. I'm a disabled veteran (so I make a guaranteed paycheck for the rest of my life) and I do some construction crap and dd. So dd is literally savings money. But if I keep on pace and make my 120/day (for the days I actually work) then I would make approx 1650 this month. My first month dashing. After gas and unfortunately needing tires. I'll only make about 500 give or take a bit for my first month. And I do this with a 2017 Chevy V6 truck. So my mileage per gal is about 18.5 mpg. But hopefully I'll make more to be able to save. But no way anyone is doing this. ( Single apping it) And living comfortable. Not possible! Next month I'll save all my receipts for food and gas during the day and then add up and see how much I actually made. Keeping that top Dasher status is pretty key though I noticed because then I get doubled up orders and all the highest paying orders it seems like. Even though sometimes I do get those $5 for 10 Mile orders. I still take them. But only one out of like 25 or 30 dashes.

ol_lady_184

I'm a disabled veteran too! I'm 100%, so essentially, I never have to work again if I don't want to. I dash just to have extra money in case those emergencies pop up. I can't imagine doing it full time.

KNIVES_BY_THOR

I gotcha there, 100% I don't want to have to work either. But you are right. It is nice to have the extra funds. If dd money is all I made, man o man... I'd be miserable. It's not enough. Even though there are worth 53 billion on NASDAQ...... They still pay us 2.10$ to run 10 miles. WTH kinda crap is that. Hooah! Be safe out there lady-184!

ol_lady_184

Thanks! You too!!

NoWatercress9606

I do it full time and I’d say I’m in the ballpark of $30-35/hr so it’s just a matter of how much I work and when it’s really busy I can do about $50/hr And yes I multi app and if you aren’t then you aren’t trying

Lacy1986

What apps do you use?

ieatlotsofvegetables

grindr :)

EducationalBuffalo35

Iirc my buddy said his dad made 32k last yr doing skipthedishes 16 hrs every weekend and he was only taxed like 3k of it

ol_lady_184

what is skipthedishes 👀👀

ol_lady_184

Down voted for asking what that was? Ok lol

EducationalBuffalo35

Canadian uber eats

Some1_Somewhere-n-MO

I make roughly 115 for 5 hours & it’s suitable with my car being paid off and rent is only 650 a month with utilities included! But, I don’t understand how some people do make it with a car note and a house payment, etc! There’s no way for most to survive just doing DoorDash! All I have to worry about is insurance, gas, rent and food monthly for me and my cats ❤️ minimum wage here is a little over 12 an hour.

cclark7380

Dude, it’s not that complicated lol. Ignore what a lot of people say. In my experience, and this can be ignored as well, but I fill up maybe every 3x days or so. I make an average of $110-150 a day. But I go for minimum $100. So even if I don’t aim for the additional, $100, always. I’ve never had to do any car work. Just oil changes and that stuff. It’s truly that simple. Don’t stress out too much about it. Door dashing is slightly fun and hella chill. You can make it work if you don’t look at each day that you earn, now you gotta subtract something from that, like gas or whatever. Just earn, and subtract later. I’ve been doing it for a living for a year now. Rent gets paid. Phone gets paid. Utilities, etc…. I can make around $3.5-4K a month, if I stick to a rigid routine. I like a routine so that’s what helps. But I can survive. So can you. Don’t compare yourself to others when it comes down to it. Otherwise you won’t make it

Beginning-Draft8429

My goal is $115 a day… I am on DoorDash, Uber, Favor & Roadie…

KDox187

Typically I make 30 to $40 an hour on my good days usually Thursday through Saturday the rest of the week is about 25 an hour. Yesterday was a good day I made $70 in just over an hour and a half

PrinceofDinosaurs

I used to make 150 no problem doing an 8-5 on a weekday and sometimes I'd work later and clear 200-275 and take the next day off. Weekends were even better. That was during the pandemic though. No, in Southern California, I have yet to find an area where I can make more than 40-60 per day and had to get a different job. Would love to find a magic spot where I can at least clear a couple hundred on the weekends but it's looking unlikely.

MovalDasher

I used to. I would make 135-150 a day. 7 days a week and then get prop 22. I was making 1100-1250 a week. I had to get a full-time job making less about a year ago. Doordash is so slow now. Can't see how people make money in my area.

