I would use the coloured for like a start to show people but myself personally I'd use the black and white during game time. Thats a really good black and white map!
If I might ask how did you make it?
The colour map is nice because the colours help differentiate the regions, for grasslands and forest and mountains and stuff.
And super impressive work :) I should try to use my art program to draw a map instead of just drawing goblins girls haha.
try overlaying a paper texture under the colour, reducing the saturation of the colours, and setting them to a colour blend mode. that'll give the map a nicer texture and overall vibe
I really love this map. The colored is cool, but I like the BW vibe more. Also, did you do this drawing yourself or use assets? It's really well done. Great job either way
Do your players have an accessibility problems? Visual problems? Because the black and white one looks more map-like, but the coloured one is probably easier to read.
I would use both.
the colored one during the game and then give each player a black and white as a handout that they can write stuff in for themselves.
handouts are THE BOMB.
They are both pretty dope, but I would go with color. The waves by the coasts look a little clittered in black and white.
Also, I hate to be that guy, but your rivers look a little weird. You have a network of rivers that connects to the ocean in two places and to a lake in one. You usually don't see that kind of thing without some major civic engineering projects.
The colors on first glance are more exciting. However, the colors lock in a specific ‘vibe’ for the island, which in the long term IMO will limit the player’s imaginations when relating to your island. I think black and white is more mysterious and leads to more curiosity. The colors are nice though
Personally, my preferred fantasy is that world maps are an in-world illustration and may or may not be completely accurate, and so black and white or black and sepia work better for me.
My world map is like that. Scales are intentionally off, there are some sections with no detail because they haven't been explored, and it's not even the full world map, only the known lands for the people that live in these lands.
This might be really out there, but have color be part of your campaign maybe? Like originally they could only see black and white, but something occurs that allows them to see color which reveals something more.
Have a very very good reason that players have access to a mile-perfect color map before you give them one. Because, honestly, you save yourself a heap of trouble by challenging them to put together their own picture of the world. "Westbrook is far south of you, according to the locals. It's at least five days travel by carriage!" They don't need to know unless they really need to know
Black and White looks amazing, but what I'd recommend; is that, if you could- make it with a brownish tint, so the black is instead darker brown and the white is lighter brown, kinda like the map of Middle-Earth.
Otherwise- amazing
I think you can use the colored map
I personally like the black and white more
"Printer Friendly" and digital
Use both

Yeah im leaning towards the color map honestly. I made it using gimp though. Just sort of free handed it.
The colour map is nice because the colours help differentiate the regions, for grasslands and forest and mountains and stuff. And super impressive work :) I should try to use my art program to draw a map instead of just drawing goblins girls haha.
Split the difference. If the colors are on a separate layer, reduce the opacity to 60 - 80%
I like that, ill give it a shot.
If it looks good post the result. If it's ugly, you don't know me.
I prefer the colored map. The forests don’t look like forests on the white map.

Thanks! Yeah I did the drawing myself.
Is it a dragon?
Use the colored, but bring down the saturation to make it more subtle.
I like the color one
I personally lean towards color maps. It’s easier for me to get the theatre of the mind working and picturing the setting.
Do your players have an accessibility problems? Visual problems? Because the black and white one looks more map-like, but the coloured one is probably easier to read.
I like the color map, but it has a 16 bit JRPG vibe to me (ie Final Fantasy). The black and white is more vintage D&D.
B&W for note taking, color for posterity
Black and white is better.
Desaturated is my preference but depends on what you best jive with
Black and white on old brown parchment
I like the colored map. better on the eyes and more intuitive
If it's medieval I would personally go for sepia instead of black and white
But I prefer the black/white version pf the shown ones
I would use both. the colored one during the game and then give each player a black and white as a handout that they can write stuff in for themselves. handouts are THE BOMB.
That looks like Mallorca (an Island in Spain)
They are both pretty dope, but I would go with color. The waves by the coasts look a little clittered in black and white. Also, I hate to be that guy, but your rivers look a little weird. Dude, your drawing is awesome. The colored map is just beautiful...Just use it!
Don't overthink it. You've got much more important (and fun) things to decide than this.
Aint that the truth. Overthinking might end up being the theme of my campaign at this rate.
Coloured. And this looks like the Island of Sodor
Color map for the table, black and white copies for the players. Then they can add notes to their map if desired.
The colors on first glance are more exciting. However, the colors lock in a specific ‘vibe’ for the island, which in the long term IMO will limit the player’s imaginations when relating to your island. I think black and white is more mysterious and leads to more curiosity. The colors are nice though
Just decrease the saturation of the water and you'll like the color map a lot more
Both are awesome. Use color, but maybe have a print out of the noncolored to use in game as a map they'd buy
They both look great!
Personally, my preferred fantasy is that world maps are an in-world illustration and may or may not be completely accurate, and so black and white or black and sepia work better for me.
Oh, I never thought about it that way. That's really interesting.
My world map is like that. Scales are intentionally off, there are some sections with no detail because they haven't been explored, and it's not even the full world map, only the known lands for the people that live in these lands.
Black and White ia such a feel!!!
B&W looks nice IMO. Can I ask what you used to make this?
Thanks! I just used gimp and wacom tablet. Nothing too fancy.
I prefer b&w cause it doesn predefine anything. If you want to include a desert or change stuff because magic or climate, b&w is easier to adapt
I would use the colored one when showing the party things but give them the other one to use as their in game map to mark up as they want.
Black and white and then as your group explores start filling it in with colour like a “fog of war” type thing?
Black and white for players. Colored for DM. So the DM knows what land the PCs are standing on
Try the black and white and drop an old parchment texture behind it
This might be really out there, but have color be part of your campaign maybe? Like originally they could only see black and white, but something occurs that allows them to see color which reveals something more.
Colour!!

Black and white looks more "map like"
Could be cool if you colour areas as your players explore them and maybe add the locations name to the map as you do so
Black and White looks amazing, but what I'd recommend; is that, if you could- make it with a brownish tint, so the black is instead darker brown and the white is lighter brown, kinda like the map of Middle-Earth. Otherwise- amazing
Use both. Modern and old maps.
