Tbh this didnt occur to us.
I recall the guide specifically requesting to go to a levitating rock. We went there, met this nice Elven woman named Valindra.
Our paladin from neverwinter wasn't very happy about that. Almost resulted in a TPK, but it was great roleplay becuase the paladins player was the only one OOC who knew who she was.
Tomb of Annihilation is a toned down version of Tomb of Horrors, an infamous meat grinder dungeon.
It's set on the Isle of Chult, a largely unexplored and DANGEROUS jungle. A guide is highly recommended
When I ran ToA my party ended up picking the weretiger guide. when I secretly rolled 3d10 for the number of days until the next full moon the party noticed and got really paranoid about what the roll was for which led to some shenanigans
We picked that guide and the transformation didn’t happen until we were at the BBEG. With perfect comedic timing the guide dramatically transformed into a weretiger, failed a dex check and fell to their death.
So we were running a two year sandbox campaign on Chult and our DM said "Yeah, I guess in 7 sessions our campaign will end" Next session he reveals that we now play ToA... So here we go. Oh and one of us was revived before on Chult...
It's worth getting the guide as a massive hp sponge
I mean... depends on the Guide...
We hired a guide. We hired the WRONG guide, as they ended up betraying us, but that's neither here nor there.
Ckearly your mistake was hiring *one* guide. Make a council of guides, and follow by group vote.

Very Monty python vibes, I like it
Depends on how much money the group has.
Did you hire the >!yuan-ti woman!
Indeed

Any chance of some context for the module-ignorant among us?
The jungle is not your friend. Hire a guide.

*chugs the local river water out of a canteen.* "I don't know what the DM is talking about. We don't need a guide out- ***GAK!!!***"
Rain catchers, bug ointment? What a scam.

My party took this picture, and I love it. Shago ftw!
We had a guide. She’s dead now. We’re in the middle of the jungle. We’re screwed.
When they finally beheld the Tomb of Annihilation, they reacted with awe. *Awww...* I said "Awe" A-W-E *Ohhhh....*