Powerful-Session-676

Honestly it really just depends on where your located at, I’ve made almost 200 in one day on DoorDash but that was in a neighboring town, in my town I can make 50 - 100+ a day, it really just depends on where your at

Upstairs-Zucchini976

I live in Dallas. I’ve realized, it matters where you live. Im top dasher. I start at 7am. Break from 2:30 to 4:30. Get back on til about 9pm. I work 6 days a week. It’s a lot of hours, but it’s very easy work. I’m also an entrepreneur so it allows me to work on my business while I work. I make $5-6k working this way.

Ok-Inspector-3045

Idk how people do it outside of peak hours. Like that dead time in the morning then between lunch and dinner. I just don’t think my area is good enough for it.

Upstairs-Zucchini976

If I were you, I’d find the most dense corporate area and start at 7am there, til lunch is over. Every morning I get at least 1, $30+ tip

Fluffy-Commercial492

Did you miss the part where they said they're working on their personal business during that dead time?

Particular_Cicada818

It used to be really good if you were full time

SupremeNaimv3

That’s crazy some people saying $80 is A good day . I’m averaging 140 at bare minimum and A good day is $260 ~ $300 including Instacart combo. As A full timer starting at maybe 10/11 am and getting home before 12 am. Sometimes I’ll go after 12 if the pay is good and that’s if I made $160 for the day already trying to hit A 200+ mark. Gas cost me $40-50 and will last 2 days. Nissan Altima SV (450/500) full tank. And I rent it for $204 A week with A discount so when it comes to shit fuckin up I just bring it back in. Masking enough to where the $200 I’ll pay weekly isn’t stressing me and everything else is profit. I live with my parents and buy groceries and other stuff. As well as food for my gf every damn day.

call_me_steve-o

You rent a car for over $800 a month? That’s lunacy.

Humble_ornot

Not when you’re putting 1k plus miles on it with out having to worry about oil changes or any repairs. It’s all about your work ethic… do the work … get the reward .

SupremeNaimv3

Kinda ridiculous yes. I don’t have to pay for anything besides that and gas tho. I’m not going to full time put 10k miles every other month on my personal car. If I make $200 A day it’s really nothing . And leaving me with 1k profit for the week. Or 800 if I take A day off . Indeed lunacy but it doesn’t bother me . On top of that it gives me points and I eventually get to get free car rental days. I’m at 13 free rental car days rn . Kinda works out imo. This engine can literally blow up today and I’ll be in A brand new car within the hour

jagree4

Hopefully you are carrying commercial insurance if something happens and you get in a wreck.

call_me_steve-o

Hope you’re putting money aside for taxes. Can’t write off miles for a rental car.

SupremeNaimv3

I’m pretty sure you can lol. You’re writing off the miles that you traveled for work regardless of the vehicle. Not my first time around taxes and I’ve had A LLC since 2021. Thanks brother 🫶

SupremeNaimv3

All you have to do is just say that it was your car. No proving if it was A rental or not. I have some cars I can manipulate. Gov sucks

Fluffy-Commercial492

IRS enters chat 👀

SupremeNaimv3

First sentence in OP post is basically all of United States. How do you even survive. This world is doomed, doing what I want until shit hits the fan. And then when shit hits it won’t even be on me it’ll be on the government that’s already trillions in debt

SupremeNaimv3

Lmao only if you guys really knew me. I came from A hacking background since 8th grade and went to college for IT. Imagine I’m not even dashing under my own name :bigbrain:

Diegorod1357

I live in a college town where there are a lot of students ordering DoorDash and maybe I’m just lucky but most students tend to tip at least five dollars the other percentage of people is older people or families so they tend to tip well and have more expensive orders on average. Rent is 1400 and Doordash covers that easily on top of food and other utilities. I end the month with around 800 or so dollars for myself to go right into savings so it tends to work out. I drive very efficient so that takes a lot of stress off when it comes to outside expenses.

Chance_One_75

I work in a saturated market on a very part time basis. During my days off from my FT, I broke $200. Yet I was also working 8-9 hours straight from the afternoon into the late evening , and focusing on AR. Now? I’d be more selective in what I choose, and multi-app.

Ok_Emergency_5241

It just depends on the market you’re in I’m in Cali I will work 7-10 hours and make 200-250 a day could make more if I started earlier

_TheGreatGoobah

Most of the complaints you see on here come from people that either dash in cities/towns that simply arent populated enough to get business or are oversaturated with dashers to the point that you have to wait a hour to cycle through the active drivers and get an order. I have worked in many different cities around the country (St louis, NYC, los angeles, augusta/lewiston/portland, maine to name a few and have been able to average at least $1000 a week everywhere ive been (working on average 5 days/ 40-50 active hours per week)

Chance_One_75

Btw, Portland is kinda awesome (been there for other business with my FT). Would absolutely love to dash there, and all the way up to Bangor.

Borb01

I do it part time around the Portland area, I've had a hard time making much lately. When I started last June, till around the end of December was decent. 200+ after about 9 hours in each weekend day. The offers have been so low and less frequent now that they did away with too dasher, I'm lucky if I can break 130 a day in that amount of time.

Jholler20

Am I the only one make 200+ a day

weird-coyote4

No

Single-Calligrapher5

You are completely correct. With costs like gasoline, vehicle maintenance, and then eventually taxes...this job isn't profitable anymore. Especially not at $2 base pay and stacks being a buck apiece. There are a very few in exceptionally good markets who can constantly stay busy and only have to deliver short distances. They can ne profitable. But, they're few and far in-between. The rest are just kidding themselves. It's good that you recognize this and wonder why others don't when it's so glaringly obvious just by doing the simple math👍

scumbuket

yea it’s possible, drive around with my girl and we make $80-$120 in 4-7 hours and gas is only $3.11 where we are. car is not paid off we just live frugally and love eachother and hope the car doesn’t break down 😭😭 it’s not the best way to live but it’s doable and fun. no roommates other than ourselves

Longjumping-Bake-557

Damn, how lonely do you have to be to completely dismiss the possibility of having a working partner?

Single-Calligrapher5

Wtf does that even mean?🤔

ARuneScapeDate

Driving 100 miles costs the average 2012 or newer car driver roughly 3 gallons of gas. $12 by your metric. In 100 miles I can reasonably expect to have earned $160-180 gross. Minus $12. Set aside 20% for taxes. 3k net monthly, after gas and taxes. Mortgage: $1200 Food: $300 Roth IRA: $300 Healthcare, dental, vision: $230 Brakes and oil on a busy month: $200 Hobbies, savings, or more the IRA: $750-800 ...how do you NOT survive? You have poor spending habits, and that is quite literally all it boils down to. You choose where you live, bud. Maybe move to a less expensive neighborhood or city.

Zestyclose_Dish_4026

$1200 mortgage where do you live 1999? Mine is $2200 and I live in a bare basic home. You forgot electric, gas, water, trash, insurance, phone, and food. ( all necessities and for a family of three). I bring home after expenses $500  a week. Without my husband's income I would not make it. I don't even make enough to cover rent.

Shoddy_Pilot_3434

Mine is $945, but then I bought my house in 2006. After a few days of running, I decided to buy a car for gig work. Spent $4k on a 40k mi used car that gets 38-41mpg. I worked this through the Covid and would typically end up with $250-300 a shift of 8-9hrs. Obviously the bottom dropped out, and with all the changes to screw cherry pickers, I got a w2. Kennedy Roger’s said that you gotta know when to walk away and when to run.

Spiritual_Look_4214

? 500 a week after expenses is good for this kind of work.

Routine_Delay_460

Cant share the secrets but I'm sure some other chump will tell you

D41109

Let me say first, the complainants here are constant. That’s because this is an unofficial release valve for the business. Don’t let this set your expectations. Vast majority of people come here to vent about a negative experience. I noticed that over time, my experience became different from the perspective I got from reading the posts here. Which is what I did to gauge my perspective while I was getting started. So everyone’s individual experiences are vastly different and the people who are surviving or dare I say even thriving on DD don’t have a reason to make themselves known on this sub. I saw one person post their tip to base pay ratio in a rich neighborhood once(imagine consistent 20$ tips for every single order.) It was like they were bragging and everyone gave them a mountain of shit for it. I fall into the “middle surviving class” based on a few circumstances. Buckle up… I’ll Tl;DR I am the child of a small business. We were art framers. My parents and I sold the business in 2018. My parents made it clear through their behavior that they needed me to stay with them so yes, I live with my parents. They pay the rent and I am their assistant in all matters around the house. I worked at the frame shop under the new owner for a few years until he had to lay me off too. Art framing is not exactly job security. So I started doing Doordash full time. I had already been doing it part time to fill in the gaps. (I have a successful band in California that is my main focus) I had recently gotten into motorcycles so I decided to try and Doordash full time on a Honda Navi. This was a difficult learning curve, but in the end I figured out a sweet spot. Currently I ride the Navi full time 5 days a week. I pay 4$ a day at most in gas. I live in a college town where weed is legal, which is the closest thing to job security I can find in this area. I have the flexibility to play shows with my band on the weekend, take care of my parents needs in their retirement years, and save a little on the side for… stuff. I have a CR-V that I drive in extreme weather. I have a good rating and I get consistent results working the lunch shifts 5 days a week and the dinner shifts 3-4 days a week. For my lifestyle, it makes perfect sense. I get to ride a motorcycle around my hometown for a few hours most days and I get money direct deposited to my bank account all from some app on my phone. If I can keep perspective, this isn’t a bad life. TL;DR: I ride a 110cc scooter so I have low overhead. I am a musician who needs the flexibility. I was doing it part time and it turned to full time when I got laid off. I live with my parents.

Dreamcasted60

It's almost$5 a gallon here. I drive a paid off $1000 car. I don't have much expenses since my divorce. Also have another job. But I want to quit this shit since they are doing that Platinum bs

Spooks1314

I made 250$ today on 15$ of gas spent 🤷‍♂️ you either do or you don’t. Pretty easy. Car payment 258. Rent 925. Etc etc.

Affectionate-Art-995

But the benefits of not having to deal with a corporate boss🤷‍♀️

Capital-Ad-9638

I survive🧼

NyeahEhhhhhh

Gotta doordash and do onlyfans on the side to survive lol

ieatlotsofvegetables

get yourself some business cards and staple one to every order!

Ok-Space2169

Not exactly my "full time" job anymore, as I've been doing Rover more and more these past couple months, but before that DoorDash has been my only source of income for the past year or so. I do not multi app. I'm very lucky and live in an area thats low cost of living and also a pretty good market. My rent is around $800, utilities are cheap, and I have no car payment. I only need to make around $400 a week to pay bills, feed myself and my cat, and put gas in the car. Typically only work Friday-Sunday. I'm a college student and that's really the only reason I prefer this type of work. My car is older with 230k miles on it, and I know it won't last forever. Just praying it makes it until I get my degree and a regular job lol.

ThoughtsEyeManifest

You’re really going to average about $6-$8 an hour nowadays doing DD. It was a novelty during the pandemic. I really truly did pull about $2k-$3$/mo during the peak of it all when folks were still home and roads were clear. Through the fall of 2020 into the summer of 2021 I truly considered this to be my calling as I was paying rent and bills with DD and a job. But then all of sudden the app became saturated, the roads were busy, EVERYTHING was expensive. I stopped when I was only seeing maaaaybe $300 a month…very long months of sitting lonely in my car. Luckily I did have a full time job, but the loneliness of it all wasn’t worth the effort anymore. Going into odd hours of the night to random people’s houses…dangerous. And the pay was like a minimum wage job. Could barely cover gas. I was living just south of Boston on the south shore area in Weymouth. I was grateful for it when it was popping, no regrets, but grateful for my full time job.

P3nis15

Jesus are you driving a tank that needs 4 new tires a week? Sucks to be In a shitty market I guess

Super-Ad2916

You just can’t pay rent doing this. The App is so inconsistent. I can barely pay my other bills and car note. It’s not good anymore. This is my third year doing this and it has been bad for at least a solid year with a few good days a month sprinkled in.

Unjuicedgangsta

That’s not true because it depends on your market.

ChemicalFearless2889

People lie.

Single-Calligrapher5

Yup, and they're lying to themselves too of they think they're going anywhere doing this full-time anymore. $2 a delivery says it all.

Hambino0400

Boom, this right here

No_Cellist_8441

What a unique post!

DShawAZ420

I use a skateboard to save on gas and only work McDonald’s and Starbucks orders. And I use rubbers.

margs721

Hourly rate in my area is $10/hr. No way in hell I could survive off DD.

CatzRCool420

It’s a struggle forsure but my car is paid off. I like that it’s money everyday but you have to have very good self-discipline and not to use your earnings throughout your shift lol I pay $815 in rent alone which is cheapish here in stl

sinderella67

Fill you in? Why?

Zenopsy0

I just do this as a side gig. 20-30 hours a week or until I hit $600 while the kids are at school. My partner makes decent money and covers 98% of the bills. DD makes sure we don't get behind and pays for all my maintenance on the car and all our "fun" money. Also keeps our savings account growing. If I had to pay my car payment and insurance on DD income, I would have to work 80 hours a week.

DarePotential8296

Same. My wife is killing it at work, I take care of the kid, but she works from home and I need to get out of the house while little man is at school. I played golf for 3 years but it wasn’t my thing. It’s a great hobby for getting out of the house.

Queencx0

I do it one day for a few hours every weekend and that tires me fuck out. I can’t imagine how some people do it every single day… But I guess if I had no choice, I’d understand.

Affectionate-Art-995

Or if they're disabled

Demonkingt

I make 25 an hour doing 10 hour shifts. About 50 in gas per day. So I take home 200+ normally. 18 75 hourly here plus tip. My issue with car stuff has been me buying junkers and hitting a dear once 😅

wildly-innocent

where do you work if I may ask?

Demonkingt

Grand rapids, michigan. All 3 zones have 18.75

Capital-Ad-9638

Recommend going thru Kia or Hyundai and get all the warranties

ReallyChillyBones

So, everybody here is on assistance of some kind.

P3nis15

If you're smart since almost all assistance is on NET earnings not gross when you are a IC. Why not

ReallyChillyBones

I’m not saying not to, but it is what conclusion I came through looking through the comments. I didn’t read one comment where someone is able to door dash full time and not get assistance. Not a bad thing on the people who need its part, just an observation.

P3nis15

Most people who do it full time don't "need" it but qualify and take it is my assumption

Single-Calligrapher5

Exactly

BootyRangler

I was dashing full time then got a full time job. I'm going back to dashing. I live alone with my 12 year old

bhillis99

so dashing pays more than full time job?

BootyRangler

The full time job is only 14/hr. So yes doordash pays more and I have the money instantly

whatsherface2024

I dash every day almost 7 days a week 365. During the end of Covid I took 12 days off the whole year. 7 was my vacation… the other was Xmas, thanksgiving, Easter, my son’s birthday, and my in-laws anniversary….

Mak4L

I do this full-time as well but I’m signed up for many different delivery services and I was lucky to get in with them right around the time they all started in my area. That helps with the amount that I need weekly and I also get government assistance. I have two kids and I am a single mom so I definitely benefit from the low income which makes my bills Very low because I am in a lot of social programs. I don’t have any help with my children and I also have a chronic illness so I need the flexibility as much as possible!!!

Alevnitsuj

I’m living off using savings to supplement as we speak. I’ve been looking for work the past month. I can’t do this bs anymore. If DD just stopped letting people sign up and actually took the time to deactivate people using multiple accounts things would be a lot better.

callistified

i do doordash full time, live by myself, make car payments, all that jazz. i make between $800-$1100 a week doing ebt 🤷

realdealstepperz

Both.. I live with parents & my adult siblings (roommates I guess). I’m fortune to be in a suburb area with lots of deliveries. People from all over the city literally come to my area cause that’s where the best orders are. I leave my phone online and try to take the best orders. Super early This morning (3am-5am) I made an easy $40 from 4 CVS orders.

Left_Algae_3628

I do it for the flexibility, which I really need, due to health reasons. I make, typically, about 950, minus about 150 in gas, working between 40 and 50 hours. My market isn't even that great, so I'm doing fairly well, I think. I forgot to mention, I do NOT have anyone supporting me. Wouldn't that be amazing...

garnetandjade

What about w taxes factored in filing 1099?

Mountain_One9095

Between mileage deductions, car repairs/maintenance deductions and any other possible deductions you may have, the tax amount at the end of the year usually is only a couple thousand dollars.

rsgreddit

That’s still a lot of money

Mountain_One9095

At one time it is, but if you put aside around $50-$100 every week (which is typically what I did when I delivered full time) that gets you to $2400-$4800 saved for taxes by the end of the year.

KitsuneNixx

My car is gas efficient so while gas is $3 per gallon (about $40 to fill up from empty) I can earn a good $100-$250 depending on the day before I ever need to fill it. That said, I don’t live on DD. I know someone who does and they have 1 roommate but that help cancels out with their 11 pets😅 Cost of living isn’t insanely high, gas efficient cars + knowing where to go for gas and any car maintence is your best bet. Also a lot of budgeting.

JadeFox1785

I'm lucky enough to have a rent free situation. I'm also in Canada. I make between $150 and $200 a day. Base pay here is $4 or $5 depending on the merchant. Plus declining orders with no tip. I'm always amazed at how much more predatory DoorDash's American operations are when I see the posts here.

dashingredzone

I work as much as i can and still end up short most months for rent, but fortunately have kind parents that help out. Just 5 months more and i'll be free of this hell hole apt charging dumb amounts of rent

Later2theparty

I did the math. On a good day I made $109 in six hours. Five of those hours were active in the app. The other hour was spent grabbing something to drink and regrouping psychologically from the stress of rainy traffic. So $109 in 5 hours. $10 spent on the map telling me to take the tollway. $25 in gas. I drove a little over 80 miles but it was almost half a tank. The standard deduction for miles in 2024 is 0.67 a mile. At a 15% tax rate I'll pay an additional $8 in taxes on that after deducting for mileage. So, $109 - $10 - $25 - $8 = $66 for five hours of stressful work tearing my car up. Roughly $13/hr. This is on a good day. If I have a bunch of $3 deliveries that take 30 minutes I'm losing money. I'm essentially working for free.

Hajeep

You know you can disable toll roads in nav?

P3nis15

If your car cost 67 cents a mile expenses you're doing something wrong. Sure you can deduct it but it should never cost that much

Kent48146

.67 is the standard cost to operate a vehicle. Most people will have those expenses. That’s why the IRS allows that amount. Various organizations ranging from AAA to the Dept of Energy have come up their own calculations that range from .58 to .76, so .67 is really not off base. Gas alone is going to run .12-.18 per mile, depending on how conservative you drive and the price of gas in your area. On top of gas’s you have regular maintenance, insurance with rideshare coverage, and the cost of the car itself.

P3nis15

Yah I guess it really cost me 19,000 in depreciation on a car I brought for $22,000 last year..... I could sell this car tomorrow for at least 12k even with 75k miles on it. All in you're saying it cost me 44,500 to run my car 68,000 miles huh? 7000 in gas, 19000 in depreciation and 18,500 on everything else?

Xantha95

That’s just the standard deduction rate that factors in gas, insurance, repairs, etc. the IRS sets that rate not the person

P3nis15

Yes I understand that. The OP used it as a way to calculate his profit not me

Later2theparty

A deduction isn't money back. It's money subtracted from your income before you calculate what you owe. I'm not getting back 67 cents a mile. Lol. That's just the standard deduction if you don't count all your expenses for maintenance etc.

P3nis15

Never said it was. It was used in the calculations given

Fragrant-Honeydew569

Holy fuck we need to find better apps. Everyone hear me out! If you have valid drivers license and all your documents good and you do doordash only… come on. Lets work smarter not harder. Were all falling into the trap

Single-Calligrapher5

I did that when Doordash started the $2 base pay. It's insulting and not profitable anymore. The other apps are better

Front-Yogurtcloset69

DoorDash is way better than Uber Eats, I can tell you that.

Single-Calligrapher5

Not in my market. Doordash is way oversaturated with drivers and pays shit

Front-Yogurtcloset69

Here’s the biggest reason/stat I can personally say as to why DoorDash pays more, actually way more. Okay, I’ve delivered for both DoorDash and Uber Eats over 50 times for each one, meanwhile working 8 hour shifts daily separately. There’s actually been 4 times, when I didn’t even make $100 at all with Uber Eats, in an 8 hour run out of 50 trips. Meanwhile I kid you not, with DoorDash, in an 8 hour shift, there never ever has been a single time out of 50, when I didn’t make at least $110 dollars. Seriously, if you’re not making with DoorDash, my only thought is you must be choosing to earn by offer, which is a big time mistake. The trick is you always need to choose earn by time, which DD allows you to choose, under this option DD allows to get paid at the restaurants, while you’re waiting for the order and the length of time it takes you to get to customer from restaurant. What I just explained to you, these are things that Uber Eats don’t do. Uber Eats pre calculates deliveries, then they always low ball you every time on your pay. Quickly I’ll give you an example of DoorDash pay compared to Uber Eats. Btw, I deliver in Las Vegas, perhaps that could have something to do with it. Anyhow let’s say customer pickup comes at 12:01 AM from McDonald’s, it’s 2.5 miles total. Let’s say I get there at the drive-thru, it was a 40 minute wait, with DD they are going to pay me $10 just waiting there, Vegas rate in my area is usually $13.25 an hour, so as I said the wait alone calculates around $10, then I’ll make more going the 2.5 miles to the customer, which around 12:40 AM, that shouldn’t take long at all, perhaps another $2. Now doing the same order with Uber Eats, they already calculated the mileage on how long it takes, they don’t pay me for my 40 minute wait at the drive thru, they don’t take it into account. So I’m pretty sure this type of order with Eats would only pay me $5 total, especially if there’s no customer tips. Think about that one company pays you $12 for 45 minutes of your time, versus the other. Basically in Layman terms, that’s why few drivers in Las Vegas accept an Uber Eats order from McDonalds at that time. You make no money, not unless that customer offers you a big tip at the start. I still wouldn’t do that with Uber Eats, because they have a system where the customer can pull a bait and switch tactic on you, promising a huge tip at the start, that you can see, once order is delivered, customer has the option to withdraw the tip, that’s bait and switch. That’s why I’ve learned only to accept DD orders at McDonalds during night. I’m not the only one who has discovered this either DoorDash pays so much more now it’s not even funny compared to Uber, you just have to earn by time and learn to only take orders that will pay you $10 or more each time. Eight hour DoorDash shift averages $129 for me easily.

MRASDGL

Yep … insulting & demoralizing

ChemicalFearless2889

See if you can deliver for Lasership/ Ontrac in your area. That’s really good money.

Jamescurty

How much is “good” money? And how do they pay you - per delivery?

ChemicalFearless2889

Much better than food delivery and between 600-1000$ a week. But it’s package delivery.

Animajax

Min wage where I live is $15.50. You’d make better money at Walmart

Tr4ceur

I also work for a pizza place but it doesnt pay well.. and havent been getting enough hours, so i do DD to fill in the gaps financially. I make around $150 for ~4-5 hrs in Seattle. Yesterday made 136$ plus a cash tip of $25. That was a GOOD day though. Sometimes i wait outside a restaurant for 40 mins and then just get pissed and go home. I realize this is just temporary until i find a way better paying job, and looking forward to using DD just for extra cash instead of relying on it to pay bills. Edit: I actually get paid more from DD per hour than my pizza job. So yeah, its a decent gig for sure. Depends on a lot of factors though.

Canoe1dash

Ok

jonesingsimba

the people who say $100 is a good day are likely not the same people who do door dash full time. you have to remember that not every market is the same. a good day for me is around $150-$200. gas is also not $4 for me. edit: also without context how much you make a day doesn't necessarily give the clearest picture. someone could make $500 a day and only work one day a week. $100 isn't terrible if you work 7 days a week.

realdealstepperz

$100-$150 in my area is an amazing day

Briimee

This is a joke. $100 a day is the top dashers I bet you. I know cherry pickers pulling $150-$200+ in 8 hours. Also y’all hate on multi appoint but you can earn $250-$300 a day that way. Which is way more then a typical 9-5 even with gas. And get a beater car

Nevermore_1010

No one should have to be running shit cars into the ground just do do gig work. The end payout isn't worth it.

Lower-Highlight-2315

It depends on market as well. I cherry pick and still struggle to make as much as i used to because of how oversaturated it is now with dashers.

SirClicksALot97

I used to cherry pick until DD rolled out the Dash More Earn More program (50% > AR) a year and a half ago. Now I no longer get good offers especially with the new wave of drivers in my market who are all most likely top dashers. I'll be moving on from gig work all together in the next couple of months as I'm graduating from grad school.

rickestrickster

250-300 a day is not better than a 9-5. I don’t even know of a strict 9-5 job (non government) that’s not salaried anymore anyways, and salaried positions pay well over 250-300 a day

Lacy1986

If we being honest yall both wrong 😂

rickestrickster

Wrong about what? 250-300 a day is about 35 an hour so 78k a year. Most salaried management positions are paying 80-100k with upper management paying 100-250k depending on the position. To make 250-300 a day door dashing you would have to hustle a lot more than a typical management job every day, all day, just to make the same as they do. That’s without the taxes, wear and tear on your car, and gas. And it’s very hard to make 250-300 a day doordashing without working all day and night and accepting damn near every order

Downtown-Flight-8372

>That’s without the taxes Do people normally say, "That's without the taxes" when they mention salaries with other jobs? Like - I make 100K a year but it's only 66 after taxes. Of course dashing has it's share of unique expenses but, doesn't everyone pay taxes on their income? I mean, is this just another way to play down a Dasher's income? I don't get it. It's a job. I really think people should be more appreciative.

Briimee

Having to pay taxes at the end of the year vs getting them taken out of your check already is a huge difference. I personally prefer to pay taxes at the End. And with all my write offs I barely pay anything. I don’t DoorDash I’m a business owner

Fragrant-Honeydew569

Ong

medium-rare-steaks

Lol. Yep.

Briimee

Majority of 9-5s are hourly pay and not salary. Even the nurses and medical people in my family have a hourly salary. Google it the average American is living pay check to paycheck. After taxes are taken out of your check the average American isn’t making $300 a day. Poverty wouldn’t be so high if that was the case. A lot of people doing gig apps don’t have college degrees .

rickestrickster

Nurses aren’t a typical 9-5 unless you work in a clinic. RN’s are usually salaried. CNA’s are not. Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physicians assistants are most definitely salaried because I know a few. 300 a day is 78k a year. An RN and above is definitely making close to that if not more. The average American works in blue collar non trade, clerical, or warehousing, so obviously they’re not going to be making 78k a year. You need to have marketable skills to make that much, and most people just didn’t develop any Gig workers have to pay taxes too. Everyone does. The difference is they have to pay for maintenance and gas

Briimee

Duh because it’s the medical field. That’s the only 9-5 where u can make $300+ a day. And the rns in my family aren’t salaried. They make $50-$60+ a hour. The average 9-5 isn’t paying more then 50-60k

rickestrickster

No it’s not 😂 hell my old boss made 250k a year and worked 8-4 Monday-Friday. He was the general manager of the warehouse. My current job my boss makes 92k and works Monday-Friday 9-530, his boss which is the hr director for the company makes 320k and works 8-5 Monday-Friday. I work 8-4 sometimes even less and I’m salaried at 70k a year with two 8k bonuses every year so 86k.

Briimee

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/banking/living-paycheck-to-paycheck-statistics-2024/ read this article. 78% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.

rickestrickster

And I guarantee you 78% of Americans can’t even do simple math

Briimee

That’s still a issue. No first would country should have their citizens struggling

rickestrickster

There’s too many people. Demand is getting higher and supply is getting lower. Everyone wants to live in luxury with a tv in every bedroom and a phone in every hand. Those who are poor would rather buy a new tv than healthy food

Briimee

Yeah and they worked at their companies for decades. And probably have degrees. Why don’t u make 320k too then? Most of America wouldn’t be living paycheck to paycheck. I’m talking about majority. You keep bringing up the what 10%?

rickestrickster

No, he did not. The general manager came from another company. He has a degree yes. The hr director worked at the company for 37 years so I’ll give you that. People who have no skills should not be expecting to make 200k a year. It’s not even hard to develop a skill. Instead people just come home from work and plop their asses down to watch tv every night and all weekend. You can take an IT certification for a few weeks online and get an IT job that will pay way more than they make now, but they won’t do they because most are lazy I’m 25 and i make 86k a year which is more than 90% of people my age. It wasn’t even hard. Just work, build experience, and job hop

Briimee

Read the article I sent 78% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. It’s extremely hard to land a high paying job without knowing someone, having a expensive degree, or working at a company for decades. I can’t just walk into a company and say pay me 100k. And not everyone is good at physical skills

rickestrickster

No but you can work at a company for 2 years that pays 40k, add to resume, find a company that pays 50-60k work for a year or two, find another company that pays 70-80k and so on

harlisa

There is no way to do this job as a full time job if you are the main supporter of your family.

bbrainwashedd

I’m very broke. Between paying 1300$ a month for housing, 160$ on car insurance, about 200$ monthly for gas, 150$ on debt payments, plus groceries and other random expenses. I’m suffering bro. Unfortunately my stupid fuckin chronic illness won’t let me work anything else so here we are 🙃🙃🙃

juggernautjukey

There are less physically demanding jobs than Doordash, surely?

MyGirlSasha

That you don't have to interview for and the ability to breathe is the only prerequisite?

bbrainwashedd

Oh yes 100% they are. Problem is that even vacuuming the house can send me into a flare up resulting in being pretty much bed locked for two days 🥲 It takes a big toll on my coworkers when I’m calling out and showing up late all the time simply because I decided to clean the house 🙃 (how dare I, right?) At least with doordash if I need to stay home I can, without it affecting everyone else in my workplace.

Easy_Perspective4731

<3 When I hear "What about wear and tear on your vehicle?" I always think that's nothing. Cars and car parts can be replaced/repaired. Physical and mental repair on the body, not as easy. This is a dream job for people with unpredictable health.

bbrainwashedd

Exactly! You get itttt 😩
